I'm quite surprised at how much I enjoyed this book! I saw it at the library and decided to check it out and see what the book was all about and loved it. It has great colored pictures with hilarious comments that are written from the point of view from the cat in the picture. This would be a perfect coffee table book or book in your guest room. Another reviewer on goodreads mentioned that this book is similar to Humans of New York, which I've heard about on Facebook but had no idea it was a book. Let alone written in the format of this book. So I just put that one on hold at the library. Can't wait to read that one too. I also had no idea Felines of New York was a website until I read that in the back of the book so right now while writing this I am also checking out that hilarious website.

Very adorable, with lots of cute pictures of various cats in their habitats. Warning-- not for children. The cats talk as cats probably would if they could, and do cuss sometimes.

A must-read for cat lovers

This was a cute book. The photography was excellent and their lines were funny I was disappointed because I wanted to know more about each cat. Most were indoor cats, but there were some outside that I assume were strays and I want to know if the author tried to help them or just took photos.

Cute as far as the little interviews with each of the kitties, and I also did like the pictures. However, the reason why I'm taking off stars is because of the language. I felt it was very unreasonable and useless to add in several strong swear words. They felt random and were completely pointless.

Fun idea, decent execution. Probably funnier if you know NYC and understand the stereotypes. A few of the commentaries were spot on.

I am not familiar with the blog, but I heard it was humorously based on Humans of New York. It's a mixed bag for me. My first impression was finding myself underwhelmed with the almost boring and amateur seeming photos and lame "interviews" with the cats. It didn't help that I had just seen the gorgeous photos from Curious Cats, and these just don't compare. Coming back to it a week later, I could appreciate its strengths better and see more why it's popular. The premise is cool, and the photographer goes around getting pictures of all sorts of cats on their own turf, so these cats are not models, and the settings are not studio-perfect or carefully staged. That's where the pictures can seem amateurish with the sometimes distracting clutter of the background. The photos are of the cats, but the shots of the different cats have a similar look to them (either just sitting or lying and staring wide-eyed at the camera). Only a few shots are interesting enough to warrant a longer look at. The quotes and snippets of interviews are mercifully short, but they all have the same ironic tone. A few are actually LOL funny and clever, and some make thoughtful observations. Not a bad read.

How to convince the husband to get a cat.
Step one: buy book filled with cute cat pictures.
Step two: send hubby pictures of cats periodically. Make sure he reads the book.
Step three: pray.
Im going to be completely honest here. No shame. I ordered this book to stare at cat pictures. It was cheap, and worth it. I love cats and anything to do with them. Plus, Humans Of New York has become one of my favorite books. This book is basically filled with pictures of cats with quotes next to them. The quotes are humorous and done in a Humans Of New York style. Definitely worth a read. If only for the cats.

Are you familiar with Humans of New York? Good. This is not Humans of New York, but it takes that concept and applies it to random cats.
In that respect, it is quite cleaver. You get the kind of dialogues you would expect a cat to have, if a cat could talk, done in the style of the "confessions" that peole have in Humans of New York. It is just long enough that you don't get sick of it.
Not sure if it is quite as funny if you aren't familiar with Humans of New York, which you should also read, and I will review once my book arrives.

Pictures with silly captions, supposedly uttered by the cats in an interview. It was cute and funny. If you like cats and want to know what they'd say if they could talk, you'd probably like this.
My favorite is probably Tanooki's:

Ranges from mildly amusing to LOL. The photos are enjoyable and many capture the felines' personalities, although you can tell from the large eyes with big pupils that most cats were a bit freaked out about this stranger getting too close and pointing something at them. Very creative 'conversations'--I can't help wondering if the author/photographer got some of the cats' histories from their humans.
Well worth browsing or perhaps devouring (depending on your sense of humor) for all cat fans.

So, I got this for like .74. Yeah. I would have gladly paid twice as much.
I love this book, not just for the pictures. I mean, I have my own cats. I can look at them all I want at home (ostensibly) for free. The text makes this book fabulous--it's self-absorbed, just this side of obnoxious--just so perfectly cat like.

This book is HILARIOUS. It has totally captured the tone of the interviews of Humans of New York and matched them with gorgeous photos of cats. Give this to you cat fancier friends. I guarantee they will love it.

What an absolutely charming book! The author Jim Tews is definitely marriage material! I didn't expect such a book from a man - I thought it was a female author. I love that the book is dedicated to all the cats of the world - and that the author does their bidding now. That's the sort of spell that cats cast on you.

I LOVED this book! The author, Jim Tews, “interviews” cats who reside throughout NYC and provides very nice quality color photos of each. Tews is a comedian, so the short snippets from the interviews that accompany the photos are delightfully wry and clever while perfectly capturing the essence of the feline spirit. I thoroughly enjoyed every one of them. This is a book that any cat lover will smile and laugh their way through. Definitely five stars!

I loved Humans of New York, but this is a funny and freakin' adorable take on that concept. Some of the cats were sweet, some snarky. My favorite had to be Sheba from the Lower East Side. "You ever hear of the Canary Islands? I'm going there when I get out. Just a sunny island with a shit ton of birds. What a goddamn dream." :D

Thoroughly entertaining spoof of the "Humans of New York" website and books. Because these are New York cats, the author has given them New York voices, which means the language is sometimes PG-13. It's never vulgar though, and the humor makes it clear that the author knows his cats!

At first I didn't think I'd like the book. But about 15 pages in I started to giggle at the text. This was SO funny! If you like cats, pictures of cats, and cats describing their lives, then you must read this book.
