"Three at a time" tells us not to be complacent on our victories and neither be demotivated on our losses.
3 @ a Time is a MBA college based story written in First person by the protagonist Deepankar describing his tenure in the college and numerous affairs with girls . Book is the debut work of author and the Protagonist is portrayed as a Philander , Can say a Play Boy who is extremely popular in college and had relationship with so many , literally , so-many girls . He's portrayed as a laborious and never die attitude which keeps him popular among college crowd , either positive or negative , he's really popular . As the name suggest , 3 @ a Time , Protagonist had three girlfriends at a time in college and book revolves around the fact how he handle all of 'em on same time .
What I love most in this book is the scenario of DahiHandi where a muslim guy is portrayed as an active element in making the human pyramid which made the readers think about the Communal violence which aggravated many people during the riots , and was only started as a result of some dirty politics and was not hatred of the people . And Applause for author , for fulfilling his social duty by giving message of Religion Tolerance :)
One of the chapter begins with an interesting paragraph , which is what-reader-thinks part . Paragraph goes as " An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind ' were the words of father of the nation MK Gandhi , but in today's world every single person believes ,'An eye for an eye makes a blind person see the world '. People believed in tit for tat and revenge is a dish , serve hot for everyone ." So I'm yet to decide which Point of view is right , MK Gandhi's or Protagonist , so till then advantage of doubt goes to MK Gandhi . While reading what I found difficult to chew is the fact that Protagonist too much smart and handsome that a lot of girls fell on him . Beside it , Author embedded the scenario of Raging but there's no criticism of this crime which swallow many innocent lives every year . And last point which I found Negative is the name of Girls , Sound quite similar and confusing . I found it bit confusing because with every chapter i found a new girl in initial chapters .
Otherwise , its a classy debut which is filled with lot of humour and the last 50 pages are really hooking , foiling of a devious plan with the help of someone which is never expected .
Congrats for ur debut book author..This book is a normal college life story with large dose of flirting, ambitious about carrier and studies, campus politics and maintaining the so called "cool or should i say casanova image"..From Deepankar's never say die attitude to his series of girlfriends , From Pooja's supportive aspect to Ritika and Sonali's viscous plan, From HR placement cell to Brand Committee, From "DahiHandi" To New years eve..From "Handling the tough situations with ease" to breaking up hearts...this book is "total campus masala"
Lessons Learnt :- :-Never be over confident about urself, even if the deal is 100% sure never ever believe the buyer if ur a sales man till the monetary transactions is made...as u don't know wen will the stars play a trick on u.. :-Sometimes assumptions are the biggest enemies of mankind even if ur sure about any activity u should never ever assume (who knows they might turn into a reality some day :P) :-Life is an unexpected ride sometimes it doesn't turn out the way u wanted so brace urself...do ur best and leave the rest :-People in 21st century only believed in tit for tat and revenge is a dish, served for everyone..
Positives :- :-The language used is very simple and understandable being a debut writer he is bang on where language is concerned :- I just loved the attitude of Deep towards life (his never say die attitude, his ambitious and hardworking phase was very well described) :-Characters were described well (Pooja was my favourite among all, way she supported deep was commendable)
Negatives :- :- Apart from printing errors and grammatical mistakes...The story Fails to connect any chords with me, though author has tried his best to keep the flow going but this story loses its pace n fails to keep us entertained till the end.. :- This story is way too much for me to accept as a female (i know its a tale n all but breaking hearts and making fun of love by saying every second girl i love u and all is not cool according to me) so i can say guys might like it as they can learn how to manage "3@ a time" (wink)
First of all congrats to the author for his debut book and Clear blurb indicated the complete “campus tale”. I had spent my last few nights for this book. Author used clean and understandable language and story conveying approach was commendable and notable one Cu's in the debut he "succeeded". Each and every scenario author described was good with lots of humors ,toying, campus politics, desire about the career also I really enjoyed while reading. Characterization delineated well I like the Main Protagonist Deepankar and pooja role among the whole involved in this story. I felt many characters are crossing the plot little baffle with the names. Coming to the Negative I feel plot was not much “Stronger” amidst author tried his level optimum to hold the reader but unfortunately tune out. Apart from editing and few grammatical faults book was good and nice read. I Hope he will be come back soon with rectifiable venture. I would like to give 3/5 stars to this book. - See more at: http://bloggerkarthickudaiy.blogspot....
