Book 1 in the Say You Love Me series, starring a group of male friends--hot young Hollywood heroes and hard-partying rock band bad boys--each on the verge of meeting the girl of his dreams.
This life I'm relishing--the women, booze, and parties--won't last forever. But while it does, I'll take it all in with no regrets. Pleasure stands paramount. When I party, I forget all the trash that's happened in the past. It's the same when I'm acting, when I become someone else, someone not afraid to feel or make others feel. It's what I live for: The next party. The next role. The next girl.
That's my life. That's the way I want it to be.
Except now I've met Gwen...
Garrick Maze, young Hollywood's hottest bad boy, just landed the male lead in a new network television series. Known for indulging in wild parties, casual hook-ups, and fast cars, he spends his days on set and his nights on the town. Love's the last thing on his mind, especially when it comes to his ice queen female lead.
Gwendolyn Vickers intends to be America's next celebrity sweetheart and that means keeping her public image pristine. The last thing she needs is to be linked to trouble-making heartthrob Garrick Maze. But he's shamelessly flirty and sexy as sin. Her body craves him. Soon, so does her heart.
When secrets from the past clash with the bright lights of fame, Gwen realizes there's more to Garrick than washboard abs and sex appeal. He'll prove that when it comes to mixing mind-blowing pleasure with true love, he's not about to let her down.
New Adult Contemporary Romance with a HEA
**First of a series, but each book will be a standalone**<
Say You Love Me Series:
Book 1: Say It Sexy (Garrick) Book 2: Say It Strong (Liam)
A former prosecutor, Virna DePaul writes "heat, heart, & HEA" for Harlequin and Random House. She is also a bestselling Indie author, with Bedding The Wrong Brother being a top 100 contemporary romance on Amazon with over 150 5* reviews. www.virnadepaul.com
Say It Sexy by Virna De Paul is a New Adult romance that I really had to try to finish a couple of times before the H/h began to grow on me. I just could not warm up to them or the other characters. The writing is good. This may be a good romance for a twenty something, but not for me.
This book was exciting from beginning to end. The characters took a stand right from the beginning and didn’t hold back. The storyline built up around the main characters but the secondary characters have a story of their own I hope to read about one day. The emotions you feel (or at least I felt) take your heart on a journey. I am looking forward to reading the next installment of this series. Thank you Virna DePaul for a great new series to follow!
I was willing to roll with not really feeling this until I got to the special snowflake television production schedule. No, I cannot suspend disbelief far enough to accept a network agreeing to shoot a pilot THE WEEK BEFORE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO AIR AND FINISH EDITING IT THE SAME DAY. And then to continue on that insane production schedule.
Garrick Maze is the ultimate player, however his reasons for becoming one seem to dim when he finds himself falling for his new leading lady.
Gwendolyn Vickers toes the line because as the only daughter of the man once crowned Mr Universe she has always been aware of her daddy's strict rules concerning her. For some reason those rules become a distant memory when she and her new leading man find themselves striking sparks off each other.
A fairly typical contemporary romance with a not so typical twist or two thrown in before the end of the first story arc.
Covergestaltung: okay Schreibart: gut Thematik: gut
I am so glad I read Rock Strong first...Had I read this one first I never would have never continued with this series or any of DePaul's other books. I found this story to be completely juvenile! I would NOT have finished it except I thought it would get better...IT DIDN'T. I absolutely loved Rock Strong and the other Point Break stories but going to take a pass on Shane and Erica's story.
I really enjoyed this book. This is about Gwen and Garrick. Both are the leads in a new TV series. These two did not start off on the best foot. They were combative but it was funny. Both carrying around hurts from the past. This was a great start for this series. Looking forward to more.
Great story of two people with different ideas about love. I was expecting a predictable story but Ms. DePaul threw some curveballs in there that surprised me. Great read.
I was honored to beta read this book for Virna DePaul and it was such a fun read! This is Virna's NA debut and also the start of her new Say You Love Me series, and she definitely started it out with a bang. This is my favorite book that I have read of hers, and I cannot wait to see where this series goes!
Garrick Maze and Gwendolyn Vickers are the two leads in a new TV show based on a hit book series. Garrick is the typical Hollywood star, going to parties and keeping his hook-ups casual. He isn't looking for love, and his new uptight costar is definitely the last one he would consider if he were. Gwen needs this show to be a hit, not only is she under pressure from her father but she also has an image to uphold. Though these two get off to a rough start, the passion between them continues to grow. Soon their banter and arguing turns to flirting, and before long they are both starting to see each other in a whole new light. As Gwen and Garrick grow closer, they both begin to wonder if maybe they belong with the last person that they expected.
