"On Island Time" by Morgan Rooney is the perfect summertime beach read! Marnie (FMC) is a workaholic vying for a promotion at her job as a museum curator. Her boss, Irene, is quite the taskmaster and rarely takes no for an answer. To prove Marnie is the right fit for the position, Irene sends her to Martha's Vineyard to curate an exhibition based on the Steven Spielberg film "Jaws" and its 50th anniversary. Martha's Vineyard is where the movie was filmed, and it also serves as the inspiration for the fictional town in the movie, so the ties with the flick run deep on the island. While Marnie is there, she meets a local named Caleb (MMC) in a horror-themed coffee shop. They have a spirited debate about horror movies and promptly cannot leave each other's thoughts. It turns out, Caleb is going to be the lead contractor on the exhibit she's curating, so they are going to be spending a lot of time together this summer. There is an undeniable attraction between the two of them, but being single-minded in her quest to get her promotion, Marnie does not want anything to jeopardize that, so she asks Caleb if they can keep things friendly and platonic. Still, the chemistry between them burbles and bubbles the more they are in each other's orbit. As Marnie gets more and more attached to Martha's Vineyard and, subsequently, Caleb, the more she realizes that life is too short to keep chipping away at work 24/7. She finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads, questioning everything she thought she knew, wanted, and wished for.
Ahhh, Caleb and Marnie! I loved their dynamic! Sometimes in romance novels, the "will-they-won't-they" pull between two characters feels fake and manufactured, but not here! It was totally believable and realistic. I loved the banter between them, even when they were trying to stay friendly only. I believed Marnie wanted to keep things professional and platonic between her and Caleb despite their chemistry with each other, and I totally loved that Caleb kept beating down her defenses (in a non-creepy, socially acceptable way, of course). Because of the nature of their work, and her deep want for a promotion back in the city, Marnie's feelings have to stay as they are... but she cannot resist Caleb's immense charm and persistence. Caleb is a complex character who is more than meets the eye. He is charismatic and attentive, but he is harboring a lot of pain because of his mother's death. He also has a strained relationship with his father, who wants Caleb to take over the family business despite his protestations. Caleb's dad thinks that the things Caleb cares most about don't matter and are just hobbies when they clearly mean the world to him. There are tons of iconic moments in this book, from the bonfire incident to the carousel, to their first meeting in the coffee shop, to the way Caleb always brings Marnie a fresh coffee, to their very first kiss, to the serious conversations about Caleb's mom and Marnie's job and obsession with it. I have to say, as a huge movie buff, I loved all of the horror movie trivia questions and debates between them. A coffee shop with year-round pumpkin spice lattes?! Sign me up! Definitely check this one out!

This was such a charming summer romance that completely transported me to Martha’s Vineyard.
Marnie arrives focused on work, but meeting Caleb slowly changes both her plans and her perspective. Their slow-burn romance felt natural, and I really enjoyed watching their connection grow.
Caleb and Marnie were easy to root for, both together and individually. Their banter was fun, the chemistry was undeniable, and I appreciated that their personal growth was just as important as the romance. I did wish a few emotional moments had been explored a little more, but I was still invested from beginning to end.
The island setting added so much heart to the story, especially with the Jaws history woven throughout.
This was a warm, feel-good romance with lovable characters, plenty of charm, and a message about finding what truly makes you happy.

ON ISLAND TIME by Morgan Rooney was a joy and got me in my feels. It is a feel-good read and I couldn’t get enough. I enjoyed the main characters, Marnie and Caleb, both on their own and together. The banter was smart and cute, and they were just completely likable, people you would want to hang out with in real life. Maybe it sounds cutesy, but you want them to get together and have a happily ever after.
The premise of this book is a lot of fun and a little twist on the typical small-town romance, slow burn story. Marnie has long wanted and worked to become a museum curator. She unexpectedly lands on Martha’s Vineyard for the summer to help secure a promotion back in Boston. She is sent to fully plan and launch, all on her own, an exhibit near and dear to the heart and history of Martha’s Vineyard. The exhibit will tell the story and the town’s involvement with the movie…drum roll please, Jaws. You read that correctly and it is great! Caleb has always lived on Martha’s Vineyard and is set to take over his family’s long running contracting company, whether he wants to or not. Hint, hint, he does NOT want to. Through the family business, he is assigned to help build this exhibit. Of course, they meet before they know who each other is. Of course they hit it off. And of course they vow to keep things professional. How long can they be platonic?
The characters, the banter, and the storyline are fantastic, but the setting is incredible. The writing by Rooney takes you away to Martha’s Vineyard. I say that having never been there, but I feel like I have visited now. I can see the sights, hear the sounds, picture the town and beaches, and envision the beautiful blue hydrangeas. When I say the book gave me the feels, it is more than just good emotions. It is also the senses and sensations. This is for you if you want a feel-good book for summer (or any time of year) with characters that you will fall in love with and root for. This is a good one that you won't want to miss.

