Tucked Away by Jennie Marts is book one in the series, Hearts of Montana. First, let me say that I am a Florida girl. I’m sure my blood is as thin as water. So I have no idea why I seem to be fixated on books about sexy Montana cowboys. Well, maybe that’s the answer. This book pretty much fills every one of my Montana fantasies. Plenty of cowboys, beautiful country side, and lots of cute, adorable farm animals. Well, maybe one not so cute and adorable.

Charlie Ryan has lived in New York all her life. She wears designer clothes and spends her free time enjoying all that New York has to offer. But that all changed the day she came home earlier than expected and caught her fiance with his secretary. After spending a few weeks with her mother, she is contacted by a lawyer telling her she has inherited a ranch in Broken Falls, Montana called Tucked Away. It was owned by Gigi, a Grandmother she never knew existed, who has recently passed away.

Soon, though, Charlie discovers that she feels a peace here she never knew existed. She feels a sense of belonging, of home. Her new circle of friends will soon include Cash, the oh so handsome and flirty ranch hand, Cherry, the owner and operator of the town diner, and cute, bubbly little thirteen year old Sophie. And then there was Zack, the sexy town veterinarian. One look at him and all sorts of warm and tinglies woke up that Charlie thought had long gone into hibernation.

Zack Cooper has his own trust issues. His wife abandoned he and his baby daughter thirteen years ago. He has kept his heart closed up ever since. Until he met the new city girl that just moved to town. But can he take the chance that she is here to stay? That she won’t break his heart just like his ex-wife did?

Together Zack and Charlie tentatively begin to give in to the attraction they feel. Charlie, though, really struggles with her own self worth. Her father abandoned her and her boy friend cheated on her. Can she take a risk with Zack.

While trying to adjust to her new life, though, Charlie begins to realize everything she thought she knew, everything her own mother led her to believe was true, wasn’t. And what about her Grandmother Gigi’s death? Was it really just an accident or was there more to it than that. Along with everything else, there is a railroad man who keeps pestering her to sell her farm.

When Charlie first came to the farm, she had no knowledge what-so-ever of farm life. She had never even owned a gold fish. So I loved watching her marvel over the birth of a calf or a litter of brand new kittens. Or helping Zack with an injured stray dog. Charlie may have doubted her own self worth or bravery but in my eyes, she was such a strong woman. She adapted to her new life with wonder and gusto.

But with the new found happiness, also came heart break as everything is suddenly in jeopardy. There are a million things going on at the same time and my heart was beating out of my chest as Charlie struggled in her new life. Is she strong enough to stay and fight for what she wants, or will she just pack her belongings back up and try again somewhere else?

This really was a wonderful, sweet and humorous story of two people finding the strength to open their hearts to love again and of a Grandmother’s love for a grand daughter she never got the chance to meet. If I ever did venture to Montana, Tucked Away seems like the perfect place to be.

What a breath of fresh air! This is the book I've been waiting for to get me out of my slump. Not to mention the way the book started was true genius.

The writing was beautiful and enticing. The imagery was breathtaking and inspiring. I found myself wanting to visit Montana and see the big blue sky, go to a small town with hot cowboys and wear hot pink cowgirl boots. There was character development, there was set up for a great story, there was emotions and characters I enjoyed, but most importantly there was actually a story! So many books lately are centered around the erotic sex scenes that I'm honestly kind of getting tired of. I want a good story. I want to like the characters and not want to put the book down because of the story not because of the sex scenes. Don't get me wrong, this book definitely had some steamy scenes but they were a way to add to the story not the focus of the story itself.

Charlie was a very likable character, and probably one of my top heroines. She was hurting and she definitely needed to work through some things in her life but she had a good heart and a good head on her shoulders and she kept trying. She never gave up. Seeing her grow and mature throughout the book and seeing what a genuinely amazing woman she was made this story as wonderful as it was for me.

There were also many relationships in this book. Many relationships between Charlie and someone else but some of these relationships were between other characters in the book that didn't include Charlie. It's amazing to see how different relationships in our lives affect us and affect those around us and this book really took real life into account, which I enjoy immensely.

Overall I'm beyond blown away with this author and again have been reminded of why I enjoy reading so much.

