The Shelter #1

The Shelter: Book 1, The Beginning

Rate this book
January 2022 NEW, edited and updated version. (Formatting, spelling and grammar corrections made, plus some new material added) Please note, this is a politically incorrect story. It bashes the current administration. Irony is winning the Powerball lottery six months before the world's economies meltdown. The Shelter tells the story of a family who wins $27 million in the lottery, they pull roots and move to Nashville where they buy a large home bordered by three farms. With the money in hand the world's economies in the process of melting down. They 'buy the farm.' They purchase the three farms and the 7,000 square foot house. The farms are able to provide food when the economies collapse. The house is large enough to hold all of their extended family. To ensure their survival, Jay decides to build a large shelter under the farmland. Jay befriends the local Mafia 'Don', Tony, who helps him in exchange for a ticket in the shelter. Book one tells the story of Jay and Lacy, winning the lottery, their move to Nashville, buying the farms and building the shelter while the world goes to hell around them. The world starts to melt down when the people of Greece elect a new Prime Minister, who defaults on their loans to Germany. The EU falls apart when the other European Nations follow Greece's lead. China demands payment of its debt from America or the state of Hawaii. The President increases taxes to raise the $1.4 trillion needed to pay China back, putting enormous stress on the American economy. Russia adds gasoline to the fire by dumping their dollars. Russia helps destabilize the EU so they can invade by offering humanitarian aid. When the American economy collapses, distribution of food stops, starvation becomes a real problem. The cities explode in violence due to the lack of food and clean water. As the insanity spreads, Jay builds a shelter complex to house over 40 people for more than a year without surfacing. A shelter, he thinks, is an insurance policy, one he hopes he'll never have to use. A shelter complex he and his neighbors, need in order to survive an invasion of their farms. All of their winnings are worthless when the only real currency is a loaf of bread and a bottle of clean water. There's a special sneak preview of my next book, "In the Year 2050. America's Religious Civil War" included at the end of the "The Shelter."

The book starts with a massive info dump about economic failure that is like a lecture, without any spaces or paragraphs. It goes on about Greek elections, financial bailouts and the thoughts of EU leaders on the financial crisis. It was a bit full on as a way to start a book even if this stuff interested you. The anti-Europe tone of the book is a great way to alienate all non American readers and some of it really annoyed me. It refers to Europeans as 'many in Europe never even try to find work, they're happy living on the government dole'. Nonsense. While every country has the people on welfare who don't want to work, many really are too sick to work and there are tons of hardworking Europeans in each country. Is the author forgeting the welfare claimants in his own country? The dope smoking beer drinkers who sit about all day? It is this superior attitude towards other countries that makes America unpopular overseas.

Then we have the revolting MCs and their snotty attitudes and sneering lectures. The Greeks are 'spoiled children' voting for a Marxist leader. The Greek leader is scum of the Earth for insulting Germans by laying flowers on a war memorial. It seems what he is really doing is reminding the Germans of their war crimes. Jeez. By the time they go on to rant about Russia having proof that NATO forces are fighting them in Ukraine, I had enough of this bile.

I expect a certain amount of political bias in prepper books as I've read a ton of them but I rarely quit a book because of it. The unpleasant rantings and anti-European bias was not entertaining and I certainly won't be reading this author again.

Amazing story that I couldn't put down and wanted more! I loved everything about it, the story line, his writing, the survival tips, everything. The Shelter series is my favorite, even though all of his books are great.

Not my cup of tea...

Could not finish this book...did not like the style of writing nor the obvious political bashing going on through out. Yes everyone has freedom of speech and their own opinions. That's Americans. However, I choose not to read political bias. Glad I didn't have to pay for this...

The Shelter bk1 the Beginning

I loved that this book contains current information and issues in our country. It covers a good many possibilities in a realistic manner. The only downfall with this book is some of the editing issues.
If your looking for some dystopian that is realistic and covers current 'conspiracy theories' than you should read this book!

A bit unbelievable, but keeps you reading

What if you won the jackpot lottery just as the United States was going to pot.? Good story plot, quite liberal, but thats politics today. The winnner does seem a bit to knowledgable and connected for an ordinary guy, but the story keeps you going amd wanting to know more.

Pretty good.

Good storyline, but written in first person, then third person, back and forth, ruined the flow when reading. Does project our current financial situation into pretty likely scenarios, with escalating reaction from Obama exasperating situations. Shows that even having won the lottery, prepping and joining up with new friends never covers every contingency.

This is so real it's freaky!

Hold onto your hats, this has been written in our time, about what's coming our way if things don't change drastically! If the sheeple don't open their eyes we're all gonners. This is more fact than fiction and will make your skin crawl it's so real.

Great teriyaki book

Author decidedly does not like Obama. Interesting speculations. Financial downfall is a real concern. I wish he could offer solutions to the crisis.
