This simple book is a guide on Scrum framework, as defined in the “Scrum Guide”, from scrum.org. It’s helpful for learning Agile and Scrum, and also for a basic preparation for the PSM I exam (Professional Scrum Master level 1). It can also act as a simple reference for Scrum practitioners.
The information is many times redundant. The manual presents mainly what a Agile Development is and talks very little about what a scrum master does. Besides saying that he or she is supposed to make sure the team follows the agile scrum methodology, the book does not describe actually any techniques or methods the Scrum master should apply in his day to day activities. Or whar kind of soft skills he or she should have in order to do his or her job. After reading this book I got the impression the Scrum Master is useless; if everyone follows 100% the principles of Agile development, then the Scrum Master role is insignificant. Anyway, at least I got a better understanding about how Agile development should actually be in a perfect organisation.
Best place to begin learning Agile. Yet this is also best place to revisit and refresh Agile concepts and fundamentals for professionals. Thanks Nader K. Rad, Ken Schwaber , Jeff Sutherland and Amazon for getting the knowledge out to all.
I thought this was a really good base introduction to Scrum/being a Scrum Master. I wish it had a bit more detail but overall I did enjoy this and found it very helpful in my preparation.
I have re-read this book on Scrum, an Agile development framework, after my role as Scrum Master went up in my professional life. To my surprise, I still think this is the best introductory Scrum book out there. Short and sweet, though dogmatic at times. There should be a chapter that points out that not everything needs "scrum" Scrum and that sometimes a "flavored" Scrum is preferable. Still, this book explains concisely the philosophies of Scrum hence it makes an effective introduction and refresher of the framework. Where other books go deeper into specific techniques, this book clearly and concisely gave me enough information about Scrum to go off on my own, finding the right flavor of Scrum appropriate for my organization.
Nice brief intro into the scrum methodology. Doesn't into depth about things such as typical pitfalls but you shouldn't expect too much. Overall I enjoyed the read
Concise enough to finish it in one go. Gives a very good basic understanding on the subject and appreciation of various roles and terms used in the context.
