For Rachel Parker, covering the San Francisco Goliaths is the perfect opportunity to launch her career as a serious reporter. But she didn’t bargain on Bryce Baxter, the team’s star shortstop, tempting her more non-professional aspirations. After tearing up the base paths with him, she finds herself with a little problem, and Bryce might be the only man who can save the game.
Bryce Baxter should be living the dream. His team just won the World Series and he just signed the multi-year contract of his career. But his field of dreams has been overtaken by a fiery redheaded reporter, who’s bearing a news flash that will change both of their lives forever…
Kristina Mathews doesn't remember a time when she didn't have a book in her hand. Or in her head. But it wasn't until she turned forty that she confessed the reason the laundry never made it out of the dryer was because she was busy writing.
While she resigned from teaching with the arrival of her second son, she's remained an educator in some form. As a volunteer, parent club member or para educator, she finds the most satisfaction working with emergent and developing readers, helping foster confidence and a lifelong love of books.
Kristina lives in Northern California with her husband of more than twenty years, two sons and a black lab. A veteran road tripper, amateur renovator and sports fanatic. She hopes to one day travel all 3,073 miles of Highway 50 from Sacramento, CA to Ocean City, MD, replace her carpet with hardwood floors and serve as a “Ball Dudette” for the San Francisco Giants.
I enjoyed this book, I liked both Bryce and Rachel. They had great chemistry and both were passion people. My only issue was the amount of inner dialogue, I found both of them spent too much time in their own head instead of talking to each other. Otherwise I did enjoy this book.
Earning a Ring is the 4th book in the More Than a Game series, I've enjoyed all the books and highly recommend them.
Thank you to Kensington Books - Lyrical Shine via Netgalley for the advance copy.
This series has been a hit or miss with me but I really did enjoy reading about Rachel and Bryce.
Rachel is a reporter while Bryce is a baseball player. They have hooked up in the past but it's never been anything serious. But now Rachel is pregnant and Bryce is going to do everything in his power to make this work.
I liked how these two started out as just hooking up and it gradually starts to turn into something serious. Although with Bryce trying to do the right thing I think his untimely proposal wasn't necessary but it helped make him see that Rachel is the only woman he wants.
Because the time frame between reading the books I had a hard time remembering the previous characters and how they ended up with there HEAs.
In most sports books some authors skip over the field time but I thought Mathews did an excellent job in making the players real. I liked how Rachel was a reporter and how she had the charm to talk to the players about each and every game.
I am looking forward to reading more of this series and meeting more of the players on the team.
Bryce is a really supportive man and I liked that, “if you have to give up coffee, I will, too.” Bryce continued to stand there, hovering. “We’re in this together.” I loved the playful side of Rachel, “I hate to break it to you, but you’re still quite a handful.” She smiled as she stared into his lap. “Oh, yeah, you’re quite the handful.” I loved this book Bryce was a great guy.
This is the second book in this series that I have read; the other was Making A Comeback which I really liked a lot. Here in Earning A Ring, there's more good writing and interesting characters and a plot that will have sports romance fans happy...but not everything rang true for me throughout the story.
My favorite character was definitely Bryce, even though he was a bit of a player before, we now get to see a more responsible guy and I was pleasantly surprised with his dedication to family in this story. Rachel was harder for me to like--I felt like she was too quick to jump to conclusions, and to not want to give Bryce a chance like she should. And while I really liked Bryce, he and Rachel together just didn't feel genuine to me. I didn't feel like they really worked well as a couple the way I've seen other "first comes marriage, then comes love" type setups.
But Earning A Ring does have its sweet moments, and it's wonderful to see both Bryce and Rachel committed to making things work for both their child as well as Bryce's daughter from his first marriage. Bryce turns out to be a man that any woman would be proud of, which is why he was my favorite character of the story.
For me, this was an overall 3.5-star read, mostly due to the lack of chemistry Bryce and Rachel seemed to demonstrate. While they may have steamed things up between the sheets, the rest of their interactions just didn't feel natural and true. But if you are a sports romance fan or a fan of this series, you'll still enjoy the storyline and the strong characters which for me made up for the relationship chemistry that I felt was a bit lacking.
“He drank her in as if she was a long, cool drink of water on a hot day. He needed her. And the way she pressed against him, running her fingers through his hair and taking him in, she needed him too.”