My first read by this author and so uneven. The h's friendship with the hero's teenage daughter instantly was weird, and her employee flirting with her was not okay. I also didn't like the whole contrived plot and drama with never seen dad showing up, H's skanky ex and that dangerous situation in the bar. I may or may not give this author another shot.

Charlie Ryan discovers her fiancé cheating on her and ends up living with her mom. Then she learns she has inherited a farm in Montana from a grandmother she never knew about and decides on starting anew. Her initial happening in Montana and at the farm will make you laugh or giggle. What she does find is good people, ones who loved her 'Gigi' and learning her Gigi loved her. Teenager Sophie, Cash the farm manager, Buckshot the old farm manage and others. But it is a run in with the towns vet, Zack Cooper that makes her heart rake spike.

Zack Cooper has a run in with Charlie and for some reason he can't stop thinking about her. Even though he knows he should, she is a tourist no more no less, here to see to Gigi's affairs, and then she will go back to NYC. He has lived with an ex-wife who did that once he won't fall victim again. He has a daughter to think about.

Slowly these two grow closer, while she takes on the task of owning the ranch and learning how too. Unwilling to sell to an unsavory man from the railroads.

This is what I call an 80/20 book 80% of it is amazing but then the ending knocks it down a peg or two. The ending to me was a bunch of not well done twist and while entertaining I think could've been a lot better. People just showed up at the end of the book and the reasons never really looked deeply into.

All and all though this is still a very entertaining read that just missed 4 starts for me.

At first I was like okay this story was going to be boring but then it picked up. I liked zack and Charlie together. I love how she took his daughter under her wing and became fast friends. I did think their was too much stuff going on sometimes back to back or at the same time. I think the author could have dragged it out more and separated the events a little better by increasing the page amount to make this a better story and not rushed.

Three weeks ago, Charlie Ryan received a phone call from a lawyer, informing her that a grandmother she never knew existed left her a farmhouse in her will. A fortunate thing for our heroine since she need a change of scenery after a breakup with her cheating ex-boyfriend. So goodbye New York and welcome Montana and it all begin with a standoff with a bull and a handsome cowboy. But Charlie doesn't want a fling with the man who run the place and that she'll have to work with. He's a serial flirt anyway and it's the town veterinarian that will make her heart goes crazy. She have her work cut out for her since she doesn't know a thing about farming and has never been around animals before. And she'll make friend with a 13-years-old who will show her how to cook. Can she prove to Zack Cooper that she's not the high-maintenance type ? And what about the man who wants her to sell Tucked Away for a new railroad track ?

For the most part, I enjoyed my reading. But at 30% before the end, it all went downhill for me. It was drama-free up until now and then they followed one after another. The melodrama with Charlie's parents was not necessary nor believable, and then the other drama with an ex but especially, the almost tragic thing that happened to Charlie and Zack's daughter. To be totally honest, it pissed me off and that's why I'm not rating this book. Because I don't think it's fair to give a bad rating to a book just for something I didn't want to read about, but I also can't give a good or even an okay rating if some parts made me too angry. I read romance, yes because I like it but also to escape, to forget about the World's ugliness, so I certainly doesn't want to read about it. If I was reading an horror story or a suspense romance for instance, it's to be expected to see the darker side so I can only blame myself if I'm not happy with it. But this is not what I expect and want from a small town romance.

I'm not saying you shouldn't read this book. In fact, I read my first Jennie Marts's book weeks ago and absolutely loved it. But if like me you're too sensitive for some subject, know that it's not always safe for the characters, even if the tragedy was avoided.

I really hate doing this kind of review but there's a quote I find perfect to summarize the situation :
"I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."
The same thing can be said about books ; I can't forget how it made me feel. And when a book make me feel anxious, even if it's not for the entire book, I can't cheer about it. But like I said, it's most likely that I'm the one who's too sensitive.

Although this was a fairly decent storyline, i honestly felt like the author had put everything she could think of into this story.

