The Platform

When the final war comes…

Isolated in an acid sea that teams and swarms with carnivorous abominations, The Platform stands. As a refuelling station for the warships of Continent One, it is a hostile and bitter place, crewed by old hands and new conscripts; the last posting anyone would wish for, it is a harsh and brutal existence.
But something is very wrong, an ashen laden sky has replaced the stars and all contact with the outside world is lost. As supplies run out, the tension rises, petty rivalries become gaping fractures, and someone has begun a murder spree.

When the final war comes, the descent into bloodshed and depravity becomes a head long fall into chaos.

The Platform is the latest dark piece of fiction from award winning author D G Jones. Much in the brutal style of his MACHINE Trilogy and the Dark Narratives, he weaves a harsh tale of survival and hopelessness. The Platform examines how fast systems break down and how quickly people degenerate when conditions becomes desperate. Seen through the eyes of Gruz, a man as remote and distant as the outpost itself, it is a chilling vision of those left abandoned and forgotten at the end of times…

This book is not only poorly written, but also the overall storyline misses important pieces and the end is like opening a completely new book. I really do not know, why the author would call this a finished book or a story at all.

In general the plot is about the last days of the world die to monstrous creatures taking over and killing everyone. Nice thought, yet within only 43 pages there is no time for anything left. So someone attacks, a fight, people die and life goes on and these events do not even fill an entire page.

As everyone is killed only one remains for the last days and suddenly he starts telling about his much beloved sister and how he had become a monster ever since she killed herself. Missing the connection? - Me too, and I guess there has never been one.
