As a special agent in Santa’s secret service, Noel Green is a man on a mission: to protect Santa and his identity. But when a vengeful elf threatens to take Santa down, everything starts to snowball out of control. This hilarious novel puts a new spin on the classic idea of a Christmas romance. Written by three TV comedy-writing vets, it’s a laugh-out-loud read!
I normally love "Santa" books but this one was not great for me. This is a local author, I have no idea who recommended it to me. The reason I finished it, first - it was short:) and second I usually feel that if the story is not offensive in anyway, I will likely learn something from it. It took nearly till the last chapter. I like Santa books that have explanations for how he does "everything" and that he is real.
There was some historical facts that I assume are "facts". One quote I enjoyed about the Macy's Parade. "Parade floats got their name from early European parades where the main events were large displays built on barges, which were pulled along canes or rivers." Who knew? but it makes sense.
Then last chapter, Noel Green (a semi-believer adult) receives a personally delivered gift from Santa. A specific watch from the Secret Spy Series. Something he always wanted as a child and never got. He asked Santa "Did I do something wrong when I was young? Is that why you never came to my house?" He replies " You didn't do anything wrong, son, far from it. We have a whole warehouse full of these undeliverable packages. With some children, there are circumstances that are out of my control. In some cases, there are homes where I'm not welcome. Your father was a good man but grown-ups sometimes lose faith and blame their misfortunes on those who could help them."
So true.
Others may enjoy this story, this is just my opinion. Just a little too James Bondish for my taste. :)
I loved this book! Such a fun twist on Christmas and many other legendary characters and unexplained things. Super fast read. I’m going to encourage my 9 year old son to read it next Christmas.
Bryce Clark et al, you almost persuade me to believe in Santa again. This highly believable book is suitable for reading to children (a chapter a night) or an engaging read for adults with plenty of adventure and intriguing characters. A new Christmas tradition!
