The Fixer returns in the pulse-pounding Justice series—perfect for fans of Lisa Gardner, Karin Slaughter, and Jeff Lindsay’s Dexter thrillers—as worlds collide in an inferno of bloodshed, revenge, and holy terror.
I’ll probably never see my daughter again. And if I do, she’ll either be dead or in a jail cell.
Seattle Chief of Detectives Mort Grant cannot reconcile the memories of his vibrant, headstrong young daughter with the cold, deadly woman she has become. The head of one of the largest criminal enterprises in the world, Allie Grant seized power by wrenching it away from her lover, a notorious Russian gangster. How she maintains her control, Mort doesn’t even want to imagine.
Only two other people know the truth about the vigilante known as The Fixer, and Mort’s best friend, Larry, who’s undergoing a crisis of his own. Someone close to Larry, his last real connection to his beloved late wife, has been slain in a mass murder at a sweat lodge deep in the woods of Washington State. When word gets out, Mort immediately takes on the gruesome case.
But as Mort hunts down a pair of methodical killers, The Fixer does some deep digging of her own. And what she unearths will rock Mort’s family forever. Because The Fixer has set her sights on Allie Grant—and nothing will ever be the same again.
T.E. Woods is a clinical psychologist and author living in Bayfield, WI. She is author of two series: The Justice Series (starring Lydia Corriger and Mort Grant) and The Hush Money Series (Starring Sydney Richardson). Her stand alone novel, The Wrong Sister, will be released on February 27, 2018.
Fixed in Fear by T.E. Woods is a 2015 Alibi publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I am so glad I discovered this series. It just keeps getting better and better.
An old friend of Mort’s comes to him for help when his deceased wife’s uncle is murdered, along with several others, and unwittingly discovers long held secrets and crimes in the process. This is a grisly, but compelling mystery that kept me interested in the story all by itself, but of course, there are much bigger issues at hand with the ongoing saga involving Lydia… aka “The Fixer” and Mort’s daughter, Allie.
Once more, Mort is caught in a tight trap where his daughter is concerned and reaches out to Lydia for help. There are no two characters in crime fiction like Lydia and Allie. They are alike, but not, and compete against each other, one on the dark side, and one in light… sort of, and man are these battles epic!! Lydia finds she has her hands full keeping tabs on Allie, but not only that, all the progress she’s made in reigning in her own dark impulses may all be for naught, if Allie makes good on her threats. It's exciting to watch these two match wits. ( I probably shouldn't admit that, but that's just my own dark and twisty side showing.)
This is one of the most unique crime drama’s out there. While I do love Mort, poor guy, it is always Lydia that manages to upstage him. Rich in details and cleverly plotted, this series is smart, very dark, but also humorous at times, and packs an emotional punch amid powerful crime syndicates, psychopaths, family ties, and deep friendships.
I really liked some of the characters introduced in this installment, like Rita, the police chief from a neighboring community. Rita and Mort traded barbs and provided some outstanding banter that lightened the mood and had me hoping Mort might someday see Rita again.
But, Mort’s life remains incredibly conflicted, while he tries to keep his family safe, and copes with his daughter’s ever increasing power and instability, an explosive and dangerous mix, that keeps him in constant turmoil. The irony of loving Lydia like a daughter, makes for one of the most intriguing psychological character studies I’ve encountered.
This installment is as riveting, suspenseful, and shocking as ever, with an emotional mystery, and the building battle of wills between Lydia and Allie, which is far from over.
The suspense is edge of your seat tense, the dialogue is smart, the plots are tightly woven and well written.
If you like crime dramas, psychological thrillers, and dark humor, ala Dexter, you have got to try out this series. I highly recommend you read the books in order in order to grasp the complex character dynamics, but trust me, you are going to love it.
