Andrea’s having a bad night. Ladies Night is a bust. A fox in the middle of the road does the Bambi-in-the-headlights thing and now her car is off the road, wedged between trees. Her rescue comes in the form of a tall, handsome man who makes her knees melt. If it weren’t for his purple skin she’d have swooned! Her hero saves her car but his price is spending the night at her house until he can contact his friends in the morning. Against her better judgment, she takes him home. When the door closes behind them, she realizes her purple protector has other things on his mind.
Larissa Ladd is a dreamer with insights fresh as the frost newly formed on the twig whose snap echoes through the moonlit forest.
Since as a child she discovered the storybook world of ghouls and goblins, she's been a devotee of the eerie, the supernatural, and all that raises the hairs on the back of the neck. Her spine still shivers with delight when she huddles fearfully in a darkling corner, enthralled in suspenseful tales from her favorite authors Dean Koontz, Stephen King, and John Saul.
Feast your eyes on the scintillating flashes of garish color dabbed forth from her pen.
I've been racking my brain to see if I could come up with anything positive to say about this little freebie. There are two - no grammatical mistakes that I noticed, depressing though it is that that isn't a given - and the forked tongue intrigued me.
Unfortunately the negatives drastically outweigh the positives. The heroine spends an extreme amount of time telling us that she's not drunk... except she admits to having been drinking liquor all night - and with free drinks and the decision to stay until the bar closed, that's probably a hell of a lot. She's got alcohol on her breath. She's anticipating a hangover. And she's behaving incredibly stupidly (more on that in a moment). Girl, you drunk. And you're drunk driving. I cannot stand people who drunk drive. If you want to be reckless with your own life then fine but don't risk other people's. Now, when I say behaving stupidly... don't take strangers home with you, people. Particularly not strangers much more physically powerful than you. Or strangers who lurk in the woods at night. And if you must invite them home FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DON'T LET A STRANGER TIE YOU UP! Yes it turned into some bizarre faux-BDSM scene but he could've done anything he wanted. He could've killed her.
But what stood out more, actually, than the stupidity of our "I swear I'm not drunk officer" heroine was when she feels "anger at... (the stranger's) bizarre skin". Anger? Obviously him being purple is weird but why is she angry about it? I feel a bit ridiculous saying this but probably this stood out more to me because of the BLM protests going on at the moment. I'm not going to be making a placard saying Purple Lives Matter... but it just struck me as sad that she's angry at the skin colour of someone who has done nothing but be at the same place she is. I'm probably reading too much into this but nevertheless it is how I feel.
It was a short quick read. It was.a little hard core but enjoyable. If a quick fun read is what you want then you will enjoy this. It is a cliff hanger with 4 more books you have to buy to get the completed story. Thank you for sharing your story.
Unworldly Encounter I by Larissa Ladd Andrea has never considered herself a beauty. After a ladies night out mostly alone she heads home on the back roads and swerves to miss a fox. How she gets herself out of this one is the beginning of a night she may never forget. Her car in a ditch, not working and then a stranger comes out of the night to help and is able to get her car going. Andrea senses something is a bit different about him yet she doesn’t fear him. All he is asking is a place to sleep but once they arrive at her place and she see him in the light she begins to get a bigger picture. First he is the largest man she has ever met and the fact that he is slightly purple has her thinking this is way beyond strange. When Andrea realizes that she is becoming attracted to him everything about this night is going to change her ideas of a pick up forever. A fast paced read full of intense heat and one interesting purple alien.
I received an ARC eBook in exchange for an honest review. This book was out of this world!! Eerily suspenseful and intriguing as well as passionately seductive. I truly didn't know how I felt about this encounter at first but that made it all the more intriguing. Who knew purple could be so sexy? I don't want to give away any of the story but Part One was HOT, HOT, HOT! I can't wait for Part Two! A fun quick read!