Death of unknown grandparent, inherited farmhouse in Montana, leaves cheating fiancé Railroad want to buy land, forms relationship with a teenager, likes the Vet, feels spirit of grandmother, gets together with vet, mother arrives unannounced, finds out teenage is vets daughter, grandmother may have been murdered, estranged father turns up, boyfriends ex-wife turns up, acts badly, gets injured, goes out to rescue teenager and gets in a fight, vet rescues them, fire at the farm, railroad guy implicated.

The only thing that does not seem to happen is that the ex-fiance never turns up, seriously, ho much can be thrown into one book?

Charlie was an ok character, butte never really had a moment to breathe and get over something before something else was shoved in her face. Zack the vet was a good character, protected his daughter, however things happen very quickly with him and i find it strange that in around 11 years Charlie is the only one that has tempted him as a partner since his wife left.

An ok story if you want LOTS to happen, just too far fetched for me.

Charlie Ryan is leaving her New-York City life and some bad memories behind for Broken Falls, Montana, where she just inherited a farm from a grandmother she never knew she had. This change of scenery will be the perfect thing for her to forget about her cheating fiancé.


However, as soon as she sets foot in Broken Falls, the troubles begin, and a new love interest, in the form of hot veterinarian Zack Cooper is threatening her resolve. Zack is a single-dad who is content with his life on the country, and while he knows exactly that city-girls like Charlie mean nothing but bad news, and that she'lll soon have her fill of the country, he can't help but feel drawn to her.
What I loved about this book:

The awful heroine
The slow-paced drama-ridden storyline
The writing

I was granted an ARC of Tucked Away through Netgalley, and was expecting a cute and heartwarming story about cowboys, city girls, and farm-animals (I never thought I'd hear myself say that I actually love myself a good cowboy novel). So yeah, I did get cowboys and city-girls having to make-do with country-life, but I was extremely disappointed with the book as a whole, especially with the writing, the overly ridiculous storyline and the awful heroine.

I was a bit annoyed with Charlie: she thought that everyone flirted with her, so that made her quite pretentious to my eyes! Also, I hated the fact that she jumped to conclusions without even double checking, or believed every single rumor she heard. And of course, whenever something like that happened, she'd make a run for it or hide, or even act like a bitch. Yeah, and her "insecurities" totally get the best of her, because for some weird reason she thinks Zack is not any better than her cheating ex-boyfriend. It was really annoying to see how mistrusting she could be of him when he was left in the exact same situation in which she was left in.

The only characters that felt real here were the actual cowboys: veterinarian Zack and his buddy Cash. They were the only ones who did not go crazy and to whom I could relate.

In terms of storyline, the concept of it was actually not too bad: there was the growing romantic involvement between Zack and Charlie that could have held my interest if it wouldn't have been so slow-paced (also, don't expect the book to be steamy at all!), then there was the whole mystery around the farm and around who killed Charlie's grandmother.

However, all of this book was just full of unnecessary drama and the stuff that happened was just so cliché. Like Charlie's car running out of gas the moment she arrives at her destination. Or suddenly, in one day, Zack's ex-wife shows up after 14 years, and so does Charlie's father, that she never met. Oh, and Charlie's mother suddenly show up at the farm too, and is a completely changed person? How more unrealistic can this book be?

Now as far as the writing is concerned, I found it mediocre at best. There were lots of punctuation mistakes (spaces missing after dots or commas) and also, sometimes, between two paragraphs, a whole new scene would start, so there should have been a graphic separator instead of just a new paragraph. It made reading Tucked Away quite difficult, and I found the 3rd person alternating POV poorly executed, and made it harder to connect with the main characters.

So all in all, I am afraid Tucked Away wasn't for me.

What a fun romance from beginning to end.

Charlie Ryan didn't have the storybook ending that she always wanted. Her boyfriend in NYC cheated on her and she wanted to escape the city and start over. As luck would have it, she was left a Montana Farm known as Tucked Away. Her grandmother she had never met wanted to get the true experience of what life could be like there for Charlie. So what better place to hide then Montana?

She had a fun run in with a bull ( you will enjoy that scene ), met a handsome cowboy within seconds and was not prepared one bit for true farm life, animals and all.

She meets this fun loving girl names Sophie who can't seem to get enough of hanging around with Charlie. They become best friends and help each other grow after experiences in each of their lives that threaten to hurt their futures.

