Mer Tales #4

Evermore

Rate this book
The underwater world of Natatoria is enjoying a long awaited period of peace -- and with it, the merpeople's very first chance to visit human civilization. Ash and Fin's wedding marks the perfect opportunity for the mers to celebrate their newfound freedom. But when they return home to Tahoe to prepare, Ash's absence from the human world has raised more than a few questions about where she's been. When blaming fingers point to Ash and Fin as the culprits who burned down Fin's home, even his mindjacking mojo can't stop the authorities from issuing the happy couple an early wedding gift -- a matching pair of arrest warrants.

Instead of bringing their families together, Ash and Fin's upcoming wedding drives a wedge between the very cultures they're trying to bridge. And when their reality takes an unexpected twist, Ash realizes her dual existence comes with a hefty price. Neither her human nor her mer family understand the sacrifices they're asking of her, and as much as she wants to please both her mer and human mothers, she knows she's one misstep away from breaking two maternal hearts. With evil Uncle Alaster taking advantage of things while everyone is distracted, intent on using the old laws to elevate his own bloodline, the sacred rules that once protected the mer secret have left everyone on the brink of exposure. Ash and Fin must scramble to save their families, their societies . . . and their love. The only thing they know for sure is that when it comes to Natatorians, old habits die hard.

And a royal should never get too comfortable.

This is the first of my books that made me cry... like ugly tears. It's sometimes amazes me where the characters lead. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it! And if you want more from these characters, let me know in your review. I'm listening. <3 Thank you, readers! You are the wind under my fingers!

So the wedding was cute and all but the story was pretty bland. Just three stars because of the wedding tbh.

An Epic Adventure You Just Can't Miss!!!

WoW!!! This is one of my absolute favorite series, and this book did not disappoint. Brenda sent me on an emotional roller coaster, and I loved every minute of it. The emotion in her writing is so raw, and real, and the character development is amazing. You would think after what they went through in the first 3 books, this one would have been calmer, but the action was a mile a minute. I love this world, these characters, and certainly hope that this is not the last we see of them. If you read the previous ones, you can't miss this book, and if you didn't, go read book one(Everblue), you'll thank me!!!

I enjoyed this book. There were a lot of twists and turns that I didn't expect.
Debating on the perfect rating because I liked it but it was very fast at times. This series always has a great plot but it is told too fast.
Other than pace I really liked it though.
I'm curious to see if there is going to be another one.

I like completing series. So the fact that I'm three books into this series but haven't rated any except the first one over 2 stars....I know I should have quit

but I just keep thinking things must get better. Or I just want to check this one off as finished.
Either way, this one was no different than the others. Everyone "sneers", no one is nice. Everyone just flies off in a rage, especially Ash. And no one is really anyone's friend. Everyone just looks at friendship as a way to gain footing or power - it's always a bargaining tool. At some point, all the anger and sneering and tempers and backstabbing, it just gets old.

I did like the name Joey. So there is that.

Another book that I kind of pointless. No idea why this was written.
The series ended, they got married. let it end!

the books place over about a week.
Ash is finishing high school. Fin is building them a dream house, and rebuilding his parents home.
Theres some awkward moments with Ashes bio and human mom as far as wedding planning.

We learn ash is , there's someone after her

Creepy guys stalk her, she is kidnapped,

Fin is then captured as well trying to find out who has ash, although she escaped.

Alestr's kid marries a princess and they have a 'baby' -Psych and ash and finn get married. Yay.

While this kind of book is sometimes nice, getting to see what happens after 'the end', in this case it was pointless.

*I was given an ARC for an Honest Review*
**I Totally bought the book also**

Evermore was everything I could hope it would be! I laugh, I cried, and I raged. Brenda Pandos knows the right amount of mixture to give her readers. I hope to see more in the Mer Tales Series.
Have in the past raved about Brenda Pandos writing style, I am one happy readers that she has not lost her touch with her words and draws you in right away.
The Story is everything I could ever wanted for Ash and Fin. It had the characters from the last 3 that we all wanted to see. Even if it was brief. I love How Brenda pick it up like no time had past since the last was out.
Dear Brenda, I will need more Mer Tales please.
I give this 5 fins up

This is my all time favorite series and Pandos again does a phenomenal job of sweeping you into the mer world and holding you captive throughout the entire book. It's an action packed tale with all the love and humor I have come to love from Pandos. I highly recommend this book and can't wait for the next one!

