Catwoman, The Question, & Huntress. Ok. You've got my attention now.
Helena Bertinelli makes an appearance, as does Victoria Sage. Both are revealed to be former partners of Selina and the now-missing Holly Robinson. Something happened back in the day to split these Calicos up, but it looks like all three might have a common goal once again.
After the events of the first issue, Selina is left with a metal sphere she can't figure out, so she decides to sell it at a black-market auction site and see who makes a bid. Her old frenemies put in an appearance, and the 3 of them have to work together to survive someone else who wants it.
Cool, cool, cool. Let's see what happens next.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Absolute Catwoman #2 continues to build an interesting new take on Selina, but this issue didn’t quite grab me the way some of the other Absolute books have. I like the premise of turning her into a globe-trotting master thief with a deep network of allies, and the mystery is intriguing enough to keep me reading, but I never felt completely invested in the story this time around. Bengal’s art does a lot of the heavy lifting. The action is fluid, the rooftop chases have great energy, and the book has a sleek, stylish look throughout. There are enough intriguing ideas here that I’m curious to see where it goes, but this issue felt more like solid setup than something that really left an impact. A good read overall, just not one that completely clicked with me.
Another familiar face joins the absolute line! And she’s one of my characters-of-interest lately, Helena Bertinelli. What’s even more interesting is this other character introduced alongside her, Victoria Sage. Feels like it’s got to be an intentional riff on the character Vic Sage (The Question) given the context, right?

This one was interesting in terms of experience. The first third of the book, I was thinking "this is my last issue" but by the last third I was "this is fun". What changed? I think it's the cat collective and their whole history and dynamic. Selina in her own is quite dull but with the others there's a bit of a "birds of prey" vibe and I enjoy how they have specialisms.
The art is good. It occasionally reminded me of Bachalo and Buckingham in the sense everyone looks like a cartoon kid/teenager. I'm not totally sold on the action but the rest felt very Bond like in terms of lair design and the "shadows" were interesting.
I think I'll keep reading for now even if it doesn't feel that "absolute" yet.
Overall impression = 4/5 Writing = 4/5 Art = 4/5
Will I read the next issue? yes
Wait for the trade collection? I'd say wait for the trade or the DC unlimited as this is so far separate from regular events in Absolute continuity.
Did I need to read previous issues/series? #1 helps but this is where the cats are properly introduced and there's a Bond villain auction tale presented in full here.
Will I read previous issues I'll probably do so inadvertently in my Ab Bat catch up but I'm really not that interested in Selina.
I LOVE THE CALICOS!! The world starting to be built around Selina is so freaking exciting, all while being bundled with a really high stakes action plot line diving right into the deepest parts of the absolute criminal world. The start of this story takes us back 9 years to a time when Selina was 15 right alongside Holly Robinson as they were starting fresh with a couple of other cool cats in the calico clubhouse to mark the beginning of their new shared heisting history. Selina is paranoid from the start, and more than willing to go at it alone at the slightest slip up from anyone. In the present day we find Selina recuperating after the fight with Cass and the league where Holly was taken and Selina was left with the mysterious orb. She landed herself in an exclusive club of mercs, data brokers, and power players called the wandering rise. They inched every amenity you could wish for, kind of like the continental from John Wick, including a doctor who doesn’t ask questions. Without any idea of who attacked her or what the orb is, Selina decided the best option was to hold the orb out like a lure to try and pull out into the light who is looking for it. So she used her anonymous connections on a high class bidding site to put the orb up for sale and to sell to watch who goes for it. And immediately upon posting it seems she has some fish biting as a mysterious red headed woman is working with some others as she has already tracked it to Switzerland and they are going for it.
So we already know about Holly and Selina, but what about the other two members of the calicos? As cliche as it is, the group ended up falling into their own perfect roles. One of the new recruits is a tough silver spoon who hates everything about the upper class and has all the inside knowledge to get them into where they need to go…like the office of the chairman of the first bank of Gotham. Selina was the sky one who could slip the ID badge off the cleaning lady when she left last. The second new stray was the genius, that could use tech to get them last the defenses. So we have the tough one, the sly one, the smart one, and Holly pulled them all together. There’s the story, but as Selina says…”stories have a beginning. A middle. And an end. And once those points are fixed, it’s a struggle to change them. And the story grows out of control.” The Calicos were actually successful that night, they broke into the office and got into the computer system where they had full access to the bank accounts of the most powerful families in Gotham. We are talking Falcone, Thorne, Elliot, Bertinelli, and Crowne (which is honestly the only one I didn’t recognize immediately) as in a few keystrokes they redirect all the imminent ti Gotham’s charities that need it the most.
In present day Switzerland, Selina is laying nee traps for her plans…which for some reason means going into an ice cave and setting a full bomb as right above that cave in the snowy peaks rests a location known as the auction house. This is where the .0001 percent meet to buy and sell the most valuable items in the world and where Selina is setting the stage for finding out who bites on the orb. The proprietors of the auction house were pleased to inform Selina that someone met her asking price on full, they will oversee the exchange in a private room. Selina stepped in and finally locked eyes with the buyer…and of course the mysterious red head we saw behind a corner is none other than the one red head from Selina’s past, the former calico known as VICTORIA SAGE, the smart one!! HAHAHA, VIC YOU GENDER SWAPPED TABBY CAT!! I LOVE IT!! Let’s rip that face off or put a blank one over it or whatever and it’s perfect! Selina hasn’t see her since the calicos went their separate ways, but as it turns out Victoria was approached by Holly with the orb first and she was quite astonished to see that Selina put it on the auction marker so carelessly. What I find really interesting is that in the flashback sequence when Holly came to Victoria, we can see that Victoria has a fully blown family. She of course turned Holly and her big plots about stealing the orb away, but after she left Victoria started to dig into it more and it seems the true danger of this thing pulled her back into this world. Selina checks her watch timing the bomb below them as it reaches 4 minutes until, they need to leave now…but then another woman comes crashing through the window with a guard in her hand, it’s none other than the last calico, the strong one with a silver spoon, HELENA BERTINELLI!! HAHAHA, HELL YEAH!! WE NEED MORE PURPLE, STAT!
The group slips back into their old calico ways as they back each other up and run for the hills, only to step out and find the entire auction room has been massacred…and Helena didn’t do it, she just heard the shots and went in to help Vic. Selina starts noticing something off about this room other than all the dead bodies…their shadows…they shouldn’t exist! From out of these shadows bodies start to creep their way out, the group is now fighting literal living shadows! Which makes me wonder if the absolute universe is putting a new spin on the “league of shadows” to include technology that allows them to act and move through them. The calicos try their best to fight back, but all seems lost as Cassandra shows up once more and picks up the orb herself. Fortunately Selina decides to lock in, dropping the cloaking on her suit to reveal she has been wearing her tech the entire time! She immediately starts fighting Cassandra, but we they fight Selina can’t help but form a familiar feeling she can’t place. Cass is able to read her movements, forcing Selina to pull any trick she can…like using her tail to wrap Cass up. But Cass doesn’t stay like this for long, using her tail to break free as she knocks Selina back…right as the bomb goes off and the floor caves in to reveal Selina’s perfect escape route. Cass uses it herself and Selina almost went immediately after her…but then she looked back at her crew in need. Selina likes to maintain the mindset that she would leave any of her crew behind given the chance to save herself, but in practice it never works out that way and it’s all because 9 years ago when they left the bank job…Holly refused to leave Selina behind when she was caught by a guard. They are friends after all, and Selina isn’t going to leave them…but she maintains she is only saving them because she needs the backup. Selina uses her tail to pull into the hole both of her friends, getting to the bottom right as the cave system flooded with use water…which Selina was hoping to avoid. As the issue comes to an end and the three calicos warm up next to a fire, Vic is able to fill them in on exactly what the orb is as it turns out it is a key to unlocking the map to find something called the yarn…which is a synthetic intelligence so powerful it can create an “unimpeachable reality.” Hackers thought it was legend, but now as Cass stands in front of someone who looks like Shiva as they use the orb to activate a holographic globe which pinpoints a specific location…it’s clear it’s very real. Woah.