4 adorable stars! This book was definitely cute and a lot more tame than what I usually read but I loved every page!!
Bryce Baxter is the star shortstop for the San Francisco Goliaths baseball team. He’s on a high after winning the world series and signing a huge contract. The last thing he needs is a woman to come and complicate it, but in walks Rachel Parker. Rachel has just started working as a sports reporter and she’s given the task to cover SF Goliaths. She never thought in a million years that while on location she’d meet one of the hottest players and that he’d be interested in her. Their attraction is instantaneous and the sparks fly. But when a complication arises that can change both of their lives, what will they do?
This book had a lot of heart and you can’t help but fall in love with the characters. The storyline was well written and it was hard not to be sucked in!! While this book is part of a series, this one can be read as a standalone!

Earning a Ring by Kristina Mathews is the 4th book in the More Than A Game series about the San Francisco Goliaths baseball team. We enter the story at the beginning of a new season coming off a World Series win. Rachel Parker, team and fan reporter for the Goliaths, wants to be taken as a serious reporter but when it comes to Goliath All Star & MVP shortstop Bryce Baxter things get complicated. Bryce has the world as his fingertips. He just signed a new 6 year contract and feels like he's found a real place in the team. When Rachel came into his life last season he never saw this coming.
I love a good sports romance, though this wasn't my standard read. I found the book very tame compared to other books I read, I wouldn't hold that against any writer. Bryce was a great lead character but Rachel was off putting and repetitive. I enjoyed the twists with Bryce's ex-wife and that held my attention. I give Kristina Mathews Earning a Ring 3 Stars.

This is the fourth book in the series. Bryce is raining World Series MVP and just signed a big new contract the pressure is on. Now he is in that dreaded slump, but that's not all that's going on. He gets some shocking news from Rachel that will change both their lives forever. Bryce's playboy days are numbered which should scare him crazy, but he's feeling a whole lot different. Rachel soon finds herself in the position that her reporting job is in jeopardy, but Bryce steps up to the plate more ways than one. One big issue these to have is communication. They have trouble saying what is truly on their minds which leads to a lot of misunderstandings. Their new relationship gets tested when another bombshell is dropped on Bryce. Bryce has a lot on his plate with how his playing on the field and his personal life how is going to affect his playing? Can Bryce and Rachel's relationship survive or end before it even begins?
Bryce and Rachel had chemistry, fire, and passion amongst themselves and for the professions they have chosen. Even with a past between them their story truly begins here. Bryce in a slump and Rachel in a quandary over recently received news.
There was a lot if inner dialogue the two carried within. There needed to be more interaction of conversation between them. I felt if there was more open communication between them there would have been no distrust, mistrust, or hurt feeling from lack of communication.

Rachel and Bryce started out just hooking up, but gradually it forms into something more serious. They have an unexpected surprise show up and they try to figure out how to handle everything. This book has a lot of heart and eventually you will fall in love with the characters. I did enjoy this one.
This was my favorite of the series so far. There was so much to like about hero ballplayer, Bryce Baxter. For more of my review, check out my blog. http://goo.gl/DAUN2g Review copy provided by NetGalley in exchange of an honest review.

Because Love is more than a game! And Bryce Baxter has learned his lesson in the wrost way. He has all: he's gorgeous, with the Goliath Team he has won the World Series, he's an MVP player and he has just signed the contract of his life. But something seems to be missing in his life. His fisrt marriage has left him with the feeling to have failed if not as a husband but as a father of a nine years daughter he's left behind. None of this is only his fault, his ex wife is not so easy to handle, she's more interested in his money.
Rachel Parker is the reporter for the Goliath baseball team. She loves her job and she's very good at it and eveyone respects her. She's determined, professional, but she has a thing for the gorgeous player with the Midas touch, Bryce Baxter. But in her private life she has always felt as an outsider in her own family, that's why she doesn't trust easily. The attraction between the two of them is undeniable and they start to have some after games encounters.
When Rachel discovers to be pregnant of Bryce's child she faces the situation telling him the truth and expecting for him to run away. For Bryce, history seems to repeat itself, but this time the feelings he has for Rachel are genuine and he wants to do the right thing. This time he wants to be a good husband and father, to prove he's not a failure as a man. "But baseball is a humbling game. Success is the exception, not the rule." He knows that Rachel doesn't trust him and with a spectacular proposal at which she can't say no, they get married. And now he has to work hard earning that ring.