this was such a fun summer read!! I was enamored with caleb & marnie from the jump. don’t even get me started on berry!! their banter was TOP TIER. give me caleb for myself NEOWWWWW

Marnie wants to prove to her boss that she's the right fit for the promotion at work so, Irene sends her to Martha's Vineyard to create an exhibition based on the Steven Spielberg film "Jaws" for it's 50th anniversary. The two of them go back and forth about horror movies and from there cannot each other's thoughts. In a turn of events, Caleb is going to be the lead contractor on the exhibit she's curating, so they get to spend a ton of time with one another during the summer. There is an undeniable attraction between the two of them, but Marine is so focused on the task at her for her promotion, she doesn't want anything to get in the way of that, so she asks Caleb if they can just be platonic friends. The chemistry between them continues to bubble the more time they spend around each other. As Marnie learns more and more about Martha's Vineyard she eventually becomes to attached to it, which leads to her being more attracted to Caleb. When she realizes that life is too short to keep chipping away at work 24/7, she ends up at a personal vs professional crossroads, so she has to decide for herself what she ends up wanting in and for her life in the short-term as well as long-term
Caleb and Marnie... I loved their dynamic! Slow burns are hit or miss for me and this was A MAJOR HIT. The push and pull between characters can feel forced but this was the exact opposite, the "will-they-won't-they" had me on the edge of me seat, it felt very believable so props to you Morgan and your team. Total disclosure, I love a story that has great banter between the FMC and MMC and this one delivered on that front, especially since Marine thought she only wanted to be friends with Caleb
There's not a doubt in my mind that Marine wanted to keep things as professional and platonic between her and Caleb as possible. The chemistry between the two of them is eventually something she can't ignore anymore. I loved that Caleb slowly but surely tore down her walls but he did it in a super sweet way. Given the nature of their work, and what is on the line for Marine, she has to suppress her feelings but in the end she cannot resist Caleb's charm (I wouldn't have been able to deny his persistence either lol)

Caleb's dad thinks that the things he enjoys or cares about the most are just hobbies but what he doesn't see is how much or what they truly mean to Caleb.
There's a moment in the book where Caleb and his dad finally have a conversation about his mom, thanks to his dad's therapist, and they end up spreading Caleb's mom's ashes as a symbol that the love and her memory will never be forgotten but it is time to officially move forward. Caleb's dad asks about what he's been doing for work and there's a realistic possibility that instead of them working against each other they end up being collaborators while doing what brings them happiness
This book had a little bit of everything in it. Slow burn, a good trio of friends, an MMC who hasn't let go of pain but does because of the FMC, and a complicated parent relationship that gets a long overdue conversation that leads to repairing, just to name a few things of why I enjoyed this book. It did make me smile and laugh, while also tugging at my heart strings a little bit. The chemistry between Caleb and Marine once she finally got out of her head and way was a joy to read
If you want a feel-good summer read with some depth to it then this book is for you. You will fall in love with the characters and you'll find yourself rooting for them. Y'all go check it out, this is one you don't wanna miss.
Note: I'm hoping that for Book 2 it's Parker and Linny's story because I loved their back-and-forth banter in Book 1

On Island Time completely stole my heart.
What started as a sweet summer romance quickly became a story about finding yourself, reevaluating what truly matters, and learning that success doesn't always look the way you thought it would. By the time I turned the final page, I wasn't ready to leave Martha's Vineyard, Caleb, or Marnie behind.
Marnie was such an easy heroine to root for. She has spent years working toward her dream of becoming a museum curator, pouring everything she has into her career and constantly chasing the next accomplishment. When she's sent to Martha's Vineyard to create a Jaws-themed exhibit in order to earn a promotion, she arrives with a plan and a timeline. Falling for the island—or the contractor helping bring her exhibit to life—was never part of it. Watching Marnie slowly realize that happiness isn't always tied to the next career milestone felt incredibly authentic and relatable.
And then there was Caleb.
I absolutely adored him.
Beneath his easy charm and laid-back island lifestyle was a man carrying grief, family expectations, and dreams he had quietly pushed aside for years. Caleb's journey was every bit as emotional as Marnie's. I loved watching him rediscover pieces of himself while encouraging Marnie to do the same. The way he supported her without ever trying to change her made him impossible not to fall for.
The setting deserves its own special mention because Martha's Vineyard truly felt like a character in this story. Between the local businesses, the close-knit community, the beautiful scenery, and the fascinating Jaws history woven throughout the book, I felt completely transported.
What stayed with me most was the message at the heart of this story: sometimes we become so focused on chasing the life we think we're supposed to want that we forget to ask ourselves what actually makes us happy. Watching both Caleb and Marnie discover that answer made this book so much more than a simple summer romance.
If you love meaningful character growth, unforgettable settings, slow-burn chemistry, and stories about finding where you truly belong, On Island Time deserves a spot at the top of your TBR.

