At best love is complicated with one man. I have two. One is my fiance and the other is his brother. Both want to win my heart. But I want what God wants. I can only hope He knows what's best, live in His will, and follow His teachings. My name is Evelyn Miller. This is the story of how I became a Westerling.

From the moment that I first began to read Cathy Jackson's work I was doomed. Now, Broken has done just that to me.... I am totally Broken right now! Falling in love is rough, but when you fall in love with fictional characters, well that is just another level of insanity! Evyln is a strong woman who has had to overcome a lot. Much like Phoenix, her previous relationship left much to be desired. Enter the Westerling men. Yep, feelings will be hurt, relationships built, and challenged. Choices will have to be made and lives will be forever changed. Get out the tissues, you will need them. Don't miss out on the next big love story. I don't want to spoil the book for anyone but I will say this: I do hope that Evie choses the right Westerling.
Thank you Cathy Jackson for creating this beautiful world.
Broken, an interesting book. From the start up to the last, I was hooked and intrigued with the story of this book. The main character of this book is Evelyn, a hardworking-student-nurse and now single-mom who is doing everything for her children. In this book, Phoenix and John are still here, along with the other characters from the previous books (Blossom and Bloom). Many things will happen that makes me emotional and curious on who among the two brothers will Evelyn will choose, is it the one who she fell in love or the one who she find to be a great husband? This book had me curious all throughout! And the unexpected revelation shocked me! WOW! The way the story ended is good! I can't wait to see what will happen next!
>I am an independent reviewer. This is the third book in the Bloom series and ends without any real closure.
>I love the fact that John and Phoenix still play a large part in this book, even though this story is about Evelyn, David and Jonny. This story is a huge love triangle. The reasons the family dislikes Jonny so much are brought to light and totally blind siding! I don't understand Evelyn's insistence on ignoring her feelings for one brother, while lying to herself regarding the other brother. Evie is a strong woman, with a huge faith in God and the power of prayer. She doesn't seem to use the tools at her disposal to help with her love life. She prayed for her car and trusted God, but not her life?
>I love the theme of following God's will even if it is distasteful. I have had instances of "You gotta be kidding me God" in my life, so I could relate with Phoenix and John's decision to care for John's ex. I hope that Jonny will be redeemed, but he was almost past the point of me caring about him. His actions regarding the will and Evie were so underhanded, thoughtless, selfish and rude, that I may have a problem liking him. I was disappointed in David. He is a Deacon, yet willing to have a relationship with a woman clearly not in love with him. Does he not pray for guidance either? The ultimate in relationships is John and Phoenix. I love them together. I admit I was ticked this book did not end with a birth. Not even an ultrasound photo?! I have a hard time waiting, so my bad.
>This story was a great addition to the story that began in Bloom. I can't wait to see what direction Evie goes, how the birth goes and how the family pulls together. I also just loved Evie's kids!
>This book is recommended for a young adult (16+) to adult audience.
I was asked to give an honest review of the book BROKEN. I have read all three of the books to date and find myself wanting more from this family. Out of all three books this book has had me on the edge of my seat waiting for what was to happen next. I started the book yesterday morning and was late to work by a few minutes in the afternoon. I could not put the book down. The character Evelyn, drew me into her story, The love she has towards her family and the difficulty she has endured to this point in her life. God has given her several paths to explore and to decide which would be best for her, however Evelyn struggles with the options and asks for God's help. This book shares those paths and her struggles with her heart. You will be drawn in just as I was and will count the moments until the next part of the series is written. Cathy Jackson is a spectacular and brilliant author and will not disappoint. Thank you Cathy for this opportunity to help you with your talent and passion. You are one of my favourite authors and you are up there with the likes of Nora Roberts, Danielle Steele, and J D Robb. Brilliantly written.

Broken begins where Blossom, previous story ended. This story is about love, forgiveness, loss and redemption. Evelyn Miller, Daniel and Jonny Westerling. Do we follow God's will and plan for us or shall we follow what we think is best for us? Evelyn will have to decide whether to take a chance and follow her heart or to stay with what is safe. The characters face several spiritual struggles and battles. How they bargain, acknowledge and respond to the fray. I am a firm believer of Everything happens for a reason in life. . Author’s storyline is creative and imaginative, and captures the reader. Jackson brilliantly entwined each chapter to a song. A powerful, emotional, heart-breaking story. A review copy of this book was provided by the Author. Pre-ordered on Amazon.
