We begin with Quincey begging Johnni to marry him while they are preparing for high school commencement. But why? 👀 You could tell that they were close friends and cared for each other. However, not enough to get married. So, why the rush? Hmmm….. 😮
Life has moved on for Johnni, and while Quincey has held up his end of the bargain while taking care of her physically and financially, the love that she craves is absent. Quincey is selfish. All he can think about is his political aspirations and is only catering to Johnni because he needs her to get what he wants. 🤬 What is he holding over her head? It is obvious that she is over this marriage and wants out, but she is tethered to him due to a secret. What is it girl? 🤯
The pieces began coming together when we learn that they have an “open” marriage. Is that right? They both frequent a club called Seventh Heaven to “play” no questions or consequences, as it has been agreed upon. Johnni goes to the club one night, and encounters Courtland. Immediately smitten by his looks, the way he moves, and how he can assert dominance over her without batting an eye. Ahhhhh hell!! 🤣
Courtland is fighting his own demons in life, however, when he meets Lourde, things look up. He is feeling her and makes it his mission to make her his, husband or not. Courtland was ready to play the long game to get his woman, and losing was not an option. It was amusing all the things these two were able to do under the supposed watchful eye of Quincey. 🤣 Enjoyed this. 👍🏾👍🏾
Imagine being best friends. Not really having family, and being so close people thought you all were a couple so you guys became one. Or did you? Fast forward, y’all are married and have been for so long. Life is great. Or is it? Your husband is in politics and you are a pageant girlie. It should be all smiles and glamour.
To the world you are a happy loving couple. I mean y’all had a deal, it’s only right hubby upholds to it. Except something changed. Pictures are appearing in places they shouldn’t. Seventh Heaven is Switzerland until it isn’t. Things done in the dark are coming to light and then there’s Tunk. Baby, Johnni wasn’t ready. He came in like a wrecking ball and a savior all in one.
She wasn’t suppose to want him. He wasn’t suppose to want her. She’s married. She’s off limits. Or is she? Everything done in the dark eventually comes to light. Sometimes pictures lie and everything isn’t what they appear to be.
This was the perfect title for this book. Johnni and Quincey presented a perfect picture but that picture had so many hidden cracks from the secrets that they held it was crazy. I couldn’t imagine being in Johnny’s position and have to hold onto so many secrets and being reminded of your place as a trophy wife at every turn from the man who was supposed to also be your best friend all because it benefited the perfect image he wanted the public to see. I was excited when Johnni and Courtland’s paths crossed because she deserved all the love and worship that he had for her. Being with Courtland showed Johnni she didn’t have to remain in a loveless marriage contract and that she could find a way out especially once the threat of Quincey’s secrets being exposed began.
This story had me locked it from beginning to end. It was messy with a capital M and I enjoyed every page. This story does discuss infidelity for much of the book, but it’s not as cut and dry as it seems so that part didn’t really bother me with learning the dynamic of Quincey and Johnni’s marriage. Like any good movie, this book had me talking back to the characters when questionable decisions and actions were made and had me side eyeing them at other parts as well. I loved the way Courtland was all about Johnni and loving her and making sure she felt his love and knew she was wanted and protected and that he was determined for them to be together.
Mama Steph had me wondering if she was in the dark on the bs around her with her son and husband or if she just turned a blind eye to everything or if she knew everything and was just a good actress when all them secrets came out. The conflict in this story is pretty clear and once those secrets were revealed, the conflict was resolved pretty quickly and without any dramatics which allowed for Johnni and Courtland to finally be able to love each other out loud and get their happily ever after.
From I saw the cover of this book I was curious about it and I had to read it.
I was busy the past few days so I couldn't get to fully lock in but once I did I couldn't stop reading.
Johnni is married and had to be a dutiful life to her husband and best friend Quincy. Their life is what you would call picture perfect but what happens when the cameras stop flashing?
Johnnie and Quincy have an open marriage that allows them to indulge in their guilty pleasures and that is where Johnni meets Courtland. From the first moment these two met their was chemistry there and it just blossomed since that first meeting.
Courtland didn't play about Johnni and made it known that she was his regardless of whatever she had going on and not everything that glitters is gold because there were secrets hidden in the depths of her marriage and the life she lived for 10 years.
When pretending becomes tiresome and things keeps happening to reveal more of what Johnni already know she couldn't do amything but follow her heart and Courtland was right there ready to be everything she needed and more.
As a forbidden romance girl this book definitely gave me that vibe and so much more. Courtland Tunk Floyd is definitely my new book bae 😍
Great book. Whew pictures can be so deceiving. Johnni had to to give up so much at such a early age. Im glad Ma Stephanie was in her corner and treated her like a daughter. Quincey had it all until he didn't. Trophy wife, open marriage and career. Just messed with the wrong person. Cortland never thought he would come across the woman he was mesmerized with from Seventh Heaven. But when opportunity presented itself it was a wrap. He had to have her. Johnni finally found her peace and happiness. Chief was it for her.
Suspense and tom foolery. Courtland “Chief” played no games when it came to Josie. Quincey and his daddy were downright wrong with their thinking, all bc they wanted to keep up appearances… seriously!? Just be who you are.
Johnni signed a horrible deal and then takes one look at Cortland and said f that deal! Cortland went hard behind her! The ending suprised me great book!