A twist of events brings Bryce back to his ex wife and daugheter. This is his chance to right the wrongs and be the father he always wanted to be.
Will Rachel and Bryce find a way to make her marriage work and be a big happy family? "As an older, wiser veteran, he now understood that he wasn't that special. Baseball, like marriage, was a team game. It wasn't up to just one person to ensure success." Kristina Mathews is undoubtedly an expert in baseball. I love how she describes the play, the "behind the scenes" of this amazing game, with its complicated rules. I loved how Bryce is always respectful of his team, his friend and himself, how he doesn't take for granted his fame, his big contract. I love how much he works for his career and to become a better man. Rachel is lovely but sometimes she's a little bit repetitive. I didn't like how she always assumed the wrost about Bryce. At the end she impressed me with her undestrandig Bryce family issue and her trying the best to make him happy.
I have not read book 1 and 2 yet, and I have the feeling that something is missing to me. I'm really curious to know more about Johnny “The Monk” Scottsdale and Alice Harrison, and Hunter Collins and Marco Santiago couples, that in this book are montioned.
A good book, the storyline is well written and engaging. If you love baseball and romance this is the right book to read.
This book was a huge, big disappointment for me. Sure, the first book I’ve read of this series didn’t impress me much, but the next book was better, and the next one even more so. So EARNING A RING should’ve been the jackpot moment for me, considering the couple was the only one I actually was dying to read because of their instant chemistry. Was it like hitting the jackpot? Not so much.
First of all, I didn’t buy the emotional connection between Bryce and Rachel at all. They had more connection in other couples’ books than they had in their own. How disappointing. I felt as if the author took the unexpected pregnancy plot and simply ran with it. A success story for me this was not though.
Everything happened in an instant. In the span of a few pages, we found out Rachel was pregnant, Bryce wanted to do right by her and asked her to marry him live on tv, Rachel had to say yes. Later they get a quickie wedding in Reno, and Rachel moves in with him leaving everything of hers behind. And I mean everything. I don’t mean to be one of those people who just sums a book up for you but I have to say this. Rachel gives up all. She leaves her apartment to go live with Bryce, he practically tells her to sell her own car, hiding behind the facade of thinking of her own safety and, well, the baby’s coming so they need a family car anyway. She’s forced to strip off everything that represents her as a successful woman, all that she’s earned herself, to become Bryce Baxter’s wife. Don’t get me wrong, if this was a real marriage, sure, compromises can be made, on both parts, but theirs was not a real thing and I don’t even know why they felt the need for this marriage. I think this was unfair to these characters as well, having seen them in previous books as two rational human beings, I didn’t quite grasp this rash decision making process they seemed to have going on. There was no hint of who they both used to be, just two people jumping into things without giving it real thought. I expect this kind of thing in a relationship between two young people but not adults. This was definitely not the way I want characters to behave in the romances I choose to read.
I know this review may sound so harsh, but that’s only because I expected so much more from Kristina Matthews. I was used to reading uplifting, inspiring stories from her that this just failed spectacularly. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t bring myself to feel anything for the two protagonists. They rushed so much into things so fast that in the end they just kept constantly going back and forth with their feelings and actions.
This story, unfortunately, was too forced, too rushed and simply not at all intriguing for me. Perhaps I like this author’s work so much that I felt this level of disappointment. Without a doubt I would’ve expected better from Kristina Matthews.
Rachel Parker loves being a reporter and covering news for the San Francisco Goliath's, not only is she able to live out her dreams in front of the camera, but she is also front and center at every game covering her favorite sport...baseball! Being surrounded by all the handsome players could certainly be viewed as a added bonus by some, but for Rachel, she decided early on to never let her work life mix with her home life. Which seems to be a rather easy rule to follow, that is until after she meets the Goliath's smooth talking star player Bryce Baxter, then she begins to wonder how bad it would be for her to make a one time exception... Being with Bryce outside of her work world would definitely be breaking the rules, and potentially putting her job at risk, but there is just something about him that has her wanting to stray from the straight and narrow. Not realizing though that this one time exception could change the course of her entire life...
