Change of Plans is the first book in the new series, ‘Common Grounds.’ It stars Diccon Meyers, a barista, and Theo Callihan, an architect. This is told in first person from Diccon and Theo’s povs.
I enjoyed this book. It’s lowkey with little stress. The conflict comes when Diccon finds out that Theo is the architect in charge of the new building going up near the family’s coffee shop. Theo isn’t in charge of how the builder plans on accessing his construction site, but Diccon jumps to conclusions and throws a wrench into their budding relationship.
Even though this book isn’t long, the writer did a good job of creating fleshed out characters with distinct personalities. I especially liked how Theo displayed his confidence when working as an architect, but grew shy and unconfident when in a social setting. This is where Diccon shown. He loved working and socializing with people. The coffee shop was his dream job, but he had insecurities about his lack of college education. The two men had opposite hang-ups. They fit well together and I could believe in them as a couple.
I believe the following books will be about Diccon’s brothers and I’m looking forward to reading those.
Change of Plans is an easy, fast, and pleasant read. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing contemporary story. I give this book, 4 Stars.

The story between Diccon and Theo was ann entertaining one. Diccon works at the family coffee shop, he loves what he does, and one of the highlights of his morning is the right on time appearance of red-headed Theo, here for his morning coffee. This has been going on for months, Diccon is interested and flirts a lot, but Theo doesn’t give much away — is he gay or not? Turns out he is, and while Theo is working out of the coffee shop while his office is cleaned from a disaster, the two agree to go on a date. They really hit it off, they can talk about anything, and the evening has a happy ending —until Diccon notices something on Theo’s table that sets him off, sending him storming out. Is what they were building over, or will they find a way to solve a problem and get back together? You’ll have to read to find out.
Both main characters were realistic and spoke to me from the start, getting me invested in getting them together. The interest was there, the attraction, the flirting, and the ease they had around each other, you just knew they were perfect together, if they can just get their act together and let down some barriers raised by insecurities on both sides. World building for the coffee shop created good mind pictures, ones which I am sure will be expanded on in the successive books. This is a family operation, so the possibility is there for another two or three stories, at least. I liked the characters enough that I will watch for the rest of the series to see who else gets together, expanding a found family at the shop. Serving coffee, singing out orders with his best friend Hannah and brothers every morning, and of course flirting with architect Theo Callihan. He is one of those quirky guys who places the exact same plain black coffee order daily, never changing his order. When he comes in this time, however, Hannah calls out, “Small problem with that. Can I see you back here?” Hannah tells Diccon that this time he is going to get a date with that guy! Hannah hands him a carafe filled with the horrible, nasty-tasting blueberry coffee the distributor threw in with the samples. No one likes it, so Theo will rush back in and complain. And somehow, Diccon is then supposed to ask him out! If Theo ends up hating him, Hannah says it’s a risk she is willing to take so she won’t have to watch the two of them mooning over each other every morning without saying anything.
Theo ran out, but didn't come back in. Instead Gilbert brought in a paper, a frown on his face, and asked if they heard about this notice regarding a construction permit for the lot next door. Someone bought the lot and intends to build more retail space there. Brian says that means lots of noise, dirt, and chaos -- and maybe blocking off the street for 8 months which hurts their business. Worse yet, they find out Theo is the architect for the construction project that could shut their family's café down permanently. Will Theo give up now on asking Diccon out on a date? Or can he still convince Diccon that falling for him was the one change of plans he finally got right?

