Rate this book

This has been my favorite Naseem Hijazi novel so far. I especially like the very intelligent way in which the different resistance movements have been woven together, with El Zagal's independent movement as well as independent youth movements given attention.

The fall of Granada was not one big war, and it happened almost a century after the rest of Andalus, after it was granted lifeline after lifeline.

What I really liked though was that the book highlighted the multifaceted personalities of the characters especially Boabdil. Here he was rebelling against his own father in a power hungry surge and then suddenly he was on the battlefield fighting bravely on the front lines. I always found him to be an enigmatic character after reading how much sorrow he had felt on the fall of Granada although he had been the cause for it.

It really illustrated how power corrupted but also that it takes a lot to burn out a nations fighting spirit, until the end the Moors had some fight left in them.

Naseem Hijazi also illustrated very well that there is often a fine line between compromising tactically and for unity and just being spineless. I always find it shocking how the Muslims and later the Jews were treated during the period of the Reconquista and perhaps it could be considered one of the darkest periods of European history.

Another book by an eminent author, Naseem Hijazi, reminding us that those who do not learn from the history are bound to repeat it with dire consequences.

In this book, Hijazi told us the story of people present at the death bed of the Muslim age of Spain. The reasons were similar to what every nation goes through during their fall; lack of interest in the well-being of society as a whole, moral degradation, losing sight of their goals, and of course, the traitors within. He stressed the point that God may forgive the sins of individual human beings, but not the collective blunders of a nation.

Similarly, people of Spain were warned repeatedly by the visionaries of that time but 'God only helps those who help themselves', and clearly these people did not help themselves. It is true that there were people who stood up against tyranny and injustices of that time but it was too little and too late. Fuel to the flame were the traitors within Muslims who, for their personal comfort, sold the honor and dignity of the nation.

Translation: "Shaheen" is a book by Naseem Hijazi that, in my opinion, is a magnificent piece of writing. The stories in this book have touched my heart, and I highly recommend it to others. Naseem Hijazi has written his story in the best way possible, and it finds a place in the hearts of readers. This book includes stories, historical facts, wars, love, and fictional events. Through "Shaheen," I have seen a new world, and I really enjoyed this book."

One of my professors asked me a while back on how Muslims got kicked out of Spain, and I wouldn't know the right answer if it weren't for this book. Naseem Hijazi has done a great service to Urdu literature by producing such historically accurate novels with their own fictional elements that are equally interesting.

It had an outstanding effect on my mentality and gave me some directions to my fictional world. Written really finely. One thing that attracted me the most was the style of writing and portraying the scenery so nicely that it just sat in there in my mind like forever. The musculine romance with powerful emotions is the best part.
May be it stuck in my mind because it's the first novel I've read or maybe because of the concrete and solid writing of nasim hijazi but whatever the reason was, it was really great. A friend recommended it and said I'd ask for his further writings to read and the claim went on point. Now I'm reading his another legendary writing called "Mu'azzam Ali". And the same charisma. Hope his further writings would be of the same power and impact.......

This novel gives you a very big lesson: LEARN FROM HISTORY OR YOU ARE BOUND TO REPEAT IT!

This novel has emphasised on what happens when you betray your own country and how nature gives you a second chance to come on the right track and if you don't avail that chance, then you are bound to be doomed.

Great work from Naseem Hijazi, my historical knowledge has increased for sure. I would highly recommend this book!

Ah! The old times! The great stories of Islamic Renaissance... Read a book of Mr. Hijazi after such a long time. Captivating and real page-turner. You simply cannot put the book down before you read the end of it. Like his earlier books "Muhammad Bin Qasim", "Moazzam Ali", "Akhri Chataan", this book is indeed a great reminder of great works of our Muslim conquerers.

This book holds a special place in my heart, as it was a gift from my physics teacher to commemorate my achievement of scoring full marks in her subject during the board exams. Sadly, I lost this book, but the memories it holds will forever remain with me.