To an outsider looking in it would appear that Bryce Baxter seems to have it all, a career that he loves, many accolades under his belt, fame and fortune, and a fancy sports car to boot. But even with all these riches he still feels like there is something missing from his life... a feisty redheaded reporter to be exact. After a few secret hook-ups with her, he can't seem to shake the hold she has over him, and it's starting to effect his game. He knows the only way to get things back on track is to either get over her, or convince her they have something more than just a casual friendship, but she has a rule, and isn't so willing to break it. Just when he thinks it's time to let her go, she shows up on his doorstep with some news that has him wanting to do admit things to her he never thought possible...
This story captured my attention right from the start and had me flying right through the pages, with a dire need to know more, which inevitability had me staying up well past my bedtime just to get my fix! This was my introduction to Ms. Mathews work, and I have to say that it left a very memorable first impression, so much so, that I plan to revisit the series and read the books released prior to this one. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute spent getting acquainted with these wonderfully crafted characters and I highly recommend that you take a chance on them too! It is a highly satisfying read that will melt your heart and having you looking at baseball players in a whole new light... and possibly leave you with the desire to catch a game..or two!!

Heartfelt and emotional story, filled with passion, family in all the different forms it comes, and baseball. Bryce and Rachel, they have the connection, the chemistry, the spark, the passion. The over year long on-off hook ups now has consequences, Rachel is pregnant. I adored how Bryce reacted to the news, the bad boy has a heart of gold, and is a true, solid stand up guy. And he tries so hard, to do the right thing, to be good, to win Rachel's heart, to make a family, you name it, he is all in, but the more he tries, the more mistakes and misunderstandings are between him and Rachel. Because Rachel just can't believe that he cares, isn't mad, angry, resentful. She has her trust issues, and is ready to see her worst fears come to life, and to run, because her heart has been broken so many times before. So the fumble, stumble, and botch, but they are on the right path, and as long as they are willing to fight to stay together, for their family, they just might make it. There's the issues of Bryce's past, his ex-wife, and young daughter. It was commendable how they both, Rachel and Bryce, reacted to that mess. I thought as a story, it wasn't maybe necessary to bring the mess with the ex, maybe there was enough of obstacles on their way already, and in the end, it didn't affect the story as a whole. Most of the story is told by inner reflection of Rachel and Bryce. There's a little dialogue, I wish there would have been more. The long thoughts give a great insight to the characters, you see how they grow and develop, but too much of a good thing, and it can get a bit heavy to read. I liked the amount of the actual baseball was part of the story, the moments and events at the ballpark were a big part how the story advanced, and you could feel the excitement and occasional disappointment of the fans and players. The family of the team, of the people working in the park, how they pulled together, and took care of each other, was lovely. The humor and laughter brought lighter moments into the story, and the passion between Bryce and Rachel was blazing. Bryce with his daughter was just the sweetest thing, with his overly protective alpha male reaction to a nine year old. This mesmerizing story pulled me in, and I couldn't put it down until the end. To live those moments of fumbling into love, family, and future with Bryce and Rachel were touching, so honest, and somehow raw, I couldn't help but root for them ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side
My Review: This is another good one in this really good series. Bryce and Rachel have been sleeping together off and on for about a year. When things are going well for him on the diamond, he likes to celebrate with a round in Rachel's bed. Every time, Rachel is determined it will be the last, but then he unleashes that charming smile and she's putty. She can't tell him no. But then something changes...and it's not just Bryce's luck when he's playing the game he loves.
I did really enjoy this one. Bryce and Rachel are in a difficult situation just in that they've never had a relationship before. It was always JUST SEX. They never even went out for dinner before. It's hard to have trust in the relationship with that kind of foundation. Yes, they have chemistry, but sex doesn't fix everything. And it certainly doesn't with these two.
I liked the way the author wrote the story. There is certainly not smooth sailing for these two. They literally have nothing to build a relationship on and as they get further and further into things, that becomes more and more obvious. They don't know how to do the basics of getting along in life with one another. And this thing with Rachel isn't the only pressure that Bryce is having to deal with. With the team coming off a World Series win and with him making a TON of money now, there is a lot of pressure to perform. Pressure that's proving to be too much as he can't get his game to settle into a rhythm.