The portal from Natatoria to Lake Tahoe has been reopened and mers frequent it in preparation for their long awaited chance to interact with human society at Ash and Fin's human wedding. This seems to be the mers perfect chance to celebrate their newfound freedom and the time of peace that has finally fallen on the mers of Natatoria. The requirements are that they stayed chaperoned the first few times they visit the human world, they take and complete Tatiana's training class on humans and how to appropriately interact with them or what to expect, and, obviously, that they don't reveal the existence of the mer world. Ash is overwhelmed with everything that she needs to do: finish high school and graduate, get ready for her upcoming nuptials, have her family be okay that she is getting married so young, figure out a plan for the future, sabotage her chances of swimming at the Olympics (talk about disaster waiting to happen), and somehow not break either of her mother's hearts with the wedding planning.
Fin, stuck in a similar predicament as Ash, has a to do list that he can't even keep track of. His number one goal is to keep Ash safe, make her know she is loved, and protect her. But those three things on their own come with a hefty price as he tries to construct a home for the two of them to live in once they get married in-between their parents current homes, keep Ash safe from the white van creep that seems to be randomly appearing here and there, figure out what Ash is struggling so hard with and why her emotions keep taking drastic and unexpected turns, and keep up his guard with anything else that may come from the human or mer world, especially with the pressure on from his twin and her adoptive daughter in making this right for Ash.
Finish the adventure of the mer and human world colliding as old traditions of the mer world are thrown into question, the idea of royalty and power being continuously battled over, the power of the kiss and promise being misused, greed, and the usual deceptions occurring that are so common in politics, regardless of your kind. Good series for young adults, specifically female with marriage, dating, and childbearing.

Over the past four years, Brenda Pandos has entertained readers – both young and old – with her Mer Tales series. Evermore is the latest and hopefully, not the last, installment. Like its predecessors, Evermore is a fast-paced story with copious plot twists and turns which will keep fans guessing until the very end.

The story opens following a very eventful five months for both Ashley Lanski and Finley Helton. Fin has saved Ash’s life, the couple have become promised mates, Ash has become a mermaid, Ash has discovered she was originally born a mermaid, the couple have been part of a coup d’etat in Natatoria, and all this only begins to scratch the surface.

Now, the two are preparing to return home from Natatoria, the aquatic realm beneath the earth’s mantle with a political system worthy of a dozen doctoral dissertations, and reunite with her adoptive parents. If only things were that simple. Ash and Fin will arrive on the shores of Lake Tahoe to find they are in hot water with the authorities, Ash’s parents, and there are still four more weeks of school left before graduation. Throw in the announcement that Ash and Fin are engaged and plan to be married in August and you have the beginnings of a perfect storm.
My heart gushed with happiness as I listened to him defend his love for me, that I was his everything.

Natatorian males have a persuasive way about them and no, this does not mean brass knuckles. They possess the ability to sing their way out of most situations involving humans and Fin is quite capable when it comes to handling things. This is precisely what Ash does not want him to do. She is tired of watching her family enter a zombie-like state whenever Fin warbles their way out of sticky situations.

Ash would prefer to handle things with carefully thought out and honest – well, mostly honest – explanations. This desire is honoured more in the breach than the observance as there are just too many odd things happening and too many sights which should not be seen. This conglomeration is something that simply cannot explained away as their wedding day approaches. Ash fears her human family will wind up with minds of mush before it’s all over.

As if there was not enough drama, Ash discovers she is in the family way and the wedding needs to take place sooner rather than later. The reason for this is because Brenda’s mermaids have a radically foreshortened gestation period. While it is not too unusual for human brides to be carrying something in addition to a bouquet as they walk down the aisle, Ash will be on the cusp of an exponentially expanding baby bump when the wedding takes place three weeks hence.

With the bride’s three month planning schedule contracting into three weeks, additional help is needed to stage this wedding before the bride starts experiencing contractions. Help arrives in the form of Natatorians, most of whom have never been out of their native waters. Most are eager to pitch in while some – like Ash’s biological mother – are simply nosey. There’s plenty to be done – building a honeymoon cottage is high on the list – and before too long, a sense or organized chaos takes hold. Now, if only the hired help would remember how to act and speak like humans.

