Sweet story!
I absolutely loved this book. It was cute, entertaining and exactly what I wanted from a summer camp story. I enjoyed all the books in the Maple Hollow universe and hope that there will be more. It was a wonderful summer read! The author duo does not disappoint.

The spin off that I never knew I needed. This was a really cute, low angst, spicy romcom. Witches who hate men, at a summer camp, falling in love - SO MUCH FUN! Add in some confidence issues, pining and jealousy and you’ve got the recipe for the perfect potion!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book. Here is my honest review:
I had so much fun reading this book. The witchy summer camp vibes were immaculate. I want to move there immediately.
I also loved Gwen’s somewhat inconvenient powers—whenever she experiences an emotion she accidentally transforms something nearby into an amphibian, and it just made me laugh every single time.
I would have liked to see a bit more relationship development between Gwen and Sabine, just so their relationship was on the page more. A lot of time was given to the summer camp activities, so sometimes their relationship felt a little rushed.
This book was so much fun and I had a delightful time reading it!

I had such a fun time with this one!
The premise alone sold me—a witch summer camp? Say less. The cozy camp setting, magical competitions, supernatural community, and all the witchy vibes had me ready for spooky season immediately.
The biggest standout for me was Gwen. Her internal monologue had me laughing from the very first chapter, and she brought so much humor and heart to the story. I also loved watching her find not only romance but friendship, confidence, and a place where she truly belonged. Sabine's journey was much quieter, but seeing her slowly question the future she'd always planned for herself made for a really satisfying character arc.
The romance was sweet, the chemistry felt earned, and I appreciated that the relationship developed through friendship and shared experiences rather than rushing straight into love.
My biggest critique is the pacing through the middle. Around the middle third, I started feeling like the story was spinning its wheels a little. Some of the emotional conflict felt repetitive, and I found myself wanting a bit more forward momentum. Once the external conflict picked up again, I was fully invested and really enjoyed the final stretch.

“What’s one more year?”
This was so cozy and comforting. Summer camp for adult witches. Such an easy read. The mean girl vibes, the tension between main characters. Summer camp games between the other two camps. Magic archery 🙌🏻. Turning annoying ex boyfriends into toads. This has it all. Had me cackling. And the sweetest ending iykyk. Once again, in love with this series, and these authors.

This is such a cute and fun romance! I really enjoyed both the romance as well as the friendships built, the parents development and of course being back in Maple Hollow.

I absolutely loved the first two books in the Maple Hollow Series, and I was thrilled when this novella was announced. Naturally, my expectations were quite high, and I hoped it would give me the same fun, cozy, romantic vibes and a whimsical plot as the first two books. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations.
The first pages had me laughing and I really felt the magic of stepping back into this world. I love that Sabine is Iris's sister as a tie in with the first two books. Gwen and Sabine are both reluctant campers, which I thought was a brilliant way to get them to bond. However, said bond seemed mostly driven by lust. Now, this is a novella, so I did expect it to be insta-lovey and I am not against insta-lust either. That being said, I just needed more depth than them going to town with each other.
To me, it seemed like we spent more time watching them pine over each other and nurturing their heartbreaks than we saw them falling in love. The intensity of their attachment seemed to come out of nowhere, and no matter how often Sabine stresses she mourns what could have been rather that what has been, I just didn't see them actually falling in love enough to feel them. It was just lust.
This might be enough for some people, but I'm asexual, and I just need more of that emotional connection.
The only time I truly felt giddy was when Ramona showed up to kiss Iris, which is a shame in a book that isn't about Iris.
The plot does make sense and the conflict feels realistic, but I was missing the emotional dimension to truly be invested. The ending felt a little rushed with all the storylines being wrapped up within a few pages. I would have loved to see a bigger reunion after Gwen and Sabine spent so much time apart. The jump to the HEA in the epilogue felt quite jarring then, although that is in line with the grand gesture in the epilogue of Pumpkin Spice & Poltergeist.
As for the supporting characters, obviously I love Iris, but Faith as Gwen's bestie had so much potential that I wish would have been explored more in depth. I loved their instant friendship and I did enjoy Gwen realizing that Faith was a real friend for longer than the camp would last, but once again, I just couldn't get invested in their relationship. At face value, the friendship and community Gwen built with her cabin is adorable, but most of them were nameless, faceless characters (fair--no one would keep up with a friendship group that big) and they spent so little actual bonding time on page (and when they did, it was kind of rushed) that it was hard to care about them.
Overall, even though the story deals with themes of community and realizing where you belong that I usually enjoy a lot, the execution wasn't to my taste this time. I would have loved to see more romance and emotional bonding time over reading them wallow in self-pity that they broke up. Feel the love, and not just the heartbreak.
That being said, I am still very much looking forward to Lycans and Lattees and hope to get lost in the Maple Hollow magic then, and I do think this book is worth checking out for fans of the series.