I liked the way the story was put together with the support story lines that pushed the whole book forward. Although there were times when I wanted to bat both characters upside their heads for being stupid, I did really enjoy the book. I could see so easily why they were both having issues adjusting and it made my heart hurt for them.
And I do love sports books and this one was great because there was a lot of truly great information about the game. Rachel is a reporter for the Goliaths so she and Bryce know the game inside and out. I like books where I feel like I learned a little bit of something more and this was definitely one of those because there are a lot of the intricacies of the game that were explained over the course of the book.
If you like sports book, this is a great series. I recommend it. Note: this is part of a series, but you can easily read each book as a stand-alone.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
In a book vastly different than the former (I've only read book 3), we have a couple who have... known... one another for more time than the pages we're presented. Baseball playboy, Bryce Baxter, has his fair share of women, but he has a strict one-and-done... that is, for everyone other than reporter Rachel Parker. He's constantly drawn back to her and while he's not looking for forever, he doesn't exactly want to end their arrangement either.
That said, having two characters with history sometimes makes the reader feel lost, but I felt that Ms. Matthews handled these two and their past extremely well, because while they have a past that the reader hasn't read, Rachel and Bryce's story truly, truly, starts with this book -- with Bryce in a play slump and Rachel worried that her career is going to plummet due to news she's just received.
What I also thought was well played was that Rachel wasn't a push-over. She may have only been with Bryce in the previous months, but she wasn't naive in thinking that Bryce hadn't been with others. And while that truth finds a way to hurt Bryce, her distrust in him in that regard, I think it helped the man grow up. Bryce is definitely bombarded with a lot of news in this story, and watching him overcome it, watching him go from a reckless, uncaring playboy of the sport, to a man to look up to, was incredibly well written.
I did find Rachel to be a bit too welcoming at points in this story, but it wasn't derived from her desire to make Bryce happy, but simply because it was the type of person she was -- something that was consistent from the first page. She wasn't a push-over, she simply was a person who found the good in situations, or thought of reasons why something could be positive.
My favorite part would have to be seeing Annabelle, Nathan, and the twins again. While their story had it's eye raising moments, watching Nathan take on the twins was fun, so seeing him in the familial element again was great. I loved the support system Nathan gives Bryce in this particular story.
However, on the lines of Rachel and her fears of her career, I felt that it was a bit rushed, brushed over if you will, and the likelihood of how everything played out to be too fantastical in comparison to her fears. Otherwise, this was an easy, enjoyable read with great character growth.

The first I have read in this series, the book stood alone without issue and for a baseball themed story, a sport that intrigues me as much as watching paint dry, it kept me engaged and interested.
Having won the “big game”, being named MVP and a new high dollar contract and Bryce has everything he could have wanted: but he’s in a slump, and things just aren’t as wonderful as they should be.
Rachel is a sports reporter assigned to cover the Goliaths, and while she doesn’t lack in knowledge about the game and her job, she often missteps off the pitch. A ‘friends with benefits’ situation with the hottest guy on the team (Bryce) has them both wondering what next, especially when you add in the twist.
Together these two were cute, funny and lighthearted even if they did spend more time in their own heads than communicating honestly with one another. My real issue was Rachel and her apparent inability to actually perform a job that will have all eyes on her behavior, and how quickly she drops the ball there. I don’t want to get all ‘feminist preachy’ but her inability to separate work from pleasure/dating, and her lack of sense in that regard just rankled. So we have Bryce who is the one ‘determined’ to reform his playboy ways and commit, but she’s just dithering. It felt more than a bit contrived, and the ‘big secret’ really wasn’t one that I would expect in this day and age from someone who is ‘determined to make a name for herself in her chosen career. There’s a name, just not sure that her wishes and my perception were on the same letter in the dictionary.
Despite those hiccups I had with the plot trajectory, the story was cute and fun, and while I could see the growth and determination in Bryce to be ‘more’ for Rachel, these two just can’t say what they think TO each other, despite the obvious enjoyment. That was the real stumbling block in their relationship: being able to communicate, and while it gave us good insight into each character, I thought they took quite a while to open up and talk to one another. A cute story, that is sure to please many who appreciate the series.
I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility. This review was originally posted on I am, Indeed
Bryce Baxter has it all--a career as a professional baseball player, a new contract, endorsements, women at every corner. But after a terrible night when he cost his team the game, he can't help but think everything is hanging in the balance. He needs to get his head on straight and finding out the news the woman he has been hooking up with throughout the year will not help matters none.
