Oath of the Osprey
A stolen child. A murdered brother. One oath left to keep.
Douglas Cooper was never meant to be a hero.
He is a University of Florida anthropology professor with a precise mind, a carefully ordered life, and a need to keep his world firmly under control. But when his brother David is murdered while investigating the disappearance of a thirteen-year-old girl, Doug is pulled into a world that threatens to shatter his illusion of safety.
Joon was not taken at random. She was handpicked, shadowed, and stolen to fulfill a stranger's order.
Following the trail David left behind, Doug uncovers a hidden network that treats human lives as inventory and children as commodities. He is not a detective or a soldier. But he made an oath long ago, and keeping it may be the only way to save her.
He will not do it alone.
Doug's search draws together an unforgettable ensemble cast of friends and allies, each carrying their own strengths, fears, flaws, and reasons to stand beside him. As danger closes in, their loyalty, determination, and growing bonds reveal who they truly are and how much they are willing to risk to save a child.
Oath of the Osprey is a suspense thriller with heart, where a perilous rescue mission sets the stage, but the characters drive the story forward. It blends danger and raw emotion with friendship, humor, and simmering heat as relationships evolve. At its core, it's a story about courage, selflessness, and the profound sacrifices ordinary people will make when a child’s life is at stake.

About the author
Lee Davis Jr .
1 bookI’m Lee Davis Jr., a Florida author and lifelong reader who came to writing much later than I ever expected.
I wasn’t formally trained as a writer, and I didn’t grow up imagining I would someday become an author. I simply loved stories. I loved reading them, hearing them, and watching them unfold on screen. For years, the idea of writing a novel stayed in the back of my mind, mostly because I wasn’t sure I could actually pull it off.
Then, in my mid-fifties, a story that had been rattling around in my head for years simply refused to leave me alone.
That story became Oath of the Osprey, my first novel.
The process taught me that having a story in your head and turning it into a book are two very different things. I learned by doing, rewriting, making mistakes, studying the craft, and eventually spending more than a year revising with a professional editor. Somewhere along the way, I also discovered what mattered most to me as a writer.
I’m drawn to stories about ordinary people facing extraordinary pressure. I love characters who are funny, flawed, loyal, brave, occasionally inappropriate at exactly the wrong time, and human enough to make terrible choices for understandable reasons. I like stories where danger reveals character, where humor becomes a survival tool, and where the people who show up for each other become every bit as important as the plot.
The framework of Oath of the Osprey is a suspense thriller, but its heart is its ensemble cast. Their friendships, courage, loyalty, and willingness to risk their lives for someone else drive the story forward.
That is the kind of fiction I want to keep writing.
I was born and raised in Florida and now call New Smyrna Beach home. My family and friends are the center of my world. My wife, D’Yan, and I have five adult children, three grandchildren, and a Bernedoodle named Bodhi, who would probably object to being listed last.
We try to navigate life with kindness, curiosity, and a love for adventure. We travel whenever time allows, spend as much time near the ocean as we can, and maintain a bucket list that somehow keeps getting longer instead of shorter.
I will be sixty years old this year, and I’m still getting used to seeing my name on the cover of a novel.
I started writing later than I expected.
I’m very glad I finally started.

Man.....if this is Lee's debut book, his career is going to be wild!
Right from the start, Oath of the Osprey hooked me. Lee writes such incredibly relatable characters that I couldn't help but be completely invested in what they were doing. I was charmed by their personalities and the interactions between the 'dream team.' If I had to pick, I think my fvaourite character has to be Virgil; he's a gem of a human being!
The pacing of the story did feel a little off to me in places, a little slow, but it never made me bored or lost my attention. I wanted to know what was going on and had to stop myself several times from skipping ahead on a page just to make sure certain characters were going to be alright. And when the action ramped up, boy did it! If I got any more on the edge of my seat, I was going to fall over
One thing I wasn't super enamoured by was the swapping between POVs. Personally, I don't tend to enjoy that in a book as it brings me out of the storyline of what's happening to a specific character at the time of the switch. I'd have rather have seen a different set up, but it didn't bother me too badly and didn't hamper my enjoyment of the book much
I really hope to see more of the dream team together! Now that Doug has a taste for the P.I. life, maybe he'll dip his toes in again? I'm so sad to be saying goodbye to such a unique cast of characters, but I can't wait to see what Lee has in store for readers in the future. No matter what, I know it'll be on my list

