Chante Britt is nobody’s fool—and she’s definitely not standing by her cheating ex-fiancé and current mayoral candidate, Robert Montgomery. Too bad he chose to tell the media otherwise. To escape an onslaught of prying reporters, Chante flees to her grandmother’s South Carolina beach house. But when she meets Zach Harrington, she may be out of the frying pan and into the fire. The man is arrogant, way too forward—and way too sexy…
Newly divorced and dealing with a scandal of his own, Zach should stay clear of all women. Yet something about Chante draws him in—maybe it’s the drink she throws in his face after his too-hot-to-handle surprise kiss. Still, Zach firmly believes they can help each other take the edge off. And once he gets her to agree, what could have been a fling promises to be much more—until their personal and public dramas catch up with them. Will past wrongs keep them from finally having the love that’s right?
Cheris Hodges was bitten by the writing bug at an early age and always knew she wanted to be a writer. She is a 1999 graduate of Johnson C. Smith University and a freelance writer in Charlotte, North Carolina. A native of Bennettsville, South Carolina, Cheris loves hearing from her readers.
Pick this book up and you wouldn’t be able to put it down. I love Chante and Zach story. If you looking for a hot steamy novel, this is the one. This novel takes you into the political world. It really makes you wonder how much it takes for a Politician to get into office.
Another SEXY addition to this political action romance series...Zachary and Chante are INSTANTLY and passionately attracted to each other...and once AGAIN amidst all the drama is a bit of comic relief between Zach, Chante and the rest of the cast of characters...Robert is still annoyingly INSANE...it's also NICE catching up w/Liza and Jackson...Chante's Granny is quite a COLORFUL and lively addition...Chante's mama was AWFUL...and Zach's sister Zoe and Agent Carter Banks give a teasing glimpse into the next book...can't wait! Also hope Gabby gets a HEA too!
“Look at all these rumors, surrounding me everyday… I just need some time, some time to get away...”
Chante Britt headlines this saga following her discovery that her sheisty fiancé, Robert Montgomery, was cheating on her with a prostitute, ending their relationship and his political candidacy for senator. Zach Harrington is trying to get away from the lies upon discovering that his wife, Natalie, is a madame and was running an exclusive escort service. Both Chante and Zach seek refuge on the beach away from the paparazzi. A chance meeting ignites sparks and chemistry. A whirlwind affair with no ties seems enchanting until their problems find them in the midst of their tryst.
‘You can run, but you can't hide’ is true for these two love birds, although they suffer because of their choice of mates. When secrets come to light, and feelings evolve, will the two be able to walk away from something so electric and magnetic and fight the wolves that wait with bated breath? Love is in the air, innocence is prevalent but envy, betrayal, corruption, lies, and revenge burn even brighter. Which will prevail, the lies, the truth or the rumors?
“I Heard a Rumor” was a pleasant read with engaging characters, scorching sex scenes, and visual scenarios. A consistent storyline and realistic plots proved to be tasteful ingredients but it lacked any true originality or excitement.
The storyline was funny, sweet, hot and heartfelt. I was drawn in from the first page until the end, I read it in one sitting.
Both Chante & Zach were such strong characters, loved their personalities and the way they brought out all these emotions from one another. They truly made this book a fun read with their banter and smoking hot chemistry.
I highly recommend this book.
Thank you Kensington Books - Dafina via NetGalley for the advance copy.
I picked this book because of the mention of politics and scandal on the blurb and it turned out to be a very welcome surprise with an empowering message and I really enjoyed it. This book really lives up to its name, with all the rumors and scandals the characters found themselves embroiled in. This story will have you wondering about the lengths politicians will go to get into public office.
