My name is Cassidy. Cassidy Edwards. And I'm the first of my kind.

The Job
Hunting a mysterious force attacking the House of Rowle with spells of the most malevolent, arachnid kind.

The Players
A wickedly handsome warlock-of-a-boss, a hostile Nether Reach Keeper hell-bent on my arrest, and a vampire who just might believe that he’s my father.

My Problem

Like many of us on this planet, Carmen Caine/Madison Adler is from another world. She spends every moment she can scribbling stories on sticky notes that her kids find posted all over the car, house, and barn.

When she is not working as a software engineer, she is busy ferrying her kids to various appointments, writing lyrics for her husband's songs, taking care of the dog Tigger and his heart condition, attempting to tame her three insane cats, scratching her three Nigerian Dwarf Goats behind the horns or coddling her flock of thirty bizarre chickens from around the world.

I really want to like this book. And series. It has an interesting storyline.

But...

Cassidy is an annoying twit who is really too stupid to live. She has the attention span of a gnat. She seems vapid and very unlikable. I actually want to know more about Lucian even if I think he's a butthead.

Will I continue with this series? Maybe. If only because I'm both curious and a glutton for punishment.

Confused mess

It's an interesting story but there is too much distraction and no good segues into the plot. It needs a bit of a polish and some organization of the characters and their back stories.

Ah, well... I still believe the mythology is interesting and the story has my attention. I'm not a fan of Cassidy. There's no real peril and she seems to have everything going for her.

A super powerful Highland vampire who's old as shit is all in love with her, she's this mysterious hybrid creature who's incredibly powerful but doesn't know it yet, her imp companion is this super rare powerful kind but doesn't know it yet either, she's joined to the hip with her love interest who is also incredibly powerful warlock and they can't keep their hands off each other, she's the daughter of one of the most powerful and feared creature thing person, she can somehow open the gates to another dimension that no one can open, she's already unique with her power usage....

Everything about her screams Mary Sue. I'm not into her and, to be frank, I could care less. I find myself caring more for every character BUT her. The story still has me hooked to check out the next book to see what happens next. Just not for her.

I loved this second book in the series about Cassandra (Cas). For herself she thinks she is a monster , she surely is supriced when she hears who would be her father. Ricky is still a imp bitch (sorry for my language). Their are old characters, warlocks, witches and vampires. The rest must kept unrevield. 😀😁
Revenge is deseptive, leading one to believe that the end justifes the means. At first blush, it deliberate a sweetness beond measure. But the first blush passes fast, reaveling the true price, hiding like water under the hay. The choice is to walk away or dig deeper, much like a gambler, praying that the next round will pay for all. The wise walk away......

I am looking forward to the next novel in this series. 😀🌹😀

Not As Good As The First Book

So very tired of Cassidy and her libido. Get a grip girl. Just because a guy holds you doesn't mean you melt into a puddle. So juvenile. And zoning out constantly, is not holding water. It is really stupid to have her lose concentration every time she needs information. It doesn't make sense. This installment of Cassidy Edwards didn't flow for me. The ZING wasn't there. I felt it fell flat.

The story and the writing are great.
I couldn't get past how much cass kept ruining absolutely everything. She and her imp, actually her imp actually helped out. All cass did was manage to betray practically everyone somehow and all because of her greed to get revenge on one guy. Why could she not have talking to her warlock about getting revenge on the vampire emilio? Ya I don't think she deserves Lucien. Dorian is sexy and he seems to have good intentions for her yet she has a sort of odd attracted disdain for him. We shall see how that pans out in the next book. but I digress. Again, In this book she managed to make enemies of just about everyone. It was very rattling and made for some tough reading. Ex. The imp was messing around,no one noticing but her, during a secret mission where she isn't supposed to make a scene, and she goes and makes a scene for no good reason- it just didn't sit right with me. Because of these oddly placed dumb things she does I had to take off a star. It left me cringing just thinking about all the deep doo doo she has caused; it isn't the best kind of drama to look forward to.
Still no sex and no cussing. Very British flair.

Is revenge worth it? That is what Cassidy has to figure out in this installment of the series. Lucian's wards are broken and there is another witch out to destroy him. Add in problems with the Templars and Terzi, and they have enemies everywhere.