☆☆☆ A book for all the engineer and management students. Flirting, Love and Campus Life, narrated by the Author. The concept was not fresh but still one can read it, If they are interested in Campus Life.
Few days ago, I have read the book 3 @ A Time by Diptendu Shekhar Chakraborty . It is the author’s debut book.
I will try to give an overall opinion/experience with the book.
To start with, I must say that the author’s language is simple and fluidic but not good enough to be called a great prose style. So clearly, the book is focused on the young readers of India. Our protagonist is Deepankar (and also is the narrator of the story) is a cool dude, and is so handsome/cute that most of the girls fall for him. In the whole book, a commendable number of girls have fallen for him. Before going into further details of the story, I like to praise the author for something I personally use a lot. While introducing the protagonist, he doesn’t use the conventional way to saying “My name is this, and I am of height this and blah blah”; but rather he introduces him via some other character’s mouth. This is good way of introducing main characters.
Now, let’s go deeper in the story. So, our hero Deepankar is a cool and overconfident stud who falls first for a girl Deepannita (strangely, many characters have the prefix Dip or Deep, e.g. Deepankar, Deepannita, Deepika and more), and then he discovers she is a lesbian. Yeah, that’s right. This is something new I recently read in any Indian writing. That’s something of good twist. Then he climbs the stairs of success, and more girls come near him. Not to mention, he himself is somewhat pervert, always trying to find a girl to get into her pants. Despite having a girlfriend Naina before joining the MBA college (our main venue where things happen), he indulges himself in more-than-a-kiss-and-less-than-sex with three girls(Ritika, Sonali, Priya and almost Pooja). Utterly confused, who actually he is in love, he plays along with three of them. The girls are also too desperate to be with him and also in all the case they themselves go to Deepankar for a relationship. So, we can’t put all the blame on him. But that doesn’t mean he has a likable character.
The book also gives us few good lessons like, not being overconfident but be confident enough and dealing complicated situation with calm mind. Out protagonist also has shown bravery by facing his problems on his own. There is an important scene of facing three girls together being caught. In that case, he’s acted smartly, by replying confidently and avoiding a public insult; though his reasoning is not much logical. Still, I like the way he’s handled the situation.
He became The Cutest Smile, member of placement cell and very popular. He also has faced some downfalls like being sacked from placement cell, and being denied of appearing campus interviews. He’s fought in those moments and become successful. There is also a good message for religious harmony.
To give an overall view, I can say that this book is not awesome but good enough to be an entertainer. The authors has to improve a lot and I believe he has the capability to become a great writer. I wish him all the best for all his future endeavors.
Deepankar, a B.E. graduate, is admitted in to the Khandala Business School for pursuing his post graduation degree.
Just like what happens with the hostellers in normal life, Deepankar and his friends are ragged. But, Deepankar being witty and friendly befriends his seniors and manages to become ‘THE COOL DUDE’ in his college. He charms everybody with his dancing skills.
I have heard people saying that having a boyfriend/ girlfriend changes a person’s life completely- those late night phone calls, texting each other during lectures, going shopping, dinners, birthdays, anniversaries, arguments, fights etc.- it all bugs a person to an extent beyond measure. Here, Deepankar manages to balance all three relationships! I am surprised. Not even a single girl comes to know about Deepankar’s three timing affair.
And then dawns a day, when the 3 girls face the reality!
3 @ a time is a story of Deepankar’s genuine love for Nisha (and then Pooja), his physical attraction for Ritika, Sonali and Sanjana, his innocent crush on Dwipannita, his negligence towards the placement cell, his war with the studies and what not! 3 @ a time is a sure pick for readers who love to read about college life.
What did I like about the book?