Chante Britt seems to be a scandal magnet through no fault of her own. She can't seem to shake her cheating ex-fiancé whom she broke up with after the discovery of his affairs, leading to the crash and burn of his political career. Now he's dragged her back into the limelight with his claims of a reconciliation with her, with some misguided hope that the supposed reconciliation would sway the voters into forgiving his indiscretions and voting him in as Mayor. Her job is on the line because of the negative publicity and she needs to lay low for a bit, away from the city. Well, that vacation doesn't turn out to be the quiet one she's hoping for as an unexpected meeting with a hot guy at the hotel bar turns in to a fling that brings with it media attention because her fling is running away from his own scandal.
Zach Harrington's life has been turned upside down with the discovery that his now ex-wife was running a highly sought after escort service out of their home, news that has negatively impacted his business and stepping away is the only way for the company to recover. Unfortunately for Zach, travelling thousands of miles away does not help because he finds himself tangled up in fresh scandal.
Chante and Zach must be two of the most unlucky people in the world in view of how much drama they were involved in and at some point I threw up my hands in defeat, but I loved every bit of it. From her issues with her mom, to the differences of opinions with her boss, to her struggle to set up her own firm, there was always something new coming up. Never underestimate a vindictive or delusional ex with an agenda and the hunger of the paparazzi to be the bearers of salacious news. I liked that Chante took charge of her life and fought back hard against all the gossip. I also enjoyed her relationship with Zach and the bond they shared even though they made a few missteps that almost cost them everything.
There were a few minor issues but my biggest was with the sexy times and the number of scenes such that that I took to skimming over them. In spite of that, this was an enjoyable read and I'll be looking out for more from this author.
Disclaimer: I received this book for free from the Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
this just wasn't my book. i could not even finish it yet. i think it is simply a matter of taste though and not necessarily the author's writing ability. i just simply cannot abide female characters that want to live in their mothers' vaginas. it seems pretty childish and quite frankly ridiculous. never read the first book but felt sorry for the bestie just based on how this character described the events prior and herself. maybe this is someone else's cup of tea.
This is a hilarious story about best friends, Liza and Chante and their psycho ex-friend Robert.
The underhanded politics, the betrayal, and the revenge by Robert, makes this book a real page-turner. But the frequent, repetitious sex scenes totally overwhelmed and slowed down the pace of, what could have been, a really great story!
Wow! Awesome series. I questioned Richard, was it me or was he just out of his Rabbit mind to think Lisa and Chante owed him something? He was a total joke. Great sisterhood between Lisa and Chante with much love and respect. Loved it, loved it, loved it.
I can’t say I didn’t like this book, but I also can’t say I had a great time reading it. While I liked the general storyline, I found the language used by the author (especially regarding the sex scenes) to be… weird. It was as if she couldn’t decide on writing it as a historical with puckering and throbbing buds of desire and sweet nectars but with the amount of sex usually seen in erotica since our main couple has sex literally every time they see each other. Then there was the actual selection of words for the imagery that didn’t work for me at all, for example: ..."As he slid his finger between her wet folds of flesh..." this just made me see two pieces of raw steak slapped together, not the image you want in your head at that time (or any for that matter).
Basically, the story is about Chante, a lawyer who is just getting over her cheating ex-fiancée’s sex scandal and his subsequent fall from politics and all the problems this has caused her. Now he is running for Mayor and, in a misguided attempt to get the people of Charlotte backing him again, is telling the press that she has forgiven him and they are back together... without her knowing.
Sick of the press harassing her, she goes back home to stay with her Grandma who turns out to be currently on a cruise while her house is being renovated. Luckily Granny made reservations for her in a B&B in town.
There she’ll meet Zach, who is a New York real estate mogul. He's actually running from his own sex scandal. Not that he did anything wrong, but his ex-wife turned out to be a Madame, and has started a smear campaign against him because besides being a disgusting human being, she's downright evil.
Both of them clearly have issues when it comes to trust in the opposite sex, but they can’t fight their chemistry for long.
