Traditional Love #2

Traditional Terms

Rate this book
She can submit to the man. But can she submit to the love?

Being an erotica author, Coley could turn words into a lusty scene in seconds. She could write about sex but was finding it difficult to write about love. She just couldn't find the hero for her book... or in real life, for that matter. She needed to find the passion to write again. She needed to find passion– period.

With one kiss, Coley discovers that a long time friend may be the man she had always been looking for. Vance was strong, sexy, loving and extremely alpha. Coley also knew he lived a lifestyle of Domestic Discipline. He loved, he led, and he spanked his women.

Had she found her real life hero? Could Coley surrender to his love? Was it possible to submit to his Traditional Terms?

Alta Hensley is a NYT & USA Today bestselling author of dark romance where the villain always gets the happily ever after.

Twisted, clever, and occasionally unhinged, her books deliver morally gray anti-heroes, sharp-tongued heroines, and happily ever afters that taste even sweeter after a little ruin. With a signature blend of grit, wit, and heat, Alta’s stories prove one thing: Villains deserve love too.

Alta lives on the foggy coast of Oregon with her husband, two daughters, and a pair of dogs who think they’re in charge. When she’s not writing redemption for the irredeemable, she’s walking the coastline or sipping craft beer in eccentric little bars that feel like they belong in her books.

A follow up to the first in this Domestic Discipline series, Coley, Caine's little sister is on the rampage. She's the wild child who happens to be an erotic writer with no sex life. This is a sad state for an erotic author. She wants a man but she doesn't treat them well. She wants a man who is man enough to stand up to her but not an asshole. She isn't asking for much, is she? She's never considered her brother's friends because they are all into the lifestyle. She doesn't want to be spanked. Well, what naughty girl likes punishment spankings?

In an unsurprising twist, Coley hooks up with Vance, her brother's friend. Of course, he's into DD, at least second generation DD if not third. (Things to ponder if future in-laws are into DD!) This story's DD is rather light. Ms. Hensley mixes in Christian beliefs to further explain the DD lifestyle. For the initiated, it could be a bit preachy. For those like me, who has a husband that believes in this (but doesn't spank!) it's pretty spot on. What I find interesting in this story is how it's told that the first year or so is a rough time for the couple as they test each other's limits. I'd have to say in my first year of marriage, this was the case. And then one day, the power struggle was gone. It's a much more harmonious married life. So I can definitely see the merits.

As for the characters, I found Coley to be a bit too immature at times. Her defiance and lie to Vance about a bloody laptop was odd. What's the point? Vance seemed to use a bit flowery and unrealistic dialog from a man. I can imagine women would want to hear men profess all these sweet nothings; I just can't imagine a guy coming up with these himself. My recommendation, less meterosexual dialog because it undercuts the alpha masculinity of these DD men. I also found Sara to be a rather annoying secondary character. Why is she still around? She is a shallow, stupid spanking slut. I've yet to see a redeeming quality about her. I can't understand why so many of these men in the circle fuck her. She is the token mascot? Everyone has to do her in order to be initiated into this DD club of men? It makes me think less of these men. The fact that all of them seem to have fucked her, even just a week makes me think the men have very poor judgment. And would I really want a man to be head of household if they would make such a big mistake? It also makes me think Travis, another secondary character, is an idiot because he still keeps her. Disappointing as it shows how shallow the men are by picking her for her looks and how easily she leaps across their lap for some spanking sex.

This short story is recommended to Domestic Discipline lovers who enjoy a bit of anal and spanking treat.

