No reason to

No reason to buy this. Nothing insightful. It was like reading cliff notes for a book I've already read. I was expecting new info about the character and instead it was like reading a book report.

I can’t imagine someone reading David Baldacci’s novels and not falling in love instantaneously. He masters the thriller genre like few others, so when there is a new release, you can expect a work of consistent quality. In this sense, this sidekick is not recommended for those deciding on whether they should read Baldacci’s new novel, “Memory Man”, but for those who are reading or have finished reading the original work.
Memory Man is one of Baldacci’s most character centered novels. Amos Decker is a captivating man that loses his family tragically in the hands of a murderer. Suffering from hyperthymesia (over-developed autobiographical memory), his grief never lessens, and his appearance becomes an external manifestation of his inner conflicts. Forced to revive the most traumatic experience of his life every day, he becomes bitter and struggles to hold a casual conversation. As expected, such a developed, complex and deep character is composed of a multiple-layered Self. Anna Call’s sidekick to Memory Man unravels the complexity of Amos Decker personality and neurodiversity after the tragic murder of his family.
There are analyses of other characters too, such as Belinda Wyatt and Sebastian Leopold, and even though they are not as interesting as the protagonist, it’s worth knowing more about them, especially his nemesis (I won’t mention the name to avoid spoiling the plot for prospective readers).
Overall, I recommend this sidekick to those interested on enjoying the new series by Baldacci’s at its fullest. Amos Decker is a wonderful character, and we will most likely see the series adapted to the big screen and/or TV in the near future. 5/5 stars!

This is like cliff notes. It was interesting and informative. Let me get a bit more out the novel with these notes.

However not really me and I probably wont buy something similar again.

MEMORY MAN (#1; Amos Decker, NEW series) - by David Baldacci

4.5/5 *s - Doc Aloha Reviews 4/26/2015

Amos Decker, the main character in this interesting , action-packed new series by Baldacci, is not a typical member of law enforcement. Decker has a unique skill, the result of an almost fatal tackle on his first and only play of his very brief NFL career. Memory processing (and other) areas of his brain were damaged beyond repair, resulting in an incredibly rare condition: Amos remembers EVERYTHING. In solving crimes and apprehending criminals, this skill is a formidable weapon. In his personal life, however, it results in mental torture.

In DECKER, Baldacci has created a truly unique character, one I found likeable and with many possibilities for development as this new series is introduced. The action and overall pacing was tight and just right. I didn't find any loose ends, and the story flowed such that had I had the time, I would have consumed this in one "meal".

I'm eagerly awaiting the next book, wondering where Baldacci decides to take Decker, as the options are practically limitless. In a genre that has many memorable protagonists and talented authors, I believe Decker combined with Baldacci's talent for writing gripping thrillers will be a winning combination. For fans of thrillers who seek something a bit different in the typical thriller hero, pick up a copy of MEMORY MAN. It's the literary equivalent of driving a muscle car, pedal ALMOST to the metal, down the highway; top down with the wind blowing through my hair. (Perhaps in #2, I'll find myself on the Autobahn, shades on, and tunes cranked as well? I see great potential!) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Interesting.

You analyze the book in ways I never could, even back in my under graduate lit classes. I already bought the book and read it, but your article is still interesting.

Love the main character. The plot was slightly predictable, but really well done.

Hopelessly slow. I'm listening at 1.4x and it's still slow. I can hardly wait to be done...I hope it's worth it.
