The bestselling authors of Energy Medicine and Energy Medicine for Women present a complete program for using energy medicine to heal and strengthen romantic relationships.
A relationship begins with the meeting of two unique energies. This union of energies, though invisible, determines the way you communicate, fight, love, and want to be loved. In this groundbreaking book, the bestselling authors of Energy Medicine draw on the real-life experiences of couples who have attended their popular “Energies of Love” workshops, as well as their own experience as husband and wife, to show how an understanding of your energy system and that of your partner can help you build a more harmonious and loving bond.
We all have different ways of making sense of the world around us, but when faced with conflict, especially with those we care most about, we tend to revert to one of four “Energetic Stress Styles”:
- Visuals are extremely passionate and inspire others to care about the things they care about, but in moments of conflict, their take on the situation can overshadow what is actually occurring, undermining their ability to empathize with their partner. - Kinesthetics are generous, compassionate, and accepting of other people, but their caring nature pulls them in too many directions. They try to meet others’ needs at the expense of their own, which can cause mounting resentment. - Digitals are rational and principled and have a gift for quickly understanding complex situations, but they can become closed to others’ perspectives and feelings. - Tonals have a gift for understanding others and their dilemmas, but during moments of conflict, their ability to read between the lines can morph into hearing what was never said, felt, or thought. According to the authors, the strongest relationships are those in which the two parties feel that they are partners on a shared spiritual journey. By helping you better understand your own unique energy system, as well as that of your partner, you will be able to recognize your strengths as a couple-¬and avoid the pitfalls. The Energies of Love serves as a powerful resource for anyone who wishes to build a rich partnership while maintaining the spark that keeps a relationship exciting.

Interesting intersection between psychology and energy therapy. The tapping works; I use it regularly now to release unwanted emotional stress. I can feel tension leaving my chest and my shoulders. Some parts of the book are slow and are good reference chapters for specific communicative issues that you may have in a relationship with your partner. Since I wasn't in a relationship when I read this book, it wasn't as relevant. Still pretty interesting, however.
I also discovered this book at the right time. I recently went through a break-up and it helped me reach and attain some important insights about relationships and how I communicate with others. Having that said, this book only works when both you and your partner are on the same page. The relationship I went through most certainly wasn't due to a communicative issue and lack of understanding. If you're being mistreated, forgive and move on, but love yourself and protect yourself by affirming your personal boundaries and breaking away from the low vibrations in your life.
This is a really creative approach to relationships as seen through the eyes of an incredible energy worker, Donna Eden, whose practices follow the meridian system. Her husband, David Feinstein, is a psychologist and EFT practitioner. Together, they are quite the duo. I bought this book after seeing an interview of them describing their relationship, their approach to marriage, and this book. I loved the practical approach described in the book, and it was illuminating individually and for my relationship!
The one downside, which is why I rate it 4 rather than 5 stars, is that the relationships described in this book are purely heterosexual, complete with illustrations, and descriptions for relationships between the opposite sex. I think this is fine, but, I do think that books should be inclusive.
That said, if you are LGBTQ and are able to look past this issue or if you are in a straight marriage and you are looking for a unique and powerful way to understand yourself and inform your relationship style, this book is a good one!
This book is written in a very open, disarming way that is easy to read and easy to enjoy. David is a good storyteller and very fun and funny company. Both authors share personal, private and invaluable wisdom without superiority. Their humble, honest efforts to always increase communication and locate truth is deeply appreciated and has helped my life and loves tremendously.
I really liked this book! Found it so interesting. My husband and I are, in most aspects of our lives, complete polar opposites of each other. This book really helped explain not just our differences but why we are drawn to each other. So interesting!!!!
I listened to the audio version of this book and I learned a lot. What struck me was that the two authors are both life partners and work together professionally. There is no way I would be able to do that with my husband! But we do take care of each other beyond our professional lives. I received good ideas to try with him from this book. I need to read the book so that I can take notes which is challenging when you are listening on your commute.
There were some parts of this book I loved. Mostly the differences in energy and personalities and the tips to move energy. It was, however, very long and full of a lot of information I either didn't agree with or find particularly helpful.
Insightful approach to our relationships and why often we suddenly feel mis-matched and not aligned with our partners. Very useful and easy tools, The Energies of Love is a great help in getting your love life in harmony.
The most important part of this book is to understand that there are four energetic or sensory styles at play in all kinds of relationships.
Visual Style Projects Own Vision on the Others Disappointed When Other Doesn't Fulfill The Vision Criticizes and Judges Other Blames the Partner Dismisses the Partner "Look at me when I talk to you!" Relentless, Must Win Easily Moves to Anger Motto: "You're Wrong!"
Tonal Style "Hears" Between the Lines Exasperation at Not Feeling Heard Hears Inner Dialogue Louder Than Partner's Voice Interprets, Analyzes, & Judges Everything Small Specs of Behavior May Be Exaggerated into Tremendous Meaning Hurt More by Other's Tone of Voice Than by the Actual Words Judges Self, Hard on Self Absorbed in Own World Withdraws, Falsely Feeling Rejected Motto: "I'm Angry at You for Making Me Wrong."
Digital Style Computer-Like, the Classic Mr. Spock Cut Off From Body, Detached Cut Off From Partner Too Calm, Cool, and Collected Logical, Rational, Reasonable No Clue That There is a Problem Orderly, Structured, Programmed Tune Out the Others' Truth Can't Be Reached with Feelings, Exasperating Motto: "I'm Right!"
Kinesthetic Style Feelings Are Facts, Logic Is Suspect Overly Compassionate Compulsive Enablers Undiscerning Focus on What's Right Finally Explodes or Leaves
Once you identify your and your partners style, it's easy to understand why and how you conflict and find ways to work with those differences.
A couple chapters were a bit slow but overall the whole thing was interesting and chock-full of information and concepts that I've never seen published before. I've only heard stuff about how our personal energy field interacts and is affected by others and environment discussed from family and culture, but not in a book, so that's exciting. Part two was definitely the more helpful and engaging section for me. I especially liked the interview with Alberto and Marcela! Also enjoyed how David was honest about his first foray in trying to connect personally with spirit and his Grateful Dead story lol.
I was disappointed with this book. Some good information, but it was later in the book. Might try another of her books to see if what she suggests is less stilted. The information presented that was from other therapists was interesting, but the original information presented didn't need 350 pages to present.