Though Deepankar portrays himself as a Casanova, he believes in true love. His love for Nisha and Pooja can be seen. But he fails to admit it. Deepankar’s dedication towards the Brand Committee. Deepankar’s and Pooja’s friendship. (I envy it.)
What I did not like about the book?
The editing has not been done properly. With proper editing, this book will surely rock.
P.S: This novel has a great scope for a sequel. Eagerly waiting to know what happened to Deepankar after stepping out from college.
Falling in love is one of the most exquisite feeling, but what if one person falls in love with 3 at a time? 3 at a time revovles around deepankar and his tryst with trust, love, relationships, betrayal and humiliation with 3 girls at the same time along with maintaining his reputation as the wonder boy of his college.. It is said that love happens once, but what if everytime you fall in love with the wrong person at the right time? Will the search for his perfect soul mate be completed after this rendezvous with all the 3 girls ? Will deepankar still have faith in love after facing so much of heartbreaks? And in the end, what will happen, what game will destiny play?
To find out the answer to all these unanswered questions, read 3@ a time..!
Positive aspects : This novel is full of spices and has perfect ingredients, the story will keep you hooked, the die hard college friendship, raging and you can find everything which forms part of college life ..dance, drama, action, lust, love, college crushes, humour, agony and ecstasy are some of the major ingredients and one can easily relate with all these things.and can relive his/her college life once again.. One will realise the need of friends, and the importance of many other things through this story.. The ending was really amazing..the climax part is intriguing and it covered all the boring parts of the book..
Negative aspects : Publishers and the editorial team just disappointed me, this book needs some serious editing, and lack of proofreading just made it awful..! It could have been better had it been edited good..!
Conclusion : 3 at a time it overall an amazing book with perfect blend of spices, and even after all the flaws and lack of editing, this is a one time read book and has a really good scope, if only it goes for re-editing once..!
Rating : Bookcover/blurb : 3/5 Editing/proofreading :1.5/5 Title : 2.5/5 Story : 3/5 Overall : 2.75/5

3 @ a time is written simply and has the quality that makes one want to read the book cover to cover in one sitting. I’m sure the story makes connection with every reader in one form or the other. The story is overwhelming with the colours of love, friendship, relationship and that too in different contexts. it’s certainly readable, and even with all its flaws is a pretty catchy story. Above all, it is that ‘All’s well that ends well’ theme that is one of the most striking element of the book. Overall, the book is not extraordinary but you will be engaged in the story and will be able to complete it.
Simple writing style festooned with good articulation makes the Indie-book readers glued to it. I found this book suitable for all those Indian readers who prefer light read, simple and candid writing fashion. As you start reading, you wouldn’t feel to stop at any place for a moment, you got so hooked to it, that you feel like finishing it in a single sit.
It is time for you to turn inwards, dear author * Review of 3 @ a time *
There are writers who write what they see and they write about every minor detail that makes their work stand out and probably be read centuries later. There are others who see what no one else is able to see and let us have a glimpse of their interpretations. Then there are those who imagine things and take us on a fantasy trip of a lifetime. In India we have another segment of writers who write even though they are not bothered about the difference between ‘then’ and ‘than’… and they along with their editors at the publishing house don’t seem to understand that Pimpri cannot be spelled Pimri even once. ‘3 @ a time’ by Diptendu Sekhar Chakraborty is a classic example of this last category of writers that the book stores in India are inundated with.
Books like the one that I am reviewing now are essential and must be read… if only to understand how books must never be written. I have finally met an author who has the time and the energy to write pages of conversation that is, at best, mundane… and when he is confronted by a situation where the protagonist can prove to the world that he has mettle, he (the author) calmly summarises the sublime truth in a meaningless paragraph:
I decided to take the matter in my own hands and started to apply through consultancy firms which I believed could help me in getting through with a big firm. My belief came fruitful as when only a few days were left for our batch to leave the college and go back, I cracked my interview with one of the biggest car makers Volkswagen as a marketing specialist with an excellent pay package which was way higher than the highest pay package in the last five years of placement of our college.