An emotional and touching story about having faith and doing what's right, even when you don't like or understand the reason. When you don't have the answers it is easy to doubt and when you don't want something to go a certain way, it's hard not to try and change the course. Some tests are harder than others but if your faith is strong you'll reap the rewards and receive the understanding you need.
Evie is a strong Christian woman. She's been down a rough road and made it through. But the tough choices aren't over. With her heart and mind at battle, can she keep her faith and trust that He will lead her down the right path?
Broken is a perfect name for this story as it left me Broken! I was crying and praying for Jonny at the end of this book until I realized that it's a fictional character. That's how deep I was drawn into this story! Cathy better write fast because I don't think I can wait until August for Bound to come out ... I need it ASAP!
***Thanks for allowing me to read an ARC in exchange for a HONEST review***
I was so honored when the author of this book asked me to read it for her. I have read her other two books and was blown away. So this time it wasn't different. But this story had more a twist to it . The story is about Evelyn, and Johnathon. How they came to be friends and hopefully fall in love.
Evelyn is a divorced mother of two young children and is picking herself up and making sure that she and her children have better lives . She is the best friend to John and Phoenix Westerling . She is such a strong character and wants what is best for her , her family and her friends. She knows the difference between right and wrong but when Johnathon Westerling comes into the picture . Well she is torn. Johnathon is the black sheep of the family and has turned his back on them . He has done things that have hurt many people . He is a cocky man , but underneath he is hurting and wants to love. But he can't, or he thinks he can't . It just will take the right woman to stand up to him and set him straight . The rest of the cast of characters is also back and we find out a few things that we didn't know in the other books . But I won't tell you cause it is a big spoiler and one of the reasons Johnathon is the way he is. But trust me you will want to throttle him or hug him most of the time in this book. Trust me there were a few time where I wanted to slap him then in the next page I wanted just to hug him tight.
This book is full of emotion and you will shed a tear or two . You see the Westerlings at their best and at their worst .But, you will see them love and pull together as a family through the tough times and rejoice in the happy times . The story is about the family struggles but also about the lost soul who wants to come home but doesn't know how to repair the damage that has been done. You will get sucked into the story of the Westerlings and you will laugh and love with them . You will want to slap a few people too by the way. So if you want a great clean read that will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride of emotion please check out the BLOOM SERIES by Cathy Jackson.
I don't know how I discovered the Westerling men, but I am so glad I did. John was the first that I fell for, and in this one I got to meet David and Jonathon better. These men are gorgeous! I loved Evelyn right away. A hard working mom of two confronted with the everyday hardships of being a mom. She has to make a hard choice, and she shows she isn't perfect. The women in Cathy's stories are ordinary women with imperfect bodies and problems. It gives others hope that Mister perfect could come along for them. If you want a book where you don't have to think just enjoy, read any of her books. So glad to find this author. This series is uplifting and one that I could recommend to anyone without them being offended. Cathy has done a great job of pulling you into her stories. I love a book that grabs me right away.
Evelyn's time has come. Her hard work with school, finally a degree in nursing. Her children, are growing and healthy. Her only problem...She is in love with Jonny but engaged to his brother David. David is the safe one, the father figure that loves her kids, a deacon in her church, and the one that will treat her like a queen. But her heart keeps pulling her back towards Jonny and his rough ways. But Jonny doesnt want kids. To top it all off, Jonny wants John and Phee to take in John's ex wife, who is dying of cancer. And guess who gets the case as her first assignment working for Hospice..Evelyn. With everything coming at her at once, Evelyn has to figure out her mind and her heart, praying for answers from above.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Book 3 starts with Evelyn's story. I have to say, the first thing that I loved was the fact that Cathy Jackson stated that Evelyn was breastfeeding both her children. I loved this! Breastfeeding is a natural act that NEEDS to be normalized in the USA and having it in a great, Christian book is a stepping stone to getting it there. Evelyn makes so many great strides in this book. I loved the flow of it and the writing was great as all of Cathy Jackson books are. 5 STARS!