I really did not enjoy this issue. At the moment, there does not seem to be much separating this version of Catwoman from the mainline Selina Kyle. The previous issue showcased a lot of Absolute Catwoman's technology, which made her feel unique and gave the series its own identity. Unfortunately, that aspect is barely present here. Instead, this issue spends most of its time focusing on the other Calicos, introducing them and bringing them back into Selina's orbit. There is a fair amount of action, but I found it surprisingly dull. The dialogue is not terrible, but it goes on for far too long. I caught myself zoning out while reading several times because the pacing just dragged. There are plenty of comics that are so bad they become frustrating to read because you wonder how they made it to print. This is not one of those. Instead, it is frustrating because it is simply boring. That is almost more disappointing. The art is decent, but it never really stood out to me. It may just come down to personal taste, but it did not do much to elevate the issue. I cannot recommend this one. Grade: D
So I guess Selina got super rich by robbing all the richest families of Gotham?! I still would like a clearer origin story but I guess we’re getting that in dribs and drabs. Selina’s commentary on wealth is very interesting, especially with the auction scene here. Priceless artifacts lose all of their significance when you put a price on them. Just like Marx argues, money liquidates all into pure exchange value.

I love Grayson’s voice for Selina, and how seamless she’s able to weave the past and present narratives. I’m happy to finally see the Absolute version of Helena. Also the art is just amazing.
Absolute Catwoman 2: De nuevo encontronazo con Cassandra, y llamativo que Selina diga que ella le resulta familiar. Tengo ganas de saber la razón del interés en esa bola, y de qué le resulta familiar Cass a Selina
Another solid one. Liking the mystery of the Yarn. More Cass! I like that she's the recurring antagonist, but it's clear that she's not actually going to be a bad guy. Future team up material. Helena Berteneli is in this too! Fun line up.
So far so good with this series. Huge fan of the art. Much brighter than Absolute Batman and it works really well with the art style. Curious to see how this ties into Batman if at all. Either way, solid start. I enjoy the pacing and swapping from past to present day to tell Selena’s story.
Ohh our first introduced to Helena and a lady called Victoria sage(I'm guessing this is going be absolute universes version of "the question"🤷) Definitely good but it just felt all over the place