I'm addicted to this series! It's getting better and better. This one finds Mort Grant working a grisly homicide outside of his jurisdiction. It's regarding a fire that was set in sweat lodge deep in the woods of Washington State. The brother in law of one of Mort's closest friends Larry was found in the fire. Larry asks Mort if he would find the killer or killers. This book opens poor larry up to a lot of heartaches who is still grieving the loss of his wife from a murder many years ago. His brother in law that was murdered in this fire was his only link to his dead wife. Meanwhile, Allie, Mort's nasty daughter has returned to wreak havoc in her family's lives. She's insistent on becoming involved in her nieces lives which will not happen unless she pays a high price for some of the crimes she's committed. She's not willing to pay that price. Allie decides to go after Lydia, the fixer who has been in retirement and living quietly working with her patients. Allie has plotted out a nasty little scheme that she thinks will force her dad to bring her back into the family fold, but she needs Lydia to relay this message to him. Her plan and recent actions have hit pretty close to home with Lydia and she's gone a bit too far this time. Lydia finds herself in the perfect position to take this nasty piece of work out of their lives once and for all. We are left with the biggest cliffhanger! I can't believe it. I love the characters of this series, it's a police procedural at it finest but with a lot of mystery to it. You can't help but fall in love with Mort, he's still grieving the death of his wonderful wife from years ago. He finds himself socially awkward around an attractive woman who happens to be the chief of police in the town where the fire was set. He's quite comical in the way he handles himself with that issue and it makes him, even more, loveable. He's a wonderful man who has great friends and a wonderful family. Ms. Woods has really created a winner in this series. It's one that will leave you panting for the next installment. I would like to thank Alibi Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with an e-galley of the book for my honest review.
Oh my this is probably one of the best installments yet in this series as things with Allie are ramping up! What will the fixer do?
Could be a bit spoilery if you haven't read the series but it's the fifth installment so kind of hard not to get around it. Going to try and not spoil things so might be a short review.
So in this one Mort teams up with Chief Rita Willer who is from another county but because the brutal murder involves a frind of Larry's, Mort's friend, he asked to help with the investigation.
In this story we get a lot more information about Helen and Larry. Helen is Larry's deceased wife and the man who was murdered was her Uncle. So we get some backstory about what happened to Helen. It is very surprising!
Meanwhile Allie who is Mort's daughter and criminal mastermind is back in town and wants to see her family. She especially wants access to her twin nieces which her brother forbids. She wants The Fixer, Lydia to intercede and when she refuses things start to get ugly.
The ending lands you on a cliffhanger and I was like OMG....NO...I need the next installment now...lol.
I love the characters in this series and I am pretty invested in them now. Mort is a great cop who let some morals slide a bit when he finds out who the fixer is and well you just have to read the books to see why. His hopes for her is that she will leave her fixer days behind her but some times it's just not possible, though she is trying. Lydia is a broken woman who had a lot of bad things happen to her that turned her into the fixer and it's not something she can just turn off though you can tell she is trying to be a better person.
Allie, oh my goodness I have never wanted to reach in and slap a character so much, she is just awful and I feel bad for Mort as he is a good guy and she is a horrid daughter.
I love all the great secondary characters, Jimmy and his dog. Larry who is Mort's best friend, I just really like them all. :)
Overall this was by far my favorite installment in the series and it's probably because of the Allie/Lydia confrontations and wondering how Lydia is going to deal with Allie. She could just killer her but she is Mort's daughter so that is a sticky situation...lol. If you like crime/detective novels then you should really grab this series up and start with The Fixer!
UGH! I cannot believe this. I'm reading the book on my Ipad, looking down seeing I have 5 more minutes left in the book, not enough time to finish the story, and the author does it. Leaves me on a HUGE cliffhanger. Not that I wouldn't read the next book in the series, because I LOVE this series, but now I'm going to have to wait. I'll say it again, UGH!
While this one didn't have as much action as this series usually does, (that was a little disappointing for me) the author tries a new trend and leaves you hanging. And because I won't spoil it, it's a big hanging point.
