I've read a lot of holiday romances, but this may be the first that centers on the Fourth of July. This book uses the Fourth as a "ticking time bomb," with sky-high stakes: if the characters can't unravel the mystery and find a 150-year-old treasure by the Fourth of July, the small town's wild hills get sold to big-box developers. Our heroine loves astronomy and the night sky, and her skills are naturally invaluable in solving the old puzzle. She also has to get past her own and others' assumptions about the "town" people vs. the out-of-towners who live in the big houses in the hills. AND she has to learn to work with a boy she thinks she hates. This book was lots of fun: smart, quirky characters; an engaging puzzle; a fun romance; and just a touch of magic. It also includes a few Easter eggs for people who love Bear Lake in Utah.

This is how YA romance should be written. All of us have read romances where much of the tension comes from miscommunication because one (or both) of the people in the relationship refuse to talk to the other just because they are mad. So it takes a while to get things resolved and for feelings to actually come out. But Fourth of Forever gives reasons for the miscommunications. Add in a treasure hunt and just a dash of magic, and this is a complete winner (with an environmentalist background thrown in, but not pushed on the reader).

What better way to celebrate the Fourth of July than with Fourth of Forever and see fireworks and sparks fly?

What a great young adult novel! There was so much attention to detail that added to the plot and setting! The characters feel relatable and well-developed, each bringing something unique to the narrative. I would highly recommend it to readers who enjoy stories about friendship, adventure, and finding where they truly belong.

Once I got into this story, I couldn't get out. I love me a good enemies to lovers storyline. Throw in a little magical realism and I'm sunk. There were some deeper themes of seeking understanding, setting aside prejudices, acceptance, and finding home. Loved it!