This novella was so good! I love how Traditional Terms picks up partway through Traditional Love, so we get to see what went on behind the scenes with Coley and Vance…and boy was it hot! Coley’s not a stranger to the idea of Domestic Discipline, but at first she doesn’t think she could submit to a man that way. She struggles with this, along with her fear of being hurt in a relationship, throughout the book. She also has a hard time expressing her feelings, and this leads to some misunderstandings between her and Vance. Fortunately, they work through their problems (after a lot of pining) and this erotic romance novella has a perfect happy ending. Now, I’m sure a reviewer will come along eventually and say that this book was “too preachy” or “reads like a handbook” for DD relationships, and I’m going to speak up and disagree in advance. I don’t think this book would make as much sense if it weren’t for the explanations about this topic, and I felt like reading about Coley and Vance’s feelings about DD really made them come alive as characters. If you like some spanking (and hot sex and extremely hot anal play) with your romance, I definitely recommend giving this one a try.

Because I write domestic discipline fiction, I also like to read it, and when I stumbled across this book I immediately bought it. Coley is a modern woman who is aware her brother and his friends practice domestic discipline. While she defends it in theory, she’s just not sure she can accept the hard reality of it for herself. But of course she falls in love with Vance, her brother’s friend, and he’s adamant that he and domestic discipline are a package deal. Take the man, take the spanking. Though she has reservations, Coley agrees to give his terms a try. What I especially enjoyed about this book was Coley’s initial reluctance and then gradual acceptance of DD. I find that it makes for a more seductive story when the heroine is coaxed into the lifestyle rather than jumping in wholeheartedly at the beginning. Traditional Terms combines the characteristics of both erotic romance and domestic discipline – hot sex and spanking. It was a fun, quick, sexy read.

While I understand the DD lifestyle, there seems to be a lot of secrets or issues that should be worked out that seem to slide under the rug. Trust should be open and communication as well. When Vance's mom stated that she had been punished for things that she didnt agree with, that's just wrong, so she has no opinion since she isn't head of the household?? No it should be made right between them as well, whether it is before or after it should still warrant a discussion.

Please note that this book has Domestic Discipline that some may find uncomfortable. Alta Hensley did a great job of explaining what type of BDSM relationship this is in the story, and InfoWars is into conversation between the two main characters. I love how there's also a glimpse of Caine and Neely.

Please note that I did receive an ARC of this book, and the opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Coley is a writer with writer's block and she can't get past writing about love until she finds what she is looking for in her long-time friend Vance. He is an alpha male that is into domestic discipline and she finds what she need with his Traditional Terms for their developing relationship. The story is a consensual developing relationship between two adults and contains sexual content.

I understand it, but not liking the plot that much. (Sorryyyy)

I just dont quite understand where Sara must need to be involved this much.. I like slight drama but not this kind. And how Coley and Vance get back together.. is like so easy.. just a few conversation with friends and thats it. Feels like Vance is not trying his best to get her back.

Coley knows what Domestic Discipline is because it’s the lifestyle her brother and fiance live daily but she doesn’t think she could ever submit to a spanking and do it seriously. She is just way to headstrong, way too in control of herself to ever hand over the reigns to a man. Coley is lonely though and yearns for the love and stability of a man. When her brothers best friend, Vance shows some interest in her, Coley decides to give this spanking thing a try. She may not be able to be what Vance needs, but she’s willing to give it a shot. Little does she know that along with allowing herself to be spanked, she’s also allowing her heart to love.

Alta Hensely is an author I have just discovered recently and I must say, I am glad that I did! Traditional Terms is a novella length jewel in the erotic romance genre that kept me interested in this lifestyle of Domestic Discipline that I had never heard of before. Sure I’ve heard of spanking used in the bedroom, I’m no prude and you can find that scenario throughout many erotic romances…even some contemporary romances. However, I had never heard of Domestic Discipline. The act of spanking or the use of threatening punishment in the bedroom while you are in public. Of course these “punishments” may be uncomfortable at first but will end in you begging for more. To be spanked harder. To use other props in the submission process.