I really liked both Gwen and Garrick. These characters are so much more than first meets the eye, and I really enjoyed getting inside their heads. I love that we get both of their POVs, and I think that really allows the reader to get to know a character better. Gwen might come off as frigid, but she was dealing with a lot and she hadn't had life easy. Though most on the outside might think differently, Gwen had always been looking to make her dad proud and had quite a lot to live up to. Garrick brought out the fun and sweet side of her, and he saw beneath her facade. I was glad that he was able to really know the real Gwen. Garrick was also different than just what you first saw, and I was glad that he wasn't just another playboy. He was smart and sweet, and the more I got to know him the more I liked him. He was great at what he did, but he was also a really good guy. These two had so much chemistry, and I loved the banter between them. You could tell that all that tension between them was going to explode, and I loved every bit of it.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was fun and sexy, and I liked the characters. I am really looking forward to getting to know the rest of the cast from the TV show as well as the band members better. I am looking forward to Liam and Shane's stories especially! If you are already a fan of Virna's you won't want to miss this story, and if you are new to Virna this is a great book to start with! NA fans will find this one refreshing with no cheating or using others to make each other jealous. Liam's story is next, titled Say It Strong, and I can't wait to see what Virna has in store for him!
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
Say it Sexy is about former soap opera star and all around good girl, Gwen, and action hero and Hollywood playboy, Garrick. They are both cast in a new TV series that is based on a bestselling book. When they first meet, Garrick overhears Gwen talking to the author of the book and expressing her doubts that an action movie star can play the role opposite her. After a while he makes his presence known and so starts the battle. They are both attracted to each other, but Gwen has promised her dad that she will remain focused (and not get involved with a man) because his production company depends on the success of the series. Garrick has his own hang ups after going through a very messy break up with an ex which sparked his tendency to be a playboy. The chemistry between them is apparent and eventually they give in to their desires.
At times I admired Gwen because when she realized she was wrong, she apologized and tried to make things right, which don't see often these days. There were times, however, I just wanted to shake her because she was so back and forth about things. I understand why she was this way, but I kept hoping she would finally just do what she wanted to do, which finally happened towards the end. Garrick also showed a lot of growth since the start of the story and I found him to be quite the romantic after all.
The book is written in first person, but it alternates between Gwen and Garrick, which I love because you get insight into both of their thoughts and feelings. We also get to meet a great group of secondary characters including the author of the book the show is based on, the other two actors in the show and Garrick's friend and his bandmates who all add to the story (and it looks like they will get their own stories). I found the ending to be a tad rushed and I would have loved to have heard the conversation between Garrick and his brother. Other than that, I thought this book was a good start to the series and I do plan to read the next books in the hopes that some of the matches hinted at in this book are developed in other books.
I really enjoyed this love story, it definitely kept me turning the pages and excited to find out what happens next. To be totally honest, it wasn't totally predictable like I thought it would be. It had many twists and turns that surprised me throughout the book.
I found Garrick and Gwen to have amazing chemistry from the first time Garrick overheard Gwen talking about him. They challenged each other, plus they couldn't fight the attraction they felt for each other. However, each of them had baggage and until they each dealt with their own, they could never be together.
It was interesting how Garrick had wanted to present himself as this playboy partying guy, when really he was just a lonely guy looking for the "one." Gwen tried to portray herself as this very professional, ice queen, when truthfully she is girl looking for love and her daddy's approval. In both situations, Garrick and Gwen are not looking in the right places for what they need.
This book is about trusting yourself and believing that you deserve to be treated with respect and love, not by just your lover, but by everyone, including yourself. I really found a lot of surprising twists in this story and like the characters in this series. I definitely want to find out what happens for Shane, Erica and Tyler. And maybe if we are lucky, Liam!! This is the first book I read from this author and I definitely want to read more from her!!!
Oh wow Garrick and Gwen have some serious volatile chemistry at the beginning and throughout most of the story. They are both attracted to each other but at the same time they each have their own issues they are dealing with and neither can afford to get involved. Family, ex’s, expectations and responsibilities are the major ones. Both Garrick and Gwen were likable and relatable characters.