As you can tell, I love this series. It was recommended to me by an author friend of mine, and my mouth just salivates every time I see a new book out. It's a great series with great characters, for the most part. Of course, there are the bad ones that you dislike and there is one character that I cannot stand and wish something would happen to her, but then having a very evil villain for the Fixer to watch is what really makes this series. I seriously think the Fixer needs to go back to fixing. She's a female Dexter and makes sure justice gets served! Quit trying to make her reform. HA!!
I seriously recommend this series if you are into powerful, a$$kicking females. This one is one tough cookie I would not want to be on the wrong side of. With her own little complex basement with computers that can get her into database or computer she wants, she's got her own little Batcave an she's one bad a$$ female.
Thanks Random House/Alibi and Net Galley for providing me with this free e-galley in exchange for an honest review. This was definitely entertaining and I can't wait for the next one. Hurry up T. E.!!
Fixed in Fear is the fifth book in the Justice Series by T.E. Woods. Like the previous books before this it can be read as a standalone and it has two main protagonist, Lydia Corriger, a well known psychologist and Mort Grant, detective in the Seattle PD. Fans of the series will know these two quite well and for those just starting out these two will be one of the memorable fictional characters you would read.
In Fixed in Fear, five dead bodies are found in a sweat lodge burned to crisp but not enough to disguise the fact that they've all been slashed with a knife. An unfortunate accident has now become a murder scene. Mort has been called in as a special favor to help with the investigation despite the fact that its out of his jurisdiction. But one of the victim is known to Larry, the uncle of his long deceased wife. Meanwhile, Lydia is trying to keep away from her former life as The Fixer. Like an addict craving for a fix, she couldn't stop herself from at least looking at cases that had caught her attention as The Fixer. She's still good at it but stops herself from the ultimate acts of vengeance (aka killing) because of her promise to Mort and consequences for him if her secret as The Fixer is revealed. But then Allie shows up, beloved daughter of Mort, lost to the criminal world and threatening his family once again. The Fixer is on her but how much can Lydia do if Mort is the ultimate sacrifice in the end. Its damn if she does and double damn if she doesn't.
I have loved this series since I first got a hold of the first book and Lydia Corriger's character is one that will always fascinate me to no end. Fixed in Fear however vears a little from the previous book in such a way that its less action paced and more psychological thriller. A reader knows where the story is headed, we know how Lydia's hands are tied and we know how much of an adversary Allie is. The whole book has two stories ongoing, while Mort is solving a crime, the two women who he considers daughters are having a head to head battle. And we also know where the ending is going to be. I hate cliffhangers! But this book is so well done that you know why it happened and why it ended this way. Fixed in Fear is more battle of moral wits than anything, and I need the next book now.
Just barely 4 stars for the audiobook version narrated by Christina Delaine.
This is probably my least favourite of the books in this series so far. That said, it was still pretty darn good! The Fixer didn't play quite as big of a role in this outing as she has in the others, but the small part she did play was almost all centered on her doing more fixery stuff, so that was awesome! And, as always, Delaine did a magnificent job of bringing the characters to life, each with their own unique voice.
Although the story here was good, there weren't as many twists and turns as in the previous books, and I figured out the big surprise long before it was actually revealed. I didn't really like the set of characters that were introduced in this book, and found it strange that one character played a fairly big role in the first half of the story and then just sort of disappeared into the background with the odd mention now and then.
I'm really disappointed that there is only one book left in the series. I had been planning to hold off reading it for a bit to avoid getting to the end, but this one ended with a cliffhanger, so I don't think I'll be waiting too long before diving into the next.