Cauldrons & Campfires is a standalone novel in the Maple Hollows universe by Ali K. Mulford and K. Elle Morrison. This summer camp new adult romance has longing, spice, and minimal angst.
Gwen only found out she was a witch when she accidentally turned her ex-boyfriend into a frog. Sabine has grown up in her witchy small town, attending a witchy summer camp, and she is ready to venture out to someplace where everyone doesn't know all of her personal business. The two meet during Sabine's last year at camp, and Gwen's first. It's pretty insta-love for them, and they have decent chemistry. There is a mean girl, camper camaraderie, intercamp competition, new besties, late-night rendezvous, an all-knowing camp director, and, of course, magical friendship bracelets.
There is a breakup with good intentions and a sweet, satisfying end. Both main characters show some growth throughout this whimsical story.
The cozy atmosphere was my favorite part.
This is marketed as a romcom, and I laughed a little. These are two of my favorite laugh-out-loud quotes:

Not very long but filled with magic, the story of two characters that meet each other under almost perfect circumstances. It was exactly what it says it is, a witchy and cozy rom-com between Gwen and Sabine. If you ever watched Halloweentown, then this gives me strong vibes.
At first, I imagined Gwen would be a grumpy cat that had to suddenly change her life despite her wants and needs. But nothing could be further from the truth. She’s a sweet person who just up to this point hasn't had a loving community of people surrounding her (besides her parents). She finds that by going to the witchy summer camp. There she meets new friends and this one girl who becomes extra special for her.
Sabine is an almost fully established witch who was raised in this paranormal world of covens and other creatures like werewolves and vampires. But what she truly wanted is to finish her last year at the camp and then finally see the rest of the world. When she meets Gwen, she’s immediately drawn to her since this newcomer is an adorable and pleasant surprise in Sabine’s life.
Step by step they are drawn to each other. They try to fight their attraction but end up sneaking away to spend some romantic time together, away from prying eyes.
I liked both characters, more Sabine than Gwen since my expectations of the latter weren’t actually met. I think I’d like Gwen more if she had a stronger, fiercer character. Low angst and full of sweetness is how I’d describe their connection.
In the end though, this book wasn’t really for me. At least not now. Maybe I’m too old but sometimes I felt like the story was too “childish”. I also didn’t fully understood why Gwen would be mad about Sabine wanting to leave. And the ending also left me a bit puzzled as to why they couldn’t spend some time in NYC and then come back to Maple Hollow together.
Finally, Faith is a real one and I’d love to have a friend like her.

