‘After the Fireworks’ flew by for me, being a surprisingly easy and fast read. Even though it approaches heavier topics, like toxic relationships, it does so with extreme caution and in a realistic way. I was quite captivated by the characters, especially by the way friendship was portrayed between the main couple and their friends – it reminded me of some of my favourite romance series and authors, like Elsie Silver’s Chestnut Springs and Elle Kennedy’s Off Campus.
I wish there had been more backstory on Cassie and Liam. Sometimes, since Liam’s character is away a lot for work, I felt like I wasn’t able to connect with him and his romance with Cassie as much as I did with the friendship group dynamics. Even so, I am a safe love girlie and their story truly warmed my heart.
I also felt like the Aaron arc was wrapped up too abruptly, as if I expected a major confrontation to provide closure which ultimately did not happen.

If you’re looking for a tight-knit group of friends who are more like family to each other, this will be the series for you.
I loved the setting for the book - small town, close-knit community where even newcomers are welcomed into family dinners with open arms. Every character was well written and everyone had their own quirks and flaws, something realistic that really helped with the storyline.
Unfortunately for me the pacing was a bit off - some parts moved too fast, others too slow and it took me out of the plot a bit. Also not a fan of the miscommunication trope.

First of all, a huge thank you to Adria Forck for letting me join the arc team. This is my first time being in one and I am grateful for this opportunity.
After the Fireworks is such an easy and comfortable read. The book is a blend of friends-to lovers, close-knit friend group, small town, hardworking men, and independent women. If you want all these wrapped up in a book, this one is for you.
The story follows Cassie who had been in a decade long relationship with Aaron, a guy who has a massive god complex, is emotionally manipulative and worthless in every sense. Cassie tries to save her relationship by trying to put up with his bs. Liam, one of Cassie’s friends just gets Cassie in a way Aaron doesn’t. And of course Aaron hates it.
Cassie, while being with Aaron is emotionally vulnerable which may seem annoying considering she is financially independent and all but that, I think, is much realistic in the case of many emotionally abusive relationships. You see everyone around her being aware of her predicament as well as Cassie herself. I loved Marcy and Jules for being practical and truthful to Cassie, like she NEEDED practical wisdom from them although what pushed Cassie over the edge was very unfortunately not their advice, but we will get to that later.
Let’s start talking about Liam & Cassie. I felt like we could have seen their friendship era a bit more. In the beginning it felt like Liam came outta nowhere and they just did not have enough spark between them. However,gradually you see their emotional and romantic build-up, especially after Cassie’s breakup. Liam is so head over heels in love her, and *spoiler alert sort of* in his pov at the end you realize how potent his yearning for Cassie is. And don’t even make me start about how he was during the flood, I was going to eat my kindle😫 Liam and Cassie gave such shy girl x golden retriever guy energy that it hurt sometimes. This man would go to the end of the world for her and I wanted to really punch Cassie for not accepting that sooner.
Now I will discuss a bit about Cassie. At times I found her a little whiny. Her pov felt more like observing things and people around her at times rather than self reflection when she finally broke up with that pos. I believed her thought process could have been a bit more introspective instead of filled with, most of the time, confusions and insecurities. THAT’s when I was relieved when Cassie opened up to Liam about her emotions like YES GIRL WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR.
I will also mention some issues I had with the writing. There was misalignment I think¿ in the paragraphs which made it difficult to understand who was actually speaking. Alongside that, there were too many repetitions of similar scenes and even conversations that it made the book quite lengthy. Could have been a novel of around 300 pages but the constant repetition just prolonged it. Also… I noticed that most of the time Cassie would give the same sort of reply or would say the same kinda thing in a conversation and ngl it frustrated me.
Before ending it, I will just mention some parts I LOVED. AGAIN SPOILER ALERT
First of all, Cassie throwing lunch at Aaron and Tori like that was so funny & unpredictable, it had me wheezing. Aaron deserved everything and more of what was done to him.
Secondly, Liam rushing to Cassie from the airport? Had me gasping for air. WHERE CAN I GET A LIAM
Third is the date proposal thing like that man confirmed a reservation even before she said yes like I wanted to pounce on him.
Overall, (phew I said a a lot of things, bear with me) I liked this book. The found family, bickering, banter, not to mention Liam being Liam, him caring for Cassie, protective of her, fighting for her— all these made the book fun to read. Really looking forward to the upcoming books in the series❤️