Rachel Parker is happy in her life with a career she loves and her dream job in the horizon. Finding out that she's carrying last year's MVP's baby has her questioning everything. She knew what they had was casual, so she's not certain how he will react and how this will affect her career.
I liked this story very much, especially since it delivered a common trope in a new and fresh way. I think it helped tremendously that Bryce was an overall good guy who stepped up to the plate immediately. I admit, Bryce struggled with some issues and kept himself closed off, but it ultimately helped to make his journey that much more enjoyable. He was funny, charming and caring and it showed throughout--especially when the author upped the drama and brought his past to the surface.
Rachel wasn't my favorite simply because she had a tendency of assuming and coming to conclusions regarding Bryce without actually taking the time to find out the truth for herself. She complained Bryce was closed-off but she wasn't any better either. Thankfully, the author did give me the opportunity to get to know her better and understand her struggles so I could understand where she was coming from.
As with other books on the series, the author made a great effort in bringing forth Bryce and Rachel's connection and chemistry to the page. Although a bit tame in the heat department it was easy for me to see how attracted each was to the other. My only regret was that I didn't get a chance to see more of their connection make it to the page. I would appreciated a hell of a lot less time inside their heads and a lot more time connecting as a couple.
All in all, a sweet little read and a great addition to the series.

ARC in replace of honest review from NetGalley Title: Earning a Ring Author: Kristina Mathews
Earning a ring is the 4th book in the More Than A Game series about the San Francisco Goliaths baseball team. It took me a little bit to get into this book but once I did I quite enjoyed it. I really liked this book it was very interesting I never read the others before so this was a first for me.I wasn't sure what to expect in this story as I jumped into reading it with no knowledge of what it would be about. I liked how the story flowed and how it keeps you reading to find out what is going to happen next. I found that the POV between the characters it was entertaining and enjoyable. Here is a little bit about the characters. The story is about Rachel Parker and Bryce Baxter. Rachel works as a team and fan reporter for the Goliaths, and wants to be taken as a serious reporter until she meets Bryce Baxter who is a baseball player for the Goliath's. When Rachel meets Bryce things seem to get a little complicated. Bryce has the world as hisfingertips. He just signed a new 6 year contract and feels like he's found a real place in the team. When Rachel came into his life last season he never saw this coming. I wish I could tell you it was an easy love story for these two, but I’d be lying. Their love story was a bit messy at times, and It wasn’t perfect. But sometimes hurting those you love is inevitable. These are two characters that I completely and utterly loved.
I would defiantly recommend this book to all my friends who read the same types of books I do. It deliver a very real, very heart-wrenching story that could easily be about real people.
Bryce Baxter is the hottest short stop in Baseball since winning the World Series last season. However this year he's in a bit of a slump. He has no idea what to expect when the team reporter is standing by his car one night after a crappy game.
Rachel and Bryce had been hooking up randomly for the last year. She knew he didn't want anything more and multiple times she knew it would be the last time, but they kept coming back to one another. She hasn't been with anyone else, but Mr. Superstar of course has. What she has to tell him will change both of their lives forever.
She's pregnant and Bryce will do anything to get it right this time. So maybe proposing to her on national TV after a game wasn't the best idea, but it's all he wants and he can help protect her not only from media and scrutiny of being pregnant but help her keep her job and care for her and the baby.
This book is all over. Bryce shutting down when things get rough with good intentions, making decisions without her, and of course trying to maintain his baseball career. Rachel has so many thing and choices to make she doesn't know how it will all work out. It was a good addition to the series and if there are more I'll gladly read them.
I’ve been hooked on this series from book one, and I don’t see my addiction ending anytime soon.
Earning the Ring is a heartfelt, emotional story of two people destined to be together, but fighting in their minds what the heart already knows to be true.
Bryce Baxter has a moment of déjà vu when his one again, off again bed partner surprises him with some unexpected news. Knowing Rachel’s character, Bryce has no doubts about the truth of her revelation and blindsides Rachel with a public proposal.
As the much loved local heroine of Sports reporting, Rachel has her own fan base and everyone (well mostly) is ecstatic about the news of their MVP baseball player and their favourite girl tying the knot.
