The title suits the content. It’s a light read and can be completed by a fast reader in not more than one and a half hour.
One good thing about this book is that it is written in simple language. Hence it can be helpful in elevating your mood when feeling low.
One not so good thing is that there’s nothing new, everything has been grabbed and pasted. Still because of the simplicity and size I would not hesitate to recommend it to someone looking for motivation.
The book is available for free @kindle.

This very brief e-book was just okay. I thought there were some very quotable quotes and a few goods ideas, but overall, there just wasn't much to take away from the book. The writing & editing weren't great, and even knowing how short it was, it was still hard to push through some of the pages because of that.

Some of the quotes I liked were "There are no failures, only outcomes - as long as I learn something, I am succeeding," which was actually the author quoting an example of an empowering belief from Tony Robbins; "One of the best ways to reduce stress is to accept the things that you cannot control"; and "Realistic thinking is where real hope is found; helping us hit the right balance between realism and aspirations."

I had actually decided to read this book for a prompt in my 2017 Ultimate Popsugar Reading Challenge, a book with career advice, because I've had trouble finding a book for that & I thought this would probably be helpful in an across-the-board sense of freeing your mind to focus on what matters (work at the office, etc.). However, I really can't justify using this e-book to fulfill that prompt, or any others.

Overall, it just read like a lot of ideas thrown together, and then the author realized he needed more to call it a book, so he added in the actual anecdotes & research from others, which was often interesting. It seemed like maybe at that point, it still wasn't long enough, so then there is just a lot of aimless rambling and random sentences that seem to pop up from nowhere and may or may not actually fit into the topic being discussed. I may check out some of the resources he lists in the notes at the back of the book for more information on the ideas that he mentioned briefly, but didn't discuss enough to get the point across. Sorry to be such a downer, but I just didn't get much out of this book. If it had been much longer, it probably would have been a DNF for me.

A Realistic Take on the Subject

This book exceeded my expectations. It has a grounded perspective that is refreshing amidst a sea of questionable advice. The perils of toxic positivity are pointed out and a realistic approach is espoused. References are provided that serve as pointers to further information. The sources referenced are mostly from popular media but are generally reputable. The book was well-written and entertaining. I would recommend it as a good starting point for people looking to get unstuck from unhelpful patterns of thought.

Written in simple language for uplifting your mood and providing you with a brief motivational boost. It has reminders about the power of imagination and living in the present moment.

It's a decent option for those seeking a brief motivational read, but it may not satisfy those looking for deeper insights or actionable advice.

Fell in love with this book! I have always affirmed that imagination is the key to unlock creativity. This books very beautifully combined it and realistic thinking to balance our aspirations and dreams.

FOMO- Fear of missing out is kind off phobia now where people mostly in FB portray or rather seem to portray that they are always having more fun or excitement, this has made people paralyzed and glued to their PCs or tablets. This aspect was aptly covered. It will be an eye opener for many!

DOSE- Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin and Endorphins - Loved the write up about these chemicals as always :-)

Excessive thinking or overthinking I feel arise only out of insecurities, lack of trust and the need to be dominant on something or be obsessed. This combined with concept of time gets us stressed up.

Time is an illusion. It is better considered as opportunity I feel , a tool to make our lives better, so why to always rush up, why to always push our limits, why cant we take sometime to see the beautiful butterflies, dew drops on the grass or the birds sing or just feel the breeze caress our face.

The concept of false reality wrt to online dating is not my cup of tea. So I don't wish to comment on that.

Loved the chapter on empowering beliefs as that's the need for the day for many people.

*** The past does not equal my future.
***There are no failures, only outcomes - as long as I learn something I am succeeding.
***I create my own destiny.

This book affirmed me that I see myself more as an author of my life rather than a character in the story of my life.

:-)

It was ok. Lots of obvious ideas on how to free your mind...nothing ground breaking.

I did enjoy the following three quotes:

"Yes - your brain is currently more powerful than any supercomputer in the world."

M.P Neary (2015-04-23). Free Your Mind (Kindle Location 62). martyneary. Kindle Edition.

"the power of realistic thinking. This requires us to take on board the good facts about us when they arise and not just obsess over the bad things. So if someone says a great thing about us then we must learn to savor it"

M.P Neary (2015-04-23). Free Your Mind (Kindle Locations 93-95). martyneary. Kindle Edition.

"Happiness shouldn’t be determined by what happens to us entirely, but also by the choices we make."

Free Your Mind by M. P. Neary is a short, quick read and, as a rule, I find these reads nothing but self promotional and fluff, but this one was a very pleasant surprise. Neary writes with authority, using verifiable science to back up his assertions. There's plenty of humor in this brief E book, but it's also a packed chock full of valuable information for those who want to learn how to live a more fulfilling, self-directed life. This is a book that I will be recommending to anyone who's looking to improve the quality of their lives.