I loved this book so much! I'm pretty sure I liked it so much because I could relate to Cassie's abusive relationship (probably a lot of women can). I loved the way that Cassie became more self aware in the abusive aspects of her relationship. The way her friends stood between her and the ex was amazing, they're her chosen family. Liam's patience with her & how their friendship turned into more slowly & almost 'organically' (if that makes sense) was soooo good. The love depicted, both familial & romantic, filled me full of happiness; & a little jealousy to be honest.
Cassie (FMC) is a real estate agent with her own office. She is successful, smart, resilient, & a people pleaser (this is a positive & a negative).
Aaron (douchebag, cheatin, gaslightin, abusive b*tch of a boyfriend turned ex)
Liam (MMC) is a blue collar man, travel boilermaker, respectful, patient, golden retriever energy with a little razzle dazzle of 'touch her & 💀' (or at least 'touch her & I'll beat you within an inch of your life').
Jules (sideFMC) , Mason (sideMMC), Danny (sideMMC & Jules' brother), Keith(sideMMC & Jules' brother)- amazing friend group. 2 more people join the group later in the book, Maddie (Mason's sister) & Autumn (Cassie's new employee) & her daughter, Rayna. This group of characters legitimately operate as a family. It's the family dynamic I've always wished I had, it's great. Rounding out the whole group is Claudia, (Jules, Danny, & Keith's mama); the mothering she does made me cry.
Tori (Keith's gf, cheatin, pathetic, lyin a** hoe) was also in the friend group early on, but left because she's gross.
Overall, great book, great characters, good development, & great flow of the story.

August 2, 2026I had the opportunity to read After the Fireworks, and I was especially excited about it because I was one of the selected readers who had the chance to read part of the manuscript before it became the finished book it is today.
After the Fireworks tells the story of a close-knit group of friends, but above all, it tells the story of Cassie Bryant.
Cassie is a brilliant young woman who has overcome many challenges in life and achieved great things. Yet, despite all her strength, she struggles with putting herself first. She finds herself in a relationship where she constantly feels like she has to tiptoe around her partner and walk on eggshells.
But then there are her friends. Some are chaotic, some are funny, and some manage to be a little bit of both. They each have their own personalities, but there are two things they all have in common: they are fiercely loyal and always there to support each other when it truly matters.
And for Cassie, having people like that around her might be more important than she realizes.
But will she realize in time that she deserves more? What will become the turning point in her life?
The answers to these questions—and many more—can be found in this book.
I genuinely enjoyed reading this book. It made me smile, kept me curious, and every chapter left me wanting more. Before I knew it, I had finished it in just four days. I truly loved this book and I’m so glad I was given the chance to read it.
This story follows Cassie who is in a completely toxic relationship. Her boyfriend Aaron is controlling, jealous, and mentally abusive. This is becoming more and more apparent in their friend group as they begin noticing how much it is breaking her down.
Liam is Cassie’s long term friend and though doesn’t talk very much, he is always there for her. As her relationship starts progressively getting worse, he reaches out more and makes sure she’s taking care of herself. When he witnesses how bad her relationship truly is, he isn’t able to stand back and watch the girl he cared about get beaten down.
I can not say how much I loved this book. It was a bit on the slower side for pacing, but I honestly think that is so fitting. I found it incredibly healing to read this story as it is so very close to a situation I experienced myself. It is so hard to leave a toxic relationship no matter how many people have your back and try to point out the flaws. Cassie is the embodiment of a true survivor, trying to find the good in the bad even if it breaks her down. I was attached to this book like glue for this reason.
Even after explosions, great things can come.

This was such a wonderful story. This story portrayed a toxic relationship perfectly. And it also went into the healing and growth when Cassie finally leaves. I scrolled through some of the reviews and to the ones that asked why she stayed so long, well, some of us hold the mentality that if we change, he’ll change. Mine was exactly that, but also, I didn’t want to be the one to cash it quits because then I was the failure that couldn’t hold a relationship together. I stayed for seventeen years…it’s not easy to walk away. So I applauded what Cassie finally decided enough was enough. Him cheating definitely pushed her out for sure. But I loved that Liam was there for her. Him and her friends were such a great support system. I loved how close they all were.
Him and Cassie though were really sweet. Both having had an attraction to one another. They pursued it perfectly. And they seemed to fall into a relationship really easily. Liam, I felt, could’ve been in the story more though. He was always working. And I wish there was more backstory on all of them. But overall, this was a wonderful story.

