CLAMP originally began in 1989 as a twelve-member dōjinshi circle, but by 1990, the circle had diminished from twelve to seven. Of the remaining seven, Tamayo Akiyama, Sei Nanao, and Leeza Sei left the group during the production of the RG Veda manga. Other former members of CLAMP also included Soushi Hishika, O-Kyon, Kazue Nakamori, Yuzuru Inoue and Shinya Ōmi. Currently, there are four members in the group.

In 2004, CLAMP's 15th anniversary as a mangaka group, the members changed their names from Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona Apapa, Mick Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi to Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi and Satsuki Igarashi (her name is pronounced the same, but written with different characters) respectively. The August 2004 issue of Newtype USA, a magazine specializing in events of the anime and manga subcultures, reported that the members of CLAMP simply wanted to try out new names. In a later interview with Ohkawa, it was revealed that initially Mokona wanted to drop her surname because it sounded too immature for her liking, while Nekoi disliked people commenting that her name was the same as Mick Jagger's. Ohkawa and Igarashi, wanting to go with the flow of Nekoi's and Mokona's name changes, changed their names as well.

In 2006, they made their first USA public debut at Anime Expo in Anaheim, California. They were well received at the convention, with 6,000 fans in attendance at their panel.

Ahh the volumes are starting to get better and better! Although very sad right now :( but still lots of action, emotion, plot twists, and intrigue!

everything is so intense right now! I'm glad there was a little bit of humour at the end that felt like the cherry on a sundae!

I love how this omnibus shows how close the group has gotten; how they have grown bonds and connections with each other, this also made the devastating parts involving Syaoran and Fai that much more heartbreaking. I was literally tearing up as I read these volumes.

And here we are, ladies and gentlemen: the turning point of the series. For 15 volumes CLAMP has kept us on a steady, comfortable pace: traveling different worlds, figuring out little mini-plots, retrieving feathers, slowly growing the characters and their relationships, etc. It's all been very safe, very comfortable, creative but not overly deep or complex. We've had hints of a larger plot, but nothing concrete, and we've allowed ourselves to lulled into a false sense of security. I mean, 15 volumes is a lot. Surely we know what to expect from this series now, right?

Wrong. So very, very wrong.

The appearance of the entire cast of X/1999 in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo should have been our first hint that things were about to change, but, if that hint wasn't taken, this Omnibus begins with a shocking, slap-in-the-face plot twist that will both devastate and hook the reader even more. Everything changes in this Omnibus. The plot is turned completely on its head, the slow development of the characters suddenly becomes a leap due to trauma, and even the artwork has switched to a heavier, more detailed style very reminiscent of X/1999 (there's also a twist to Kamui's character, which is interesting to note for fans of that series. I have to wonder if there are hints at CLAMP's intended ending for X in this series. Who knows?).

This is heavy, heavy stuff. The entire first volume of this Omnibus is one shock after another. The reader will be screaming. Keep a tissue box handy. Much heavier on the violence and blood in this book. But CLAMP is tactful. I'm very squeamish and didn't find the art too disturbing. They're good at implying what's happening instead of blatantly showing it, which I appreciate. But we're definitely no longer in happy-go-lucky, cute land anymore! Huge plot reveals and expositions happen. xxxHolic features heavily, with those plots intersecting even more. Pay. Attention. This is where things can get confusing if you're not diligent at following what's being said. I had to read some parts over and over until I understood exactly what was going on. It's well worth the time to go slow and figure out what's happening, why, and to whom, because the rest of this series hinges on what happens in this book. Watch. Shoaran. Closely. Note everything that happens and to which person. It's vital to get this now, or you'll just be confused in the future. Don't rush. It's worth it.

This is the absolute best part of the series for me. This is what puts Tsubasa above and beyond other manga into a league all its own. This is masterful storytelling.

One other note that I should've mentioned earlier but didn't: huge kudos need given to the translator. Notes are included at the end of every volume to clarify and explain translation and cultural pieces, and these are so helpful to the Western reader. I can't imagine the time put into doing this, and you can even hear the fear and hopefulness in the notes as the translator begins to realize that they're working on a masterpiece and are desperately hoping they're getting it right and staying true to CLAMP's vision. Keep in mind, this translator was working on it before the series was finished in Japan! An immense task. I wonder if there's anything they'd change now that it's complete?

The volumes are just on fire! I plowed through this omnibus in a couple hours, it was SO compelling. Dark and bittersweet and we're finding out SO MUCH. My favorite moments:

1. THE "CLONE" IS ACTUALLY THE *ORIGINAL* SYAORAN!!!!!!! WHAT THE FUCK!!!
2. "Fake"/"Right Eye" Syaoran ATE Fai's EYE. HE ATE HIS EYE!!!!!!!
3. Kurogane refusing to let Fai die and instead finding a loophole by making him a vampire.
4. BECAUSE HE CARES ABOUT FAI. THEY ALL NOW CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER SO MUCH.
5. Original!Syaoran being at square one with Sakura. I can't wait for them to grow close like Fake!Syaoran and Sakura did. It's gonna be delicious!!

Also, placing a bet with myself that the "special someone" of Clow from Sakura's world was the Time Witch. I speak it into existence.

5 stars, loved every moment. Binging omnibus 7 as soon as I hit submit on this one.

I found the beginning of this very confusing. I actually went back and reread almost the whole first volume. The art style in this series tends to be very distracting and makes it difficult to follow the action and sometimes differentiate the characters. In a series where there are doppelgangers and multiples that makes it even harder. I do like the crossovers with xxxHolic and I am enjoying the story overall. Fai and Kurogane's relationship reminds me a bit of Watanuki and Domeki from xxxHolic and I really hope we learn more about Fai soon.

I'm currently rereading the series, because it's been so long since my first run through. This is the part where things start getting foggy within my memories and where I remember starting to get lost and confused within the narrative.

I'm left more and more confused with every instalment. But lord I love the art. And Fai and Kurogane are giving me Hakkai and Gojyo from Saiyuki vibes