I think it is cool that this story is about a romance novel that is made into a tv series. I also think it’s cool that the writer (Erica Ellis) of the book is on set interacting with the characters and helping them along the way. Erica has some good relationship advice and relationship metaphors. “Relationships…They’re kind of like driving to a new coffee shop, you know? It’s unfamiliar territory. It’s not a straight line. Sometimes you go left, or right or in a giant circle. Sometimes you have to stop altogether, or make a U-turn when you go down a wrong road. Sometimes you get so lost, you have to pull over and ask for directions. Getting there can be fun, frustrating, informative, and undeniably exhausting.” That does about sum it up. I think Garrick and Gwen did all of those and few times before finally reaching the coffee shop.
Say It Sexy was a great enjoyable Sunday read I can’t wait to start “Say it Sweet.”
This is Virna DePaul's first New Adult series and it didn't disappoint. Garrick is Hollywood's hottest action star. He has everything he could want- a different beautiful woman every night, famous friends and a great movie career. Gwen is the ultimate professional and always working on being the best that she can possibly be. Because of this, she comes across as an ice queen. When the two meet, you don't know whether to run for cover or watch and hope for the best.
Overall, this was a great start to what is sure to be a steamy hot, sexy new series. Garrick is definitely swoon worthy from the start and you immediately see that there's more to him than just being the stereotypical, partying, Hollywood heartthrob. Gwen, on the other hand, took me a while to warm up to. As the story progresses, you realize that there's a reason why Gwen is the way that she is and you have to feel for her. The back and forth banter between the two characters as they try to figure out their feelings has you both rooting and cringing within a matter of seconds. It sure makes for a wild and fun ride!
I'm looking forward to the rest of the series and can't wait to see what fireworks will be going off in those books.
My newest love is the writing of Virna DePaul! Messing around on Facebook I noticed Virna DePaul asking for volunteers to read and review her latest. Not knowing anything about the book I immediately sent my email. Usually books about celebrity type characters turns me off because I assume it's the usual storyline - drug abuse, promiscuity, cheating. This is so not the case and found it to be a wonderful display of love in the world of Hollywood. The first chapter is the typical Hollywood scene, sex and booze, as that's how Garrick has come to live his life. After meeting his cast mates one stands out immediately, Gwen. Their relationship is passionate and yet, because of who they are, can't become public. They both come from difficult backgrounds which had come to affect decisions about their future. The issues in this book are real everyday life concerns, Hollywood or not, and DePaul did a fabulous job twisting them into the storyline. This is the first book in a new series, about 7 or 8 books, each is a standalone but would probably flow better if read in order. My copy was given for my honest review.
Say it Sexy was a pleasant read. The story was well written but not as gripping as I had expected. The characters became more relatable as the story went along. It did take me a few starts and stops to be able to really get into this story. In the end I was glad that I finished the book and saw the outcome of Gwen and Garrick’s story. Gwen came off as uptight and judgmental at first. However, as the story line progressed she became more relatable as she loosened up within the story. Garrick was a more interesting character from the start though I did find it hard to sympathize with him regarding the way that he treated women. As the story progressed and I learned about his past, his ex and who she cheated on him with I started to understand him better. I did enjoy the play between Gwen and Garrick as their relationship grew. The passion between and Gwen and Garrick was the most tangible portion of the book to me. However, I generally liked the support characters better. I liked the co-stars on the TV show and Gwen’s parents’ revelation was the biggest plot twist in the book for me. I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Bad Boy, Garrick Maze, is an action movie star known for his womanizing ways. He gets close to no one after being burned by love in the past. He is determined to never put himself in that place again until Gwen steps into his life and starts to change everything.
Gwen Vickers is a soap opera star who has a reputation as clean as a whistle. She believes in love and fairytales. She stays out of the tabloids and press, but mostly for fear of the repercussions that it will bring her from her over protective father. She lands her first role on her own and is determined to prove to herself and her father that she can be successful on her own. Her father is still controlling her life and has warned her off partying and men...she is just having a hard time staying away from Garrick.
The overall concept of this story is good, it is just missing something. The main characters are good, especially Garrick. The romance is there and there are steamy love scenes. I didn't care for the overbearing father and silent mother, but that is my opinion. I give this ⭐️⭐️⭐️ overall.
Seifenoper in Buchform.

This book is written in first person, alternating between the Hero & Heroine. Spoiled young movie star meets rigid young soap star. When cast in a new TV series, each starts out disliking the other. As they get to know each other, they gradually discover that they like each other underneath all the sniping.