After the Fireworks was a sweet, emotional romance that kept me invested from beginning to end. The chemistry between the main characters felt genuine, and I really enjoyed watching their relationship develop as they navigated life after one unforgettable summer night. Their emotional growth and the small, heartfelt moments made it easy to root for them.
The story had a cozy, feel-good atmosphere with just enough angst to keep things interesting without becoming overly dramatic. While some parts were a little predictable and I found myself wanting a bit more depth in a few of the conflicts, it was still an enjoyable read that left me smiling.
Overall, this is a charming start to the series with lovable characters, plenty of heart, and a romance that will leave you excited to see what comes next. Definitely worth picking up if you’re in the mood for a heartfelt contemporary romance.

This book is one that captures you from the opening chapters. Author did an exceptional job of story writing and hitting you with the emotions that a person goes through during their relationships.
I definitely recommend this one and I’m looking forward to reading more from this series.

Emotions hit true
The feelings of the FMC in the first half of this book are so spot-on. I was sucked in and felt like I was living it. The romance and characters are sweet and loveable and I loved the HEA. Nice story!

This is a cute small town romance with a good dose of trauma mixed in. You're able to watch the FMC grow into something she never thought possible.

Cassie is the FMC stuck in a 10-year-long relationship with an emotionally abusive boyfriend. There is an extended friend group, where we meet Liam, the MMC who clearly cares about Cassie from the start. This story does well to represent the loneliness and unpredictability of being in an emotionally abusive relationship. However, it is hard to read for the first bit and could be triggering to anyone who has experienced this kind of relationship.
Readers are rewarded with the breakup and unity of Cassie’s friend group against the ex-boyfriend. Cassie and Liam explore their feelings and interactions while Liam navigates a traveling job and Cassie restarts her life.
What worked:
Found family
Ending the toxic relationship
Happier relationship and friends
Realistic portrayal of emotionally abusive relationship
Does well to set up subsequent books with this friend group
Loved the epilogue
What didn’t work:
I wish the breakup would have happened for just the every day stuff rather than the precipitating event - 10 years is a long time - I would have loved to see Cassie find her worth in those every day interactions with her friends.
The emotional abuse and loneliness is hard to read - but does so well to portray how even smaller interactions can deplete someone’s self-esteem and social circle - in any case, it could be triggering.
I wasn’t a fan of the casual physical interaction that jumped right to the bedroom. This seemed counter to the things that the FMC and MMC were navigating as far as a “bigger” commitment to each other. Then, in between, just no kisses or anything except hugs good-bye/hello around his job travel.
The author did a great job portraying Cassie noticing the differences in her life and friends before the breakup and after.
I am not sure how to categorize the spice. It’s there, but very brief, not detailed, and not frequent. I would conservatively rate it 1.5/5 - cracked door - but honestly kisses only books probably have more detailed descriptions than this book.

I wish the breakup would have happened for just the every day stuff rather than the precipitating event - 10 years is a long time - I would have loved to see Cassie find her worth in those every day interactions with her friends.
The emotional abuse and loneliness is hard to read - but does so well to portray how even smaller interactions can deplete someone’s self-esteem and social circle - in any case, it could be triggering.
I wasn’t a fan of the casual physical interaction that jumped right to the bedroom. This seemed counter to the things that the FMC and MMC were navigating as far as a “bigger” commitment to each other. Then, in between, just no kisses or anything except hugs good-bye/hello around his job travel.
The author did a great job portraying Cassie noticing the differences in her life and friends before the breakup and after.
I am not sure how to categorize the spice. It’s there, but very brief, not detailed, and not frequent. I would conservatively rate it 1.5/5 - cracked door - but honestly kisses only books probably have more detailed descriptions than this book.

Aaron and Cassie are toxic as hell, and I spent so much of this book wanting Cassie to wake up and leave. Aaron is a prick, and I genuinely did not think I could hate him more. The cheating, the excuses, and the lack of accountability made me furious.
Thankfully, we have Liam. Liam is probably one of my favorite things about this book. He does not just tell Cassie that he cares about her. He shows it. He makes time for her, notices her, listens to her, and shows up when it matters.
What I loved most about Cassie and Liam was the pacing. They did not fall in love in a day. They fell in love through the little things, the slow mornings, the conversations, and all those ordinary moments from when they were still friends. Their relationship felt earned.
I also loved that our main characters are normal people with normal jobs. It made them so much more relatable, and their problems and relationships felt grounded.
There was so much in this book that made me angry, but I was also completely invested. I hated Aaron, felt awful for Keith, wanted to shake Cassie more times than I can count, and completely fell for Liam.
After the Fireworks is about what happens after the heartbreak, the betrayal, and the life you thought you were going to have falls apart. Sometimes what comes after is better than what you thought you lost.

