Born in California, Caryl McAdoo got to Texas in time to celebrate her first birthday. As a Dallas seventh grader, she remembers a homework essay on ‘What will you be doing in 2000?’ Looking into the future, she saw herself as an inter-galactically famous author, streaking from planet to planet signing books.

She laughs, “But I didn’t start writing again until the late ’80s, then was so blessed to find the DFW Writers’ Workshop in ’93.”

Her first book debuted ’99, then for the next nine years, she averaged a title a year from four traditional presses: two non-fiction, four novels, and three mid-grade chapter books.

In March 2014, her first historical Christian romance VOW UNBROKEN debuted from Howard Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.

In April that year, she re-released LADY LUCK'S A LOSER (formerly The Apple Orchard Bed and Breakfast) with a new chapter. In September 2014 HEARTS STOLEN, book two in the Texas Romance Family Saga historical romance series, debuted as her first new Indie, and in November A LITTLE LOWER THAN THE ANGELS, her first Biblical fiction series The Generations launched. So four titles in 2014.

Book three of the historical Family Saga HOPE REBORN debuted in January 2015 to start off a whole new year with eleven new titles planned. THE PREACHER'S FAITH comes in February, Caryl's first contemporary in Red River Romance series. THEN THE DELUGE COMES, volume two of The Generations, follows in March.

Since 2014, she's published over sixty new books, averaging over seven new titles a year through 2020. She completed the 'Texas Romance Family Saga' with a total of ten novels, plus several 'Texas Companion Books'!

Plus, she's eight books into a second series, the 'Cross Timbers Romance Family Saga' and debuts a third New Beginnings saga's book one WAGONS WEST in November 2022, her fifth book for the year.

Also known as Grami, she adores twenty-five grandsugars, and she and O’Pa—her high school sweetheart and husband of fifty+ years write together. She’s dedicated to advancing God’s Kingdom through her novels, praying her story gives God glory!

Caryl loves to share her testimony, pray, and praise and worship Him; He frequently gives her new songs.

She believes all good things are from Him and that her books will minister His love, mercy, and grace to her readers.

Irving, Texas remained her lifelong home until 2008 when she and Ron followed God’s leading to Red River County in the far northeast corner of the Lone Star State. There at The Peaceable, the twenty acres of blessings they call home, the McAdoos raise chickens and goats while waiting for God to open the next door!

The fourth book in the Texas Romance Series, Sons of the Mothers by Caryl McAdoo, is a delightful Christian, historical romance novel.

Persistent faith brings redemption and reconciliation.

Propelled by blind love, Mary Rachel Buckmeyer defies her father to elope with Caleb Wheeler. The newlyweds run off to California then partner with his cousin in his dry goods business.

This installation continues the story immediately after the conclusion from the previous installation. The heroine made a rash decision that would change her life forever.

Unbeknownst to the young bride, her new husband sends his kissing cousin ahead. He wants his love and his new wife’s money, too. Betrayal and murder drive Mary, soon a young mother, to the depths of despair. But she hates the man who loves her enough to cover her sins and deliver her out of the horrible pit she’s dug for herself in. Or does she?

There were many twists and turns that work to confuse the direction the storyline is actually headed toward. There are some grammatical errors, but that doesn't detract from the story.

Mary Rachel travels from frontier Texas to the raw bone boomtown of 1850’s San Francisco gold rush days, then all the way to genteel New York to find redemption for the sins of her mothers.

Although this is a clean story, it is not completely wholesome. The novel reveals instances of forgiveness, redemption, and reconciliation. But God can redeem even the bleakest of situations.

I would recommend this book. It is currently available through the Amaon Kindle Unlimited program.

