With her characteristic warm and compassionate approach, Allison DuBois reaches out to those who have lost loved ones and explains the journey of the soul after death. She explores what is experienced in the transition to the afterlife and the ways that you can reconnect with those who have passed over. Through sharing the stories of children, parents and spouses who have died, Allison conveys that while death appears final, it is never too late to heal the wounds between the living and the deceased. Allison's insights help readers to find a psychic or medium who is reliable and she offers advice for those coping with loss, including the trauma of loss through murder or suicide. By exploring death from the perspectives of those who have passed over, as well as the stages of bereavement, Allison tenderly reveals that there is a path through grief that brings hope, healing and reconnection with the people we have lost.
Allison Dubois's unique story, the inspiration for the hit NBC TV series Medium, started during her senior year at Arizona State University while she was interning at the D.A.'s office. Soon after, researchers at the University of Arizona validated her ability through a series of tests. Allison continues to support research as a medium, as a member of the Veritas Research Program Mediums Committee, and as a member of the Forever Family Foundation's Medium Advisory Board. I'd say that there is a particular audience that these books are marketed to. Perhaps in the midst of grief and in the quest for hope, one of more likely to overlook a disjointed narrative by the author.
The stories are ok, but appear to be quite slanted towards an Australian audience (is the book sold anywhere else?!) but there's also a fairly large assumption that you're familiar with her other works, her family, and her methods. If you're not quite across these areas it would be an even more confusing read.
So, I can only gather that the particular audience would receive some sort of validation or comfort from the shared experiences, but as that audience isn't me, I thought it wasn't as strong as she could have made it.
Today is the 1-week anniversary of the death of the youngest of my four daughters at the age of 57. 5 days before that, my baby sister died at the age of 71. I have been a fan of Allison Dubois since I watched Medium for the first time. The deaths struck me such a blow that I was left wondering why in the world I am still breathing. What is the use of my still being here?
This book is helping me to prepare for the stages of grief that are beginning. I have faith that I will survive the grief but I am not at all sure that I will survive with any sense of purpose intact. Allison seems to think I might.
Fascinating. Helpful to me as I am dealing with the death of my mother. I enjoyed the television show loosely based on her life and was curious about the books she has written. I am not sold on her vision of life after death, but am interested in what she says. I want to read more.