Firstly, I loved the dedication at the beginning: "Dedicated to all the sapphics whose gay awakening was the duffel bag girl from The Parent Trap." That immediately told me I was in for a fun, light-hearted romance ✨
The story follows the dual perspectives of Gwen and Sabine at an idyllic summer camp where witches come to hone their craft. Gwen is a city girl experiencing camp life for the first time, while Sabine is one of the camp counsellors.
Although the characters are in their early twenties, the overall tone has a quite youthful feel, which suits the camp setting. There are plenty of activities, summer games, and magic throughout. I would have happily read even more of Gwen's magical lessons on the page too.
I really enjoyed the instant camaraderie and attraction between Gwen and Sabine. Their relationship develops naturally from friendship over the course of the summer, with plenty of 'will they, won't they' moments. A literal storm, alongside all that built-up romantic tension, eventually leads to kisses, secret dates, and some spicy moments 💋🔥🌶
Minor spoiler ahead...
The story also includes misunderstandings and a third-act break-up. While that particular trope isn't usually my favourite, I know many readers enjoy the added angst and conflict. The book does end on a happy-for-now note, which I like!

This is a cute and sweet sapphic summer read. Gwen has just found out for the first time that she has witch powers, when she turns her soon to be ex-boyfriend into a toad. Her mother then proceeds to tell her that she is also a witch, but moved away from the quaint little witchy town she grew up in, because they wouldn't have been very accepting of her husband, Gwen's Dad.
Minor Spoilers Ahead:
Gwen Morales arrives at Man-Hating Witches' Summer Camp aka Upstanding Witches' Summer Camp to find a bunch of 18-22 year old witches that are, for the most part, into other witches.
Sabine Stonewood grew up in Maple Grove and this is her second year as a camp councilor, because she was caught hooking up with too many campers her first year as a camp councilor. So, she's sworn off hook-ups for the whole summer in order to not return the following year, and still be a member of the coven.
Sabine was well on her way to no-hook-ups when Gwen arrived and changed everything for her. Then she's starting to rethink her decision to move to New York as soon as possible.

This is a cute and sweet sapphic summer read. Gwen has just found out for the first time that she has witch powers, when she turns her soon to be ex-boyfriend into a toad. Her mother then proceeds to tell her that she is also a witch, but moved away from the quaint little witchy town she grew up in, because they wouldn't have been very accepting of her husband, Gwen's Dad.
Minor Spoilers Ahead:
Gwen Morales arrives at Man-Hating Witches' Summer Camp aka Upstanding Witches' Summer Camp to find a bunch of 18-22 year old witches that are, for the most part, into other witches.
Sabine Stonewood grew up in Maple Grove and this is her second year as a camp councilor, because she was caught hooking up with too many campers her first year as a camp councilor. So, she's sworn off hook-ups for the whole summer in order to not return the following year, and still be a member of the coven.
Sabine was well on her way to no-hook-ups when Gwen arrived and changed everything for her. Then she's starting to rethink her decision to move to New York as soon as possible.
This book is a perfect combination of Wet Hot American Summer, The Parent Trap, and Practical Magic. It was such a fun a Cozy Fantasy read for the summer.

Cauldrons & Campfire by Ali K. Mulford and K. Elle Morrison Rating: ★★★★☆ (3.5 stars, rounded up)
“Summer Camp for Man-Hating Witches”
This was only my second sapphic romance, and honestly, I really enjoyed it. It is not my typical read, but I liked that it pulled me out of my comfort zone in a way that felt cozy, low-stakes, and fun. It definitely helped that K. Elle Morrison co-wrote this, since I already knew her work from Princes Of Sin Omnibus: The Seven Deadly Sins Series, which was my first physical BookTok-style book purchase and is still one of the prettiest omnibuses on my shelf.
Cauldrons & Campfire is not an earth-shattering read that will change your life, but it is a sweet summer romance with witchy vibes, camp nostalgia, and moments that are genuinely funny. Gwen and Sabine had very different energies, and I liked the way the camp setting let their connection build through stolen moments, friendship, and magical chaos.
Because this is not my usual romance style, I do think that impacted my reading experience. I was never uncomfortable, just unfamiliar at times, occasionally thinking, “Oh, that's interesting.” Some parts also could have used a bit more emotional depth, but overall, this was a good, cozy story.