Diccon Meyers is part owner of Common Grounds his family’s coffee shop & he loves working there. Theo Callihan is a gorgeous, green-eyed, buttoned-up architect who orders the exact same plain black coffee every single day like his life depends on it. The pair have been eyeing each other for months, so to move things along! Theo is given the horrid blueberry coffee – then disaster strikes (or does it) Theo’s office is waterlogged as the sprinklers activated when there was a fire in another part of the building. So instead of working at home he pitches camp in Common Grounds. An invitation to an open mic event at the coffee shop changes both his & Diccon’s lives.
The start of a new series & it was a short book so I devoured it in a sitting. Diccon was sunshine to Theo’s grumpy, I loved the chemistry between them & how Theo gradually lightened up. There was some conflict over the lot next door & both had baggage they needed to address. A feel god romance with strong characters, some humour & of course romance. Diccon finally gets a chance with Theo, the buttoned‑up architect he’s been crushing on — thanks to a disastrously wrong coffee order. As feelings grow, both men have to navigate the tension between their budding romance and the threat to everything Diccon loves.
I loved the undeniable connection between Diccon and Theo, especially how strong it felt even though their relationship had barely begun when the new construction project threatened to come between them. The tension of wanting each other while facing something that could tear their worlds apart made every moment feel meaningful. I really appreciated that they found a solution to Diccon’s worries, allowing them to move forward together instead of letting fear or circumstance pull them apart. The emotions and feelings throughout were clear, heartfelt, and easy to understand, making their journey feel warm, real, and deeply satisfying. This was an MM story with mature content.

I have really enjoyed every book I've read by Merry Farmer so far, and this book is just as good. Usually, I'm used to reading Merry's omegaverse books, so this cute, contemporary romance, was a surprise in the best way.
I enjoyed the playfulness of the characters and how gradually overtime Diccon convinced Theo that it was okay to do things outside of your routine. Sometimes that's when the next outcomes happen.
I loved the place this story takes place in, that being Common Grounds, the coffee shop Diccon and his family own. That place was described with so many details and just sounded like such a cool place to be. You could tell they prioritized community and making everyone feel welcome and I loved that.
The romance between the two MC's was great as well, they had a bit of a slow burn going on, the 'will they, won't they' thing happening, but you know what? They got there in the end, and I loved their journey along the way.

Change of Plans is the first book in a new series by Merry Farmer, and I absolutely enjoyed it. I thought it was a cute, cheerful story with no real third act breakup.
Diccon is doing what he loves most: being a barista at Common Grounds, his family's coffee shop. Theo is an architect and a regular customer for his daily dose of caffeine, and he’s a bit shy. They’re both eying each other for quite a while, but only a change in routine sets things in motion.

“You’re the best disaster that’s ever happened to me,” I told him in return. “And I want you to keep on happening to me.”
I loved the interaction between the main characters, as well as the fact that it’s a short story. Vibes: found family, queer community. And I’m looking forward to the next book!

"Change of Plans" is the first book in the Common Grounds series about the loves of three brothers that run a coffee shop. Just gonna say, if someone switched my standard black coffee order with blueberry (ugh), would find a new coffee shop. Not spontaneous at all, Theo Callihan, believes that any change in his orderly world is catastrophic. Was it the coffee that caused a burst pipe damaging his office? It has him working at the coffee shop temporarily. Which puts Diccon Meyers into his orbit.
The story was sweet. The coffee shop, a lively place. Both men are adorable, bubbly Diccon and grumpy Theo. An open mic night ends with a kiss. A short pursuit, small misunderstandings. Just a feel good love story. Short and sweet.

This is book one in the author’s new Common Ground series featuring a wildly popular family owned coffee shop where they sang customers’ orders at each step of the process. In this one we had Diccon, the most fun loving of the three brothers and Theo, a shy young architect completely unaware of his own appeal; both crushing on the other but unsure about making the first move.
This was the sweetest book! At just over a hundred pages, there wasn’t a whole lot of heat but it was extremely low angst while still being adorably sweet and just plain fun to read.
If you happen to be looking for your next book and would rather it not be full of drama, just something to relax and enjoy, check this one out! 4.25 stars

Diccon and Theo are pinning for each other at the counter of Diccon's coffee shop. What it makes it interesting is Theo's personality, very suspicious about changes, quite afraid of them actually. But both jump on a chance.
There is a good story line and I like that there is more than just rose-coloured views and a HEA after 100 pages. They are on the right track, it's definitely more than a HFN but not riding together into the sunset yet.