No spoilers for those you haven't read this book yet. But it was a great read. I loved the story line and just everything about it. I did not want it to end at all. I have to say that Cathy Jackson hit another home run with this book. If I could give it more then 5 stars I would. When it's available one click this book you will not be disappointed at all. You will be reading a great story. By a great writer/ author. And check out her other books as well. You will love them. I loved broken it was a awesome read. Check it out
What an emotional story of love, loss and heartache. this is the first of this book by Ms. Jackson that I have read and now I want to read the next one to see what happens to Evie! In life we always want what we can't have. In Evelyn's case it is man, a brother but which one will she choose and which one will choose her. There are a lot of twists and turns in this book and will keep you guessing along the way. I am very honored that the author wanted me to review for her and very happy to read many more of her books about the Westerlings!
amazing!!! this book 3 and my oh my... I loved the feelings of I should love this person because he is everything I need but the heart want that person who is all messed up. there is a cliffhanger that is going to make me crazy wanting to what happens next, but honestly it's worth waiting for. Mrs. Jackson has the ability to write in a way that you feel her characters feelings. I love this series so much!! you must read it
Cathy Jackson did it again. I loved this book. I read it through it one sitting because I could not put it down. This book does leave you hanging however. There are still so many questions left unanswered (I will just have to wait for the next book). The emotions you run thru while reading this book........ Keep up the wonderful writing.

Reviewed on behalf of Ladies Living in Bookland - review by Susan
The third book in the 'bloom' series by Cathy Jackson continues following the Westerlings we have grown to know and love. But this time from the point of view of Evelyn...a good friend Pheonix met through the church group. We see the troubles of Evelyn who has been left by her ex with two young children and is back living with her parent whilst she finishes her nurse training.
The bond between Pheonix and Evelyn touched me, as the pair grew close trough the story. Evelyn would however have a quandary on her hands with the Westerling brothers. David, the good, honest and respectable man, church deacon and crush on Evelyn and loved her children, or the rogue, younger brother who Evelyn mostly couldn't even hold a conversation with in the early stages. But felt much more of a connection with despite knowing the troubles he came with... --------- Excerpt: The magnetic draw I felt to the youngest and most dangerous Westerling was strong. It was seducing me, but I resisted it. ---------
But as the story developed we see the respect and Christian values the other stories have. How their faith has seen them all through some awful times, but also how Johnny was not following that same path....
Evelyn worked solidly between her parents, young children, friends and studying and future career. She truly was a brilliant woman who dealt with anything she had thrown at her but with her new found friendship with Pheonix and John, she felt truly settled after her treatment from her Ex. --------- Excerpt: I may have lost a husband, but I gained a family. ---------
As Evelyn and Jonathon (Johnny) continues and we see the true depth of the family rift that seems so deep, Evelyn is kept in the dark as to the reasons surrounding them, but recognises that he needs them and by sheer determination does everything in her power to fix the Westerling brothers relationships and in turn help him. --------- Excerpt: You don't think I know you are trying? .... I know you are. I know that underneath that self-assured, cocky, arrogant exterior is someone who is just wanting to be loved. Not by just anyone, but by your family. ---------
The continuing love and commitment with Joh and Pheonix is as clear as ever. Pheonix develops in her pregnancy throughout. But as Evelyn gains her trust and friendship, she tells her more about her marriage. But only snippets from her past. But she and John both recognise the feelings that Evelyn holds for the troublesome Johnny... --------- Excerpt: You just have to know that loving him is the hardest thing you will ever do in your life. He's not trustworthy and he has few redeeming qualities. He won't be dependable and you have to take him like he is. ----------
As the story develops and we see two men fighting for her affections, Evelyn knows what the 'right' thing to do is and who will protect her, but will her heart tell her different and to go with the man she knows will cause her more heartache?
I admit I was a little disappointed at the ending of the story but we see Jonathan reaching out for his faith again despite all his past heartache and there are lots of avenues the story could take next so I am excited for the next Instalment. As ever another brilliant read by the talented Cathy Jackson.
Broken is a strange book, full of surprises. From the blurb I had expected a romance with inspirational elements, but this feature was relatively minor - certainly the book does close with the main character being, or claiming to be, 'in love', but there's no development, no inner growth - just a sudden switch from hatred to love that, one could not but feel, had more to do with MC's perception of what each man had to offer her lifestyle than with any deeper feeling.