I found that myself and Coley were a lot alike. She is completely headstrong and the thought of being spanked or controlled by any man in public turned her off. Yet in a strange way, turned her on too. Sure, she understood it but she didn’t necessarily want to live it either. Vance is a dominant man and even though she is willing to give his lifestyle a try she isn’t sure she can ever fully submit to him. Coley doesn’t want to be humiliated in public and told what she can or can’t say. I totally understood her balking at the control idea. I would feel the same way. Yet it’s the thrilling aspect that giving up the control gives me that I think Coley felt too. The sensual aspect that if Coley acts out Vance is sure to punish her behavior later. Which is, of course, what Coley does. It’s the excitement factor. She pushes his boundaries and tests her limits. Subconsciously knowing that if he let’s her off the hook that she will lose all respect for his lifestyle but at the same time dreading the punishment sure to follow her behavior.

I found the entire thing HOT! The push and pull of Coley and Vance was spot on and made me feel invested in their budding relationship as well as excited by it. I have not read the first book in the series, Traditional Love, but the characters of Caine and Neely play central characters again in this one. Along with the incredible BITCH, Sara, who apparently lives to start trouble and cause chaos. I wanted to jump into the book and pimp slap her with the back of my hand and then smash her face into the nearest wall. Yea, she affected me that much, lol. I kept muttering under my breath nasty things I wanted to say to the conniving trouble maker.

I am now totally in the, I *heart* Alta Hensely fan club! If you like erotic romance heavy on the dominance and don’t mind a bit of public displays and the threat for spankings, then you will love Traditional Terms! Full of sexy situations that are sure to set your pulse pounding then calm you down with the slow precision in which Vance works Coley and teaches her about love.

I give Traditional Terms by Alta Hensley 4.50 stars!

FINDING THE HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER ENDING
This story picks up with people from Traditional Love, with this story being about Coley and Vance. Coley is sister to Caine who just married her best friend Neely. Coley is an author of erotica, but lately she just has lost her muse. When is she going to have her chance at true love. Caine's friend and co-worker, Vance, has feelings for Coley, but treads lightly, after all, she is his friends baby sister. Vance and Coley sit and really talk, he believes in domestic discipline and not willing to give it up, but is Coley able to accept his DD lifestyle and allow Vance to be her head of household and to submit. Trouble is brewing with Sara, that girl isn't happy unless she has a stick stirring the pot. I loved the continuation of this story, the characters, the witty dialogue, cat fights, men who are alpha, dominant, strong, opinionated, stubborn and damn sexy! The sex and spanking is steamy hot and this erotic writer has met her match!

I liked it, but did not like it as much as book #1, Traditional Love . This book explores a potential DD relationship between Coley (BFF to Neely, sister to Caine) and Vance (BFF to Caine). From Traditional Love , there was attraction between Coley and Vance. While Coley understands and agrees, to some degree, with the domestic discipline lifestyle, she does not think it's something she could sign up for in order to be with Vance. Eventually they work through this and try to give a dd relationship a try.

For me, there was not much that took place in the book. I enjoyed the gin and tonic chat between Coley and Vance's mother. I really liked that some of the scenes in Traditional Love were repeated. However, they covered the pieces that happened between Vance and Coley, that were not covered. It was like listening to this couple from the sidelines. Very cleaver and creative concept in writing! Overall, it was a quick and enjoyable read!

Why Not 5 Stars?

I did not feel the love connection or romance between Vance and Coley. Things just seemed overly rushed to me. While I understand that this is a short book, I was not invested in their relationship. They did not...fit to me.

Vance did not come off like a DD type of guy. I would not label him a alpha-male who lived a dd lifestyle. I was not expecting another Caine, but I was expecting a little more dominance from Vance. I really thought that Coley was the alpha in the relationship.

The final drama was not exciting. As with the majority of relationship stories, there's the same predictable drama with a This was not creative.

Sara + Vance, Sara + Caine, Sara + Travis = Yuck, Nasty!

