"Big, bold, and sexy, Texas True is Janet Dailey at her best!”—Kat Martin
“Dailey does the genre proud with plenty of intrigue, subplots, twists and, of course, love. Fans and newcomers alike will revel in the ride.”—Publishers Weekly on Texas Tall
Janet Anne Haradon Dailey was an American author of numerous romance novels as Janet Dailey (her married name). Her novels have been translated into nineteen languages and have sold over 300 million copies worldwide.
Born in 1944 in Storm Lake, Iowa, she attended secretarial school in Omaha, Nebraska before meeting her husband, Bill. Bill and Janet worked together in construction and land development until they "retired" to travel throughout the United States, inspiring Janet to write the Americana series of romances, where she set a novel in every state of the Union. In 1974, Janet Dailey was the first American author to write for Harlequin. Her first novel was NO QUARTER ASKED.
She had since gone on to write approximately 90 novels, 21 of which have appeared on the New York Times Bestseller List. She won many awards and accolades for her work, appearing widely on Radio and Television. Today, there are over three hundred million Janet Dailey books in print in 19 different languages, making her one of the most popular novelists in the world.
Janet Dailey passed away peacefully in her home in Branson on Saturday, December 14, 2013. She was 69.
This is only my second Daily book but I'll be looking for more. Sky is half Indian and half white. His mother passed at the very young age of 3 and he had never known who his father even was. He was raised by his uncle and had a hard childhood. He ran away in his teens and headed for a land his mother often spoke of in Texas. He is quickly hired on at a ranch called Rimrock and starts a new life. Sky becomes known as the horse whisperer and becomes as close to a family member as possible to the Tyler family. Sky finds himself interested in a woman that comes from the complete opposite world that he came from. He thinks he should not allow himself to care for this woman, he feels he's not worthy of her love. The cousins he was raised with show up in the area and bad things start happening. He hopes his gut instincts are wrong and it's not one of them that's causing the situations and deaths in the area. Can he solve the mystery before more lives are lost.
Lauren Prescott alike doesn't think she should get involved with Sky but he's the one that warms her blood. She tries to stay away but she finds she's needs him when tragedy strikes.
Talk about romance with an edge of suspense! Dailey has the genre nailed. Romance abounds as readers are drawn deeper and deeper into the fascinating world that she’s created. Yet there’s so much more to the story. A strong plot and seamless narrative combine to present a tale with both substance and heart.
The realistic characters in this novel are both well developed and approachable. I enjoyed getting to know them amidst the mystery and scandal that abounded in this novel. They stand apart as individuals, even as I was able to see them as a couple.
This was a great novel to read on its own and even better as part of this series. I will warn readers that the first novel in the series contains some context points, but this story can also be read on its own.
Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.
Heiress Lauren Prescott is determined to not be a pawn for her father’s re-election campaign and though she isn’t acting like the same woman Sky Fletcher met in town at the bar, she is still interested despite his heritage that would make her father jump into a grave. The pair get a chance to know each other better when Lauren begins working on the Tyler’s finances.
Squatters and shooters on Tyler land is juggled with more of Sky’s entitled relatives; Stella has exciting new manipulations, plus Sky and Lauren’s chemistry-free romance in a very obvious storyline that held neither intrigue, suspense nor interest for this reader. All this combined for a bland, maybe boring but busy read to my taste. Rating: 3.25stars
I enjoyed this book and this series I think it was well written and exciting. This book is mainly about Sky and Lauren who are an unlikely couple.
Sky just inherited 100 acres of prime grazing land from Bull Tyler and he learns a secret about his past. Sky knows little about where he came from and even less about his parents but he is a horse whisperer and he's highly paid for his work. He lives on the Tyler ranch and works hard.
Sky meets Lauren one night while she's out getting drunk and wanting to get laid but Sky takes her home instead. The next time they meet Lauren has been hired by the Tyler's to keep books and she runs into Sky. He shows her around, services her and then leaves her to go back to work with the message that if she wants more to contact him.
So Lauren rides over to the Tyler's on a very nervous black stallion that needs someone who can settle him down into a good horse. Lauren got the horse from her dad who is a Congressman. Sky says he will work with her and the horse.
There is a twist after that that keeps you interested and more action. The story is a grabber and you can't wait to read on.