Let me add here that the student we are talking about is from the Khandala Business School, has been rejected by Videocon, the faculty are refraining from recommending his resume, and the fellow is ‘in a state of depression’. The stage is all set for a writer to take advantage and give us a glimpse into the wayward machinations of destiny or transform the resolve of a mind that has just woken up into some scintillating repartees that win him his placement. But what do we get? A rather flaccid paragraph of two lines as if a completely sullied ecosystem can be magically converted into an environmentally friendly bonanza with Uma Bharti announcing: Let the Ganga be clean! This never happens.
The book, however, is not an inquest into the tests and travails of an engineering student who has decided to study management. The author, in his wisdom, decided to let the protagonist weave around himself a mesh of relationships that appear and disappear at their whim. So we have Pooja, Naina, Priya, Deepa, Sunita, Sanjana, Sonali, Anita, Ritika, Divya and probably a few more not in the order in which I write their names, prancing meaninglessly and having conversations that are aren’t really improbable but convey nothing of substance except the fact that our youth in college is actually wasting time. Authors need to realise that though a large percent of life is mundane, it does not really have to find its way on the pages of a novel for which paper is made by pulping trees. Come on, if you don’t have anything worthy to be communicated, just focus on your job managing people or selling cars or fudging ledgers… don’t burden the world with a meaningless tale where losing virginity in a moving train is discussed as if there is nothing more important to live for. Read the conversation and you’ll know what I am talking about…
Me – “So you mean to say that nothing happened between you two when you went along with him to Kanpur last month on a train journey?”
Pooja – “That’s news to me. By the way what exactly happened?”
Me – “Forget it if you two are good friends then anyways that incident wouldn’t be true either.”
Pooja – “But really I want to know what exactly are the rumours about me and Asif that have being doing the round in college.”
Me – “Well apart from the marriage rumour, it is said that you too lost your virginity with each other that too on that journey to Kanpur last month in the train.”
Pooja – “That’s gross as even if I want to lose my virginity, I wouldn’t really lose it on a moving object as the friction is too much and I don’t want any moving objects help to lose my virginity. I want to lose it on my own.”
I am stunned. I am speechless. Not just with the ludicrous interpretative intelligence of the author, but also because the sentences willingly mock poor Wren and Martin and make them turn restlessly in their graves. And if this is indeed representative of the college going Indian youth, then the country is doomed.
Why do people write? I guess it is sometimes to share their interpretations or to give tangible expressions to the way they have solved problems. People write to purge their inner withered and scorched selves and also to give a faithful picture to the life that they have lived. If Diptendu declares that his book is about the true lives of students in the cities that are mentioned, I’d say it is an excellent piece of fiction that tells the real story of India. Otherwise, the book deserves to be pulped and the publisher needs to be forgotten fast...
Review Point: 3.75 Author: Diptendu Sekhar Chakraborty Publisher: Om Ji Publishers Genre: Fiction/Love ISBN: 978-93-84028-36-7 Edition: First, February 2015 Page Count: 192
Platform: Dipankar, who is not handsome and much dull in study, takes admission in MBA college at Khandala. Here he gets a good friend Sunny as roommate. At the very beginning of college, Dipankar falls in love with Deepa. But, gets big jolt when comes to know the truth about her. He diverts his mind and gets committed with Priya. Within couple of months of relationship with Priya, he meets another girl Sonali. Love takes place between them. Meanwhile another girl enters in the story, Ritika, who is girlfriend of Sunny, proposes Deepankar and again he becomes committed with another girl. On the other side, he is also engaged with Naina who lives in Pune. Besides, Pooja is also best friend of Deepankar. But story takes twist when all Priya, Ritika and Sonali come in contact. What happens next? Who Deepankar actually loved at last? Will he be able to be in college after these love stories? To know, go through the entertaining journey of 3 @ A Time.
Strength Of The Book: Writing style is really good and suits best to story. Character justification is done properly. Every detail of a life of student is explained very well which gives strength to the story. Book doesn’t make bore to readers and lets them laugh on the stupidity of characters. Writer has touched the real desire of teenagers and people of their 20’s and 30’s. Dialogue writing is also a positive factor which makes book “a must read”. Author has presented the very common theme in effective manner.