Then one day along comes Zack Cooper, the handsome vet in town. She can't get him out of her mind. She then hears him mention his daughter and she just chalks him up to being another man flirting with her, married with a wife and kids, and that reminds her of her cheating ex. She doesn't want to be the other women.

He on the other hand sees her as a spoiled city girl who will live her life on the farm for a few weeks and when times get tough she will turn tail and head back to the big city!

The story has so many twists and turns - will she keep the farm or sell it off for good? Will she let her guard down and really get to know the handsome cowboy or the family oriented vet? So many questions, you will need to read it and see!

Jennie Marts has shot up to my “To Be Read” list because after reading her latest book Tucked Away. Her development of the characters allow the reader to feel as if they have taken up residency in a homey feeling town in Montana, Charlie Ryan has left the hustle and bustle of New York after a bad breakup to accept the inheritance from her grandma Gigi, a thriving farm called Tucked Away. Charlie had never met her grandma, but once she is settled at the farm she realizes that this beautiful setting is the first time she has ever felt at home. Zack is a local boy who grew up into a handsome veterinarian who is trying to raise his precious daughter Sophie. Sophie is delighted in meeting Charlie and the two strike up an instant friendship each offering what the other is missing. The longer Charlie makes her home at Tucked Away she finds herself falling for the handsome Zack, but when her parents arrive to Montana her carefully constructed life begins to spiral out of control because she realizes her life had been built on a lie. Ms. Marts is a winner and I look forward to reading her other novels. I was given this book to read by the author in return for a fair and honest review.

I was so excited to read this book by Jennie Marts, have enjoyed her previous books, and I loved this book. City girl Charlie, has uprooted her New York life to move to Montana, she inherited her grandmother's farm. I was laughing from the first page, when she was trapped in the car by a bull. What a way to have a fresh start i life. She meets Zack, town vet who is very content as the town vet and raising his daughter.
There is plenty of humor, romance and a touch of mystery in this story. The characters grabbed my heart and would not let go. If you like small town contemporary romance, this is the story for you you. Looking forward to the next story in Hearts of Montana. I received this bok form NetGalley for an honest review.

loved when Zack and Charlie were together there was so much uneasiness between them:
"I much prefer the undressing part, too.” She fingercombed her hair and smiled coyly.“ That was the best shower I’ve had in years.”
His face broke into a naughty grin. “Well, I am a doctor. I’m pretty skilled with my hands."
Charlie learns quickly that with her man being so sexy she needs to be prepared, "if you knew how great your butt looked in Wranglers, you’d understand why I bought the big box.” She ran a finger lightly down his chest." I liked this book it had a great small town feel.

Cute and fast read. Two people find love after being spurned by it in the past. Add in a teen girl and a pup named Joy, they find that giving their hearts again is worth it. Could see the ex-wife making an appearance and boy did she. Not in a good way at all. Glad that Charlie was finally able to find her backbone.there was some suspense involved, mom's past, who her father was and dirty railroad worker. Couldn't help but love Sophie. Such a sweetheart. Will look forward to other reads by this author.

Tucked Away was a quick, sweet read.

I liked the characters and storyline. It took a while for me to get into it as it was a little slow in the beginning but overall it was a good read.

Charlie Ryan is a city girl through and through. Raised in New York City, she’s used to life moving fast and easy access to the finer things. But when she catches her fiance with his secretary, starting over sounds like a great plan. And the timing couldn’t be better, since she’s just inherited a ranch in Montana from a grandmother she never knew.

But... There’s not really anything about the story I didn’t like, but there were some periods of time that were glossed over, and in skipping past so much day-to-day life, I felt like I missed out on a few things. Take Cherry, for example. She seems cool enough, and it’s clear she would make an awesome friend, but after a run-in or two, we’re told that she and Charlie have shared enough chips and margaritas over the summer to become close. I understand the need to get on with the story, but that’s one bit I think should have been shown instead of told. As much as I liked her character, I didn’t feel like I got to know Cherry well enough to instantly get her suddenly solid friendship with Charlie.