As a brit, I had no idea about what Martha’s Vineyard really was. I genuinely thought it was just that, a vineyard but one popular on American shows. But who would have known it was so much more and the place to fall in love.
On Island Time is the story of budding curator, Marnie, who gets the opportunity one summer to work on an exhibit in Martha’s Vineyard, with the hopes of a Boston promotion at the end. When she temporarily relocates, not only does she find community, beautiful beaches and local history, but the love of her life in a handsome, thoughtful and deeply romantic local contractor, Caleb.
A chance encounter, forced proximity, some sexy scenes and a slight slow burn, this story is beautiful in not only its romantic tale but in evoking Martha’s Vineyard as a place. I fell in love, not just with Caleb but with this island. Googling after, all the pictures feature the key moments of Marnie and Caleb’s tale - their ride on a carousel, their visit to a lighthouse, the beach houses, all just as I pictured. Rooney has such a great ability to describe this place with such detail and magic.
Marnie is a likeable character and I immediately resonated with her. While she has a best friend, she’s somewhat of a loner, and out of this, a workaholic. She is a better version that I would want to be, and with long red hair that I would die for. But there’s also something a bit outgoing about her, quick witted and likeable, and you want to be her or just settle as her friend.
Caleb is every bit the hunk and falls in love with her instantly. But there’s a bit of a cheek to him, total manliness but his own vulnerability, a sensitivity and complete romance. He’s the blue print of the perfect man and you can’t help but fall for him as well. So when Marnie is pushing back, we want to scream at her to stop being silly and go for it, or pass him to us! Throw in his gorgeous black lab, Berry, and he’s perfection.

I loved both characters individually and together. Marnie is driven and career-focused, arriving on the island determined to impress her boss and earn a promotion. Caleb, on the other hand, is easygoing, supportive, and deeply connected to the island, though beneath the surface he struggles with family expectations and dreams he’s put on hold.
Their chemistry feels grounded and mature. I especially loved their playful banter, movie discussions, and watching them work together on the project. Despite Marnie’s determination to keep things professional, their relationship develops gradually and naturally, making the romance feel authentic and heartfelt.

One of my favorite aspects was how the author incorporated Jaws into the story. It wasn't just a fun backdrop for the exhibit Marnie is creating… it also explored the ripple effects.

Marnie finds out just how small the town is when mystery man strolls into the museum. He'll be her construction consultant for the exhibit. Surely, they can keep things strictly professional for four months...
This was such a perfect read for summer. It's sweet, low stakes, funny, and gives the best beach vibes.
Marnie and Caleb are so good together. There is always an ease with which they interact, even if they're not pleased with one another. They can tease one another, support each other, and of course they care for each other so much.
I enjoyed the mini slow burn, and the back and forth between them. They're also wonderful as a couple, not only with the spice, but with the sweet and thoughtful moments as well.
The side characters were all so much fun and always added a lot to the scenes they were in and I really hope we get more books in this series.
There are some heavier themes discussed in the book, namely grieving, that I thought were done very well.
I also loved Rooney's writing and can't wait to read more! I highly recommend this one!

On Island Time by Morgan Rooney was a charming and heartfelt romance that perfectly captured the magic of escaping everyday life and discovering unexpected love. Set in the background of Martha’s Vineyard, we are introduced to the FMC Marnie Stevens, a young woman who wishes to become a museum curator and the MMC Caleb Hansen, a contractor that has lived at Martha's Vineyards his whole life. One of the things that really stood out to me was how Rooney transported us the reader to a beautiful island setting filled with sun-soaked beaches, close-knit locals, and just enough drama to keep the pages turning. The island itself almost feels like a character, with vivid descriptions that create a cozy, vacation-like atmosphere that made me want to pack my bags and visit for a week. Overall, On Island Time was a delightful escape filled with romance, warmth, and the reminder that sometimes the best things happen when you slow down and enjoy the things around you.

