REVIEW OF BAH, HUMBUG (Christmas Street Romantic Comedy Christmas Novella #1): “This isn't a book; it’s magic. What could be a sappy Christmas story turns into a wonderful, magical, bring-the-family-together Christmas story. I wasn't merely reading Lexi and Kyle's story, I was there with them, being part of their story. I came up for breath only when I was done with the book (I read it at one sitting). I've never given 5 stars to any book. But this is such a wonderful, heartwarming read that I felt compelled to.”

I’m an author who had a somewhat unorthodox upbringing. I was raised in South America and the Middle East, and wrote my first stories as a teenager in Kuwait, where my sister and I proved it really is hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk. I wrote my first novel in three months on a typewriter when I was 21, I used every romance cliché possible (including amnesia — need I say more?), and never rewrote anything, which is why it’s so much fun to pull it out occasionally when I need a good laugh. I wrote sporadically until my youngest child (who is now 18) was two, when I decided it was time to either actually start writing, or to stop saying I was a writer. So I took a class and started doing the scary things that writing requires. Now I’ve written about twelve novels and several children’s books.
This book started out great. I loved the characters, the conflict, the set up- everything. But then things just didn't work anymore. The development stopped, things just happened, the plot jumped and then it ended. I felt like this book ended way too soon- it had so much potential to be a full on fantastic book. I was left feeling unsatisfied. Plus, the MC's didn't even kiss once. :( I wish the author would go back and redo this book. Let things progress and develop more, build up to a kiss, let the conflict run it's course, allow me to stay connected to the characters. No jumping across months and leaving things out.
A cute simple romance about a billionaire and the antiques specialist hired to get his family estate ready for sale. Some clever lines, and some bonding over serious issues. Not my favorite from Heather Horrocks, but still a good read.
This plot of this book isn't quite as smoothly handled as previous stories in the series. It felt a bit rushed in places.
Lucas's transition from attraction and interest to being in serious like and spilling his darkest secrets happens too quickly to be believed. I wish Lucas and Ivy's relationship development had been given more fully so that I had the chance to get to know them better.
Still, I give the story credit for being different in an interesting and engaging way, and as always, the characters are easy to like and care about. Pemberton was a fun trip!
I'm loving this series. It's quick, sweet and fun. This one just seemed shorter than the rest. When the book seemed to be wrapping up, I took a look down and see where I was at. About 73%. Dang. I wasn't ready for that. I think this one could have used a little bit more before the end. Otherwise, it was just as sweet as the rest.
A quick happy read from Heather Horrocks. I love her chick lit novellas. But, this one was truly special. The hero is a complex man who recognizes what is missing from his fast paced billionaire life style and grabs onto the heroine and holds on for dear life. Ivy is a woman who doesn't fit the vapid size zero world of the women he has been dating and in fact she stands up to him and nearly walks out of their first meeting.
As they work to appraise and sell the family mansion Lucas opens up to Ivy why he hasn't entered the house since he was 17. Ivy's love and common sense approach to life slowly open Lucas eyes to the past and how it formed him. This was a novella that was delightful from page one. Loved the ending and it left me smiling.
Wasn't sure what to expect with the title as it was, but loving Ms Horrock's other stories I have read I took a chance and wasn't disappointed! Thank you for taking something bad (in reference to the movie that is close too this title and yes, that is my opinion) and making it something completely good. Both main characters had challenges to over come - Lucas more than ivy, and they did through a shared strength. Hurray for good writing, witty characters, and CLEAN, fun, romantic reading.
This was a fabulous story. Yes, it was a shade predictable, but it's a romance. Pemberton is a great favorite with me. I love Ivy, and the healing that she brings Lucas. I was honestly surprised by the "locked room". Really, really fabulous overall. Totally worth the read.
Heather Horrocks excels in writing quick, easy reads that are like cotton candy...you wouldn't want that to be the only thing in your literary diet as it's not substantial or filling, but as an occasional treat it's fun and delicious. I enjoy her writing style, the fact that her books are clearly edited and her clean, funny romances.
Love that you used the characters of Tarzan and Jane and Tinkerbell and Peter Pan. Light and refreshing. Gives hope that a billionaire and a average girl can fall in love. Keep up the wonderful stories. I never have the patience to wait for your next book.
When I first started reading I figured it would be a different kind of story about the Aspen Grove clan, I'm happy they were in there- however, the last part from the movie at Candy's to the end were pretty much predictable. Cute story though.
I though t this book was cute and a fast read. I really enjoyed much better than 50 shades of grey. Very clean and fun!!! I wish there was a part two of 50 shade of greystoke.