Weakness of the book: Typos and grammatical errors stick to story after couple of pages from start. As per the theme, book lacks literature which is the breath of love story narration. Writer has not worked much on other issues after love stories which are depicted in the book. Though the end is good but the way to end the book is a bit poor.
Conclusion: Full of entertainment, this book is best to read by youth. With best narration, writer has touched the heart of readers and got success to have appreciation from them for his work. Title and cover page do not properly match to the story. Book makes professionals to remember their old days spent in college and other turns at that spell of age. Those, who want to have spice of love, must read life of Dipankar with this novel “3 @ A Time”
Meet Deepankar, our famous MBA student. Great dancer, good at winning hearts and no doubt 'The Dude' whom girls can't seem to resist. Confident, playboy and unfaithful - that's Deepankar for beginners!
Plot:
The story revolves around Deepankar, aka Deep, and his endeavors in college. Though it is set in campus, the story is more about Deep's trysts than studies. His three-timing nature (or should I say 4?), the way he manages his girl friends, his success in the non-academic front; these things make up the most of the stories. But how far can luck go? What happens when his girlfriends find out about his reality? Will Deep be able to handle the situation and emerge out unscathed? And will he be able to recognize true love when he finds it?
Things I Liked:
The story doesn't flow in a single direction. It has many faces and thus keeps the reader's interest alive. Our protagonist isn't really a guy that one can fall in love with but there were few aspects about him that does help in maintaining the balance. There are some simple yet valuable lessons you can learn through Deepankar. I liked Deepankar's never give up attitude. Though things go against him, he never stops fighting. His perseverance is something worth appreciating.
Things I Disliked:
The book needs some serious editing! It is sad to see a novel getting negative remarks due to bad editing. The cover design - the blurb is written in black letters on black background. Last few lines can't be deciphered. Too much drama in few places.
Verdict:
A quick read advised for youngsters and those who like reading college stories.
The entire book is about the protagonist Deep’s journey through love, lust and his soul. I wont divulge the scenes and stories of the book as that would take away the surprise elements. Let us now dig a little deeper on the plot and style of writing. Diptendu’s writing style is simple and eloquent, although you might find errors in the printing but it can be corrected with a better set of tight editing. The publisher should have been more careful before sending this book to print. However Diptendu carries the task of telling the story entirely on his shoulders and does a commendable job. Every writer has their own limitations and they are the prisoners of their own writing styles, so does Diptendu. His voice is young, fresh, enjoyable but also naïve at times, Diptendu’s limitation lies in the plot structure. He has weaved a story that seems impossible at times, how can a boy in college go around with 3 girls at a time and never get caught!!!! The narration is from the protagonist’s angle and is much like a boy’s view of the world; the guys would definitely enjoy this book more. The feminine perspective is missing in this book. The question is what you expect when you pick up a book to read, is it Love and romance? College fiascos? Entertainment? Quick laughs? Nostalgia of college days? Then this book is definitely for you. But if you are looking for something literary or serious then this is not your cup of tea. Overall a great effort from a new author, I would like to see him experiment with different genres rather than just love and romance.
The story starts with Deep entering Khandala business School not only to get his MBA degree but in search of true love too. In between his search for his soul-mate he ends up falling in love with 3 girls (Sonali, Priya and Ritika) at the same time. In between his love track, he aspires to become one of the popular boys of his college. Also, apart from these three girls, there is one more girl in Pune that is a mystery to all the three of his girlfriends. Meanwhile, he found a true and best friend in Pooja.
Who is that Pune-mystery-girl?
Will the three girls ever come to know about each other?
Will he ever find his true love?
Will he be able to retain the reputation of a ‘wonder-boy’ in college?
Read this journey of Deep’s college to experience all the answers.
It was a simple and nice story. While reading I felt it was someone’s real story by the writing style of the author. The author very well narrated the story. At the end, the editing and the proof reading of the book was not done properly. The editorial team must take care of it.