When reading this book, one word comes to mind 'Practical'. So fed up of the Zig Ziglars and Dale Carnegies. This book seems to be a refreshing change from the others, and offers realistic advice....

It is a short read with 9 quick chapters guiding readers towards freeing up their mind to set their soul free and live a satisfactory life.

The title Free Your MInd is apt for the book as in this book, the author has told different ways and obstructions from which you need to free your mind.

It is a short yet impactful read. The subject is serious but the author has tried to bring humor so that the readers do not end up on a serious note after reading this book. It is light-hearted read with concepts and context written in a concise manner.

While scrolling through kindle, I randomly landed to this book and its title caught my attention. Then, what next? I could not stop myself from starting to read this book. And I must say I won’t regret picking up this book. It is worth reading. It has practical examples and tools to guide the readers in achieving their goals towards a fulfilling life.

It is beginner-friendly but can act as a reminder for someone who is struggling in life.

For me, reading this book was a loud stop sign, if stop signs can make noise.

I enjoyed the fact that Neary offers readers the opportunity to break away from thinking habits and learned patterns. An old phrase that comes to mind is "in a rut". In my thinking, I found myself in a rut. As having been raised, in part, by farmers, I am aware that it makes for a hard day of tractor work when the tractor (another tool humans use) finds & follows a rut from a former day and resists the farmer's hand upon the steering wheel. Every day in life, ideally, should be approached anew, in my opinion. "Tomorrow's sun will not make an appearance in today's sky; and, today is not yesterday!"
Thank you for the book.

Not exactly going to change my life but it took me like 20mins to read and it was light and uplifting without being too in your face.

“Happiness shouldn’t be determined by what happens to us entirely, but also by the choices we make.”

“Remember too that we can all throw ourselves a lifeline – not a deadline - by appreciating just how precious life really is in the present moment. Peaceful, enduring happiness right now.”

“Realistic thinking can help you make better choices in your life.”

“Mindfulness is one answer I believe: enabling the mind to break free from mindless chatter; reducing excessive thinking; finding the stillness of the present moment.”

“So why choose to be so pessimistic? Instead, why not choose the power of your imagination mixed with realistic thinking to create a happier state of mind? Why not expect good things to happen, problems to be overcome, a robust Earth, loving relationships and a mind free from unnecessary fears?”

Written like a beat-poet's stream of consciousness journal and formatted with all the elegance of a myspace post, Free Your Mind offers a thousand ways to do just that. Free. Your. Mind. Author M.P.Neary weaves pop-culture references of GOT, The Matrix and Rihanna twerking with self-improvement advice from Tony Robbins and Eckhart Tolle and a dash of clinical research and a ton of question marks. The result is a patchwork quilt of entertaining, perplexing and motivating wisdoms that will spin your mind round and round (like a record), tumble it down a rabbit hole and ultimately set it on the path to freedom.

A shallow, 14 citation piece that blabs about the ironic intricacies of the brain when in fact Neary himself writes in the most childish way explaining the steps toward 'happiness.' To summise the 4 points, his advice is, 'sad? don't be sad. depressed? don't be depressed.' The pathetic attempts at humor just add to the arrogant tone of the entire 40 page long book. Literal bullshit, precisely what I expect from 'empowerment' books written by sallow, middle aged authors. Neary also has the nerve to promote another book of his within this, going as far as listing it as a citiation and describing it as an 'inspiring and entertaining read'. A shame you can't give half star ratings on here.

If you are wandering here and there for some motivational stuff. Then this book book is for you. Thin book won't take much time to complete. I had read this book in one day. Full of encouraging words. This good book for those who want to spend little time on reading and want to gain more.

I hadn't read other books of this author. His writing is simple yet powerful. I would love to read more from this author in near future. That's it for now.

Very practical short read on decluttering our brain and hence preventing oneself from falling into the cycle of negativity, limited beliefs and hopelessness.

"If this false, digital reality is causing you any harm at all, then remember this: it’s just an ocean of ones and zeros floating high in the ether. It’s not real. Free your mind completely. Hit the ‘Off’ switch or choose the red button on your remote i.e. the one that means POWER."

Short but liked it.

I know the research, scientifically, and so this can be considered by anyone as playing on academia, but it’s not. It’s a great little book, that for those who choose to not read extensive psychological theory papers and studies, presents bite-sized nuggets of scientific “truths” as close as theory can get to to truth. I’d recommend it to students. Maybe not a PhD candidate, but certainly someone looking for insight to an easier, safe, way of thinking.

"Realistic thinking is where real hope is found; helping us hit the right balance between realism and aspirations. Realistic thinking enables us see real opportunities right in front of us and not create ones that don’t really exist."

It totally makes sense! In fact it is not positive thinking that chances your live but rather realistic thinking...
