Forever, Texas #14

Her Mistletoe Cowboy

Rate this book
Second Chance Ranch with First-Rate Cowboy

Kimberly Lee isn't sure what she'll find when she comes to Forever, Texas, to do a story on a groundbreaking program that could put this small town on the map. It certainly isn't the warm, friendly community that makes the roving reporter feel instantly at home. Or the accident that lays her up at Garrett White Eagle's ranch, where the blue-eyed rancher awakens feelings she long ago gave up.

Giving people hope again is the goal of the healing ranch Garrett started with his brother. And the lovely, hardworking writer is no exception. Doesn't Kim realize how much good they can do—together? Her future is here with him. If she's willing to trust in a love that could fulfill the promise of forever.

Marie Rydzynski-Ferrarella
aka Marie Charles, Marie Michael, Marie Nicole, Marie Ferrarella

Marie Rydzynski was born on March 28 in West Germany to Polish parents. She moved to America at the age of four. For an entire year, Marie and her family explored the eastern half of the country before finally settling in New York.

Marie swears she was born writing, "which must have made the delivery especially hard for my mother." From an early age, Marie's parents would find her watching television or tucked away in some private place, writing at a furious pace. "Initially, I began writing myself into my favourite shows. I was a detective on '77 Sunset Strip,' the missing Cartwright sibling they never talked about on 'Bonanza' and the 'Girl from U.N.C.L.E.' before there was a 'Girl from U.N.C.L.E.,' not to mention an active participant in the serialized stories of 'The Mickey Mouse Club.'" Marie began to write her first romance novel when she was 11 years old, although she claims that, at the time, she didn't even realize it was a romance! She scribbled off and on, while dreaming of a career as an actress.

Marie was only 14 when she first laid eyes on the man she would marry, truly her first love, Charles Ferrarella. During her days at Queens College, New York, acting started to lose its glamour as Marie spent more and more time writing. After receiving her English degree, specialising in Shakespearean comedy, Marie and her family moved to Southern California, where she still resides today.

After an interminable seven weeks apart, Charles decided he couldn't live without her and came out to California to marry his childhood sweetheart. Ever practical, Marie was married in a wash-and-wear wedding dress that she sewed herself, appliqués and all. "'Be prepared' has always been my motto,"the author jokes. This motto has been stretched considerably by her two children, Nikky and Jessi, "but basically, it still applies," she says.

In November of 1981, she sold her first novel for Harlequin. Marie, who now has written over 150 novels, has one goal: to entertain, to make people laugh and feel good. "That's what makes me happy," she confesses. "That, and a really good romantic evening with my husband." She's keeping her fingers crossed that her reader's enjoy reading her books as much as she enjoyed writing them.

So, I don't often finish Harlequin books. I tend to find them a bit insulting to women, but I keep trying because every once in a while, one of them turns out to be a true gem. This is not one of them, but it was fairly inoffensive.

City slicker journalist Kim Lee gets assigned a human interest piece for a magazine taking her to Forever, Texas, well, a ranch on the outskirts of town anyway where they rehabilitate wayward boys. Once there, she is escorted around by Garrett White Eagle and sparks fly.

...or at least they should, but this is a seriously bland romance novel. I never see any sexual tension surrounding them and they don't have any common ground. Every conversation is a battle to make the other understand their side of view and all that comes out of that is more evidence that they don't understand each other. It doesn't build tension or bridge gaps, it just shows that there is nothing between them.

Kim is jaded by a terrible family life and having grown up in the cold, unforgiving city of San Francisco. (I've been there, the people are nice, like anywhere else.) Garrett, on the other hand, is a great, down-to-earth guy to the point that he seemingly has no flaws, which really makes it hard to believe that he would be interested in a woman who is always looking for an angle or the greed, but this story is pretty simple: big city =evil and corruption, little town = perfection and loyalty.

On the other hand, whenever Kim mentions the Reservation everybody clams up, so I'm left to assume this town has something to hide there---and whatever it was, probably would have made a better story. Nothing ever comes of these conversations, though, so it's just filler, I assume to make Forever seem more rounded, but it doesn't. Add to that the conversations about the local native population always seems to border racism enough to make me squirm, but not enough to make me think it's something intentional on the author's part.

Then there's the title itself. Her Mistletoe Cowboy. Christmas doesn't even become a factor in the story until the last few chapters other than Kim occasionally realizing that she'll be celebrating alone, like always, because her family doesn't do anything together.

It's really just a bland book. There's nothing so bad that I put the book down, but some of the cliches came close, but there's nothing spectacular that you'd miss by not reading the book.