Alta Hensley’s follow up novel to “Traditional Love” is not entirely what I expected - in a good way. Many sequels and trilogies that use the same characters tend to be predictable replications of the first book in the series. Alta did a very good job with of staying in the spanking novel genre with the same characters, but with a fresh perspective in “Traditional Terms.”

Coley is the little sister of Caine, the male protagonist in the “Traditional Love.” She grew up surrounded by domestic discipline, but has never practiced it herself or believed she would be able to embrace it. The inner struggle she has with DD must be dealt with, however, when she falls for Caine’s best friend, Vance. Vance is a strong believer in domestic discipline and pleads with Coley to accept it into their lives. When Coley finally agrees, Vance introduces her to the lifestyle with punishments that focus on submission rather than spanking:

My biggest critism of “Traditional Terms” is that there just weren’t too many actual spanking scenes. They discussed spanking throughout the book, but there were very few discipline based spanking scenes to speak of. “Traditional Terms” was chock full of punishments that were alternatives to spanking and sexual spanking scenes, however. Alta certainly introduces a few uncommon methods of discipline that certainly elicit submission.

All in all, I think Alta Hensley did a great job with “Traditional Terms.” If you want to escape into a world where DD is discussed openly and practiced by many and you want to explore various alternatives to spanking, then go no further – “Traditional Terms” is the book for you.

Coley is no stranger to Domestic Discipline. Her brother, married to her best friend, Neely (whom we met in the prequel, Traditional Love) practices the lifestyle, as do all his friends. Along comes one friend, Vance, and the sparks fly. Vance explains that he's no nonsense and that he spanks his ladies. Package deal. Love Vance, accept the spankings.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked it better than the prequel, Traditional Love, I think, because I liked Coley's reticence about the whole idea, which to me was more real. It is hard, if downright impossible, IMO, to come to a DD situation happily jettisoning ourselves over a man's lap to be spanked. While we may come to realize we need it, and in some cases even WANT it, there is reticence involved, and I think the author showed that in a very realistic way.

I liked them both as people, too. I liked that Vance was strong and controlling in some ways, while still allowing Coley to be Coley. The one scene toward the end when Coley has had enough of one particular character and blows her top, was amazing. I actually stood and cheered. Vance let her have at it, and it showed the understanding and respect he has for her.

The sex was hot, too. Terrific erotic romance that will have you breathing hard and cheering them on.

Can't wait to see what's next from Alta Hensley!

From Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton in 1848, in the Declaration of Sentiments until present day, there has been a fight in balance of power between men and women. Women's right to vote and to own property; rights and sexual freedoms to express preferences. Like many other aspects of life, there is a pendulum with particular dynamics and beliefs. Independence, control, balance, and parameters are concepts in the developing relatationship between Coley and Vance in Alta Hensley's Traditional Terms. Can Coley let go, trust Vance to be fair in judgment and the use of domestic discipline? How will Vance respond to Coley's insecurities? Traditional Terms is truly a bedtime story for the romantic (plus a little extra) at heart. I wonder...with all the female independence in today's world, is there a societal shift in the need for male dominence?

This book drove me nuts! From the poor editing: "He kneeled on his knees." to the outlandish bosom buster type talk during sex. I don't know what happened, but Alta Hensley is SO much better than this book. I've read nearly all her books and this almost seems to be written by someone else. Also, Vance's mother saying women have it easy in a DD relationship? Really? I think both parties have a challenging time, not just the men.

Thks book was a predictable, disappointing read.

I loved book one, I love book two and can not wait for book three!! Coley has known Vance for years, one day their friendship takes a turn for the better. If Coley could get out of her own way there is a great future on the horizon. Great read!

Really enjoyed this

I love that I can read a DD book that doesn't sound fake. There are times that spanking is not the only way to get your point across. I enjoy a good DD story and this series is one. Thanks for the short read. Nice evening read.

A light read that I found sexy and enjoyable. Probably would have enjoyed a longer story and a little more conflict between the main characters but I really liked it.