But Rachel doesn’t believe Bryce is in this for love and is determined to protect her heart, even knowing that that horse has already bolted and her fate is doomed.
But will this relationship filled with twists and turns, combustible passion and public support, be enough to hold them together through a lack of communication that may ultimately tear them apart?
The characters are well written and the emotional ups and downs will keep reading riveted to the very end.
Another really good story from Kristina Mathews. Bryce & Rachel were a casual hook up. Neither wanted to admit they wanted more but they couldn't see life without each other. Well life threw them a curve they weren't expecting. They were going to have a baby, but Rachel wasn't so sure about playboy Bryce. Bryce has an angry ex-wife & a young daughter he doesn't get to see much of, so when Rachel gets pregnant he decides to pull out all the stops with her. He's going to be in her life & that of his child's no matter what. The roller coaster ride started out fast & kept picking up speed with every new crisis in Bryce's life, from his slumping game, to his ex & even trying to stay out of trouble on the road, it was a wild ride. Rachel's battle with giving up her independence was a hard fought one. They both had a lot of-growing up to do & soul searching before they could get to a point were they were finally ready to make their family work. I also enjoyed seeing the characters from previous books again. Definite recommend.
This was a great sport romance. I was hooked from the beginning.
I liked Rachel and Bryce. They had a nice amount of tension and angst. But also had easy fun and a playful demeanor. Great balance between sexy and fun. Liked the story but the progression was a little hard to handle at times with so much going on against them. It was written in dual POV which I love and it did help in understanding where they were coming from. Although I wanted to hug him, scream at him and tell him to wake up at the same time.
I thought there was a good pace and build through out as well as great character development and great secondary characters. Loved learning the history between Rachel and Bryce and seeing the tender moments that showed their connection. Loved the pull they had on each other.
This was well written and captured my attention from the beginning. A full story with great details and lots of twists along the way as well as drama and intensity. Read this story in one sitting. Great ending.

America’s favorite game just got a new favorite shortstop and his name is Bryce Baxter. If the name doesn’t scream hot, hot, hot wait until he is sweeps you off his feet with his romantic gestures, good looks and charm. The heroine of the book Rachel Parker, can’t help but fall for the bad boy MVP of the World Series and who could blame her. And when life expectantly doesn’t turn out how she plans, Bryce and Rachel are quickly thrown together in a mix that will leave you wanting more.
I loved the storyline and the banter between the characters. Kristina Matthew does a great job in setting the chemistry between the two characters and sets the pace for a great read. If you love baseball and you love a good romance story, then Earning a Ring is definitely for you. It has everything that you could want and need in a book – hot, sexy male leads, humour, sex, love and romance and baseball! Definitely a book that you must add to your To-Be-Read Shelf!
I really enjoyed this book! You gotta love the sexy, arrogant jocks even though occasionally they are so dense and don't know when they've got a great thing going on. :) Bryce was a fun one to have a love/hate relationship with for awhile there ...
Bryce Baxter should be riding high. He was MVP when his team won the World Series last season and signed the best multi-year contract around. Instead he's in a slump this season and irritated that he can't get a certain lady off his mind.
Rachel Parker has been working hard at getting her sports reporter career off the ground, but got a little closer to a player than she was supposed to. When she shows up to see Bryce with a little problem on her mind, he steps up to aid the situation.
Will they decide their spark and inability to get each other off their minds is enough to build a relationship on?

I had expected the book would come out the way I was expecting it. The series has been great and I found myself enjoying the previous ones though it wasn't really that absolute bliss books it kept me entertained.
What I didn't see through my expectations was for Bryce to be too sweet. Honestly, it was too sweet and I loved him for it. I did expect him to man up and take care of Rachel but what he did was beyond the words 'take care'. I loved the chemistry. It felt like they didn't even need to try for the easy connections were the greatest.
4 stars for this great read and the series is all worth it!
Sports stories are not my forte but romance is. Kristina Matthews got me to stop and take notice with Earning a Ring. Once I got past the baseball references I actually enjoyed Bryce and Rachel. Busy careers, fiery personalities and attention getting characters made for an intriguing romance. I am not one who likes to give too much of a story away but I will say that learning to compromise was key to making this relationship work. This author is new to me and would enjoy reading more of her work in the future.