Look, I don’t have time to keep reading books that are merely fine when my TBR is out here behaving like a part-time job.
This was cute.
Not “cancel my plans and tell everyone I know about it” cute.
Just…cute.
The story follows Gwen, who finds herself at a magical summer camp where she meets Sabine, a witch who is very pretty and very inconvenient for her emotional wellbeing. Throw in covens, creatures, camp activities and a healthy amount of longing and you’ve basically got witchy summer camp romance vibes.
Honestly - The vibes carried this book for me.
The camp setting was adorable and gave serious Halloweentown energy. I actually think I enjoyed watching Gwen find friendship and community almost more than the romance itself.
Unfortunately the romance felt a little instalove for me. It often felt less like “watching two people fall in love” and more like “watching two people realise they are both extremely attractive.”
Which, fair.
But I wanted more depth before the emotional devastation arrived.
Maybe this is because I’m approximately 147 years old in YA years, but parts of the dialogue and internal thoughts felt a little young for me and I caught myself rolling my eyes once or twice.
I also haven’t read the other books in this universe and honestly didn’t feel lost at all, so if you’re worried about jumping in late - you’ll be fine.
Overall…
A cozy, witchy, sapphic summer romance with immaculate autumn vibes, a sprinkle of magic and enough charm to keep me reading.

My thoughts whilst reading:
I was so bored with riftborne, so I dnf’d it 80 pages in, lol.
Instead, let’s have some cosy, queer, chaos with a sapphic, witchy, romcom set at a magical summer camp, deep in the woods!
And it’s set in the same world as their Maple Hollow series, which I adore cause their short, snappy, and so much sapphic goodness.
Reminds me of Percy Jackson, lol. Dammit, you just found out you’re a witch? Off to summer camp you go!
Ah okay, so of our mains, Gwen is a half-witch who just found out she has magic, and Sabine is the younger sister of Iris (of the Maple Hollow series).
And timeline wise, this is set in between “pumpkin spice and poltergeist” and “curses and cold brew”.
Lesbian and bisexual main characters, and plenty more sapphic and non-binary representation in the side characters!
The shenanigans, and the bonding, the romance, and the spice are delicious!
But they both want different things… one desperately seeking community and a place to put down roots, the other seeking to break free of the people and places that she’s been surrounded by all her life…
But they’ve found their way back to each other, to Maple Hollow, and SCUW (summer camp for upstanding - man hating - witches).
I assume the next book in the series will move on to another couple, like the Maple Hollow books have been doing.
And I will very happily read it when it does!

This is my first post on this account in 3+ years! A lot has happened since then, which I'll get into another time. It's good to be back and enjoying books again, including Cauldrons & Campfires by @mulfordandmorrison! This may include minor spoilers.
Last year, I read the first two books in the Maple Hollow series and absolutely adored them, so I was really excited to receive an ARC from the authors. It follows Sabine, a witch born and raised in Maple Hollow and longing to get out, and Gwen, who doesn't learn she's a witch until she accidentally turns her ex into a toad. They meet at a camp for witches and quickly fall for each other despite heading in two very different directions in life. Their relationship moved quickly as is the nature with summer camp romances, but it was evident that they genuinely cared about each other.
It was fun seeing Gwen both grow and gain confidence in both herself and her magic. On the other hand, Sabine has to go through a bit of a humbling and the realization that sometimes the grass isn’t greener. Even minor characters, such as Gwen’s mom and coven leader Dagmar, have compelling character growth.
I recently marathoned the first three seasons of Yellowjackets, so Cauldrons & Campfires was the perfect palate cleanser. It was cozy, whimsical, and made me nostalgic for a summer camp that I’ve never even been to. I can’t recommend it enough!