And thus begins a none stop succession of rumors started by her unbalanced ex-fiancée, then his biotch of an ex-wife, then just the media conjecturing… and so on, and so on, ad nauseam. It got to the point where I would just think, really? Again?? Then there was the whole issue between Chante and her mother, the things with her ex-firm, then her new firm, his problem with his company... It felt like things kept popping up left and right just to lengthen the book and fill in the story line.
Oh well, while I did enjoy their romance the rest of the book (and there was a lot of it) fell kind of flat for me. It was just an ok read.

While this book can be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading Rumor Has it first before tackling I Heard A Rumor.
The title of this book is perfect because I heard many rumors about the main characters before I really got to know them. Zach and Chante are both dodging the media while trying to leave their crazy exes behind. As we find out, that's easier said than done.
Chante is trying to put her life back together after a broken engagement. She's lost her job and any sense of privacy for the time being. Running away from the media circus in her town, she goes to Charleston where she meets Zach Harrington; a man who is trying to separate himself from scandal back home in New York City.
What starts off as a vacation fling quickly turns into something more for both of these characters. However, will Zach stay by Chante's side when more rumors start to circulate about her? When Zach's ex-wife starts to wreak havoc, will Chante stay for the long haul and see pass the lies?
I enjoyed this story and loved the chemistry between these two. They had a deep connection which proved to be vital as they had to weather a few storms early in their relationship. They were both scorned by their exes and their reputations almost tarnished. They both knew the feeling of putting their trust in someone and then finding out that everything they knew about their partner was a lie.
This book had quite a few twists and turns as we got to dive into the world of politics. While I appreciated the unexpected turns, some of the drama these two went through seemed a bit unnecessary at times and I felt like some parts of the book dragged a bit. However, I Heard A Rumor was a solid read and Zach and Chante realized that their love was strong enough to withstand any rumors they had to endure.
I Heard a Rumor by Cheris Hodges is a reader’s guide into deep realistic side of being plunged into a political battle where everything can go wrong so fast. I loved how real the characters were and how they portrayed real life in a fictional way. Intriguing, hot, and suspenseful read. I could not get enough of Cheris Hodges amazing novel. Readers will fall hard and fast for this writer’s talent with words. One remarkable story told in the most heated ways possible.
I Heard a Rumor by Cheris Hodges in indeed a must read. Readers will be taken into two characters’ lives. A woman lawyer whose whole life gets turned upside down all due to a man whom she thought was the one for her. It turns out that he’s nothing but a cheating jerk who will use anyone to get his way. She looses her job in a firm and heads out for a vacation. A vacation where one very hot sexy man does all he can to pry her open and read all her layers. But then she does the same for him. He’s pretty much in the same boat as her. A woman he married turned out to be nothing but a blackmailing and sex ring leader. The FBI are now after her and she’s doing all she can to make her husband sink down with her. Can Cheris Hodges two characters find a connection with one another and find a way to fix their lives once they resurface back to their worlds?
I highly recommend reading I Heard a Rumor. It’s not only hot, sexy, and refreshing but also gives readers a sense of what real politics is like. I thinking this is one fictional read that will forever lure readers in an educational and entertaining way. Overall, I loved reading it and no everyone else will too. I rate it a five out of five stars.
I'm not a huge fan of romance novels. But there are a few romance authors that I absolutely love. One of them happens to be Cheris Hodges. Cheris is a writer of romance and boy can she write some steamy sex scenes. But, she never writes them over the top or tasteless. That's one of the reasons why I'm such a huge fan of hers. The other reason and the #1 reason is because Cheris puts her heart and soul into each book she writes. I can feel the emotions of the characters as I read page after page. She also does a thorough research of the topic/subject matter in her novels.
In I Heard a Rumor, it's the follow up story to Rumor Has It. Chante Britt and her sorority sister and best friend, Liza Palmer-Franklin, Chante's crazy ex, Robert Montgomery are back along with Liza husband, Senator Jackson Franklin. Throw in a few more characters and a new love interest for Chante, by the name of Zack Harrington, some scandals and a whole lot of rumors and you have yourself a page turning novel.