This has to be the best book so far in the series and I must say each book gets better and better. Mort is working on tracking down some ruthless killers and at same time trying to figure out what happen with his daughter Allie. How can he be Chief of Detectives in Seattle and his daughter be in charge of one the most ruthless criminal organizations in the world? Where did he go wrong, or was she born that way? He also is working on fixing his different relationships while working a case with a police chief from another county that involved his friend Larry. The murders took place in a sweat lodge and this adds to the story. Also having Mort working with someone new and who is another strong female just adds to the story. Chief Rita Willer lets Mort know that this is her case and she is the person in charge. I must say the author does have very strong female characters whether they are good or bad. A very good book and very good characters. I don’t want to get to much into it or I will give away the story, but I am already looking forward to the next book and this book does end with a cliff hanger. I got this book from net galley. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com
When 5 people are found murdered in a sweat lodge it appears that all were killed to cover up the intended target. As Detective Mort Grant is asked to assist the police force to find the murderer of his friend's dead wife's uncle more and more details come to light about this death and the death of his friends wife many years ago. How are the two tied together. Mean while Mort's crime lord daughter comes back on the scene and tries to be a part of her family's life even though she is involved in international crime. The Fixer once again has to try to decide if she can do what is right and live the life Mort has helped her to achieve or go back to a life of crime to protect Mort and his family. Great Read. I would like to thank the publisher and Net Galley for the chance to read this ARC.
This was my least favorite of the series so far but I still enjoyed it. Great Narration by Christina Delaine again! (audible review)
I did miss Lydia quite a bit in this book. She didn't make as many appearances as the previous books. But she was still kicking butt. There are a couple stories going on in this book and I was drawn more too the story line that included Lydia more than the cabin massacre. Oh that Allison Grant.............. wow.
As for the narration, it was amazing as usual. Christina Delaine does a great job with Lydia's voice and Mort's voice. The men sound like men. She is a very good narrator.
I can't wait for the next book in this series to come out!
If you haven't read this series you should. Start at the beginning with The Fixer.
This is book FIVE in T.E. Woods outstanding Justice series, this is one of those series where it is best if you've read all the books prior to this one, otherwise you will more than likely get lost. So if you are interested start at the beginning it is so worth it. As always T.E. Woods delivers a suspenseful and thrilling journey for Mort Grant and The Fixer.
Mort's daughter Allie is back and finally showing her true colors to Mort and the rest of her family. She shows up after killing her abductor and later lover a Russian Crime boss and asserts herself in to his seat of power. Allie wants to be part of her family's life, but with everything she has done in the past she is resorting to blackmail to get them. Allie even tries to blackmail Lydia to helping. Lydia is trying to give up being The Fixer but things keep happening to keep her in the game. Allie thinks she knows Lydia and tries to manipulate her, but Allie doesn't know just how dangerous Lydia can be when backed into a corner.
Mort has once again found himself in the middle of a mystery this one however involves his best friend and an old murder. Larry is Mort's oldest friend he is a renowned author and scholar, Larry's wife was murdered very early in their marriage and it has greatly affected his life. His wife's uncle and Larry grew very close after her passing so when the uncle turns up dead along with four other people Larry specifically asks Mort to help with the investigation. Sheriff Rita Willer is a new character and a very welcome addition to the Justice series, I hope to see more of her in the future. This mystery was very satisfying; I was able to guess the end result but it took nothing away from the entire thing being enthralling.
Overall, this series just keeps getting better and better and I really can't wait for the next one.
"Fixed In Fear" By T. E. Woods comes out on December 8, 2015. I have read every book in the Fixer series and loved them all. I found this one to be the most intense Fixer yet.
Detective Mort Grant can't believe his beautiful daughter has become a deadly criminal. Mort knows she's dangerous but when Allie shows up at his granddaughter's soccer game claiming she misses her family, Mort is confused about what to do. He is desperate to have Allie back in the family fold but he is unsure if she is prepared to give up her former life as a criminal.
On top of the threat that Allie brings into Mort's life, the detective is also working on a brutal murder case. Mort is helping to find the killer of five innocent people participating in a sweat lodge. One of the murder victims is a family member of Mort's best friend, Larry and Mort wants to solve this painful incident quickly so his friend can grieve in peace. The conclusion of the murder will tear Larry's life apart.
