Erotic romance with much depth.
This book is a wonderful example for erotic romance. There is plenty justification for each and every open door sex scene in the book. And the graphic details matter. Not because readers are voyeurs but because thos story revolves around a twisted attempt of therapy in the form of sexual liberation.
The traumatised MC is tryimg to conquer her demons through sexual acts of all kinds. She creates another persona for herself and does it all under disguise. However, when circumstances force her to mix both of her personalities she is close to.losing her mind. Redemption comes in the form of dominant MC that offers emotional connection alongside the sex. A new experience for the "depraved" persona and a discovery of self for the "prude" one.
Please note: This story is a spin-off from the author's series about the Moreau family. It can easily be read as a stand alone but in my opinion, it is best to read it after the trilogy. More context will be helpful to understand the depth and complexity of the MC's trauma.
I liked that there weren't a lot of inner monolougues, which I expected with this level of self torture the MC puts herself through. But actions speak louder than words and the author chose to focus on the MC's actions instead. There is a skilled hand behind the writing and it shows. I have to add that the editing was well done too, as is evident in the pacing of the book. Never a dull moment but not too fast either. The MCs took their time reaching each other's hearts, learning how to deal with each other and how to support one another.
All in all, this is one of the better erotic romance books I've read this last year.

The Assistant is a standalone novel set in the world of The Mistress trilogy. You need not to have read the trilogy but I think it helps to add a depth to the characters. Our main character is Sarah Clayborn, assistant to the powerful Moreau businesswomen. Sarah had previously been entangled with Danica Moreau’s father and suffered horribly at his hand. She is working through the trauma of that experience, using her own coping mechanisms, when she meets and seduces Luca Blackbourne. She figures Luca to be a one night stand so is completely taken off guard when the rich businesswoman shows up at her place of employment the next Monday.
I loved that Sarah got her own story with this book. The things she’s gone through and how she chose to deal with them really made me empathize with her. I honestly felt truly sorry for her and angry on her behalf. I was not surprised how villainized she was for her sexual proclivities but it made me furious how condemned she was. What made this a fantastic romance is how devoted Luca was to Sarah, when she could have easily tossed her aside. But that wouldn’t be a Hildred Billings book without that obsessive devotion going on.
If you are a fan of Hildred’s other books you will love The Assistant. It is full of the steamy desire we’ve come to love and expect from her along with a satisfying redemption arc. I can’t wait to read whatever she writes next. Thank you Hildred for the ARC.

This book, by Cynthia Dane and Hildred Billings, follows on from their three part ‘The Mistress’ series so, if you intend to read them – beware of spoilers or, better yet, get all 4 and read them in order!!
The Assistant’s main character is Sarah Clayborn, the personal assistant to a high powered business woman and whose personal and family life has recently gone through some shattering changes.
As part of the self-destructive behaviour Sarah uses to try and cope with these changes, she has what is supposed to be a one-night stand with Luca Blackbourne. The next time in work she is shocked to see Luca, who not only is her boss’s friend and will be working in the same office but also recognises Sarah and wants to continue the relationship.
The characters are really well drawn with the turbulence and confusion Sarah lives with due to her recent experiences convincingly portrayed as is her struggles to understand and believe that Luca truly wants to continue relationship.
I don’t want to give away too much of the plot but he writing is very good, the storyline is enthralling and the sex scenes are hot but compliment the story not overwhelm it. If you are already a fan of Cynthia Dane and Hildred Billings, you already know how good their books are and this is a great addition to their work. If you haven’t read them before, its high time you started and this is a great new release to do that with!

Good book
Sara is dealing with all the trauma the lost of a baby that her bosses father has caused her. She feels she has lost control of her life her power, so she creates Angel that is going to take back her power and life. Angel is the opposite of Sarah she is very out going and willing to do anything and anybody to help her. Luca is at the club but is dealing with her own tragedy. But together they are helping each each other get through this thing called life and dealing with all the bad and good chose we make. To better understand what is happening read the first book in The mistress series.
