While investigating the mysterious deaths of Edith Myer's family, Quin is summoned once more to help Cara and the other Freak House residents. But their reunion is cut short by the return of Everett Myer through the portal, and the man he brings with him - Quin's nemesis: Edward de Mordaunt.

With Myer and de Mordaunt intent on their scheme, Cara and Quin must untangle years of secrets to get to the truth. Meanwhile, Cara is determined not to let her warrior go, no matter the cost to herself.

As questions are finally answered, and long-held secrets revealed, will they ever be together? Or must they wait until Cara joins Quin in the afterlife, which could be sooner than they think.

BRAVO, C.J. Archer!!

My Soul To Take is book 3 in the 3rd Freak House Trilogy.

And here we have another mesmerising story in the Freak House trilogy. Sadly though this was the last instalment in the Freak House trilogies.

Cara and Quin are still the focus and are wonderful main characters to tag along with and we are also fortunate as other characters and family members we have grown to love from the previous books play an active role.
I appreciate the relationships making headway and absolutely love the happy ever afters of each book, leaving me with a happy, contented feeling. And this being the last book the reader will not be disappointed with My Soul To Take as everything fits together and is wrapped up beautifully.

We have portals, other worldly realms, mediums, ghosts and demons.

And delightful heroes and heroines who are beautiful, courageous and resilient, and needless to say, the villains are terrifying, conniving, cowardly and devilish…what’s not to like. LOL. Well, it’s everything you could want in your paranormal romance books.

Nine books in the Freak House series, in sets of three, however I recommend starting with the Emily Chambers Spirit Medium trilogy as Emily and family members make appearances in most of the Freak House books. So, all up 12 books. If Victorian historical romance and paranormal is your thing you will love these 12 spellbinding books.

Archer loves to throw in a love triangle that isn't really sincere (Nathaniel wasn't much of a risk to Cara and Quin just like Charity didn't really pose a threat to Jack and Hannah) but that complication does add to the enjoyment of the plot in this third story. First of all, I have to acknowledge the spectacular cover art for this trilogy and especially this final installment. And secondly, the story was great! It was a little iffy near the end with the escape into the demon world, but honestly, with the impossibility of Cara and Quin ever being together, it was mostly just a relief that the story was able to end on a positive note. I just love all the characters in this story, namely the five main couples who have taken up so much space in my brain these last few weeks.

So emotionally amazing!

CJ Archer has won me over again! I have read nearly every one of her books and was not disappointed. You can’t stop with one book. Each story blends into the next forming a unique family, so you don’t loose any of the characters. The stories have no dull moments, only joy, anxiety, and at times, lots of tears, mostly happy ones. If paranormal is your thing, I promise you won’t be able to put any of her books down. Do read them in order as they are one continuous story of how love conquers all!

4 out of 5 stars – A captivating supernatural mystery with compelling leads

My Soul to Take delivers a rich blend of paranormal intrigue, historical setting, and slow-burn romance that makes it hard to put down. C.J. Archer introduces readers to a vivid world where ghosts linger and secrets abound, all centered around the strong yet vulnerable Cara Moreau and the enigmatic Captain Kynan Quinn.

Cara is a refreshingly capable heroine. After surviving a traumatic past she can’t fully remember, she’s thrust into a strange new life where the dead seek her help—and sometimes revenge. Her resilience and sharp instincts make her easy to root for, especially as she tries to uncover the truth about her own soul and its mysterious state. She’s not the damsel in distress type, and her bravery is matched by a genuine sense of compassion.

Quinn is a perfect counterbalance: cool, guarded, and fiercely protective. As a man cursed with a dangerous ability of his own, his connection to Cara is layered and electric. Their dynamic is one of the novel’s greatest strengths—full of tension, trust-building, and moments of vulnerability that feel earned rather than rushed. Their interactions strike a great balance between witty and emotional, adding depth to both characters as their bond deepens.

Though the plot occasionally leans on familiar genre tropes, the chemistry between Cara and Quinn keeps the story fresh and engaging. The mystery unfolds at a satisfying pace, with enough twists to keep you guessing, and the world of ghosts, curses, and hidden power is both eerie and imaginative.

Overall, My Soul to Take is a strong start to what promises to be an addictive series—especially for readers who love gothic romance and supernatural suspense with strong character development.

I really enjoyed reading this book. This is the last edition of the Freak House series (aside from the story of Hannah and Jack's honeymoon you get as a subscriber to the author's newsletter). It has it's ups and downs...and ends in a classically idyllic fashion that seems to be the only time throughout most of this series that seems to touch base with it's victorian roots. If you enjoy book that tell of mediums, ghosts, demons and enjoy all around happy endings, you'll enjoy this book.

Cara and Quin are great characters to follow. I enjoyed the conclusion to their story. The ending also brought in the characters from the other Freak House series. I just wish the conclusion was a little longer. I enjoyed the ending, I just wanted a little more before saying goodbye to the characters.

The plot was all over the place, but lot of the questions I have had throughout the series are finally answered. And I got more Sylvia and Tommy so I was happy about that.

I really liked this triology, probably a bit more than the first one in the freak house series even (of course, surpassing the second trilogy is no big feat). But there was still something lacking that would put it to a four-star read for me.

Adventure and Anxiety

Fantasy and Ferocity! You never really know what to expect from the perils of living so close to a portal to other worlds and realms. However the characters are marvelous.

Really predictable, but still satisfying. And I can't help but root for other brazen women to both get what they want out of life as well as own their sexuality. So I am 100% in favor of those elements.

This third and final book in the 3rd Freak House trilogy is everything I could have wished for and more. Taking storylines from not only the first two books in this trilogy, but threads woven throughout all the Freak House books, C.J. Archer manages to tie everything together and bring it all to a very satifsying and magnificant conclusion.

Although I loved each and every main character from the Freak House books, Cara holds a special place in my heart. I love her defiance of, or lack of concern for, convention. She is a strong and willful character who isn't afraid to speak her own mind or go boldly wherever she needs to go, with little heed to her own safety. She'll do anything for those she loves. She has always seemed to live a bit outside the realms of the social circles the other characters inhabit and I admire her cavalier and solitary nature.

This book is a wonderful example of how well trilogies can work and the author has these down to a science without being repititious, formulaic or boring. How she manages to weave so many characters, major and minor, and enticing storylines throughout so many books and keep them all intense and exciting is a major feat. This book, and her many worlds, are well worth the time spent in them.

The End of the Freak House Trilogies

And what a beautiful ending to an absolutely fantastic series of 3, 3 book stories! From the very beginning book to the last you find yourself enraptured by the ongoing stories of all the characters you meet along the way. These stories are intriguing, romantic, thrilling and take place in and around London in the late 1800's adding to all that they are steeped in the supernatural! I don't think you can find a
better written series, I loved each and every one of them.
Though I purchased all mine individually, these nine books are coming out in a bundle in February 2016 don't miss your chance to snap them up, you will not be disappointed!
Sincerely a C.J. Archer fan forever..Merrilyn