This book was a solid five out of five. If found myself holding my breath as I read page after page. I had trouble putting my Kindle down. Over these five Fixer books I've gotten to know the two main characters, The Fixer and Mort Grant. T.E. Woods expertly lets us learn about the deep personal nuances of her characters and because of her excellent writing skills I found myself hurting for the characters. It is unusual for a book to drill deep into my consciousness. This one did. I found myself days later thinking about how I would feel or what I would do if similar things happened to me. That makes this a stellar thriller. Go read this series, you'll not be disappointed.
This thriller finds Mort Grant assisting in a case in Enuneclaw, Washington as a favorite to Larry, a close friend. The case involved the death of 5 people found in a burnt out lodge. Allie has her sights set on her brother's family and is in Seattle. Mort asked the Fixer to look for he so can tell to give herself up and take the punishment for her actions. The story has several twists that keep you turning the pages. This is great series in spite of the violence as there enough other actions to lighten it.
Disclosure: I received a free copy from Alibi through Netgalley for an honest review. I would like to thank them for this opportunity to read and review the book. The opinIons are my own.
Another winner of an installment in the Fixer series. I have read all of them so far and this one continues to show how gifted an author T.E. Woods is. I eagerly wait for new books by only two authors, Stephen King and T.E, Woods. Keep them coming.
Wow oh wow. Ms Woods really stepped up the tension in this story. On pins and needles now awaiting the next book. Fantastic characterization.
Full review to follow.
Ms Woods is evolving in her writing with each addition to this series! Fantastic read!!!
What I liked: I'm going to gush a bit here. From the very first book, The Fixer, to the story in Fixed in Fear, Ms Woods has not only grown in keeping my attention but has me wondering long after finishing a book, what in the world is going to happen next.
When the author added a key character to the mix, she changed up this series from a good suspense novel to an outstanding thriller. I'm looking forward to a head to head meeting between Lydia, The Fixer, and Mort's headstrong, psychopathic daughter, Allie. My gosh, these two women are unbelievably well written. The thing is neither is totally blameless in what's going on around them but it's how they are handling not just their past but how they'll effect their future that completely drew me in. Have I got your attention?
There are usually two stories working side by side in one of Ms Woods' books. A story dealing with Lydia and what exactly is going on with her and a murder mystery starring Mort and his crew. This time it's a bit more personal for Mort as his very best friend, Larry, has asked for his help in solving a brutal murder in a sweat lodge.
Each character in this series has been developed way beyond my expectations. Each book reveals just a bit more to the canvas of each individual. In Fixed in Fear, we learn more about Larry's back story and also get a good dose of Mort's son, Robbie and his family. I have to say the twins, Hayden and Hadley were intriguing. Their personalities did and will play a major factor in the future books of this series, in my opinion.
Ms Woods writes an excellent psychopath in Allie. The first couple of books, I didn't know what to think but at the end of the previous one, Fixed in Blood, I had almost no illusions left about her and her actions. Seeing the different way she is looked at by Mort and then from Lydia's point of view is .... addicting!
What I didn't like: This is not so much what I didn’t like as what I feel some readers might not like. Ms Woods doesn't always spell things out. She leaves some of the information you may want to know to your imagination. For example, some things Larry discovers about his murdered wife, Helen, are just inferred and not actually painted into a picture. The reader needs to use their knowledge from reading the story to fill in any blanks. I enjoyed that, but some readers might not.
I couldn't put this book down. Thanks goodness for the time change as I gained an hour of reading!!!
I received an ARC from NetGalley for a fair and honest review.
Highly Recommended BUT please start at the beginning of this series!!
The Fixer/Mort Grant/Justice series has quickly become a favorite of mine and I do a little happy dance when a new one comes out. Fixed in Fear is the book #5 and you really need to read the first four books in this one. (Yes, I always say that about series books but knowing all of the relationships and background--Mort and Lydia, Mort and his daughter Allie, Allie and Lydia, Mort and his friend Larry are important to the story.)
(Potential SLIGHT spoilers if you have not read any of the previous books in the series.)