Now, for the sake of accuracy, one of the FMCs is pansexual, but like do we ever really know what’s going to fly out of my mouth? This one felt like it was novella length because I enjoyed myself so much! I was looking for a cozy contemporary with a little magic and spice and this just hit the spot perfectly! Don’t let “summer camp” fool you, everyone is an adult in this one! Pick this up if you’re a Legends & Lattes fan! 🍃

I really love the Maple Hollow setting and worldbuilding and cosy, witchy atmosphere, but once again just felt a lot lacking from these authors.
I'm not sure if it was the setting, the prose, the weird immaturity of the side characters, but this really felt like it was meant to be young adult but the characters were aged up so they could have spicy scenes. And that was all the relationship was; having the hots for each other, then spice, then a random break up when they hadn’t even talked about what their relationship was. There was no emotional build up, not enough depth to the characters and far too much telling rather than showing in regards to their individual arcs and together.
Gwen feels like an outsider, but we really never get a sense of that in her before life and there's not enough development between her and her cabin mates to show how she no longer feels like an outsider. The same with Sabine - she wants to leave her small town, but we're not shown why, just told that.
This book was told in dual pov 1st person and I often struggled to remember whose head we were in. I think a lot of the depth I was missing could have been resolved in this was a solo pov from Gwen, giving us more time to really get to know her and develop her relationship with Sabine.
This is a quick and easy read if you are looking for something fun to pass the time.

I really enjoyed the characters in this story. Gwen‘s search for belonging is relatable for anyone who ever had to start over in an unfamiliar place, and I really connected with Sabine‘s desire to stay both where she is known and loved and to also go out on her own adventure. Their romance had some insta-attraction that successfully developed into a genuine affection and a well-composed relationship.
I do wish that there was some more plot progression to really drive the character development home - a few additional chapters could have filled in some of the gaps BUT that is a critique that would take this book from great to S-Tier.

GODDESS! This fricken Halloween town gets me all in my feels every damn time!!
I was super fortunate to receive an ARC of this from these two amazing women and unfortunately life got in the way… I am just now posting and sincerely hope all my paranormal rom com lovers get on this!!
Maple Hollow is the perfect wet dream for a Halloween lover like myself. It is full of paranormal creatures who live under the nose of the normie human’s. (Like in plain sight)
This book specifically focuses on the Witch Summer camp that all the baby witches go to, to learn how to control their powers. (Like turning AWFUL exes into Toads)
Gwen is a half witch who finds out that her homage has been kept from her for her whole life and Sabine is a witch who has lost her love for all things spooky. Together they are perfect. This is definitely a novel full of character development and a tumultuous relationship between both FMCs. They both have different goals in life and have to come together to be able to find common ground and love???

I’ll preface by saying that I’m not typically a YA reader, but obsessed with Maple Hallow and will continue to read any sapphic story that comes out of this universe. That said, there were several points of this story that felt pretty young to me and I caught myself rolling my eyes a few times at different internal thoughts or one liners. The romance felt a little insta-love and I would have really appreciated seeing it get a little more developed(I know we’re working within the constraints of summer camp here, but still). The tone is definitely different from the other two Maple Hallow books, which I contribute to it being a bit younger.
All things considered, I still really enjoyed this novel and loved getting to see Gwen come into her own and find community for the first time. I actually think I enjoyed watching her friendships develop a little more than the romance.
Getting little glimpses back to Iris and Jordyn from the first two Maple Hallow books was a sweet bonus. I loved seeing that!
Would read the next book in this series provided that it’s still sapphic :)

