DRAC - “The people that melt in the rain” wrecked me in the best way.

That flashback to 1955 in Romania... seeing how Vera and Drac ended up like that. The cookie, the snow globe... such small things, but they made my skin crawl because you could feel how wrong everything was.

In the present, watching Laura walk through that empty town gave me chills. You just _knew_ something was coming. And then the eclipse party. Drac grabbing Grace. Laura panicking and casting the freeze spell. And accidentally freezing the entire party. I was holding my breath.

My favorite moment was so quiet: Grace telling her friends how cute they are. In the middle of all that darkness, that little bit of light mattered so much.

The art is stunning as always. Drac looks terrifying, but you can also see the sadness in him.

You should read the earlier books first, but if you’re already with this series, #5 is such a strong, spooky, emotional chapter.

Dark, fun and full of surprises

Another fun and imaginative read from this author. Drac is a dark fantasy with an eerie atmosphere that kept me turning the pages. The mystery surrounding the creature trapped beneath the town and the old witch had me hooked from the start.

Laura is a great addition to the story, and I enjoyed seeing how her arrival begins to change everything. The author does a good job building tension while gradually revealing Drac's past and his desire for freedom. There are plenty of creepy moments, making this a perfect read for anyone who enjoys supernatural stories with a touch of horror.

An entertaining story with interesting characters and an ending that left me wanting more from this author. Just remember... kids, don't look under your bed!

Drac is an intriguing and atmospheric story filled with mystery, darkness, and the promise of freedom. I enjoyed the way the story introduces Drac, a creature trapped and controlled by the old witch, while Laura brings a powerful change to the town of Deluge.

Laura is a fascinating young character, and her connection with Drac adds an interesting emotional layer to the story. The tension surrounding the witch, Drac’s captivity, and Laura’s arrival kept me curious about what would happen next.

This is a captivating story with a unique concept, mysterious characters, and an engaging storyline. I especially enjoyed the idea of Laura becoming the force that could change Drac’s fate. A great read for anyone who enjoys dark fantasy, supernatural elements, and stories about breaking free from the past.

Drac is one of those stories that sneaks up on you. It starts off feeling like a normal small town tale with a new girl named Laura trying to settle into her weird new home called Deluge. But little by little you realize something dark has been hiding right next door the whole time waiting for its chance. By the end everything comes to a head at what should have been a fun eclipse party and Laura is the only one who can actually do something about it while everyone around her is literally frozen and helpless. What I liked most is the message underneath it all. Kids notice things adults miss and sometimes the bravest thing you can do is speak up even when you feel small and scared. It is a quick read but it stays with you and leaves you wanting to know what happens next. If you like stories that mix everyday life with something a little unsettling this one is worth checking out.

Drac is a captivating supernatural tale filled with mystery, unusual characters, and a wonderfully spooky atmosphere. From the beginning, the story creates questions that make you curious about what is really happening beneath the town. Laura adds an important and interesting dimension to the plot, and I enjoyed watching her become part of Drac’s unusual world. The story reveals its secrets at a steady pace, keeping the suspense alive while giving Drac’s character more depth. The writing is easy to follow, and the combination of fantasy, suspense, and creepy moments makes this an enjoyable read. A creative story for anyone looking for something mysterious, entertaining, and slightly chilling.

The story follows a strange and unsettling series of events in Deluge, where the protagonist finds herself surrounded by mysteries involving the supernatural, strange creatures, an old woman named Vera, and the mysterious Drac. The story moves between the present and Vera’s past, gradually revealing that the strange events happening in the town are connected to something much bigger.

I really liked the writing because it builds suspense gradually instead of explaining everything at once. The story has a dreamlike, eerie quality, and the transitions between different events and time periods keep the reader curious about what is actually happening. The darker scenes, unusual creatures, rain, and changing colours create a creepy atmosphere without needing excessive description.

Overall, I found this book an interesting and atmospheric continuation of the series. The combination of supernatural elements, suspenseful writing, and distinctive artwork makes it enjoyable, especially for readers who like strange and mysterious stories. The cliffhanger ending also leaves enough curiosity to make you want to know what happens next.

This book is a wonderfully strange and atmospheric continuation of the series. Set in Deluge, the story blends everyday small-town life with increasingly bizarre supernatural events; frogs falling from the sky, a mysterious creature hiding next door, a strange forest that seems to be spreading, and animals becoming more dangerous.
What stood out most is how naturally the supernatural elements are woven into ordinary life. Vera Winston initially seems like a harmless elderly neighbor, making the revelation about Drac hiding in her house particularly effective. The chapters, including “The Snow Globe” and “The Solar Eclipse,” add different layers to the growing mystery without explaining everything too quickly.
The artwork complements the story beautifully, especially in the contrast between familiar settings and unsettling creatures.

Really fun continuation of the series! Loved the flashback to 1955 Romania showing how Vera ended up with Drac trapped in her house, the cookie and snow globe scene was such a clever, creepy way to show it. The present-day stuff with Laura wandering the empty town had good build-up, and the ending at the eclipse party was intense, Drac grabbing Grace, Laura trying the freeze spell, and then accidentally freezing the whole party! Great cliffhanger. Loved the scene where grace shows her friends so cute.
Art is gorgeous as always, Drac is properly creepy looking. Definitely a "read the earlier issues first" kind of book, but if you're already in this series, it's a solid, spooky entry. Can't wait for #6

The Drac by Carolyn Watson is a short, imaginative children’s story that takes a fresh, whimsical look at creatures often kept hidden under the bed. Instead of a scary monster, Dubisch introduces the "Drac" a curious, misbehaving creature that seems to be the quiet source of everyday household mischief.

Written with a lighthearted touch, the book turns classic childhood fear on its head. The narrative relies on simple, playful rhyme schemes that make it a pleasure to read aloud to younger children. Rather than feeling threatened, young readers are invited to laugh at the Drac’s silly antics, turning a potential night-time terror into a playful companion.

This book is my first introduction to this story. Even though this issue starts with chapter 9, I was able to grasp what was happening. For me, it was a pretty compelling story. It ended with a kind of cliffhanger and I'd like to see happens next. I am also interested in reading the previous issues.