The Verdict: Tucked Away starts out with a hilarious bang — an ornery bull attacking the car in which he’s trapped city girl Charlie. She’s hot and tired and ready to check out her new home, but she’s stuck biding her time until a hot cowboy comes to the rescue. That bit of levity set the tone, and while there were definitely some serious moments, this book was loads of fun.

Charlie is definitely a fish out of water when it comes to ranching and small town life, but she’s not averse to giving it all a shot. Screwed over by a philandering fiance, she’s ready for some big changes. Of course, she doesn’t quite know what she’s in for, but the little country house quickly feels like home, and she finds the slower pace and simpler lifestyle more to her liking than she would have expected. Fortunately, the ranch comes complete with ranch hands, so she’s not completely on her own in figuring everything out, and it doesn’t hurt that the local veterinarian is pretty easy on the eyes. In no time, Charlie’s made some new friends — the guys that work the ranch, sexy vet Zack, the owner of the local diner, and the sweetest thirteen-year-old country girl you’ve ever seen.

Zack’s been burned before, and while he’s no saint, his heart has been locked up tight since the day his ex-wife abandoned him and their baby girl. He’s spent the years putting his daughter first and taking care of the town’s many animals. He’s intrigued by and attracted to Charlie, but he knows better than to get wrapped up in a woman who won’t be satisfied outside the neon lights of the city, and he’s practically counting down the days until she gives up and takes off.

In most books that center around someone diving headfirst into an unfamiliar lifestyle, there’s something about the character that never quite sits right with me, but not so with Charlie. Despite everything she’d recently been through, her seemingly unfeeling mother, and having no clue who her father was, she took on every new challenge with determination and hope — and she didn’t have to morph into a whole new person to achieve it. In spite of (or perhaps because of) her own abandonment issues, she didn’t hesitate to open her arms to Sophie, the young teenage girl who was desperate for some female company, and while her inexperience showed, her heart was too good not to see a little of herself in Sophie’s loneliness.

Zack’s initial dismissal of Charlie as someone who would turn tail and run from the often dirty realities of ranching quickly had me judging him — a bit too quickly as it turns out. He knew she was out of her element and couldn’t imagine her sticking around in the long run, but he also didn’t deny or try to brush off her little victories. It felt like, for all his wanting to guard his heart, he was inadvertently opening it more to her as each day progressed. In the end, it was clear that Zack was an awesome blend of romantic and rustic, and if his inherent goodness hadn’t won me over, his love for her daughter certainly would have.

What really did it for me, though, was the somewhat silly (but altogether realistic) approach to country living. From picking out hot pink cowboy boots to naming a newly born calf Rodney, Charlie totally made sense to me. And that’s pretty big, considering I’m more comfortable in a pole barn than a shopping mall. I honestly expected her to take longer to win me over or to annoy me for a little while in how she viewed things. But the way she embraced every new experience on the ranch, her sense of adventure and her genuinely accepting personality… How could I not love her?

But while Tucked Away is most certainly a romance, it’s also very much about family and healing the past. As I mentioned, Charlie’s mom is a far cry from sympathetic and understanding, and there’s a divide between them that needs mending. Charlie’s lack of any knowledge of her father is a big challenge for her as well, not to mention the previously unknown grandmother who left her the ranch in the first place. Building a new life for herself is only one part of the entertaining puzzle that Tucked Away serves up, with plenty of room left for Charlie’s learning more about who she is and where she came from while Zack works at letting himself fall in love again.

I could probably go on and on about this book — it’s certainly one of the more interesting and developed stories I’ve read — but I’m sure it’ll be much more fun if you just read it yourself. Tucked Away is genuine country romance at its best, with complex and loveable characters, some mystery and drama, and lots of laughs, and I have no doubt the rest of this series is going on my must preorder! list.

This was the first book in a new series set in a small Montana town, and I was hooked right from the start. It has the perfect mix of intrigue and romance, and the characters felt real and easy to connect with.

Charlie grew up in New York City and suddenly inherits a ranch in Montana from a grandmother she never knew. To keep it, she has to live on the property for a certain amount of time, which leads to a big change in her life. Once she arrives, she meets a sweet teenager who helps her learn to cook and a handsome local vet she can’t help but be drawn to.

