DARKLY COMPELLING, COMPLETELY CAPTIVATING AND FANTASTICALLY ENTERTAINING !!!
Beneath The Broken Moon is a brand new shifter/vampire romance series from Sarah Makela and it totally rocks. It has a little bit of everything I love in a great book! If you love fantasy, magic, adventure, social, political and family conflict, action, paranormal beings, romance and angst, then this is definitely the book for you! Please be aware, this is Part One of a series, not a stand alone story, so there is a cliffhanger. The story is exciting, original and well written. The characters are fascinating, intriguing and engaging. And this is only the beginning! The story takes place in a somewhat dystopian future world shattered by a nuclear event on the moon causing the near destruction of the human race. The remaining humans are now aware of the nocturnes and seeing them as a threat, seek to kill or capture them. What better way for a government or the rich to thrive than by oppressing the less fortunate and simultaneously keep down the population. Werewolves are now almost extinct and food sources for vampires are scarce. Even though they were age old enemies, some vampires now craved werewolf blood claiming it to be a divine elixir, almost like a drug that holds a strange allure because of the power the werewolves harness thereby further fueling the centuries old feud between the two mortal enemies. Werewoman Carmela Santiago lives in this strange new world, a werewolf born to an abusive, manipulative father. Her only value being her womb and her ability to be mated to an alpha werewolf, a prearranged marriage with someone she doesn't even know, handled by her cruel father. Her future is to become an Alpha Queen and spend her life unhappy and doing nothing but producing pups to replenish their species. But after being raised by a cruel and abusive father and seeing firsthand the horror of her father and mother's loveless marriage, she wants no part of a prearranged pairing. She wants nothing more than to be loved and live a life with tenderness and respect. No matter how much she dreamed, she was of noble birth and her future had already been decided. Hmm....I wonder??? Carmen was not allowed to leave her home often but her father has finally agreed to allow her to go to the theater with her cousin, Chandra. Unfortunately, the theater is raided by the Cazador, human hunters who either kill nocturnes or capture them to use as experiments to test their weapons for maximum efficiency. Carmela is severely injured trying to escape the hunters and is almost captured when she is suddenly rescued by a handsome vampire. Oh my! Did she just think a vampire was handsome? Werewolves didn't think of vampires as handsome or fantasize about them - they are mortal enemies. Nonetheless, vampire Derek Ashmore saves the beautiful young werewolf and even provides medical attention, only because he used to be a medical doctor, of course. Why else would he be guilty of such a foolish act? They were enemies, after all. Maybe because he was attracted to her?? Maybe because he wanted her?? What? He was an ancient and a member of the High Council; He couldn't afford to have such thoughts. She had even admitted to him that she was to be given to another werewolf in a prearranged agreement by her family before she escaped his home. He would just have to trust that she would tell no one about him helping her and forget the whole thing. But could he forget the beautiful, brave young werewoman that was promised to someone else? Hmm....I guess we'll have to read the book. No spoilers from me but I will say this...... Handsome, sexy vampire-check! Handsome alpha wolf shifter-check! Beautiful werewoman-check! Danger, action, suspense, mystery and malevolent enemies-check! Instant attraction, romance and angst-you bet! I can hardly wait to read Book Two! Fabulous Entertainment and an awesome read!
