The best thing about you is you! is bollywood actor anupam kher's attempt at playing a completely new role. In this book the actor-turned-author uses instances from his own life to inspire and motivate his readers. The author provides his readers with subtle anecdotes of his own experiences and utilises them to guide his readers into lead a peaceful and contented life. His writing is inspirational and encourages the reader to introspect and look for one's real self. Kher encourages the reader to look at life in a positive manner and to use that positivity to counter all the negative forces in one's life. Today, people are gripped under the stress of daily life and feel insecure, frustrated and unhappy due to the pressures of work and other routines. But kher recommends optimism as the cure for all of these problems. He cites his own humble upbringing to demonstrate how it is not impossible to reach great heights, even if one's resources are few. One need not be born with a silver spoon in one's mouth in order to attain success. However, he also sounds a warning bell to those who may be overcome with success and lose their way. He says that it is important to remain humble and gracious no matter how high one has reached. The best thing about you is you! was published by the penguin group in 2014 and is available in paperback. Key features: it is a guide to success and positive thinking.
I love Anupam Kher and I don't think there's any role that he can't perform perfectly. While I have never met him in person, I feel like (watching his interviews and all) he's a very down-to-earth person.
Anupam Kher pours his heart out in this and gives us his life stories and the lessons/messages that he learnt from those stories. This book works as a self-help book whilst providing heart-felt, genuine and funny anecdotes along the way.
The language is simple yet very interesting but what it lacks is the originality. I have read so many other books with similar messages and I felt this is just another one of those self-help books. Yes, it tells the readers to never lose hope and stay positive but it just felt repetitive.
Quotable Quotes: "Bheega Hua Aadmi Baarish Se Nahin Darta" "Comparison Begets Regrets" "It is not enough to succeed; others must fail" "Most of us are driven by sadistic instincts"
Anupam Kher's new book teaches valuable life lessons. It tells nothing new than the things that we already know but are not ready to either understand or acknowledge. The books is divided into multiple chapters; each dealing with a small facet of life.
Kher does not try to be preachy but he rather breaks down the more important things in life to small easy to understand pieces. The book is more about you discovering yourself and finding things about yourself that make you tick, makes your life worth living.
In this book Anupam Kher has distilled years of wisdom handed down from generation to generation in a format easy to read and understand by today’s generation. He has cut across the meaningless platitudes and gotten straight to the point.
It’s a coffee table book for people who want refresher course to life lessons. This book is a must read for folks who are confused and want solution to life’s problem fast.
In the initial phase of reading this book, i was rating it a 2-star. Reason being that i found it bit repetitive in its messages. Repetitive as in, it seemed to consist of the usual stuff that most self-help books intend to teach their readers. Also, i was finding its vocabulary little too tough to understand without a dictionary. So much so that i had even shut the book and kept it aside with the thought 'some other time..' But when after some time, i started reading it again afresh, by the time i crossed its mid, i started to find it different and hence giving it a 3-star. And then by the time i finished reading, it had gradually become a 4-star!! At times, i exclaimed 'awesome!' to myself. At some places i even felt like an imaginary window of my mind opened by grasping its messages. But yes, the vocabulary problem anyhow remained throughout and i had to refer to a new word's meaning in almost every paragraph or every third. Nevertheless, language is good. Recommended to all those who are looking for enlightenment in life.
I don't necessarily agree with his thoughts on depression however otherwise it's a worthy read.
He doesn't necessarily say anything new, he simply re-iterates a lot of what is already out there and creates a good collection of thoughts and ideas explored by others and by science.
"there are no great truths still waiting to be discovered. They just need to be rediscovered and lived by."
The above line is a great summary of his take on this topic and my take on his book.

If you have not watched any spiritual talks then i would recommend this book.gives deep insight about how to look at life and make it easy.will be a good start for beginners.
I must confess right at the beginning that I am not a lover of overtly preachy self-help books. ‘How To Get Rich’ ‘Ten Steps to a fulfilling life’ etc. etc. In my opinion, I think those aren’t the kind of books worth buying. A close friend or confidant could tell you the same things over regular re-fills of Cappuccino at your local coffee shop. Books must affect you, they must make you uncomfortable, they must make you think, wonder, ruminate and must resonate with you long after the last page has been turned. A good book will leave you with a sense of satisfaction – you’ll know that the hours spent immersed in its pages were worth it afterall.
Anupam Kher’s – The Best Thing about You is You, is a good book – it is also a rare book that does all that I have mentioned and more. Kher’s outpourings meander away from the preachy and settle along the lines of genuine heartfelt discourse – the kind that will leave anyone feeling encouraged, motivated and uplifted.
Drawing liberally from the wealth of his own personal experiences, Kher touches on a wide range of subjects in a breezy yet nonfrivolous manner. By breezy I don’t mean sketchy or half-hearted. Kher skillfully braces the subjects of hardship, struggle, stress and strife without going too deep into their ramifications on one’s life. His approach remains hopeful, optimistic and positive. The book carefully but clearly captures the emotional journey of a human life – possibly Kher’s own, but the truths encapsulated therein are reflective of the human journey in itself and can be easily identified with by one and all.
