Meh. Didn't do much for me to be honest. Not bad, but maybe not the right book for me right at this moment. There is a nifty assessment on the website, www.newmoneymindset.com/getyourscore, which I did. It highlighted that which I already knew about myself, either that or I lied to myself on the assessment. Those things are always tricky.

Not a bad book and I liked the Biblical and God focus of it. Putting this one down unfinished for the time being. If it calls to me, I'll pick it back up, but I doubt it. For some reason I don't seem to gel well with the books sent to me in my faithbox.

3, solid but meh, stars.

If you are looking for straight $x budgeting, see Dave Ramsey. This book is all about change your heart and you will change your relationship with money. How do you do that? By first going back to the basic teachings of Jesus. We have enough, share. Most of us suffer from "stuffocation". Being generous does not have to be just with money but can be time, energy, talents. Giving, say 10% does not have to be cash. Just give. This will start to change your focus, thus changing the consumer mindset we are working on transforming.
This is an easy book to read and although the message is one that has been written before, it's a good reminder to have handy. There are discussion questions in the back and the anecdotes are relevant and relatable to most readers of a lower middle class to wealthy socio- economic status. It's a book you can pick up as a reminder and would make a good gift for graduates and newly married couples or couples joining assets.

I think Your New Money Mindset would be a great book to read before you start a financial planning class (something like Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace, etc.). It focuses on transforming your attitude and relationship toward money. It does not provide tools for budgeting or planning what to do with your money. So, if you’re looking for something to give you clear, step-by-step tips on how to manage your money… this isn’t the book you are seeking. However, if you find yourself constantly frustrated with and bound by money, no matter how many step-by-step classes on the subject you’ve taken, this book may give you some idea of where the trouble lies.

Chapter topics include our longings for security, freedom, independence, contentment, and success. It also provides a link to a new money mindset assessment that you can take to give you insight into how you perceive your relationship with money.

Bottom Line: I don’t know that I would recommend this book just by itself, as I think it would ultimately frustrate someone that genuinely wants to get out of debt or manage their finances. However, I do think it’s an important resource to use alongside other financial planning tools – to help you assess your attitude toward money and see why you feel financially insecure and/or unable to give as generously as you wish. With the discussion questions in the back and the way the topic in general lends itself to conversation, this would be a great small group resource as well!

This was a good book. It’s not a “10 steps to becoming debt free” type of book. It is more of a book that helps you read about different people with a variety of circumstances and what they needed to do, mentally, to change their focus and outlook on money. It helps you think about what is important and what should take the back burner in life. I would recommend this book to anyone who is working on having a better handle on finances.

DNF about halfway through because I'm just not finding it very helpful, and it's making me dread my devotional reading time which is really, really bad. Moving on to something else.

This book has some excellent ideas to help you save money going into the future, but most important of all, it gets you to start thinking differently about your attitude about money, and how you handle your money. I never really thought I had an attitude towards money, but now that I read this book, I see that I DO have an attitude towards money! I have to change that!
One part of this book that really stands out to me is how a young woman was so happy with her life! She said she was happy because she really knew what she wanted out of life and her money. This woman had Down’s Syndrome and I was pretty interested in what she had to say. She said she knew she would never have this position or be in a certain position. Because she was so realistic about where she would go with her job in her life, she felt “content”. WOW! That was a new one for me! I never really thought about life and money like that before. SO interesting.
This book really picks at your thought process about money, and it really gets you thinking. It shows you how you can be happy with what you have now, already and into the future. There are things you can do that make it even better, but only if you really want to. This book even goes so far as discussing saving money for your community, i.e., United Way! THAT was VERY interesting! This is a must-read regardless how you look upon religion.
I HIGHLY recommend reading this book! I know there may be a lot of references to God and church in this book, and perhaps that may not be your ‘thing’, this book is so worth reading because of the way it gets you thinking about money so differently than you ever have before, if you can do read it and get through the parts that perhaps you may not agree with, PLEASE DO IT. for YOUR benefit!
(Thrivent USED TO BE ONLY for the Lutheran Faith, but NO LONGER!!! As of March/April 2014 they expanded and now allow anyone to join their banks, financial services, etc. It’s completely different than it used to be for you possible naysayers out there. You may like it VERY much, or at least love what these authors have written about!)
I received this book for FREE from the publisher, Tyndale, in exchange to read and write a review about this book. I have had difficulty managing my finances. I always feel like, maybe if I had five dollars more or worked or something, our whole lives would be better. Of course, that’s not true, and that wouldn’t be God’s plan for our family, but it doesn’t stop me from sometimes feeling that way. So, when I received the opportunity to review Your New Money Mindset: Create a Healthy Relationship with Money, I felt like that would be a good help for me in working through my issues managing our finances.

The first thing that surprised me about this book is that this is not a book of practical financial advice. Instead, authors Brad Hewitt and James Moline concede that you can know a bunch of facts and tips for budgeting and handling your money and still feel like you don’t have enough money to cover all your needs. They prove their point by showing examples from studies where even the richest people in the country feel like they would be happier and more secure if they had 25% more money. In fact, one of the more compelling pieces of the book is a pie chart that they have in the second chapter of the book. Throughout that chapter the authors explain that only 13% of the Christians surveyed that they were basing their data on were happy with the amount of money that they had and weren’t longing for more. I found that to be terribly convicting because of how often I could be happy with what we have, but in comparison with others, I find myself discontented and longing for things that others have or that I see in ads.