Things get more complicated when a railroad man shows up, determined to buy part of the land—the same area that’s key for the ranch’s cattle. That storyline added some nice tension and kept me curious about how it would all play out.

What I liked most was that it didn’t feel like every other cowboy romance I’ve read. The mix of mystery, romance, and small-town life made it stand out and really enjoyable. I’m already looking forward to the next book in the series.

This was a cute story, I loved the details of the small Montana town. The abundance of animals that showed up on the property that Charlie inherited from the Grandmother that she had never met. This city girl is like a fish out of water when it comes to country life, but the chance to start over gives her a place to call home. It doesn't hurt that the local vet is easy on the eyes.

When her mother stops by, there is plenty of drama and other visitors. However the railroad man keeps stopping by trying to get her to sell the land, but how can she when she just might have found home!

I’m not really a fan of the whole “my ex has been gone for 13 years with no trace but now that I have a new love interest she shows up and wants me and our daughter back” trope. But that’s not all that’s wrong with this one. Too many twists that are cliche.

But what does work is the farm setting, the set up for future books in the series and the kid. Not entirely worthless and not a complete waste of time.

Cute story. Charlie is down on her luck, what with the cheating fiancé and being broke. Fortunately, Charlie has inherited her grandmother's farm in Montana, which is almost as far away from NYC as one can get! As Charlie re-evaluates her life, she finds herself drawn to the local vet and his daughter. Will Charlie find her HEA?
This story is well written, with the right balance of angst, cuteness, and bad guys.

3 solid stars. Tucked Away gets off to a slow start in a fast sort of way. You’ll have to read it to understand that. There is an instant attraction between Zach and Charlie, but they sure do take their time dancing around one another. Major miscommunications, suspicions, trust issues, and abandonment… are only a few of the problems in this story. The cast of characters are interesting and engaging. Tucked Away is entertaining.

At first this book really wasn't going anywhere. I guess some books need more set up time then others. Somehow this bland modern farm/ranch story had me on a roller-coaster with my stomach doing flip flops. Then had me sick to my stomach as even more of the story unwound. What a ride!

What a delightful country romance. This book is full of mystery, laughs, an adorable teenager who will steal your heart, romance, heartbreak, love and many surprises. This has to be my favorite Jennie book so far.

Charlie Ryan is a plucky woman. She had a cheating fiancée who left her heart broken and an even broker bank account. Everything in her life has just gone belly up. She is just about done for when she's inherited a Montana farm named Tucked Away from a grandmother she never knew existed. Charlie thinks her luck is changing and changing for the better. Charlie is someone who never gave up hope.

She ends up making a fresh start in Montana, and soon meets Sophie who is a very precious 13 year old who knows a lot for her age. She knows a lot about cooking, farming, and just life in general on a farm than someone her age should know or even is aware of. They become great friends who hang out, bake and go shopping for more weather appropriate clothing for Montana-including items colored Pink.

Zack Cooper owns and runs the local vet practice. He’s Sophie’s dad who happens to be single and doesn't trust women especially after his ex-wife did a cut and run, then left him holding the baby-LITERALLY. His daughter is the woman he’s going to let into his heart - until he meets Charlie. Their reciprocal interest and hesitation to act on their feelings means life as they know it is about to get lively for them both!

This story has multiple other stories running through it at the same time. I found it ok but I would have liked the story to stay on the main characters because it made it hard to keep focus. I liked this story because there was the storyline of suspicion of murder, someone trying to buy the farm for a railroad company, past secrets revealed, missing parents turning up, double dealing, misunderstandings, attempted rape and arson involved in this extremely rapid tale which I found entertaining from start to finish. The author has everything going at pretty much the same time. I will admit it was hard to keep up the frantic pace of keeping my eyes going on one thing. I did wish the main characters had their ending followed up. A wrap up so to speak of how they were doing after the ending of the story so I would know how they were doing. I guess that is being nitpicky but due to pace of the story, I would have liked to have seen that at least. I did like the pairing of the main characters and I liked their chemistry so overall this was a good book .I would have rated this higher but felt the pace was frantic. The author did have a good way with her words and did get across how the characters were feelings so I will say this is a good book to read.