Sins Of The Mothers by Caryl McAdoo is book number four in the Texas Romance series, and I was blessed to receive a copy.
There are so many biblical truths and parallels in the novel, that it is hard to know where to begin. I think it is true to say that, although set in the nineteenth century, this is a modern retelling of the stories of both the prodigal son and Hosea.
Mary Rachel elopes with Caleb Wheeler to California, whilst her family are on holiday in Europe. She believes herself to be in love with him, and that life with Caleb is what she wants. Mary had always had a good relationship with her father, but her eyes are blinded by love.
Sins Of The Mothers deals with many biblical themes, including the theme of generations being cursed. Mary looks to her mother's past behaviour, and sees herself making the same mistakes. It is not so much being cursed, but being human, and as such, both Mary and ourselves are apt to make mistakes, which can look like history repeating itself.
The novel also shows that one cannot live our lives looking backwards at ones mistakes and regrets. Caryl McAdoo highlights the theme of forgiveness. Characters must forgive in order to move on with life. The only time to look back, is if there is any unforgiveness that needs to be dealt with.
As I was reading the novel, I was reminded of God's words to take care of the widows and orphans. There is a delightful young orphan called Franny who comes into Mary's life. I thought that Franny was delightfully drawn, and I loved her exchanges of dialogue.
It is important to listen for God speaking. This does not always come in the form of a voice, but can be just a feeling in ones heart. The novel demonstrates that the characters need to be obedient to God's calling.
The evils of drink are portrayed in the novel. Several characters are unable to make wise judgements, after having partaken of alcohol.
Mary Rachel is a strong female character who has her flaws - she is far too trusting of men, and believes what they tell her. She is, in consequence, very human, and very likeable.
I always enjoy reading Caryl McAdoo's Texas Romance novels, and have a hard time putting them down. This latest offering is no exception!

“What if I never love you?”
“Doesn’t matter, the onus is on me to love you. I haven’t found one place scripture tells the wife to love her husband. And I do love you, Mary Rachel, with my whole being. Father God will take care of the rest.”

This book by Caryl McAdoo is book 4 in the Texas Romance series. I did not read any other books in the series prior to reading this one but was able to follow the plot and the main characters’ journey. Reading the first three books would have given me a better insight into the multitude of secondary characters and how they all connect to each other and to the main characters in this particular book. Even though the sheer number of characters in this book and series overwhelmed me in the beginning, the book was quite enjoyable. The plot is engaging with unexpected twists and turns, the characters Mary, Lanelle, Moses, and Jethro are interesting, and the story moves at a good pace.
The emotional and spiritual journey that each of the main characters undertakes is raw and real.
The settings of San Francisco with the outlying gold mines, Texas with its vast lands and ranches, and New York City with bustling commerce and finance in the mid-1800s are vibrant and touchable.
Anyone who enjoys a historical family saga would enjoy this book and the series.

I was given a copy of this book from the author/publisher via Celebrate Lit Tours. I was not required to write a favorable review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

I tell you what, folks, this girl can write! I do love this series, and maybe most especially this book.

Mary Rachel Buckmeyer is smart as a whip. She can out-negotiate the experts, out-guess marketing trends, and out-stubborn a mule. Trouble is, she tends to follow her heart into disaster. She falls in love with Caleb Wheeler, a man her father says is a boy. As she finds out, he's not only irresponsible, he has a meandering eye, lies like a braided rug, and has all the loyalty of a new-born pup.

Mary hops from one frying pan to another until one man shows up who could steady her and get her out of the fixes she gets herself into. But again, trouble is she might throw him away. When will this girl ever learn?

Such a great story! I know you'll love it. Available at Amazon or Barnes and Noble.

My Musings

this is an intriguing story with characters that pull you in and won't let go. Mary Rachel is plagued by her strong will reading to making monumental mistakes left and right while looking over the good man who is just right for her. Method is not a man of God but is lead to our Lord when is best friend's life is held in God's hands, redeeming him in a bit way. When the little girl Francy enters the story she steals the show, whAt a delightful character! Lots going on in this romance. While there Re a few issues, the book definitely held me in its grips from start to finish. I can't wait to read the next one in this q. Happy ☺reading 📚!

My oh my...

This one was even more lively and dramatic than the last one. So many of my own experiences were in this story. I so.. relish the drama and the quotes from scripture. I learned some of it that I did not know also. The men in this book are more active and close to reality. I swear Mary Rachel and I would respond in stereo in real life. So I read this book in 1and a half days. Could not put it down. I crave books that work 'The Lord' into the story. I will read every one I can get my hands on. Looking for the next one now.