This book was a BEAUTIFUL love letter to Martha’s Vineyard and I just loved it. Marnie and Caleb’s story against the backdrop of one amazing island was so sweet and well done. I love Morgan’s style of writing and I felt the emotions, settings and overall feel of every scene. There are some funny, touching, emotional moments all throughout the story and this is a perfect beach read. Marnie and Caleb had immediate chemistry that you could feel from their first interaction and stayed through the epilogue. Morgan captured beautifully how it feels to lose a parent so young through Caleb’s backstory and I found my tearing up a few times as we learned his history. I hope there is a book two for Linny and Parker (and I hope there is some comeuppance for Irene/John in it!). I really loved this book, will be recommending to my reader folks!

On Island Time was a breath of fresh air, a sweet and entertaining read that is perfect for the summer season, especially if you enjoy dual POV stories, small-town coastal living, and the found family trope. I had a fun time with this one! I could relate to Marnie in a lot of ways, and watching her relationship develop with Caleb was really fun. I love how hard he pursued her from the very beginning of knowing each other, and the flow of getting to see their feelings grow deeper and stronger was really well done. The found family trope is one of my favorites, and the friend group was great! I would love to see Linny and Parker's story next.

SO many things I loved about this book!
While it was so hard to narrow down, here are my top three favorite things about this book:
For starters, I loved the setting, which I felt made perfect sense for Caleb and Marnie’s story.
While I have never been to Martha’s Vineyard, this book made it feel like I have visited a thousand times.
I also LOVED Berry, Caleb’s Labrador, and found so many similarities between her and my own Lab. 🤍
I also just love her name and the story behind it. In a way, it felt like a perfect little “easter egg” moment when the story behind her name was revealed.
Lastly, I loved Art. Everything about him, his coffee shop, and the way he was subtly involved in Marnie and Caleb’s love story was so perfect.

So this is my first Morgan Rooney read but now I'm gonna go read literally everything she's ever written 😭
This book HOOKED me immediately, like I forgot the outside world existed type of hooked. Such an easy read and Marnie and Caleb's story is the swooniest romance, hands down the best summer read of the year for me.
This book gives your typical hallmark movie but make it summer instead of christmas.
If you're in a slump or just want a good beach read, THIS is the one. Go get your copy, go find a beach (or your couch, no judgment), and thank me later.

This book HOOKED me immediately, like I forgot the outside world existed type of hooked. Such an easy read and Marnie and Caleb's story is the swooniest romance, hands down the best summer read of the year for me.
This book gives your typical hallmark movie but make it summer instead of christmas.
If you're in a slump or just want a good beach read, THIS is the one. Go get your copy, go find a beach (or your couch, no judgment), and thank me later.

This was a really story about Marnie and Caleb. I thought it was so much fun being set at Martha’s Vineyard and she was tasked with making a setup about Jaws. I thought that was so original and I loved it. Especially when Caleb was sent to help build her display. Having conflict with his father and wanting out of the business to pursue his own dreams made sense. Everyone should. And I loved that Marnie encouraged that in him. It was great seeing the two of them find a connection and enjoying their time together. It had both of them rethinking what they wanted in life. This was so well written. Sweet and fun. I really enjoyed reading this.

I received an advanced copy from Luna Literary Management and the author. On Island Time by Morgan Rooney was such a delightful read. It felt like a breath of fresh air the moment I started reading it. Morgan Rooney blends humor, vulnerability, and a sun-soaked atmosphere so effortlessly that I was completely swept away. She really captures the magic of slowing down and reconnecting. If you’re looking for a book that makes you laugh and leaves you daydreaming about a getaway, this one is perfect.

This is an enchanting summer read! It has all the summery and sweetness vibes that you look for in a romance. You will fall in love with Caleb and Marnie! Marnie wasn’t looking for a summer romamce when she took a job on the beautiful island of Martha’s Vineyard, but that’s exactly what she found. Strangers to lovers, workplace romance, and so many romantic gestures! This is such a feel good story with lots of heart and soul.

The perfect summer read! I want to visit Martha’s Vineyard asap! Morgan wrote this book so well! The details, description, it all made me feel like I was on the island. Caleb and Marnie are so precious! The book was so wholesome and feel good. I thoroughly enjoyed it! If you’re in the need for a summer read, I highly recommend On Island Time!

This was a great summer read. Caleb and Marnie have really good chemistry and I was rooting so much for a happy ending because how can you not? They were so cute together! I Getting both of their perspectives through the dual POV made the whole story feel so much deeper and sweeter.

Such a sweet story!!! The setting was absolutely picturesque and I adored almost every character. There's a special place in my heart for Art and his Halloween themed cafe. The romance was adorable, the arcs were developed, and I was grinning from ear to ear at the epilogue. Perfect summer read!

Excellent book…would definitely recommend! The slow burn romance and banter between the main characters was fun and very enjoyable to read. I loved how the author intertwined the story with the backdrop of Martha’s Vineyard and its history. Perfect beach read…well done Morgan Rooney!