Chante & Zack happened to end up on Charleston, SC at the same time in hopes of escaping the drama that has engulfed their lives. But, they soon find out that they're not safe from rumors, drama and the media. Will Chante & Zack's past destroy what could possible be a great future with each other? I Heard a Rumor is more than a story involving politicians, scandals, rumors, family issues and romance but, also a story of women becoming liberating and taking control of their lives.
I am reviewing this book for netgalley and this is my honest review Chante and Zach had found a relationship when they meet up at a bed and breakfast in Charleston where they both was vacation at. Chante was getting away from her ex and all the problems back in Charlotte and Zach was getting away from all the trouble his ex-wife had brought to his door. They relationship had started of rocky because Chante didn't like to be hit on and Zach was only interested in a one night stand then. When they got to know each other thing started to heat up until they ex's try to get in they way. They had stand by each other through all of that had made the best couple that they want to be. This book has a lot of twist and turn and it will leave you not wanting to put the book down i had love this book and i can't wait until i hear about Zoe and Teresa story i know it will be interesting stories.
I will recommend this book to anyone who read it but first they have to read the first book in the series
***Netgalley ARC for honest review*** Chante Britt and Zach Harrington have found that they have some things in common, an ex they can't seem to get rid of. In spite of the baggage they both have from their previous relationships, when these two meet the attraction is undeniable. Chante decides to fight the attraction she feels which won't be easy since Zach is determined to pursue her. With their ex's still wreaking havoc in all around them, Chante and Zach are questioning if love is better the second time around. Overall I enjoyed Chante and Zach's story, although I felt it dragged a little in some parts. There is plenty of romance and sizzling love scenes. The drama with the ex's made for some exciting scenes, especially the last one with Chante and her ex, Robert. What I loved about Zach was that no matter how many roadblocks Chante put up between them he was determined to either go through them or around them to have the woman he loved. I give I Heard a Rumor 3.5 stars.
Chante can't escape scandal and innuendo. She escapes to Charleston when an ex embroils her in a scheme to win public approval for his mayoral campaign, and meets a man with his own ex problems. Their first encounter ignites fireworks, but not the romantic kind, but it's not long before Chante and Zach are playing pretend couple to appease her marriage-minded mother.
Throughout the story, they dodge the media (who want to know about her "involvement" with the cheating Robert and his ex-wife, the "Harlem Madame") and succumb to passion at the B&B where they met, on the beach...all over the place. :) Their romance takes them through moments of personal and professional growth and finally away from the obstacles threatening their relationship.
This is a fun read - funny in parts and dramatic in others. I had not read the first book in this series, and I think that would help to become familiar with the entire story.
Cheris Hodges is not an author I was familiar with. However, I Heard a Rumor is published by Kensington Books so I requested it based on their reputation. I was not disappointed. I have only read a very few books concerning politicians that I truly enjoyed. Noe I can add this book to that list.
I cannot imagine more going wrong in previous relationships for these two main characters, Chante and Zach. Both have been betrayed making it big news in the political arena. These two could easily sympathize with each other even if they did not fall hot and heavy for each other. Their exs are just the kind of characters I love to loathe. No doubt who is the bad guys here.
Very good first read by new author for me. I will be looking for more by her now.

I did enjoy reading this book. But i felt it could have been a little better. Chante is finally getting her life back together after he broken engagement. While on vacation she meets a man that could possibly change her view on love. But will he atay by her side when rumors circulate about her. She hopes that he will. Zach is dealing with his own divorce so he decides to go on a little vacation. After a drink is thrown in hia face he realizes that he might have just found the woman for him. But when his ex comes around he wants his new love to stay for the long haul.
Throughout the book both Chante and Zach are trying to move foward with their lives. They realize that their love is stronger then any rumor of their past. By the end they fall more in love with each other and get engaged. I did like this book. But i thought it was slow in some parts. But overall it is a good read.