Cassidy finally gets her showdown with Emilio, but she ends up on the losing end. However, this leads her the the Nether Reaches where she learns more about herself and solidifies her revenge plot. She plans to use Dorian in her plans to extract revenge on Emilio.

In the end, Cassidy makes decisions that will cost her her relationship with Lucian. She truly likes him and is attracted to him, but if he finds out what she did he is more likely to kill her than forgive her. Thay is if Tabitha doesn't get to her first! Do not mess with a woman's hair!

Another enjoyable story. Full of action and drama as well as suspense. I love all of the elements coming into play here. We are finding out more and more about Cassidys origins in here. We learned a bit in the last book. But in here it gets delved Into more deeply. I love the banter between Cassidy and other characters. Her and Tabitha start having issues. And Ricky is charming as always

The deeper she gets in the harder it will be for her to get out of this pickle she seems to have found herself. I love the back and forth between Tension Lucian and Cassidy.

I listened to this on audio. Lynn Devereux Does an amazing job! Her voices for these characters are strong and she doesn’t waver. I know each character whey they talk by the voices she is using. Superb!

Karma Can Be A Bitch

Excellent book and I still think Cassidy has to learn vengeance has serious consequences. Lucian and Cassidy had their moments ! For second book in a series you can not read it alone as there is information necessary in the first book to make you completely understand the nuances of the story. Heath, he imp and the fire drake all play a part. Cassidy is learning more about the world she lives in and you will as well as you read this excellent book!

3.5 stars.
This book definitely took an interesting turn. The story and setting becomes more complex and compelling. One thing that bothered me, though, was Cassidy. I understand her need for revenge, but I didn't like the way it was all consuming. The way she said that was the purpose in her life; I mean really? And also, that she was willing to betray her allies for her revenge.

Ahh thank you Carmen Caine!

I really like this series, full of twist and turns, fights, mysterious "charmed" characters. Confusion, whom to cheer for, whom to want to lose. Good vs Not so Good, and those just plain evil. Vampires, witches, warlocks, werewolves, spirits, spectral what a mix of society. Of course everyone is fantastic both visual and talented.

It's hard to take revenge on someone willing to do anything, to anyone. However, revenge is definitely a dish that needs to be served with a very cool head.
Although total revenge hasn't been obtained, part has, as well as a whole lot more knowledge and experience. If she can keep her wits about her, she may just live to see another day!

I love how this storyline is progressing. The characters are growing well and have great personalities. Carmen is fearless and a bit mean as I was shocked at the twists in this book. A brilliant performance from Lynn.

My, my. What a tangled web we weave when at first.........You know the rest and quite frankly I hereby dubbed this the themesong for "Spellfinder." Our main character, Cassidy Edwards finally comes face to face with the man she has wanted revenge on from the time she was capable of understanding his existence. Emilio, is an ancient one and possesses power unimaginable. When he meets with Cassidy, he decides to show her just who is in charge and just a wee bit of his capabilities. Yet, Emilio, apparently hasn't learn the first rule of the streets....."You never, ever, mess with someone's mama!" It doesn't matter that she is a lousy mother. You just don't do it!

After healing from being thrown off a building by none other than her nemesis, Emilio, Cassidy finally learns what it means to want revenge. She is also growing in her own skills and capabilities and learning her destiny. Unfortunately, in order to enact her revenge she learns that she may have to do the unthinkable and betray someone she is growing to care about, Lucien. But, he would do that to her in a heartbeat, wouldn't he? Well, sometimes we think we know what we are doing when in fact our actions set us down a course that was never meant to be.

There are plenty of new characters, twists and turns, intrigue, action and total pandemonium in this little edition. I believe that this book is better than the first because the author took greater time in setting the stage for what occurs. The previous book was light on details and worldbuilding whereas this book gives us greater insight into what is going on. That does not mean that we fully know the affects of Cassidy's actions and the book leaves us in with one major cliffhanger. However, it also sets up the stage nicely for what will come in book three and I for one am excited.

