Tori is weak, small, and vulnerable, the runt of the litter, so the pack does everything in its power to protect her. Jack has always cared about her, but when he screws up and some innocent fun almost kills Tori, she is sent to live with her uncle to keep her safe.
Now three years later, Tori is back, and the moment Jack sees her, he knows she’s his mate. What he’s not prepared for is the revelation that she might not make it through her transition into a wolf in two years’ time.
Tori knows the danger she’s in. With the help of her uncle she’s trying to get stronger, to prepare for the time when she must become a wolf. She wants all the help she can get, and is happy to get help from Jack, the guy who has always been nice to her.
Time is running out, and Jack doesn’t see an answer. If his mate dies, he doesn’t want to live without her. There is only a slim chance of her surviving, but it means he has to break one of the pack’s most sacred laws. He’s willing to risk anything for his mate, but what will happen when the pack discovers what he has done? Will Tori forgive him? Will she accept him as her mate? Or will it all be for nothing?
Sam Crescent is passionate about fiction. She loves a good erotic romance and so it only made sense for her to spread her wings and start writing. She began writing in 2009 and finally got that first acceptance in 2011 by Total-E-Bound. She loved creating new characters and delving into the worlds that she creates. When she’s not panicking about a story or arguing with a character, she can be found in her kitchen creating all kinds of havoc. Like her stories the creations in the kitchen can be just as dubious but sometimes things turn out great.
H and h knew each other when they were young ! H was 15 and h was 13 ! h is the runt so she is fragile ,gets hurt easily so she stays away from the others, H tried to be nice and got her involved with the others to have fun but that did not end well and h could have lost her life. Her parents then sent her away to live with her uncle for her own safety. H felt bad about what happened.
So the transition occurs at 18 & after that you can find your mate. The h returns when she is 16 and when H sees her, it's insta-love. h is still a V and H is not, they were young when they met so i did not really expect the H to stay celibate and also he could not know she was his mate at that time(still i prefer my books where H is celibate after seeing h)
After knowing that she is his mate, he is very devoted and truly loved her ! He waited for like 2 years for h. It's only after the h transition that they have sex. There's only one sex scene by the end of the book. The story goes on how the hero helps the heroine to become stronger, supports her etc.. .so that when the time comes she can overcome the transition.
It was kind of sweet and romantic actually. Epilogue was good! It was an enjoyable read but nothing great tho. I'd rec it if you want a quick read with a feel good ending :)
Loved this book, barely any sex till the very end and it was not missed.I don't usually read about very young H/h's,but I enjoyed this one.Super cute epilogue 10 years later in their life with their 5plus one in the oven. 4.5***

I was bit more irritated to read the word "mate" three to six times in a single page. I also skipped the smutty part because I was not interested in their sex life.
This is the best of this series by Sam Crescent that I have read so far. I loved everything about it. How he has always taken care of her and put her first. Even when he did not know they were mates, he took care of her and helped her get strong. I enjoyed their struggles with an issue of rules and guidelines. He would do anything for her and did and she was everything to him. She may not have been aware of his love and mated status but no matter she wanted him. They have an epic love that goes beyond the physical to the caring and sharing and that speaks of love and devotion. It's a keeper to me. I have only one small thing to critic here and that's it had not enough time together after they are married. I would have liked more lovemaking here. However, the story rocked and I enjoyed this one way more then the alpha bully. A lot less teen drama here.
"Runt of the Litter" is the story of Tori and Jack. Basically, the story was about a prematurely born female wolf, who is weak and hence called "runt" as she keeps breaking bones, doesnt heal, almost dies etc etc. One almost fatal accident with the young hero makes her family send her away to live with her uncle for 3 years. When she returns, she is 16, hero is 19- and he realizes she is his mate. Now he has 2 years in which he has to "strengthen" her furthermore so she survives her transformation. Sweet hero, innocent heroine, but OH SO BORING. I felt the story focused on minor, non significant events+ I am not a fan of YA teenage romance. I wont rate it because I skimmed from like 30%. Unsafe.