Diccon is a barista at Common Grounds coffee shop, owned by his family. He gets to work with people he loves and enjoy himself. He has been crushing on Theo an Architect who comes in regularly for a black coffee. Theo is quiet and shy but has been watching Diccon every time he comes in. When Diccon finds out Theo is the person in charge of the new building that is going up, that may destroy the business feelings get stressed. This is a cute story with misdirected communications, romance and trust.

I enjoyed the starter for this series. Well written as always. This author knows how to build a world. I like that it's a low angst, fairly slow build love story, it just felt like a story to lay the groundwork for the series.
Diccon and Theo are so sweet together and bring out the best in each other. They are the perfect couple to open this series.

Merry Farmer writes a range of romances, and Change of Plans is squarely in the contemporary genre, as Diccon and Theo try to find their way through a sort of slow burn / insta love, if you can imagine such a mix. Both men need to do some growing up, but they do it so they can end up together. This is a sweet series starter, so I'm glad I read it, but it was enjoyable for a novella but not my favorite of her books. Here's to seeing where the series goes next. 3.5/5 rounded up.

A new direction for Merry Farmer
A new series from Merry Farmer is always a good thing as far as I am concerned. This one centers around a family coffee shop and the guys finding love there.
This is a sweet shortish story about two young guys who have trouble communicating with each other. I’m interested to see where Ms Farmer takes this premise.

Love Theo and Diccon
This was such a wonderful read of two people totally into each other learning to love and most importantly to trust each other. Theo and Diccon are perfect for each other and I loved how Diccon found Theo's shyness and awkwardness totally sexy. What a great spin on someone who is bashful and awkward to find their one person who absolutely adores them for it

I really enjoyed this short, low angst, easy to read, and very sweet story. I loved both main characters, their interactions, and their relationship, with a grumpy/sunshine vibe and high chemistry. It's a perfect light book, that I read in one sitting.

These two couldn’t be more oblivious to their feelings 😩 They were both so into each other yet neither had the courage to speak up.
I got a little annoyed at Diccon for making assumptions about Theo’s thoughts. His insecurities almost cost him his happiness. He jumped to conclusions without giving Theo the benefit of the doubt.
Looking forward to the next book.

A sweet story of a perennially happy coffee shop owner and the nervous accountant who stops by each morning. It has Merry's usual excellence and intrigue along with a splash of humor, a very enjoyable read.

Great story
I really enjoyed this story. The idea that a change in your routine could lead to the best results is a fun concept. This is the first book in a new series and I am already completely invested in all of the characters getting their own story.

This book got me out of my reading slump. I enjoyed the meet cute. The relationship as it slowly developed. These two were incredibly sweet together. I also loved how they worked together for a solution to their problem. It was a sweet story with a wonderful ending.

Wonderful story of Diccon Meyers, owner of the Common Grounds coffee shop and Theo Callihan, an architect and loyal customer of Common Grounds. Loved these characters and how they were together. Always get immersed in Ms Farmer's stories and this is no different.

This is the first book in the Common Grounds series. It is about two characters, Diccon who greets customers in the family-owned local coffee shop/social hub hangout and Theo who is a regular of the coffee shop, a very shy architect who has his routines otherwise disaster strikes.
At a nighttime event at Common Grounds, Diccon discovers that Theo has hidden talents and is blown away by how much he likes Theo. Once Theo has finished, Diccon springs a kiss on Theo who is initially shocked but then returns the kiss. Diccon is delighted with their connection and once the kiss is finished and Theo realises what has happened, he bolts for the door.
This is one of the books storylines of how Diccon slowly encourages Theo to take risks and vary his routines, as they get to know each other better. Diccon also finds he has some baggage that he also needs to address if they have any hope of being together.
It is a wholesome MM HEA love story that is a quick read. Can't wait for the second book that is about one of Diccon's brothers Sam and his best friend and coworker Brian.