The rest of the book explains places where our attitudes need to change and where, if we focused less on ourselves and more on what we could do for others, we could find true contentment. There are questions in the back for discussing this book in groups and there is an online assessment that you can take at their website to help you pinpoint the areas where you need some help in handling your relationship with money.

This wasn’t really the money book that I was looking for because I’m often just struggling and wondering how to pay the bills and buy groceries too! However, by reminding me that money and more stuff isn’t really the answer to my problems, this just may have been the money book that I needed.

Can we have a godly mindset about money when our society is so inundated with materialism? Our attitude toward money is important and revealing, the authors remind us. The Bible has more to say about money than any other topic. Jesus said more about money than any thing else.

The authors have written this book to help us determine our money mindset. Money is a tool God has given us and and we need to understand our every day actions and attitudes toward it. The two authors provide great insight from their own training and experience. One is the CEO of a Fortune 500 organization and knows math and money. The other is a licensed psychologist and understands behavior and belief.

I really like this book because it gets to the bottom of our attitude toward money – our heart. The emphasis of this book is remaking the heart. That is essential to remaking our habits toward money. The process begins with an assessment and the authors have provided the link for one online. They help us understand five money mindsets.

This book is challenging. The authors emphasize generosity, grounded in God's grace toward us. They cover many aspects of our money mindset, like our longing for security, our longing for more, and for success. They write about what it means to live in community and to live with contentment.

You won't find any budgets in this book. You won't find out how to get rich. What you will find is a call to have a heart attitude toward money, possessions, and lifestyle that reflect biblical concepts. You will be asked to re-calibrate your thinking about money. And you can do this in community because there are great questions included to be used in a setting of trusted friends.

I highly recommend this book. You'll be challenged. You'll be invited to have a new money mindset of generosity, to recognize that you have enough for yourself and enough to share. (31)

I received a complimentary copy of this book through Litfuse for the purpose of an independent and honest review.

This pair of authors combine their theological and financial planning perspectives to advocate for toward a more balanced, Christian approach to managing the pursuit of enough. Their book is rooted in scriptural references, anecdotes from Martin Luther, and practical stories from their own experiences. It's a worthy point of view likely to spark a bit of self reflection in anyone, even more so to anyone caught up in the modern race for more of everything.

I've been digging more into my money mindset and this was a pretty good read with how to look at money through a biblical lens. A lot of the principles can be summarized with this: be generous and free with your money and have faith you'll have enough (abundance mindset). The best part was actually the online quiz that goes with the book. Very eye opening!

I read this book to review it as a possible addition to our church library. Sorry. This mess is all over the place with very little holding it together. Is it self-help material? Financial planning? How to volunteer? To pray? To buy insurance?
Nothing too useful here. We probably won’t be adding this to our library shelves

Great read on helping the Christian reader understand why accumulating money is not to hoard for oneself (or even one’s family) but rather to share and help others. (By the way, this isn’t about taking an oath of poverty, either.) I felt like this book convicted the reader in a grace-filled way. I didn’t feel guilty after reading, but rather propelled to action. I’ve left reading a few missional living books with a very guilty/heavy feeling, and this one did not make me feel that way. Mainly because the authors share their high and low moments and their own personal sin struggles with money. Highly recommend.

There were helpful tips here when it comes to thinking about money, your finances, and your giving habits in light of a Christian worldview. My main critique of the book is that a lot of the material ties into the personal results for an assessment the reader is supposed to take before reading the book in full. Unfortunately, at some point since the book's release, the website that the assessment was available on ceased to exist. I did multiple searches to try to find the assessment online, and was unable to do so.

Great book! It changes my perspective about money and everything else attached to it. For the most part we worry about things we have no control over, the authors were able to suffice the true meaning of just letting go of anxiety and worry to God. This was a message i needed to hear since i can be a control freak at times and it bothers me if i can’t change a situation. The book also talks about contentment and generosity which are the biggest takeaway for me to be honest.

This is a really good guide on our financial mindset and changing it. It provides practical and real advice and encourages you to really dig deeper into how you approach money. Some of the statistics that were provided seemed a little far fetched & some of the stories that were told were distracting or didn't make much sense, which is why I knocked a star off. Other than that, I feel encouraged and I really enjoyed reading this.

Really great and refreshing Biblical perspective on money mindset! Docked stars only because I felt like I was still waiting for certain discussions, explanations, or connecting points. I think I was surprised when I got to the end of the book! It almost feels incomplete...but I can't really pinpoint what's missing. Overall, great book and teachings though!

There are some already-known pointers, yet I wrote them down for a financial group I do from a spiritual, biblical and practical stand view.

I like how he said about Apostle Paul stating that there are dangers while pursuing success because we can regard the most important things in our life.

My Review:
New Year's Day always brings about New Years resolutions and I would say at the top of that list is fitness related and debt related. The two things that most people try to get a good steady start on and hope that it has stuck by the end of the year. A healthy relationship with your money is essential in this life and many times can bring you that peace f mind you need to face other challenges in your life.

What is so great about Your New Money Mindset is that the authors try to get you down to the root of the problem that could actually being causing the concern for your finances which I find fascinating. If you aren't altered in your way of thinking you are fighting a losing battle, in my opinion and the authors get that entirely. They have included an assessment to try and analyze behaviors so that the reader can pinpoint the issue.

A great book for the new year that is definitely going to help get a different mindset in place of those that need it! Highly recommended!

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author.