In this book, five bodies are found murdered and burned in a sweat lodge in Enumclaw, WA and because one of them is the uncle of Mort's best friend Larry's dead wife, Mort asks to assist in the investigation. Meanwhile, Lydia is struggling to stay more on the straight-and-narrow with her fixer 'powers' and technology, and the evil Allie (Mort's daughter and current Czar of a Russian crime family) is back and wants to see her nieces. In some ways there is not quite as much action as some of the previous books but it is still dark and twisty. There is a major cliff hanger that might frustrate me if author T.E. Woods wasn't a fairly quick writer but I can be patient because I think the next book will be worth it if we get some resolution. (Oh Allie, how annoyingly evil you are!) ;-)
I love all of the grey areas and moral dilemmas of Mort and Lydia and the tightrope that they walk. If you like dark mystery/thrillers, this is a great e-book series.
Note: I received a free ARC of this book from the publisher via Net Galley in return for a fair and honest review. I was not compensated for this review and as always my thoughts and opinions are my own.
When five bodies are found in a sweat lodge, Mort Grant doesn't expect to be involved. The sweat lodge is in Enumclaw, outside of his territory, but when one of the murder victims turns out to be the brother of Larry's dead wife, Mort takes a role in the case.
Mort and Larry have been friends for years. A strong bond formed between them, each understanding how devastating it is to lose a beloved spouse. Now Larry has lost the connection to his dead wife. Forgiveness is a issue for Larry. His wife's killer confessed, but forgiveness is much harder.
Mort's daughter, Allie is back. She wants to be part of the family. Since she runs an international crime cartel, Mort and his son don't want her near the twins. Although Mort still loves his daughter, he can't forgive her for what's she's become.
Lydia plays a supporting role in this novel. Mort asks for her help in locating Allie. She has to agree, although it raises the possibility of returning to her role as the fixer.
This book focuses on Mort and his family. He's involved in a typical police case where they search for clues and witnesses to solve the murders. The case is interesting, but doesn't have the fast action of the other novels in the series.
I enjoyed the book because of the psychological exploration of the problem of forgiveness. What can searching for forgiveness or failing to give it do to a person? The novel illustrates this problem well.
The Fixer – a person who fixes things that need to be fixed, i.e. take justice where the legal system does not provide it – is back. Nobody knows about her identity except for Seattle Chief Detective Mort Grant who has a tricky case to solve in which one of his friends is involved and has to face serious threats to his family – coming from his own daughter who long ago opted for the dark side and is know a czarina looking over an empire making money with drugs, prostitution and murder.
The thrilling novel which intertwines both plots cleverly and provides masses of unexpected twists and turns which keep the reader on a constant watch. Having the protagonists personally involved in the deeds adds another aspects and a lot more tension since they cannot act freely but have to consider more than just the legal aspects. Right and wrong are not black and white anymore, but different shades of the same colour and thus the novel does portray reality as it is.
All in all, a suspenseful thriller with a convincing plot, interesting characters and far from a simple picture of the world.
I haven’t read the previous books in this series, but I don’t think it was necessary either considering I could follow the plot just fine. Five dead bodies are found in a sweat lodge in the woods of Washington State. Mort, our protagonist detective, has been put in charge of the case. Meanwhile, he has to deal with his daughter becoming the leader of one of the largest criminal enterprises in the world, and threatens his family once more.
My favorite part about the book would be The Fixer. I don’t want to spoil things, but think female Dexter and you’re on the right track.
Larry was an interesting character too. He and Mort have been friends for years, and they have an interesting dynamic. My favorite character was Mort, though. He’s not your typical detective, and it was heartbreaking to see him struggle with what happened to his daughter.
This series definitely has a lot of kickass females, but it also has a fast-paced plot that kept me guessing.