While I have really enjoyed other books by this author, I didn’t love this one. There were some continuity errors and typos that pulled me out of the story. I also could not warm up to either main character. Maybe because they were so young and I’m middle-aged. If you like Young Adult genre books, you will most likely love this one. Ms. DePaul does write some excellent books – I just didn’t think this was one of them.
Gwen is playing the lead female role in the new tv series her father's company is producing, and she is determined to make it a hit. Garrick is the Hollywood action movie star that has been given the leading male role in the series. Garrick takes one look at Gwen and is determined to get her into bed, and Gwen is just as determined to stay away from Garrick. The two get to know each other and, and start a sizzling romance. Garrick wants to tell the world, but Gwen is terrified that her father will find out and force her to leave the show. I thought this was a fascintaing look into the emotions of two people from very different back grounds, who will have to overcome painful influences from their pasts in order to move into the future as a couple. I loved this book!
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Sometimes in life you just need a fun/easy read that keeps your interest from the very beginning to the very end. I knew I was going to like this book when I read the blurb online. If it has Hollywood stars involved then sign me up. One thing I enjoyed was the alternating point of views. The connection between Garrick and Gwen was hot, but that opening scene! WOWZA. I knew I was going to like Garrick right away with his dirty little mouth. I did feel bad for Gwen because of her over barring father. It's a great story about two lovers from opposite sides of the tracks, but who both want the same thing. I liked this story and would most def. recommend it to my girlfriends!

So far, Say It Sexy is one the books about celebrities that I really enjoyed the most. Things between Garrick and Gwen are slow at first. Too slow for my liking, actually. But it turned out to be a good thing for the development of their feelings and their relationship.
I also didn't like Gwen in the beginning of the story because she came across as uptight and very judgmental. One of the few moments when it's the heroine is the one that is annoying at first. Garrick, on the other hand, is so likeable since the very beginning. There is something about him that is genuine. Even if he acted as arrogant and overly confident, you know he is true in a sense that he shows who he really is.
Overall, Say It Sexy is something I would recommend to fans of NA romance.
At first I didn't like Garrick, but as the book went on, he really grew on me. He is a self assured, sexy movie star. Gwen is under her fathers thumb and afraid to do anything he would not approve of. A relationship with Garrick would be just that. Meeting up on the set of a new TV series, sparks fly - but both deny the chemistry at first. Secrets are revealed and Gwen finally moves out from under her fathers scrutiny into the loving arms of Garrick. I liked that each chapter was from a different characters point of view and can't wait for the next book. This kept my interest the entire time and didn't want it to end. Hope to see some of them in Liam's story.
I'm a huge Virna DePaul fan so I couldn't wait to read Say It Sexy. This book has all the heat and amazing characters I've come to anticipate with Virna's books. Garrick was the bad boy with a past you couldn't help but to love and hate at the same time. Gwen has enormous family pressures that made her happy ending seem impossible. Even despite the odds there was enough smoldering heat to make this an 5 star read. Can two people from very different worlds come together and ignite their passions or will outside forces destroy their happy ending before it's even gotten started? Check out Say It Sexy and find out :)
I really enjoyed this book. It was a different take on a love story between two famous people, actors. Garrick and Gwen are both likable characters and I enjoyed seeing them overcome the relationships that burned them in the past and find each other. I love it when a male lead shows his vulnerability when it comes to his leading lady, and that happened here. Garrick put it all out there. I also enjoyed the supporting characters and the roles they played, especially Tyler and Erica. I can't wait to read more of this series. I know the next book focuses on Liam, but I hope to see more of the friends from Straightlaced.
This is my first book by Virna DePaul. The storyline was one that keeps you interested from beginning to end and the characters are well developed.
Garrick is a bad boy with a past that you love to hate. Gwen is a former soap opera star that has a multitude of family pressure. When they start out on a new TV series together they dislike each other. But once they get to know one another they learn that they both have an attraction to the other that is undeniable.
Can these two who come from different worlds find a HEA together or will the people around them destroy that and keep them from a HEA before they even get started?
So I really didn't like this book. It started out ok. I liked Garrick in the beginning, but right away I disliked Gwen. Lots of books have the female goodie two shoes, but she was beyond the extreme. In her twenties and her dad controlled her every move & it wasn't because he controlled her finances she just cowered to him. I found this ridiculous and unbelievable. Then all of a sudden Garrick had feelings for her & he also became annoying. I finished it, but it was a struggle. I really wouldn't recommend. It is part of a series, but this could be read as stand alone.