📖 Plot:
While the story felt a little slow and repetitive at times, I still really enjoyed it. There were a few scenes that felt unnecessary or redundant, but they weren't enough to take away from the overall experience. The emotional journey kept me invested, and I found myself rooting for these characters until the very end.
🖤 Characters:
My heart absolutely broke for Cassie. She deserved so much better after everything she endured. Aaron was a complete piece of... well, you know. 😒 Liam, on the other hand, was everything I wanted in a protective MMC. There was one point when he went back to work that had me frustrated with him because it felt like he was breaking both Cassie's heart and mine. Looking back, though, I know it was exactly what they both needed to grow.
🌶️ Spice:
I'm usually not a fan of fade-to-black or nearly fade-to-black romance, but Adria Forck handled it really well. The chemistry and emotional connection carried the romance without needing explicit scenes.

I absolutely loved the ending. I do wish Aaron had faced a little more justice for everything he put Cassie through, but I loved seeing the friend group stand by her and choose her. My only complaint is the epilogue. It simply says "a few years later," and I would have loved an actual timeline so I knew exactly how far into the future we were jumping.

After the fireworks was overall an enjoyable quick read about a found family. The small-town setting and close knit group of friends were easily my favorite part of the story, and I appreciated the realistic portrayal of emotional abuse and the importance of having people who support you through difficult situations.
I struggled to fully connect with the romance. Because Liam spent so much of the story away for work, I never felt as invested in his relationship with Cassie as I wanted to be. Their emotional connection felt a little underdeveloped, and I found myself more interested in the friendships than the romance itself. I also felt the pacing was uneven. Some moments, particularly surrounding the conflict and resolution with Aaron, felt rushed, while other parts slowed the story down. I would have loved more backstory for both main characters and a bit more buildup before some of the major emotional moments.
Overall this was a heartfelt book with strong themes of friendship, healing and the ability to start over.

The story follows Cassie, a realtor who has been stuck in a bad relationship with Aaron for the last ten years. When she catches him in bed with someone else, she finally decides it’s time to leave. Liam, one of Cassie’s close friends, steps in to help her through the breakup and move, alongside their other friends. The catch? Liam has been secretly in love with Cassie for years. As they grow closer, Cassie begins to realize she has feelings for him too.
Although there were no spicy scenes, I loved the moment Liam said “fuck it”. The slow burn was real. The epilogue and the bonus chapter from Liam’s POV put the perfect finishing touches on this story. I can’t wait to read Jule’s book next in the series!

After the Fireworks was such a warm comfort read! From handling toxic relationships and quiet abuse to found family and safe love this book is perfect for a cozy romance. I also love how it sets up future books and couples, like the Dream Harbor series. I'm definitely excited for Jules' book!
I do wish we'd had more back story between the main characters so it felt like their relationship was a little more developed; I also would have liked a little more resolution with the toxic ex but sometimes closure for things like that just doesn't happen.

Adria did an amazing job at portraying the feelings of Cassie. To be in a long term relationship but having the fear of actally leaving it i think can resonate with a lot of people. Aaron is an awful person, but Liam is the type of guy that everyone needs in their corner.
At times, the book felt a bit drawn out and I was expecting a twist or something major with Aaron by the end but that sort of just fizzled out.
This was the first book in a 4 book series and I cannot wait to see were Adria takes us with the other characters!

Captivated me
This story was a really great fast read. It was like reading a part of my own past. The way that the trauma is depicted in the story and the attachment to relationships even when they are unhealthy flowed very well and smooth. The constant and consistent love of others while never truly realizing it was placed in this story in a perfect way. All in all this was a really great book. I will be reading the second!

Good read.
I liked how brutally real the characters are. Cassie has had years of mental abuse from her boyfriend and even some physical abuse. So that could be a trigger if you're so triggered by those subjects. I'm glad for how it worked out with all the characters and it's well rounded and in-depth.