Another intriguing novel in The Fixer series featuring Lydia Corriger as the Fixer and Mort Grant, Chief of Homicide in Seattle. Of course the murder starts with a murder, five in fact. Five people are killed in a fire at a seat lodge retreat. Someone close to Larry, Mort's friend, is among those murdered. Hence Mort's involvement in a murder outside his jurisdiction. As Mort works with the local sheriff, a tough lady named Rita, to solve the murder, his beautiful but villianous daughter Allie returns to Seattle. She is now boss of the Russian drug ring whose leader had abducted her. Allie wants access to Mort's granddaughters which he blocks. Lydia is called upon to help him out. As others have mentioned, the novel ends with a cliffhanger leaving us begging for me. But Woods is such a great writer we can forgive her this once for leaving us hanging.
Buy the Fixer and read the entire series. You won't regret it.
This was the first T.E. Woods book I've read. Thanks to Netgalley for the free copy to review, I'm hooked and just purchased the first 3 books of this series.
Once I started this book I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed the family history, intrigue, and dynamics of the characters, but the climax was disappointing. From the action and adventure throughout the book, I was expecting twists and turns and a dramatic ending, to no avail. I won't spoil the book for others, but I was expecting more because of the rest of the story.
Next I'll read the first 3 in the series and my opinion may change when I have a broader perspective.
I received an ARC from the publisher, Random House Publishing Group-Alibi and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
"Fixed in Fear" book #5 in the series does not disappoint. You have another brilliantly written mystery that keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering which direction the author will take the story. I just love the characters of Mort and Lydia, the Detective and the almost reformed killer for hire, who form an unusual friendship.
I can't wait to see what happens in Book #6. Book 5 ended with a great cliff hanger.
For all you mystery readers out there, this is definitely a series to add to your TBR list if you don't already have it there.
My View: Here I was thinking this is the end of The Fixer, that the Justice Novels were winding down, no place left to go …no options left…The Fixer retired and then I discovered the second narrative in this crime novel – Allie’s story (no spoilers here) and I knew this was going to get messy. Next thing I know I have turned the last page and… to my utter surprise, no more story, no more words! What happens next T E Woods- I did not see the last page coming! I did not expect the book to end on such a huge cliff hanger.
How long before the next instalment?? You are not playing fair T E Woods :)
I love this series and anytime I see new ones pop up on NetGalley I'm making a request :)
This one was different in tone. I expected many events to occur and they really didn't pan out, specifically the storyline dealing with Allie. I am VERY tired of her. I want to Fixer to just off her. Even if it would break Mort's heart...or better yet, have Mort do it!
Thankfully we were left on a cliffhanger and you KNOW there will be resolution with this.
The story dealing with Larry was intriguing and definitely didn't end the way I expected. Fabulous use of dribbled clues and tension.
The action and suspense continues as new events stress old relationships. All the continuing characters are there, including Mort's daughter, Allie, playing a larger role. The characters remain consistent as Mort's buddy, Larry, triggers a new murder investigation with his request for help. The writing is crisp and colorful. Surprises lurk around every corner. The ending is satisfying, but leaves another cliffhanger. I enjoy the "Fixer" series and can't wait for the next. The level of quality remains consistently high.
(2 1/2) I had high hopes as this book started with such a bang. I have read a couple of the others in this series and they have been pretty decent. Lydia and Mort are both compelling characters and they do not disappoint here, but one of the side scenarios is ridiculously far fetched and the ending is a mere whimper. I will stay with the series for one more entry but unless it elevates it will be my last.
Great Book! Two exciting cases going on at the same time. First Mort is helping his good friend find the killer of his wife's uncle. Lydia at the same time is trying to stop Allie, Mort's criminal daughter, from destroying the rest of his family. So much drama and so much excitement. What a great series!
Another story about Mort, Allie and Lydia. The characters in these stories are so good and the plot is complex keeping interest high the whole way through. What a surprise the conclusion was, I was on the edge of my seat. Excellent read.
I've really enjoyed this series but was upset how this book ended. Come on. To leave it hanging like this is just so obviously meant to get me to buy the next in the series. If a book is good enough, I'll buy the next one without this kind of cliffhanger.
Love this and so irked that Lydia did not take care of Allie!!! And of course there is a cliffhanger! sheesh.... this drives me nuts, when will the next book be out? hehehehe