Sins of the Mother

The character's in this book were interesting, but there was to much unnecessary information in the story. In could have been shortened and I would have enjoyed it a great deal more.

I have several feels on this book. While I thought it was well written and characters well developed, it wasn't what I expected from this author. A girl runs off to marry someone her father doesn't approve of and while supposedly the money she takes is hers, she had to breathe a sigh of relief that her father had not changed the code to his safe for her to get it. After she finds herself widowed, she commits fornication which later we find was actually an act of adultery. So while there is good in the story as well, I see , theft, fornication, adultery, and fornication between relatives, it's just not something I normally would have read or listened to.

The narration was done well.

I did receive a free copy of this audiobook from the author and have voluntarily left this review.

This California Gold Rush era romance with a lovely cover and eye-catching title was expansive in detail and characters. Somewhat with a slower start, however, picked up as it went along, sometimes with confusing details that tended to jump about. There were numerous characters who were difficult to follow since this was the middle of the series. It would have helped to put the glossary of characters listed in the front instead of the end of the book for clarification. Could not understand why Mary insisted upon returning to Texas with her intended to obtain her father's permission to marry when she was pregnant with another man's child (considering she eloped initially) and was so overt about it. Quiet and under the table would have sufficed better especially with impressionable children in their midst.

Great job Caryl with this book. It keeps moving quickly, keeping my interest piqued along the way. Hard to quit listening to!! God gives to those who humbly ask and have repented of their sins as the characters in this book have learned. Christians even in these times had to deal with deceit, lies, hurt, and lures of the world as we do today. They, like us today need to lean on God for help in times of trouble.

I listened to the audiobook of this story. Narration was good. Loving this series. Mary Rachel is in love with Caleb, but her Father doesn't trust him. While he is away with family, Mary Rachel elopes with Caleb. She can't be happier, but that will soon change. Can she redeem herself and overcome the mistakes she has made. Follow her journey.

Sometimes we think that we know best, especially when it comes to matters of the heart. Despite what her Texas Ranger father, Henry Buckmeyer had asked, Mary, his daughter waited until the entire family left for their trip to Europe, before she took her inheritance and hightailed it out west with the man she loved, Caleb Wheeler. Taking a 100 gold coins in some saddlebags and some paper currency, she believed it would be enough for a fresh start to a happy and wonderful life.

But as things always go, Mary was able to face insurmountable odds, when Caleb announces that his cousin Lanelle is joining them as well to watch over his stock of moonshine that he is hoping to sell for $1 a shot on the west coast among those who are searching for gold out in the hills of California. He has a vested interest along with his cousin John in opening a mercantile to sell everything a miner could need and make a killing. With Mary's knowledge and ability to barter, he knows he has exactly what he has planned in convincing her to marry him and head west.

But when they arrive, Mary doesn't realize that Lanelle and Caleb have a twisted love affair going on behind her back. When she realizes she is now pregnant with their first child, she is convinced it will be enough to settle down Caleb's wild ways, but unfortunately Lanelle also winds up pregnant but she is able to keep that a secret from Mary. Lanelle hopes that once Caleb learns she is pregnant, he will leave Mary behind and marry her instead. But she too soon realizes that she has been played by Caleb for his sole benefit alone and moves up into the hills where she marries Moses Jones, who offers to be a great husband and father to his baby and she realizes that love can come in all kinds of packages. It also provides her some distance between Mary and Caleb who are working on making a profit in the mercantile.

When Caleb winds up in the wrong place and the wrong time, Mary soon realizes how sagely her father and mother's advice was, to help her to avoid making the exact same mistakes they did. Now she realizes that just what the Bible says, that the sins of the fathers can visit the third and fourth generations of their children, Mary understands that is precisely what has happened to her and even though she wants more than anything to reconcile her relationship with her family, she knows she can never return home or face the humiliation her family must hold against her.