When David Cooper dies during a special mission to save a missing girl from a group of Russian criminals, his dying wish is for his brother Doug to finish the job. Doug is a nerdy anthropology professor with no formal training but some knowledge of Krav Maga, and he doesn’t bat an eye at fulfilling his brother’s wish. Since David believes someone in the FBI is dirty, Doug, along with his fiery girlfriend V, enlists the help of an expert cybersecurity friend. The trio becomes entangled in this very dangerous case, attempting to expose a ring of child traffickers, the worst of the worst.
Despite the very real risk of the plan going belly up, Doug is determined to infiltrate this ring and reunite the children with their families. But time is running out because the diabolical predators are planning to rehome the children to their wealthy clients. Can Doug pull off this plan and make it out alive?
Lee Davis Jr’s Oath of the Osprey is a high-octane, propulsive novel that will hold thriller enthusiasts’ attention until the very end. The story follows Doug as he puts his life on the line, and Joon as she is groomed and held captive. At the same time, nefarious criminals prepare to ship her out to vile individuals. Lee Davis, Jr. explores themes of revenge, redemption, and love. A caveat for readers who are triggered by sensitive content: proceed with caution.
This ruthless novel with razor-sharp focus has everything you’d want from a crime thriller—high-tech gear like night goggles, stealthy drones, and an individual with unmatched hacking ability. Doug and his team deliver jaw-dropping sleuthing and thrilling banter that keeps the reading experience suspenseful and entertaining. Thanks to Davis Jr’s immersive writing, readers will feel as though they are in on this life-or-death mission.
Beyond the adrenaline-inducing action, the author does an excellent job developing the main characters, including their backstories. Readers will find themselves inspired by the missing girl’s strength and resilience and also her wavering trust when she falls victim to some disturbing grooming tactics that test her loyalty. Moreover, we are transported into the mind of a deeply disturbing criminal whose childhood trauma is the catalyst for his demonic behavior. Prepare to root for some characters while praying for others’ demise.
Oath of the Osprey is a standout novel that brilliantly combines heart-thumping action with top-notch character examination. Do not walk—run to grab your copy of this book!

Full disclosure, I'm not a fan of reading novels. Haven't read one since Bush Sr. was president.
When a close friend recommended this book, I bought it out of respect. Upon arrival, I removed it from the Amazon box and placed on my dining room table, where it sat for almost 2 weeks. My plan was to read 2 or 3 chapters at bedtime and quickly fall fast asleep. In reality, once I picked up "Oath", I could not put it down. The story line was intriguing, violent, sexy, with plenty of twists & turns. The characters were interesting, unique, and their flaws made them relatable. The author paints an incredibly vivid picture with his story telling style. You can feel the bass in the nightclub scene. You can smell the blood and sweat. You can taste Virgil's homemade cookies and see his hairy butt as he exits the hot tub in his thong. Loved watching the characters and story evolve as their trust and commitment led an unbreakable brotherhood/sisterhood. I can relate to that. I hope this is the first of many novels from Lee Davis Jr. Kudos sir!

Thank you to the author for this free book in exchange for my honest review of Oath of the Osprey.
The cover reeled me in but the story kept me glued to the pages right from chapter one. The plot centers on Doug, who learns his brother was murdered and finds out that his brother was investigating a missing thirteen year old girl. Determined to find answers, Doug picks up where his brother left off, following the hidden clues left behind. Every single character stands out as fascinating and the pacing never lets up. The author did a good job writing this one and I'm eager to check out future releases by this author. Overall, I did enjoy this one and would recommend to any reader who likes suspense or thriller books.

thrilling. emotional. fulfilling
Average people finding their inner hero driven to give their all to save complete strangers. Engrossing fight scenes, heart breaking emotions, and an ending that will knock your socks off. I’m a card carrying ‘toxic-man’ hater and there isn’t even the scent of one on our hero’s team. Only the luckiest of people get to have an Olly and a Virgil to call found family. IYKYK