Tori and Jack. Tori is the pack runt. She spends a lot of time with her human uncle, who hopes to strengthen her enough to survive her 'transition', the time when were-peoples gain their wolf form. Typically on their 18th birthday. On a return trip to visit her parents, Jack sees her again after several years and knows that she is his mate, but decides to keep it secret so they can focus on helping her train for survival. She remains ignorant that she is his mate because she hasnt transitioned yet. I thought the author would have fun with this, but no... She seemed afraid of offending her readers. In fact she seemed to want.to write the most inoffensive and uninspired book about wolf shifters ever! i was bored. Near the end the author tried to inject drama with the parents but it made no sense. There was no logic to their motivation except to contrive a chance for Tori to seem heroic. Utter 'roll yer eyes' crap. There was a lot of time/continuity errors that I found distracting too at the end. I'm gonna have to add this author to my 'not my cuppa shelf' except for maybe some of her older stuff...

The reason I love this author's books is because of the way she writes her alpha leading men and the explosive chemistry that is between them and the women they love. But this is very different to anything that I've read by her before. It's a bit like your favourite rock band, suddenly decides to play classical music, they might do it well but that's not why you like them. While this is well written, it lacked that all consuming need by the hero to posess his woman. The story spans the two year period before Tori's eighteenth birthday. It's written from both Jack and Tori's POV. Jack is the future beta of his pack, he's already been through the transition, which happens at 18. Tori is the runt of the litter and is not expected to make it when she turns 18, she's small and weak. Jack is determined to help Tori.
Tori is the runt of the pack and there is doubt that she will make it through her transition to wolf and Jack will risk everything to see that she does in this riveting paranormal romance. This romance is gripping and sweet and although the story jumps through time quite a bit, it fits the story and is easy to follow. This is the first story that I have read by this author and once I finished it, I was delighted to discover that she has plenty more for me to read, so I can’t wait to get started.
So disappointed. I really like this authors PRN books usually. But when I read that her mate had literally screwed every single female at his school while she was away, it tainted the whole thing. Even though they are mates, him screwing who knows how many girls making none of it special with his mate. Probably close to 100 girls know exactly what he likes in bed. Why should she be the only virgin and get stuck with a playboy who screws anything that moves? She got the raw end of that deal. Mate or not.

rushed. I was really looking forward to their first time too. I did love the characters. Tori was humorous despite being the runt. Jack was a gentleman and very sexy. I really wish the issues above would have been addressed because this author showed a lot of talent.
Tori was fully turned, her wolf was no longer bound in a cage within her mind. Her transition had been a nightmare. Days and nights filled with turning, changing, getting stronger. She stared down at her body shocked by the transformation.
The years of eating heartily had actually taken its toll. She looked healthy, full, and strong. Her stomach was rounded, her breasts huge, and she had a large set of hips and thighs. She loved her body. Some would call her overweight, but to her, she loved it, and wouldn’t change a thing. It was all because of Jack. She touched her mating mark on her neck, yearning for her mate.
“What’s the matter, Tori?” “Jack. I’ve not seen him, and everyone keeps talking about him. Why isn’t he here?” She turned to her sister. The tears she’d tried to hide finally decided to fall. “I miss him, and he’s not here. I’m alive, but where is he, Rachel? Where’s my mate?” “He’s in lock-up,” her mother said, walking out of the back door. “Jack is where he’s meant to be. He shouldn’t have laid a finger on you.” Carl added, coming toward her. She took a step away from her parents, shocked by the happiness on their faces. “Honey, what’s wrong?” her mother asked. “Jack’s my mate. Why haven’t you taken me to him?” “He broke the rules, baby. He has to either die or be banished. We thought he was there to protect you.” “He did protect me. Jack called to my wolf as I was dead. He opened the door for her to be set free. He’s my mate, and you can’t keep me from him.” I can save him because he’s my mate, and I love him. I’m the one he broke the rules for, no one else. He saved me when everyone else was prepared to let me die. Jack broke the rules to make sure I lived. You owe him, and if Jack’s banished, then I’ll go with him. He’s my mate. The love of my life and I will not be parted from him.” She turned back to the back door.
“He mated you, and you’re not even eighteen.” “If he’d not given me his mated mark,” she pressed a hand to her neck, “I would be dead now.” Staring at her father, her mother, then her sister, she shook her head. “He broke the rules to save the runt of the litter. He shouldn’t be locked away. He should be allowed to walk free because he did something that no one else would do. Jack was willing to risk everything to save my life. None of you would do that. The rules, they don’t count here. I’m going to get my mate.”