Brenda’s genius for writing and imagery really comes to the fore at this point in the story and she has expertly crafted action which is readily visible in the mind’s eye. Fantasy writers will often place constraints on their characters to limit what they can or cannot do in various situations. Superman and Kryptonite are one such example. In the case of Brenda’s Natatorians, their Kryptonite is sunset – a time of day when they revert back to their natural fishiness. Throughout the Mer Tales series, the reader has been treated  to scenes of Fin shredding his blue jeans and board shorts because he’s pushed the envelope just a little too much by talking to Ash on the phone longer than he ought to.
“I know we’ve had our issues, but I feel like this wedding has healed us. That by bringing Fin into our family, I finally understand you.”

Evermore sees Ash, the newly minted mermaid, run afoul of the setting sun. Fin has persuaded the Lanski family that Ash needs to go to her room and study every evening and once the door is closed, they are not to disturb her. Meanwhile, Ash will open her window, climb down a conveniently placed trellis, and dash for the lake in those last fleeting moments of daylight.

On one evening, Ash is caught out by a poignant scene with her mother where veils and wedding plans are discussed. Ash makes it to her room in time to close the door but not in time to slink down the trellis and she must spend the night in the bath tub. Of course, her bratty younger sister, Lucy, is no help at all. Such are the dangers of being a mermaid in the world Ms. Pandos has created.

It is against this reviewer’s policy to divulge details of the latter part of any story. The goal, of course, is to give the potential reader a taste of what is to be found within the story in the hope that they will want to buy a copy and learn the rest for themselves.

Rules are meant to be broken – or at least bent a little – and this reviewer will divulge two phrases that describe the action in the Evermore ’s later chapters.

Heart-breaking
Heart-stopping

It’s now upon the reader to find out just what is meant by those phrases – preferably sooner rather than later.

Once again, Brenda Pandos has given us ample proof of her marvelous skills as a spinner of stories. Her memorable characters of Ash and Fin are guaranteed to find their way into the reader’s heart and stay with them for many years to come. It does not matter if the reader is in their Young Adult years or decades past that point, Brenda’s gift of Evermore will be a lasting treasure.

No doubt, many readers – including this reviewer – assumed Evermore was to be a last hurrah; a victory lap of sorts wherein all loose ends would be tied up and the beloved characters of this series would swim off into the sunset. Apparently, this is not the case as Ms. Pandos has asked her followers if they would like to read more about Ash and Fin. If Brenda Pandos can maintain the level of crisp, engaging story-telling demonstrated throughout her Mer Tales series, then the answer is a resounding, unequivocal, “YES!”

In the interest of full disclosure, I was provided an electronic copy of Evermore in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I enjoyed the first three books in the series but this one just didn’t do it for me. There was too much drama and things happens to fast and some issues were resolved too fast. I felt like they were so many storylines at the same time and it was just a bit too confusing. I couldn’t even like the characters even if I liked them in previous books because their reactions were too much and too many things happened to them and technically nothing really happens to them at the end
So the ending was consistent of the rest of the series but the majority of the book didn’t do it for me sadly

If you can overlook the numerous errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation in this YA quadrilogy, the storyline is OK. It's basically a teenage love story between Ash and Fin, with the fantasy element of mer society thrown in.

Of course, Ash turns out to be the long-lost mermaid princess and heir to the throne of Natatoria, and Fin's evil uncle wants to overthrow the ruling family ...

Romeo and Juliet underwater, anyone? Fortunately, the ending is happier than Shakespeare penned it.

Evermore (Mer Tales Book 4)

I want more of Fin and Ash… I can’t get enough of these two and the whole gang…. Loved this series, and I want more… I ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 loved the revival of all the characters. The suspense from about mid way through the end of the book kept me on the edge of my seat, with a wonderful conclusion! Love the promise of a HEA there. And if there's a sequel, I'll be reading that one too. PLEASE WRITE ONE!!! Definitely recommend this series 📚‘ book 📖

Bit disappointed this wasn't an audio book like the rest of the series. Sometimes I missed which POV the chapter and so got confused about whose parents where present or being talked about. The audio book had male and female narrators so this was never an issue. Overall it was consistent with the rest of the series.

More mer!

I truly enjoyed this series. My first met book was a couple months ago and I have been hooked. This was a tale I would like to see go on. Maybe as the merlings grow older attending schools and making friends.
But thank u for a great series.