I received Sins of the Mothers by Caryl McAdoo compliments of Create Space Independent Publishing Platform for my honest review of this novel. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review aside for a free eBook copy and the opinions contained here are strictly my own. Oh how I love a great historical western and no one writes them as well as Caryl McAdoo does. I can't wait for the 5th novel in this series to be published before the end of this year. Sins of the Mothers is the 4th novel in the Texas Romance Series and in the heart of this book reviewer rates a wonderful 4.5 out of 5 stars. There are so many exceptional overlays of biblical stories that this one relates to that you can't help but enjoy it among all the excitement of the California gold rush!

of the Mothers" by Caryl McAdoo is the fourth book in the "Texas Romance Series" and like the other three in the series, this reader couldn't put the book down till I read the last page and then I wanted it to continue. Hope I am not speaking to soon but I believe Book 5 is coming in September. I was so glad to read that at the book of the book.
Sometimes after reading some many volumes in a series that has all the same characters the series gets tiresome. I haven't found that in this series and there isn't a overabearance of repeating the story, like there are in other series.
"Sins of the Mothers" by Caryl McAdoo is a story of family and trust and love and forgiveness and faith. This book isn't a story that is filled with complete happiness but it is a story that is true to life.
My heart really felt heavy when reading the troubles that Mary had, regardless that she choose her own path.
This book has alcohol abuse as well as affairs but it is written in clean language.
The books are written in different time eras, "Sins of the Mothers" is written about 1850’s San Francisco gold rush days. This book shows that when you really let God lead you, the best happens.
I am eagerly awaiting the next book and I have several other books that Caryl McAdoo wrote on my to be read list. I highly recommend this series to anyone that likes Historical Romance and Christian Romance.
I give "Sins of the Mothers"by Caryl McAdoo five stars.

Sins of the Mothers is a Christian western romance novel by author Caryl McAdoo. The setting is California, 1851- 1853.
I wanted to read this book because we think of the Bible speaking about the sins of the fathers, but what about the sins of the mothers. How does that effect generations to come. In this story we read about two women, one married the other not, both pregnant by the same man. Both want to be married to him.
The thing I liked most about the book is the forgiveness, redemption, a nd reconciliation. Jethro Risen is not a man of God but God sought him out. His good friend, and co-worker, Moses, knew God and prayed for Jethro to know God, too. God and the Bible are spoken of all throughout the novel.
My lasting impression of this author will be that her books are God focused. I will be glad to recommend this book to my friends. This book would make a great read for Believers, Unbelievers, and Seekers.

A walk back in time. Caryl McAdoo’s stories just get better and better. You do not need to read this series in order, but you'll want to get to know the characters and follow their journey.

Mary Rachel Buckmeyer’s family is going to Europe. She decides to stay behind and run off with Caleb. She figures with a new name comes a new life, but she soon finds out why her family disapproves of him. In a few years when she and Caleb have lots of money her family will forgive her for running off, won’t they? But what happens when life doesn’t turn out the way you planned? Can she survive on her own, running a store out west, selling goods to the gold miners nearby?

Fear, betrayal, uncertainty, and God’s love shining through. The Lord can make all things new. No matter what’s happened in your past, what you’re going through right now, God can make it right. Life happens, but with God on your side, he makes all things new.

LOVE AND FORGIVENESS, PURER THAN GOLD
I love this series and the people. Mary Rachel Buckmeyer thinks herself in love with Caleb Wheeler, takes her coins, runs away and marries him. They travel to San Francisco to join his cousin, John Wheeler in a dry-good business. Caleb is a cad, having a love affair with his own cousin, Lanelle Wheeler. The story is a good example to remind us that Christians falter and make mistakes, God is always waiting with open arms for forgiveness. Even with forgiveness there is consequences for our actions. Just like our heavenly father, our earthly parents love us, even with our mistakes and shortcomings. All things are possible when God is in it. Disclosure: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions, and ratings are my own.

Sins of the Mothers ( Texas Romance book 4 )
by: Caryl McAdoo
Sins of the Mothers is the fourth book in Texas Romance series. I really enjoyed reading this story and I did not have any problems following the story or the characters. Sins of the Mothers is Mary Rachel’s story and her struggles she goes through. She does not want to follow the sins of her mothers. Mary gathers up her things , coins, and runs off and elopes with the man she loves. Does the past repeat itself? Caryl McAdoo pens a great Christian historical romance fiction story in the 1800’s gold rush days. Be ready when you start reading Sins of the Mothers ,because when you start you will not want to put it down till the last page. Do you believe in forgiveness and second chances?
I was given a copy of this book by the author for my honest review , which I have given.

