William Blake: A Life from Beginning to End
William Blake was an English poet, painter, and engraver who lived during the Romantic era. This was a time of revolution, radical ideas, and sweeping change, and Blake’s output was vast and varied, weaving together words and images in ways that had never been done before. During his lifetime, Blake was recognized as a talented painter and engraver, but he invariably missed out on the fame and fortune he so desperately wanted.
No matter how hard he chased it, mainstream success remained just out of reach. Stubbornly, he produced the kind of art he wanted instead of worrying about whether others would like it—and the world, for the most part, didn't. His exhibitions failed. His books went unread. His most ambitious projects collapsed before they could be finished.
Ultimately, he struggled greatly, only to end up in obscurity and poverty. He died in 1827, largely unknown, and was buried in an unmarked grave. Little would he have suspected that he would one day be named one of the most important figures in British literature.

Informative and Well Written
This biography of William Blake is informative and filled with facts most people are unaware of. Blake was born the son of a skilled craftsman who made enough money to support his family but no more. Blake’s family were dissenters who opposed the monarchy and organized religion. Although he had little formal education, he educated himself and became an artist as well as a poet. He opposed the monarchy and supported the American revolution and the French Revolution. He was disappointed that neither Revolution abolished slavery. He worked diligently and is one of the most respected poets and artists of that age. However, he was never successful during his lifetime. He was isolated the last decade and died in poverty.
His work is now displayed in many museums while poets and artists more successful are not remembered.

Remarkable artist
As with other artists, Van Gogh comes to mind. Blake was a genius only recognized after his death. But he wasn’t just an artist producing quality work, he was indeed a visionary with an unusual take on religion and how government works.
He should be remembered for more than his poetry. His engravings are nothing less than stunning.
Thank whoever kept good track of his works or we wouldn’t have his genius to admire today.
Totally fascinating biography.

Blake's Jerusalem
Book used England throughout rather than the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Why does the author use "English" instead of British ? Blake appeared to do the same.

A man before his crime:
William Blake spent his life being told, in one way or another, that he was too strange, too radical, too visionary for the world he lived in. He was right, and the world was wrong. He simply arrived before it was ready for him.

A sad biography of a man who seems to have always been misunderstood. Matbe he was mad. Maybe just ahead pf his time. This book makes me want to read more about him.