A nice simple Christmas story. I have not read any of Forever Texas series and thought it did a good job of standing alone. But it does let you catch up a little with a whole cast of characters.

Lots of drama with the main character Kimberly Lee. Kim at times she wines too much, does have a lot of pride, a loner and tries to see everyone's angles. She is from a Big City. She is a reporter.

Garrett White Eagle works with his brother Jackson to give troubled kids a second chance while working with horses. He stands in his brothers shadow. They are hard working and work well with the boys. His idea to have a reporter talk about their ranch so they can help more youth.

Forever, Texas is small town. Only one place to eat in town, one bar, motel ect. People are friendly and lookout for each other.

This is a nice fast read that leaves you feeling good. Their is a couple of love scenes I did skip over.
Would have loved to see and learn about more of the boys staying at the ranch.

I like to read Marie Ferrarella books.

I was given this book to read by NetGalley and Harlequin. In return I agreed to give a honest review of Her Mistletoe Cowboy.

I admire the brothers and the work they do with the troubled teens, the patience and kindness they show to everyone around them.
I liked the plot, I think the idea of the journalist coming to do the article was great, and an intriguing way to introduce the people involved and get more insights into the series, as well updates on the people before.
What I found hard to believe was the fact that Kim has never met a nice, kind, friendly, or giving person before. And the attitude she had, questioning every single effort to be nice to her, from everyone, got old really fast. No matter how jaded you are at the age of 28, what kind of family you come from, or what kind of city you live in, not having any kind of concept of true kindness, just honestly was annoying.
But despite the attitude Kim had, Garrett feels the attraction to her, they are drawn to each other, and with an effort and lots of work, Garrett goes after Kim's heart, hoping the town name and reputation will work once again, and give him a chance to have forever with Kim.
The story would have been really cute, and heartwarming, without Kim's constant negativity towards everything

Kimberly is sent to write a story on a ranch that helps rehabilitate troubled boys. Make them better part of the society with a 100% success rate. Thing is they are low on funds and a story on them could help generate some cash flow. Kimberly is skeptical that everything is as perfect as it seems so she must dig deep to see if everything is what it appears to be.

So the thing is as much as I liked it I wished that there was more to the book. I like short holiday books but I also like them packed with things to keep them interesting, drama and such. But this book there really much going on just a bunch of fluff which was still fun to read but I was hoping for more.

Beside that I liked that Kimberly was an interesting character, I liked that both Garrett and Kimberly's backstory was told to give a bit of depth to the characters. I liked the overall story but like Kimberly I was skeptical I was hoping for a bit of trouble when it came to the ranch to stir things up. I liked the connection between Garrett and like that there was multiple POV. I really liked this book it was sweet to read and good for the holidays.

Marie Ferrarella is one of the reigning queens of cowboy romances. I love her writing. I wish I could say I loved this story. This year, I haven't liked many of the holiday romances I've read and all for the same reason, I didn't like the heroine.

Kim isn't all bad, but she is so jaded that it makes her hard to like. When she comes to The Healing Ranch she really thinks the worst of Garrett and Jackson, even though they are doing something good. There is no way you can't like these two guys.

Kim professes to be a good journalist, or wants to be one, but she doesn't see the benefit of doing a feel good story. She wants to uncover something bad about The Healing Ranch and the men the run it.

Her attitude made it hard to figure out why Garrett would be attracted to her. Maybe that's why there wasn't a hint of romance between them until the book was more than half way through. It was very unnerving. I wanted a bit more romance to this book and it simply wasn't there. There wasn't much holiday either, so that was another disappointment for me.

I like my holiday books to be fun and lighthearted. Sadly this book missed the mark for me.

"Her Mistletoe Cowboy (Forever, Texas)" by Marie Ferrarella is a great story in the author's Forever series. It can be a read alone book but I do recommend the series. Kimberly Lee comes to Forever, TX to write an article on a ranch that deals with troubled boys. Garrett White Eagle teaches her to trust when she is skeptical about what the ranch is all about, and that his brother Jackson don't have other motives in taking money from people. Kim learns that the folks in Forever, a small town, are just who they say they are and she learns to trust along the way.

"Fans of the Forever, Texas series will enjoy seeing the second White Eagle brother find true love and happiness. Ferrarella does another splendid job here with the city-girl-meets-small-town-boy theme" (RT Book Reviews, 4 stars).

I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was an intriguing story, I really admired the brothers for what they were doing for the young people, trying to help them out. I think I would have liked this story a lot more if Kim wasn't so negative about people and the kind things they try to do for her. Other than that it's a good book.

This was my first Forever, Texas and i liked that it didn't hurt the story to not have read the first 13. I do know a little about the other characters from this read.

Thanks for writing.
