I'm grateful to the author for providing me with this ebook for free
Opera Cake Murder is the eight book of the Patisserie Mysteries series and it picks up where the last one stopped. Clémence has solved many cases, but in this one, it seems like the police had (most of) the things under control. It was certainly interesting to see this new angle, and I felt for Clémence when she was feeling ashamed. I finally connected with her. She is down-to-earth and modest, so it was a bit surprising when she kept getting all those contract offers.
The plot was cleverly threaded. It is a cozy mystery and is relatively short, so there wasn't much space for closer investigation. I had my guessed on who could be the murderer, but nothing was confirmed until the very end, so I won't pretend I was 100% sure of myself.
All in all, it was great and I'm looking forward to reading more of this series, especially after that ending!
Clemence isn’t always right. This time she actually accuses her suspect of murder in front of the woman’s clients. She had the wrong person and it was a humbling experience for her. Made her a bit more likeable.