The biggest surprise the book had in store was the almost comical nastiness of the main character, Evelyn. I think it's the first time I have ever encountered a romance heroine who didn't even attempt to be sympathetic. One often sees ones one can't like - because they are whiny, pathetic, or whatever- but these minor faults don't afflict Evelyn. She is simply bad to the bone; despite regular church attendance, constant praying and a lot of talk about her Christianity, she never lets religious belief get in the way of her convenience. A more thoroughly self-centred, cruel, even vicious character I don't think I have seen since Mrs Norris. She leaves Becky Sharp for dead.
Because of this, the book's real strength is in its exposition of the anatomy of what the Bible calls a 'whited sepulchre' - that is, a person claiming to profess Christianity without for one second letting it get in the way of what he feels like doing. Evelyn is a classic example of this as she prays her way through her days, kicking waitresses and generally damaging everyone with whom she comes in contact. Even poor, sweet Phoenix comes in for plenty of grief as Evelyn constantly ignores her phobia of physical contact and cops a feel at every opportunity.
All through the book, I kept expecting the watershed for Evelyn - the metanoia, the change of heart, but it didn't happen. She did seem to tone down her nastiness a bit at the end of the book, once she had two brothers dangling after her, and right at the end she makes her choice in favour of honesty, but one is left wondering for how long, and what further pain this woman will inflict on the Westerling family.
This series is unlike any other I have read. You can get much of it as a stand alone but you will appreciate it from the beginning. The prodigal son is trying to find his way back to the fold, but those detours are oh so tempting! The basis of the plot is Christianity and love and forgiveness but temptation and human nature, free will, play such strong roles. John and Phoenix are expecting a child and her health is at risk. Still, she shows her strength when it counts. Evelyn is Phoenix's best friend, found through church, and strugling to rebuild her own life with two very young children, after divorce. Evelyn has become quite devout and daily tries to live her best life. Two men, brothers, pull her emotions in vastly different directions. She loves them both in different ways but above all else she is a mother and desires to be self supporting. Jonathan Westerling has always wanted anything his brothers have had. Does that low self festtem and jealousy color his decisions? This is a series about family and desires and finding the correct path in life. The Westerlings have so many deeply held secrets.
What choices will be made that can change all of their futures?
I did receive an advance copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest opinions. You will find yourself pulled into the story and questioning everyone's motives. How will it turn out? At the end of this book we are still wanting to know more.
1 woman + 2 brothers = TROUBLE Evelyn Miller is a divorced mother of two small children, living back at home with her parents, going to school to be a RN. She is close friends with John and Phoenix Westerling. Jonny Westerling is the black sheep of the family, wherever he goes, he is like a tornado that stirs up trouble and leaves destruction behind. David Westerling is a Godly man like his brother John, Deacon in the church and has fallen in love with Evelyn, but so has Jonny. What happens when two brothers both want the same woman and they are complete opposites? One is trustworthy, will be faithful, and loves her and her two children; the other is self-centered, a rebel, and has a bad track record? Oh my goodness, I was totally captivated, the pages were turning, the plot was full of twist and turns, at times spiraling out of control, so many emotions. This series sucks you into the Westerling vortex with its various characters and storyline, and just when you see a possible light at the end of the tunnel, you are left with a cliffhanger screaming no, you can't leave us like that. Stay tuned for Bound in August. Disclosure: I received an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions, and ratings are my own.
Evelyn is a Christian woman, just divorced from an abusive man, she has two young children to care for and decides to take control of her life by going back to and graduating college and getting a job as a nurse. She befriends a woman called Phoenix and her husband John through the church. John Westerling has brothers who are just as handsome as he is. David is right for Evelyn in every way, safe, secure and caring however hard she try's she can't love him. Evelyn falls hard for Johns youngest brother Jonny, who is wild, self entered, broken and so wrong for her. She has had one bad marriage and doesn't want another, she needs a stable man in her life to care for her children, and Jonny is not that man.
I liked that the author gave a song title to each chapter, it set the tone throughout the book. I thought that the book had good twists and turns to keep you hooked until the last page, and then the cliffhanger. I will be interested to see how this story goes in the next book.