“Where’s Jack?” she asked, wasting no time with pleasantries. “He’s in my father’s keeping.” “Take me to him.” “I can’t. You’ve got to go through the alpha.” “Then take me to the alpha. There has been a big mistake.”
This was a cute paranormal coming of age story.

To enhance the reading of this book, you should definitely read Alpha Bully which features Jack’s best friend Marshall.
This book is about Jack and Tori who have a very tough road ahead of them. Tori is considered the runt of the liter do to some complications from birth which left “weaker” than the other wolves.
This book was so hard to read at times because Tori who is only 16 has to face the very truth that she will die instead of transition. This is also terrible for Jack since Tori is his true mate and only wants her to live and thrive.
I enjoyed the progress of the book and the bond between Jack and Tori, she wasn’t aware of the “mate” situation with Jack. I did get a little annoyed with Tori since it was pretty darn obvious Jack was her mate, but the poor girl never suspected anything. Jack is totally sweet and everything is went through to save his Tori was just beautiful and heartbreaking.
I’m sorry but aside from Jack, Paul (her uncle), Marshall and Scarlett, I didn’t really care for how everyone treated Tori. I understand their predicament, but it felt like they were ready to plan her funeral instead of accepting some odd solutions. Her parents were totally out of line when it came to Jack’s hard and ultimately last option.
Tori was the runt of the litter. Everyone in the pack knew it. One accident and she was sent away to live with her Uncle. But things changed over the summer and now Jack has finally transitioned into his wolf. He also found out who is mate is, Tori. But if she doesn’t transition or is unable to stand the change, her life will be cut short. What a sad tale. This one was a bit heartbreaking because it was a race for Jack to save her life. You have to give it to her uncle for making her stronger. Always a plus. And you knew Jack had to help. His wolf was the only one that could help her through it. This was almost bitter sweet at times with them trying to get her stronger and get her wolf to come out. It was tough but in the end it finally worked out. I do love that Jack keeps her happy.
The amount of love and support that Jack feels and gives to Tori is phenomenal. For two years he suffered knowing she was his fated mate, a runt and only sixteen. Even at the end he made decisions that were to help her, not caring what the results would mean for him. The author did a fantastic job of showing what true love and self sacrifice is all about. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Not a bad story. I liked that the shifter female was basically the runt. And she was was sentenced to death. That seems extreme but it's understandable. I liked that the male lead really grew a conscience. I mean he was a heartless bully in the first book. I really didn't think anything good was in him in the first book. I loved finding out what happened to the alpha in training and the girl they all abused.
I read Alpha Bully before Runt of the Litter and have to admit, that this was a good idea since Marshall and Scarlett appeared a lot in this book. I liked Jack and Tori. Their story is very empathetic; with a touch of constant fear of loss.
The only thing I didn't like were Tori's parents. They would have put the pack law over the life of their own child. Instead of being happy, their biggest concern at the time was the "virginity" of their daughter. Horrible!
Dealing with teenagers, I expected angst and a few romantic scenes. What I got was a true love story that tugged on my heart and pulled me into the characters lives. There will be few laughs and a few tears along the way. Love will be shown in its many forms including familial and romantic. This is truly a love story that will touch all that read it.
I, literally, have had this book for maybe 6 months and for some reason I wouldn’t read it. Maybe I was worried about the implications that this story would make me cry. I did cry but wow, this was such an amazing story. I already know I will read it over and over again, Just like Alpha Bully, lol
I would really like to know how she comes up with plots. This one is just as unusual but with a check of a twist. It's still sweet and lovable but it has its hold your breath moments.
It was really weird for me to read this book right after Alpha Bully. To see that Jack was so nice to Tori despite being so mean to Scarlett. It was just explained away as he recognized Tori as his mate, but Marshall didnt have that same instinct despite being the Alpha. It was just too convenient.
Awesome hot sweet sexy .. What he went through for her was amazing .. Freaking loved this book.. Was happy to read about Marshall and Scarlett again too and they all started friend
Wonderful tale of devotion and support. Despite the risk and challenges this couple are committed to overcoming adversity and finding their happy ever after. Recommended.
I like the book but as all of Sam crescent book it seem rushed at times. I would have liked for more in-depth of their relationship development not just 1 month later etc .