I did not think that starting the Tylers of Texas series would result in a loss of sleep...but it was soooo worth it! While this genre is not for everyone, it is my go to. Janet Dailey is right up there with Diana Palmer, BJ Daniels and other excellent authors that capture the western landscape, the people and culture so well. The bad people are really bad and the good are strong, loyal and loving. In all 3 books in this series so far, the writing, editing, storytelling, character development and suspense earned them a high rating.
Love conquers all. The relationship between Sky and Lauren was well developed. The relationship between Lauren and her father was just...sad. That he would attempt to pimp her out to get political contributions and advantage was disgusting.
I always enjoy reading Janet Dailey's books, especially the books that are part of a series. Like this book. I was almost thru this book and I found a word that I thought that the character, Sky Fletcher, would never even say. Why, because the word is Yiddish and Sky is 1/2 Comanche indian.
See if you can find the word. Otherwise, I did enjoy the book. But finding the word and him using it, just made me wonder, if Janet wrote the book, she would not have used that word. I am just saying.
Really enjoyed getting to know the elusive Sky. This one, like the last book, aren’t just a cowboy or a love affair book, there is some mystery going on too.
Glad to see I was right in presuming Bull was Sky’s father, but I didn’t guess that Lauren’s family had connections to his mother too.
Onto the 3rd book now. I wish I had discovered this author while she was still alive and writing, but as the author is still publishing books well after her death, someone must be ghostwriting for her - and they are in the same style.
Another great read by Mrs Dailey. The Saga continues right where it left off. The stories of the characters continue and the story fives deeper into some of the background stories we were introduced to in the first book. You definitely need to read them in order to know what’s going on. Very excited to have found this series after reading all the Calder books, even the new Calder Brand spinoff. I needed another series and this one is exactly what I was looking for. You won’t want to put it down!
Wow, this book has many, many twists and turns. There is murder, romance, family and suspense. There was so much going on, at times I was a little panicky . I could easily relate to all the characters but especially Sky and Lauren. I wish Marie could have been helped, but maybe it was too late to reach her. The only negative, the sex scenes could have been tone down a bit. Janet Dailey has done a good job with this book. I recommend it.
This is my favourite of the Tylers of Texas series. I loved Sky the half-Comanche horse whisperer even though I thought the woman in the book could have used a little more character development. She seemed a bit one dimensional.
Still, this book is better than the first one. Lots of drama, action, and multilayer plot lines to follow that you don’t actually get the whole backstory until Book #3 Texas Tall.
Janey Dailey sure knows how to capture your attention in the first sentence of a book. I can hardly wait to read on. She keeps you interested as she reveals just a little of the story at a time. Cant wait to start the next book in the series!
The story of Rose tells of the earlier days of Bill Tyler and his son's on the ranch. A good story of early days in Texas and how the Tyler's of Texas managed to live the tough life on their ranch and people who were part of the early days. A very nice story after all the hardship, lies and very tough people.
I have read Janet Dailey books in the past. Did not set out to read this one but found it in a Little Book Library in my town, so I took it and began reading. Very hard to put down. Very suspenseful, but yet a romance novel, too. Since this was the 2nd book in the series, I just went online to our local library and checked out the first book. 😊
Ms. Dailey has the gift to make the reader live her story . Tumultuous, men with pride wrangling a good life out of a tough ground and loving their chosen women as fiercely as a Texas storm. Texas Tough never has a dull moment and imitates real life like a mirror. Reviewed by Heide Katros, Winter Haven News, Florida
When you read a book, and find yourself holding your breath, and you have to stop reading and tell yourself "BREATHE!" ...you are reading a Janet Dailey book! This one is certainly one of them!
I loved how the Tylers rally about each other and all they care for. Sky and Lauren’s love story unwinds but really Stella needs to be nabbed soon. She has done a lot of damage.
Another great story! I think Sky is my favorite. Lucky Lauren to catch him. Have to say this story had my heart pounding towards the end. Can't wait for the end of Stella...
Fun, fast-paced read with likable characters who sizzle. I wouldn't necessarily say cowboys are my thing, but I enjoyed Sky and his brothers so much that I got the other books in the series to read.
Yet another summer/beach read. If you are interested in western/romance books with a side of murder mystery and mayhem, these are sure to fit the bill for you.