Broken is the third book in the Bloom series. This is the story of Evelyn Miller a Christian woman with a rough past. Love is complicated enough with one man but Evie has two that want to win her heart, her fiancé and his brother. This is a love story but also deals with headache and loss. It seems we always want what we can't have. In the end which brother will she choose?
I love this series and Broken has definitely lived up to my expectations. I love the way Ms Jackson writes, it's so vivid that I can actually see the scenes come to life.
I have fallen in love with the characters. In Broken, we get to catch up with John and Phoenix and get to know more about Evelyn, Jonny, David and the rest of the Westerlings. What a dynamic family they are. Evelyn is a strong woman, she's a single mother to two small children, full time nursing student and works full time at the hospital. She is smart and witty, I cannot wait to read Bound to find out how her story ends.
This is the third book from this author I have read. I was sucked in from the first word in the first book, and she has done it again. This book has love, and heartbreak. One has to heal them self, but sometimes it takes another to help you walk that road. That road can be such a troubling one. Choices you make are not always the one you think you should take. People you think you should be with may not be what the higher power has in mind. (This is a religious book. I am not religious at all, but that doesn't matter here. She doesn't throw god in your face, make you feel like less of a person or anything like that. That's why I love this author and her books, It is just a story she needs to tell and brings you along for the ride) Anyways This book will have you bringing out the tissue box.
I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review:
This was the first book of Cathy's that I had the pleasure of reading. At first, I found it very hard to get into the story. The talk of God and faith completely threw me off. After powering through the first 6 chapters, I found myself getting into the story and the characters.
Evelyn is a wonderful mother, who will do whatever it takes for her two children. She is a loving mother, and a devout woman. She has a huge heart but as the quote says, "don't mistake her kindness for weakness". She is not afraid to speak her mind at all. She loves with all of her heart, and that includes her friends John and Phoenix.
She finds herself torn between two men, and the story is just simply incredible. I will definitely be reading more of Cathy's books in the future!
I love this series! The Westerling family are bonded together by love and faith! This book introduces us to Jonny and he is definitely the bad sheep of the family! He has made some bad choices and doesn't know how to undo the harm he has done! He goes through life keeping his distance from everyone he meets but that changes when he meets Evelyn! She is different from anyone he has ever meet! Choices need to be made and Evelyn is torn between two brothers and the choice is not going to be easy! I highly recommend this series and if you haven't read the first two I suggest you go grab them to you will not be disappointed! The first book is Blossom and the second is Bloom! I was giving a copy of this book for an honest review!
Once again Cathy Jackson brings you into her world of the Westerlings and makes you part of their family. This is the story of Evelyn a single mother finishing school with great faith in God and love of her family. She's become great friends with Phoenix and John and it's nice to see Phoenix enjoy that friendship. Evelyn speaks her mind and doesn't apologize for who she is or what she believes. Now she has to choose between the one brother she loves and the other she respects and who believes as she does. So not to giveaway anything I'll leave this with this that if you haven't read this author's books you must. She's a must read for anyone who loves romance stories! I was given this book for a honest review.
This is Evelyn’s story. Evelyn is engaged but is it to the right brother? Relationships will be tested and when it’s all said and done is anything resolved? Will relationships last this test? Or are they all going to be broken? This is a very spiritual story and they rely on god to help them make the tough choices. Will the choose the right path or not choose at all?
I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.
I Loved Broken. It was touching, beautiful, full of emotions, and heartwarming Story. Cathy JACKSON has done it again. She has written another great Story. It's a Story Of Evelyn Miller who is Loved by Two Brothers. David and Jonathan Westerling. But Evelyn has true love for only Westerling and She has to decide whether to listen to her heart by choosing him and taking the risk or turn away from it.
I Would Recommend Everyone to read Broken. I Would be Great if You start with Bloom. You would be able to connect to the characters more <3
Cathy Jackson has done it again with this third installment of the Bloom series in "Broken". We have the story of Evelyn, studying to become a nurse; and her emotional upheaval in romance. The Westerly Brothers make their appearance and you wonder how this heroine will fare. It is a delightful read that I can heartily recommend!
YOU MUST READ BLOOM AND BLOSSOM BEFORE YOU READ THIS BOOK.... After her husband leaves her with two small children Evelyn, is trying to get her life together. She is a college student and mom who has no intention of meeting Mr right just yet but when two brothers confess their love who will she pick?