I really enjoyed the first half of this book but was hoping for more from the characters.
I liked the chemistry between Zach and Chante in the beginning. Their week fling worked to forget about their reality. I did feel that the sex scenes were a bit forced. I know trust was an issue between both due to their past relationships but I was hoping that this duo would have stormed the castle. That they would have trusted each other and fought their pasts together instead of handling them separately.
I also thought that Zach's sister should have vetted the ex-wife before the I do's . I know that there wouldn't have been a story if so but I thought it was odd that no one knew what the ex was up to.
I received an ARC through NetGalley for a honest review
Talk about two people getting screwed over by love! Chante and Zach are both trying to get away from very unpleasant scandals in which their exes have ruined aspects of their lives. A chance meeting with a hilarious drink incident leads to a vacation fling that should end when that vacation ends. But nothing is simple when it comes to the heart - or to the ravenous appetite of the media, the entitlement and greed of an ex, or the urge to take back your life! Enjoyable read and worth a look. Check out Hodges' previous book about Chante's best friend Liza to start the whole convoluted scandal from the beginning!
I enjoyed this book, though it was slow in the beginning. Rumors are flying about both Chante and Zach. The sad thing is, neither one of them is responsible for their respective media nightmare. They both go on vacation to escape the chaos. Zach first lays eyes on Chante when she enters a bar. They're both looking for anonymity and peace, what they find is love.
Their identities are eventually discovered and Exs reemerge, but zach and Chante discover that what they have with which each other is worth weathering any rumor.
I received an ARC of this book, via Net Galley, in exchange for a fair and honest review.
My first ever Cheris Hodges Book and it will not be the last, the author has a great flair with not only her characters plot and story line but too her writing as well.
The storyline was great it was super funny, sweet and caring, and yes hot and sincere. I was drawn in right from the start and until the end, I read it quickly because it was that good.
Chante & Zach were such strong and very likeable characters, I adored both of their personalities and the way the author brought out all of there emotions was spot one.
They made this book so fun too read especially with their banter back and forth and seriously hot chemistry.
Chante Brit has broken off with Robert. Robert wants to use her for his own purpose, to make himself look good. Chante wants nothing to do with him and has decided to take a break and visit with her grandmother. Grandmother is out of town but has left a reservation for Chante at hotel in town. Zach has just has a divorce and is dealing with a scandal that is not of his doing. He also wants to get away for awhile. He goes to the same hotel as Chante.
They meet each other in the bar at the hotel. What happens after that is the story. A good story. I Heard A Rumor, by Cheris Hodges, found this book at my local library.
I really like this book I was looking for more it kept you turning page after page. Love New found love she was hurt my the man she thought love her Just so her mother would be happy ,wrong way to live you have to live for yourself never worry about what people think of you just live your life be happy and if you make a mistake learn from it. Can't wait for the next one
Politics and a scandal make for a lot of drama, tension, and angst.. Throw in two scorned people who have been burned by their exes.. That makes for a great story with sparks that ingnite.. Chante and Zach both had their worlds rattled thanks to her cheating fiancé and his ex wife's new career choice.. Both exscape to get away from the drama and their worlds collide.. Only things won't be easy with both their exes being in the spotlight. Good strory.. Great characters.. Over all 4 star read!
An empowering story that mixes romance and politics. Ms. Hodges writes female characters that have a sensuous aura but are also role models in other areas. Chante is a woman who will not be anyone's arm candy. She loves with her entire being but she will not be made a fool of. She knows what she wants and goes after it wholeheartedly. Chante and Zach are mirror images of each other personality wise. I received an ARC of I Heard a Rumor in exchange for an honest review.
This was another great book from a wonderful Author Cheris Hodges! You did it again, I could not put it down until I read the whole book from the beginning to the end! I love to read all of the books by Cheris Hodges she has a way of making you feel everything that the characters are going through. You're happy ,sad, mad, angry, and then you feel the Love! I would definitely recommend this book to read!