I had a hard time getting into this book at the beginning. I found Cassidy to be a bit petulant and Lord Rowle an antagonistic douche. These opinions weren't any different from the way I felt at the end of the last book; but the pace of the plot, direction of the story, and intriguing nature of the other characters interests me, so I digress. Cassidy, hell bent on revenge, and Lucian on employing her start this one off as if the last one never happened, but it quickly changes pace and piques my interest all over again. I just love all dialogue that includes Ricky, and think that there is truly something special going on with Heath and I feel like that needs to be cultivated a bit more. I would definitely buy a spin-off about Heath and his pack. I'd love to hear Carmen's take on wolves (I mean he communicates with everyone while shifted!), Heath's backstory, how he ended up with the Rowles, etc...
It seems like there will be a bit of love triangle introduced in the next book, and lots of espionage and confusion.. I'm imagining it's going to be something like a paranormal episode of Three's Company, so I'm not sure if I'll be buying tickets to that ride... We'll see.

Unlike book one, Monster, this novel didn't do it for me. There were some neat surprises and new reveals in this excellent story line, but I was getting annoyed with most of the main characters-- there is no communication or trust among them which means they all have their own agenda-- yeah, this may be part of the plot and how the writer wishes to develop the characters, but it seems to drag the story out for me. Others may really like the way the author presents the story, for me, I kept snorting at the protagonists because sharing information would have resolved so many issues. Also, I never really figured out why Cassidy was under obligation to work with Lucian-- I thought their contract was for one job-- and Lucien defaulted on a huge condition of her contract-- the reasoning was never emphasized or explained. Frustrating for me why Cassidy didn't walk away after demanding her fee.

As with the first installment, Caine had me enthralled in her world filled with magic and the supernatural. She has a great way of leaving you wanting to know more. As I was going through the book, I did not want to put it down, but I guess I have to sleep too right?

In this story, Cassidy finds herself further down her path to revenge, and learns what revenge truly feels like. You have to be willing to do whatever it takes, but the real question is, is she ready to do just that. Is she willing to lose the people that she has come to care about? I’ll zip my lips on what comes next so as to not spoil anything! (There is nothing worse than spoilers!)

Anyways, I also really enjoyed how the story progressed, and quite relished the LOL moments! That Ricky just has a knack for causing problems!

Good read but beware of the cliffhanger

I loved the book but not the ending since now I have to wait for the next chapter in Cassidy's story. Lucian needs to show Cassidy she is important to him and Cassidy needs to figure out how to get Dorian to make peace with Lucian. I love Ricky and his antics. I was a bit disappointed with the end since there were too many loose ends to tie up the story. I get the fact that this means more stories about Cassidy but I am really frustrated with Lucian and his back story of revenue and his ancestors story of lady Elizabeth needs to be followed up. I can't wait for the next book! So many mysteries to solve and loose ends to tie up!

This book traverses through a minefield of mind games, frustrations, betrayal and revelations. Cass is a chess piece constantly moving between powers who have agendas beyond what they'll share. She appears stuck, however; her honor is to herself and a few others. Revenge may force her down a path she's not ready for. Her heritage isn't what she thought or anyone else either. While some things become more clear, there is always a catch. What prices will be wrought and how much will Cass be able to pay once all is said and done? What side will she end up on and what monsters will be unwittingly released?

Not as great as the first. Some of chemistry between the characters was not as good and/or was different but then needed expanded to be not felt as if it was added as an afterthought or the author had ran out of time to properly integrate it into the story. Overal I enjoyed the story and will continue to look forward to new books in the series.
This is a series that's best read from book one to follow the character stories and to follow some of the plot lines. I liked the story in that while the are plenty of stories out there about vampires, fae and warlocks, etc the way this has been done is in a unique way
These stores would make great audiobooks too

Love!!

I was super stoked when I got the notification this was available. I love Cassidy Edwards! She's such a badass, and the story is awesome. This takes up shortly after the first novel ends. Cassidy is still trying to exact her vengeance on Emilio, she and Lucian are still fighting like two stray cats, plus a whole slew of new info comes to light.

The Good:
+ Love the characters. Everyone is so well written and developed, I love them all (even the ones I should be hating).
+ Super stoked that Dorian is back. Sexy, Scottish vampire? Yes, please!
