(All of the above companies are dead and gone except, of course, for Harlequin. I didn't kill them. It was suicide.)
I went over the wall again and worked a few miracles in the field of alternative medicine. Then "they sentenced me to 20 years of boredom, for trying to change the system from within." (Identify that quote and we are inextricably, irrevocably friends.)

⭐️⭐️⭐️½ — 3.5 Stars ARC REVIEW thank you to Booksirens and the author.
This one is a little hard for me to rate because I actually really liked the premise behind it. The idea is good, it's well thought out, and there are some genuinely interesting psychological thriller elements here.
Where I struggled was with the execution and pacing.
There is a lot of information throughout the book, and at times it felt like more than the story really needed. There were sections that felt drawn out or like they could have been tightened up without losing anything important. I caught myself skimming through some of those parts because I wanted to get back to the actual story.
And that's really what kept this from being a higher rating for me. I never found that one thing that completely grabbed my attention and wouldn't let go. Instead of being glued to the book, I found myself drifting away from it and having to pull myself back in.
That being said, this isn't a bad book at all. The premise is strong, the psychological aspect is well thought out, and I can absolutely see this working better for someone who enjoys a slower, more detailed thriller. For me personally, I just needed it to be a little tighter and faster paced.

What made this a solid read:
The Psychological Edge: I loved the premise of Dr. Simon Fethullah. A forensic psychiatrist who used his mind as a weapon, only for it to become his torment, makes for a complex and vulnerable lead character.
Atmospheric Tension: The shift from the intensity of his FBI work to the remote, wild landscape of Montana creates a great sense of contrast. You feel the "peace" Simon is trying to find, which makes it all the more jarring when the threats begin to arrive.
The "Uncaged" Threat: The idea that the Rainy Day Cannibal has a loyal following capable of striking from behind prison walls is terrifying. It turns the story into a high-stakes cat-and-mouse game where the cage means nothing.
The Stakes: The inclusion of Simon’s wife, Carla, and their dog, Stefano, adds a layer of emotional vulnerability that kept me on edge. You aren't just worried about Simon; you're worried about everyone he loves.
Why 4 stars:
The pacing is excellent and the villainous presence is felt throughout the entire book. It is a dark, adrenaline-filled journey that kept me hooked from the first postcard to the final confrontation. It’s a very strong addition to the genre.
Verdict: If you enjoy thrillers that explore the fractured mind of a forensic expert and the relentless nature of a serial killer’s vengeance, this is a must-read. It’s chilling, suspenseful, and perfectly executed. 🌟🔪

Is anyone really safe, even when they are at home??
This made me think of Joe Carroll in the show The Following and I was here for it.
Then it made me think of Benton Wesley in the Scarpetta series and to an extent, Clarice Starling.
I do love FBI based and forensic type books so this was right up my alley, although it did drag at times for me, felt mildly repetitive at times and these things distracted me slightly from the action as it was happening.
Lots going on in this book, no doubt. I'm curious about the upcoming books as well.

I enjoyed reading this suspenseful story. This is a new author for me in which I not only enjoyed their writing skills but their attention to details. I enjoyed how the details brought the twist and turns to life. This is a story about Simon and how he testified against a serial killer but he got a bullet for the trouble. When he decides to take his family and get away from it all. But when the President’s Press Secretary is killed things start to unravel. Simon knows that the serial killer has a loyal following and they are coming for blood. I enjoyed the characters in this story and what they added to the entertainment value. I found them to be connectable and engaging. They had me wanting to know more about what would happen to them next. I also enjoyed watching the growth of the story which made it easy to want to read. This is a fast paced, engaging story that is hard to put down. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future. I highly recommend this story.

Where the Night Takes Us is a must read! The story flows so well and characters are nicely developed. And the story is GOOD! It is one of those wonderful books where the reader is totally immersed in the story, unaware of their surroundings, going right along beside the characters and almost smelling the fresh brewed coffee in the story. Every part was plausible. It takes the reader through a full range of emotions which a couple of times provoked me to put the book down and digest what I’d read. The length was just right. Shorter would have cut out important facets of the book and it did not to be any longer.
I liked that the book was easy to jump right back in and lose myself in again. A couple of parts I read too fast because I wanted to find out what happened but then had to go back because I’d missed something that came up later in the story.
This five star book is a good stand alone book but the moment I finished it I was eager for a sequel. I’m sure it will be fave star too!

I got this ebook copy of Where the Night Takes Us from Booksirens and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Where the Night Takes Us gets dark quick and stays there. Simon helped put a dangerous serial killer behind bars, but prison sure does not mean the man is finished with him. Hiding away in Montana sounds peaceful until threatening postcards start showing up and Simon realizes somebody knows exactly where he is.
The forensic psychology really pulled me into this one. You have an FBI investigation, murder, revenge, a twisted serial killer, and people willing to do his dirty work from the outside. There is always that creepy feeling that somebody is watching, waiting, and getting closer.
This psychological thriller has plenty of suspense, mind games, danger, and revenge. The scariest part is knowing the man behind it all does not have to leave his prison cell to reach Simon.
I give it a 4 outta 5 catfish!

Where the Night Takes Us is an excellent serial killer/psychological thriller that lingers for days after you turn the last page. It will take up bandwidth in your brain and just make itself at home. The characters are so intriguing and realistic that they feel like real people. The story is engrossing, and I found myself reading much longer than I should have, but I couldn't put it down. Mr. Chute's writing flows so smoothly and is so easy to read that I got completely lost in the story. I also found myself wiping away tears and, then, a few pages later, laughing out loud at Simon's dry, sarcastic humor. This is the first of Mr. Chute's work that I have read, but it won't be the last. I can't wait to read the next in this series. I highly recommend it to fans of serial killers and psychological thrillers. I received a review copy from the author via BookSirens, and this review reflects my honest and voluntary opinion.

I was in a big reading slump before I received an ARC of this book, and I'm normally a slow reader on the best of days. I finished it in no time at all. I'm not usually prone to saying, "I couldn't put it down," but honestly, I had a hard time putting it down. There's some subtle stuff in there that you'll miss if you're not paying attention, so pay attention. It's worth it. Heck, even if you're not paying attention you'll enjoy this book (but you'll enjoy it more if you are).
