Tahira Murphy has always seemed to be surviving love instead of enjoying it; always being the one in the relationship struggling to make it work on her own. After finally deciding to walk away from a tumultuous relationship, she doesn’t have any interest in going on another relationship roller coaster, but fate isn’t decided based on what we want. When she rear ends a car at a red light it puts her directly in the path of Grant Brown.
Their first meeting? A disaster.
Their next few? Even worse.
Clashing at every turn, neither of them expects their ongoing tension to turn into something real. What starts as friction turns into something deeper, something that feels dangerously close to peace. Tahira has the opportunity to experience a love that is steady instead of chaotic but is it possible for her to learn to trust a man to lead without breaking her again?
Grant Brown has already had his fill of emotional wreckage as well. After spending four years with his son’s mother, her betrayal has caused him to swear off relationships for good until one date night with Tahira completely changed his outlook. He’s expressive, confident and sure of himself in a way that makes her feel he is arrogant but challenges her from the start. Grant leads with patience, consistency, and with a kind of love Tahira has never experienced.
When old wounds resurface and past relationships try to disrupt their union. Will they let it or will they allow one another to be the person they deserve?

Hit Different definitely lives up to its title because this love story had me feeling every single emotion.
Before Grant and Tahira found their way to each other, this book was MESSY in the best way. Baby mamas, cheating exes, jealous family members... every time I thought things were settling down, another layer of drama popped up. But underneath all the chaos was a beautiful story about healing and learning what healthy love actually looks like.

My heart hurt for Tahira. She had been surviving love instead of enjoying it, yet she never lost sight of the woman she wanted to become. What I appreciated most was that she wasn't written as a perfect character. There were moments where she reacted from hurt, trauma, or simply wasn't in the right headspace. Instead of staying stuck in those mistakes, she owned them. Whether it was apologizing after letting PTSD from past relationships cloud her judgment, reacting emotionally, or placing blame on the wrong person, she took accountability and grew from each experience. That kind of character development made me root for her even more.

Grant? Whew. That's a MAN. His upbringing really showed in the way he loved—with patience, consistency, reassurance, and intention. After everything he went through with his son's mother, I was rooting for him just as much as I was rooting for Tahira. Nobody deserves the pain he experienced.

One thing I loved was that Grant and Tahira came from completely different backgrounds, but they wanted the same kind of future. It proved that your past doesn't have to define the kind of love you're capable of giving or receiving.

Now listen... that ending had me in tears. Losing someone you love changes you, and the way Tahira's grief was written felt so real. I completely understood her emotions, and I loved that Grant became the safe place she needed instead of trying to "fix" her pain.

Grant's sister had me cracking up every single time she showed up. 😂 She wasn't in the story a lot, but every scene she had brought some much-needed laughs, and I honestly looked forward to seeing her pop back up.

Please pay attention to the trigger warnings before diving in because this story covers some heavy topics.

This was a quick, entertaining read that I flew through.

Tahira and Grant's first meeting had me laughing because it was definitely one for the books. From there, I enjoyed watching the banter and their relationship unfold. Grant was everything I wanted him to be, established, family oriented, patient, and genuinely intentional. I loved seeing a strong family of entrepreneurs, and it made me root for him even more.

My only real complaint is that I wish Tahira had given herself more time to heal before starting something new. Her past explained her fears, but there were moments where I felt like Grant was carrying the weight of someone else's mistakes. He wasn't perfect either, and one unnecessary lie definitely made me side eye him, but overall, I thought he handled things well.

I really enjoyed this one. It had humor, chemistry, emotional moments, and a satisfying ending that made the journey worth it. If you're looking for a fast-paced Black romance with lovable characters and just enough drama to keep the pages turning, I'd definitely recommend it.

ARC REVIEW

Let me start by saying I knew this book was going to be good, by the cover.
Enemies to lovers trope.
You can't help but root for Tahira and Grant's love story.
Tahira is a successful photographer, who finds out her bf is cheating on her, and his side piece books a photoshoot with her. Then after a successful shoot, confronts Tahira about HER man.
Grant, a successful club owner, who swore off relationships after his baby mama, who technically isn't his baby mama, reveal his son isn't his son at 4yrs old.
The two end up meeting in a not so good turn of events, that makes them want to stay clear of each other. But as luck would have it, they keep meeting up by chance, and end up giving each other a chance.

A GREAT READ!!!!!!!!
I only wished Tahira would've healed before starting a new relationship, she kept making Grant pay for things her ex did.

Tahira and G’s story is your typical enemies to lovers scenario. They both had issues to work through so they could come together. And that dang on Calvin. Smh Quick read and enjoyable.