This was such a cute and cozy sapphic rom-com!! I loved it! It's a quick read that will give you all the nostalgic summer camp feels. I need a collection of friendship bracelets, preferably embued with witchy spells, ASAP!
Gwen and Sabine notice each other right away and it's lust-at-first-sight, but according to camp rules they can't take it any further than that! Gwen is a first year camper brand new to the world of witches and Sabine is a camp counselor trying to complete her last summer at camp.
Their relationship and their friendships all felt so authentic. The platonic and romantic feelings between these fabulous female characters was palpable!
Some of our favorite Maple Hollow characters pop up here and there too, which was fun! You don't need to read that series first to read this, but reading it will allow you to appreciate these character mentions and cameos.
This really is the perfect summer read. It's low-key, no stress, and perfect to pick up by the pool, beach, or lake!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of this book, and I was thrilled to dive back into this world. This spin-off filled a void I've felt ever since finishing the first two books in the series.
As always, the story is sweet, charming, and full of heart. It gives the characters room to grow both as individuals and in their relationships with one another. I enjoyed Gwen and Sabine's relationship, though I did miss some of the slow-burn tension that made the earlier books so compelling. That said, for a novella, the authors did an excellent job, and there is plenty of mutual pining to keep readers entertained.
One of my favorite aspects of the book was getting more time with Iris and Ramona. In fact, the best part of the novella for me was seeing the gap filled in from the previous book and finally getting more context around the extension of their deal after they kissed. It was a moment I had been curious about, and I loved seeing it explored.
Overall, this is a fun, satisfying, and quick read that works best when read alongside the first two books in the series. Fans of the original books will find plenty to enjoy here.

Cauldrons & Campfires was absolutely adorable - I pretty much read it in one sitting! I love the world of Maple Hollow, and this was no different, even on the outskirts of the town.
The romance between Gwen and Sabine developed naturally through stolen moments, and was absolutely adorable. Whilst they were very different, neither one sacrificed what they wanted in life (even if it didn't turn out the way they thought!).
I also adored the friendship that Gwen had with the other girls, especially Faith. There was so much heart beneath the magic and fun.
Whilst this takes place in Maple Hollow, it can be read as a standalone!

I was beyond excited to get to read this book early. I mean a witchy summer, yes please! I devoured the e-arc. I did have a slower start, but once I got into the novel, time flew by. Gwen was giving alt black cat vibes. It was interesting to understand her experience of becoming a witch and finding where she truly belongs. That was a refreshing perspective. Sabine is a fiery outdoorsy type who is looking to escape her confining life for the big city. I found their different personalities blended like a well-crafted latte. Even though it was obvious how they felt about each other right away, I enjoyed the friendship that blossomed. I don't love a third-act breakup, but theirs made sense. They were torn between what they wanted for themselves and what the other person wanted. I loved the teasing of the romance in Curses & Cold Brew. I would love a romance with Faith, the half-witch, half-vampire. I adored her. I can't wait to read more books in this series!

The premise of this sounded so fun and right up my street. Sadly it lacked a lot of the elements that appealed to me. For a book about going to a witch summer camp to learn magic (and where the love interest was supposed to mentor her), there wasn't much magic, and almost no teaching.
The setting was fun and I did like the basic world building, but it was mostly a romance. We hardly got to know what they were up to at camp, or anything about Gwen's cabinmates, because every scene was between Gwen and Sabrina (even when that meant a 2 week time jump during an only 2 month camp). Even saying that, we missed most of them getting to know each other. It was very instalove anyway (which I don't typically enjoy), but either way it needed more depth and development.
A short, easy palette cleanser that had potential for more. It's worth noting that I didn't read the other books this was connected to, so you may enjoy it more if you have!

If you love witches, summer camps and a instalove book, this one is for you.
Two years ago I read the first book set in Maple Hollow (Pumpkin spice and poltergeist) and I fell in love with it. When I found out that this new book was the beginning of another series set in the same universe, I RAN to get it!!! And I absolutely loved it.
Is it a perfect book? Probably not. There are a few small things that could have been stronger, but none of them mattered to me while I was reading. I knew after only a couple of chapters that it was going to be a five star read for me. I think the experience a story gives you is just as important, and this one made me smile from beginning to end. I loved the characters, the story, the setting, everything about it basically.
It gives the perfect Summerween atmosphere with its cozy and magical summer camp energy, plus an instalove romance that develops very quickly, basically everything that I love in a book.
Can’t wait for more sapphic magical stories!!
