After a lifetime of doing what’s right, Sloan Abernathy wants nothing more than to sail into the sunset, the love of his life by his side.

But Sloan’s path hasn’t quite led him there. It all started during his freshman year of college, when Sloan promised his dying father to live an honorable life and not waste time with girls who aren’t right for him.

This promise echoes in Sloan’s mind as he navigates love and labor. For a moment he feels all the pieces coming together—when he falls for darling young Abigale. Sloan presents her with a piece of ruby sea glass strung on a necklace from the beach where they first connected upon their engagement, and they begin to plan out their lives together.

Fate has other plans for Sloan, however, and while on military duty in Spain, Sloan makes a single mistake that will shape the rest of his life. Until, perhaps, he can make amends…

A family saga for fans of Nicholas Sparks, The Ruby Sea Glass is a love story, a coming-of-age story, and one man’s wild ride on the rough waves of existence: the ups, the downs, and everything in between.

A Hero’s Journey

The Ruby Sea Glass by R. Juan Harris is a well-told tale about one man reliving his life as he lies in a life raft waiting to either die or be picked up by a passing ship. By honoring promises made to his father on his deathbed, Sloan makes decisions that change the course of his life. The plot takes twists and turns through miscommunications and missed communications. Things are not always as they appear. In the end, Sloan ends up with exactly what he’s said he wanted, but does he get what he needs? Once begun, I could not put this book down without carrying Sloan’s journey with me. I recommend this book to anyone who likes good fiction based on character growth.

The Ruby Sea Glass

I met Me Harris on a dog therapy visit. We both were writers and he told me this was a good read…and he was right!
The story keeps you coming back and has a sound of authenticity that you don’t usually get. You root for Sloan and you’re not let down.