I've often wondered if the past can repeat itself in a person's life and Mary Rachel Buckmeyer gave me my answer. Love, betrayal, despair, the sweet faith of little children and the perseverance of a miner. These all made for a wonderful story of what life was like in San Francisco during the gold rush of the 1850's. When I finished the last page of Mary's story I smiled and thought... I loved this story! But.. There had better be another book coming because I want more of these Buckmeyer's! I'd recommend this story to anyone who enjoys reading a good Christian, historical fiction of the 1800's.
I was gifted a copy from the author for my honest opinion which I have given..

Beware....this series is habit forming!

The more I read this series, the more I fall I in love with these characters! I am addicted to these books! I love reading the lives of each of the Buckmeyer's clan, and what a clan, it's hard to keep everyone straight!

I love how Caryl spins a story that hits you straight in the heart! The spirituality she weaves really hits the mark. She touches an area that lets the reader know that God does listen and He is there. And He wants wants best for all of us. As portrayed in this book, when he directed and spoke to Jethro.

This book is well worth the your time. It's hard to put down. I literally had to force myself to stop reading so I can work and do my household duties. Ya, definitely a five star book!

I have loved this series about early Texas and Sins of the Mothers is a wonderful addition to the series. Starting this book was like getting reacquainted with close friends you haven't seen for awhile. Caryl's writing pulls you into the story from the first pages and keeps you reading to see what is going to happen next. I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review, and this book and the prior ones in the series are ones that I definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys good faith based historical fiction and romance. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

This was a difficult book to read. The challenges Mary experiences due to her obstinacy and her naivety were frustrating to watch from the outside. Additionally, there were numerous typographical errors that caused me to have to re-read sections to make sure I understood the context. For instance, each time the author referred to something that shone out of a character's life, she used the word shown. Besides being annoying, it changes the meaning. The resolution of the story was quite satisfying, if a bit unbelievable. All in all, it was a fun light-hearted read, but I don't plan to pursue reading the rest of the series or other books by Ms. McAdoo.

The story's main character, Mary Rachel Buckmeyer, goes full circle in this novel from the time she left home, moved west to California, married and lost, bought and started a business, had children and adopted children, to finally settling down. You'll enjoy the characters. Mary is a strong business woman, Jethro and Moses are believers looking for wives, Caleb and a wealthy man deceive Mary, and their parents love them in spite of themselves. Forgiveness is a main theme, as well as taking care of widows and orphans, and service for the Lord. A great read that goes from one situation to another and keeps you guessing.

I couldn't help but feel for Mary, but I had to admire her strength. The characters of Jethro and Moses were great as well. I came to like Lanelle, and Francy was a delight. This story has a great message of love, forgiveness, and redemption. I would definitely recommend this book.

Love this series

Sins of the Mother is book four in the Texas Romance series. I love how there is a strong Christian presence in all of these books. This book also shows that even though one may be a Christian they can still make mistakes and be forgiven. This book also talks about listening to that voice of God when he speaks to you and following though with what he says. The book also shows that you can be rich and not let money rule you, instead use the money for good. Excited to read the next book in this series.

Another great story of Christian love. It has strong characters and great story of second chances. The story of Hosea marrying the harlot is interwoven into the plot. The witness of God's voice speaking to you, forgiveness, and God giving you the desire of your heart if you listen to His voice is also interwoven into the plot. I love the romance, history, and faith. Can't wait for the next book. Caryl McAdoo is an awesome writer. I was given a copy for an honest review.

I downloaded this book for free through an email I received from Book Bub announcing free or extremely cheap books, and I have to say I didn't much care for this one. I'm glad I didn't pay for it. I couldn't get past Cousins being together sexually and having a baby together. It just... gross. I didn't even finish the book & couldn't get past chapter 3..

As much as I liked the story line, I just can't give it more than two stars. There were too many character to keep track of who was who. The author writes in all their different points of view and I kept losing track of everyone. Eventually, the author does settle down and focuses on just a few characters but I was close to putting the book down because I didn't want to take notes.