What I love most about the book is the fact that it is written in simple language. The words are carefully strung together and yet their effect is so casual and so beautiful. He uses a generous dose of Hindi terminology that lend the book a casual yet personal feel. Know what I mean? Reading it makes you feel as if Mr. Kher is sitting opposite you and having a conversation with you that you will remember all your life.
I think the book is worth a read and is definitely worth having around to turn to when you feel like giving yourself a pep talk. Stress, love, hardships – whatever your worries, Mr.Kher has been through it all and he’s sharing all his secrets in a little book that will make you examine your own life and realize that no matter what you’re going through there is a way out – all you have to do is look inside yourself and be surprised with the wealth of latent potential. You are the answer to all you problems and situations – the best thing about you afterall – IS YOU!
Bracketed in 50 chapters, it's an amalgamation of the noteworthy incidents of the actor's life and traditional Indian and foreign stories. The initial chapters are an attempt to make the readers understand the root of the problem. Topics such as 'We Are All Unhappy', 'The Anger Syndrome', 'Discontent Is a Disease', and 'Comparison Begets Regret' present the examples from all over the world to make the case stronger that no human can live without being affected by the sudden eruption of chaotic emotions. The book proceeds to explain the process of change required to channelize the energy. It talks about some practical solutions to come out of the shell and analyze the situation with a clear mind. The use of mirror to get rid of the shyness is not a new method but Kher has twisted the experiment. He wants the readers to laugh at themselves to make way for the positive energy which will come to the individual only after losing inhibitions. However several of the exercises recommended in the book need a group which busy individuals may find difficult to assemble.
There is nothing in the book which is not told earlier by Dale Carnegie, Thomas Harris or Shiv Khera but what adds charm to the book is the humility with which it is written.
There is a separate chapter on 'Unfulfilled Relationships' but probably the book should have featured a little more on this subject as it's the relationship which suffers the most in these times of fast economic developments. The author has tried to keep the word selection as simple as possible which is expected to make the book readable to a wider set of readers. Excerpts from the actor's autobiographical play 'Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai' are repetitive and could have been edited at places.
'The Best Thing about You Is You' doesn't promise any miracle and here lies the success of the book. The strength has to come from the inside of the individual and the book emphasizes on it. However a little more definitive programme schedule to change the life style might have helped.
Had heard a lot about this book but disaapointed at last. I guess ,uch hype has been given to anupams book because he is a movie star. Didnt like his writing style. Agree that he has accumulated a lot of experience over the years being through ups and downs however good writing skills seems still a far cry. The only few good things i found was some great quotes from famous people he used. Otherwise nothing new or refreshing in the book that i found.
Excellent book and must read. There is nothing new that is been told in this book other than what has been told in Dale Carnegie or Shiv Khera.. the way it has been written with humbleness adds charm to it. It doesn't promise of any miraculous change in you, but makes you prepare for the journey of life and the need of accepting changes in life with grace and patience :)
Talk show "Life Me Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai" is doing exceedingly well on TV these days. Anupam Kher's widely acclaimed play with the same title has been discussed in this book multiple times. A well written book exploring broad spectrum areas from failures in life to nurturing relationships to empathy. A few questions & excerpts in some of the chapters will make you think and reflect back in your life. For example - Why do we make conscious efforts in relationships only when something goes wrong? Another one - Steven Covey says life follows 10:90 principle - 10% things actually happen in our life and 90% of our life is the way we react to those 10% things. Must Read!
Very simple and short book. Anupam Kher touches all the important aspects of good living and gives a template that can be easily followed by everyone.
In this age of complexity and technical jargons, this book is a breath of fresh air in my view. The author encapsulates his life of learnings and every page is brimming with his positive attitude of life. It appears that all his sayings are repeats of what is already known but the way he narrates with clarity and simplicity is exemplary.
It must reach more readers. I wish SSR had read this! Must read for all.
I dont like self help books much but this is a good one. Only thing I didnt like were the pompous words used. Senselessly I had to search some word meanings and that wasted my time.
Apart from that it is a good book and must read for some knowledge. Anupam Kher is an actor and a political stooge. But the good thing is that this book is not about his BJP connections.
This one is an easy read for understanding their own life's perspective as they experience it. Mr. Anupam Kher gives access to his life experience and his perspective in the most simplified version. Life and it's experience is inevitable but keeping yourself humble, focused and agile are some of the key takeaways from this book.
It is said that a person who has lived his life and seen life is full of wisdom. Anupam Kher has jotted down the pearls of wisdom and his learnings in this book. And in the face of adversity he lived by his principles and maintained his poise. This only raises my respect towards him. It’s a light and a great one time read. May be one can go back to it in times of need. I enjoyed the book.
Bollywood star Anupam Kher, the best things about you is you! Well ill say yes I liked this book. As Anupam has explained many examples and has shared his our experiences and you can motivate yourself after reading this. All are good to go..
The book talks about the basic principles and fundamentals one needs to survive this thing we call life. Loved the reminders of many points I’ve learnt in the past throughout this book.
He talks of his personal journey that is a relatable journey. They are short inspiring passages with depth. One needs to feel hope to take steps toward the future and that is what each individual continues to strive for.
