Ruby & Koyla
This was my first read of this author. Overall is the story good? yes but the writing style is a bit different then my normal reads. This book needed an editor. The writing is a very very discriptive narrative. In some areas it covers present, past and future events. It requires close attention in order to really understand what is going on in the actual story. So much desciptive narrative at times that I had to reread to decipher what was actually happening. Conversations that are displayed as narrative and not dialogue. Inconsistencies in the story. A lot of repetition. One of my biggest pet peeves in a story is when the author writes about medical people/situations that are not realistic. In the first chapter I would have thought that she is a doctor and not a nurse. We learn that she is a nurse, a trauma nurse, with 2 years experience---the reader learns this over and over again. However, her actions are not of a trauma nurse with 2 years experience. Her running the code in the first chapter in a trauma ER with trauma doctors and residents? nope that is not how that works. Her demanding all the vital signs, nope that is not how that works. Her decompressing a pneumothorax, nope not how that works. That is out of the scope of practice for a nurse. Throughout the book she speaks as a nurse who has years of experience, not experience that she would gain in 2 years. She talks about how she knows all the ins and outs of the hospital including the blind spots of all of the cameras, again nope that is not how that works. A nurse in a unit would not know or have access to that information. Her friend, Deysi, who I was under the impression was her room mate because that is how it is portrayed in the beginning. Then at Thanksgiving it is described that she has two children-- they were never mentioned before and never mentioned after. Where did these children come from and where did they go??? How many times in a story can the MMC be shot and the FMC save him? three times is extremely repetitive. Her "running" the code on the 3rd one-- again not how that works especially when she was not working. Twice, he gets shot by the same person and by stepping in front of her to protect her. So the big bad Bravta enforcer steps in front of her but never shoots his gun on the bad guy??? again repetitive. Her coming into the hospital, drawing her own blood and taking it to the lab to run for testing, not how that works. Even if that could be done, any idea how difficult it would be to draw your own lab specimens? difficult. Then the repetitive of him panicking and trying to hide her away. The baseline story was good but the execution was not. I do not know if I will read the other books on my TBR list from this author. This writing style is exhausting.

Don’t judge a book by its title!
I know authors feel pressured to title their books with enticing words or maybe literal descriptions? Either way, I find this title a bit cheesy (showing my age), but I bit at it anyway because it had such good reviews.
I really enjoyed the writing style of Jess Winters; I think this is the first book I have read by her. I really enjoyed the characters and how they grew and developed over the course of their story. And this is a good story - it’s layered and it’s messy. The “good guys” don’t always outsmart the “bad guys”. Things go wrong, but they also go right. All the side characters are charming and are given in just the right doses.
The one big thing that annoyed/perplexed me is that I am pretty confident there is a major continuity error at the end of the story regarding the last standing “bad guy”. So, that was disappointing.
Despite the book’s title, the one word I would use for this book is SAFE. It is written in such a way that there is very little on-page violence. The spice level is 0.5 🌶️, and yet there’s enough to feel their passion. The MMC is a little morally grey, but only by reputation…and one scene which he goes on to regret. It’s written as if you are being told a story from two people who are very private about their private lives. And at the same time, it is a compelling and sweet story.

This is the story of Kolya and Ruby. Kolya is Bratva and Ruby is an ER nurse. When Kolya nearly meets his demise and gets shot three times, Ruby pushes past the doctor on call who has falters and saves Kolya’s life. He does not forget.

💯 sure that I’ll finish it. The writing is a little off putting. It’s not as smooth as I normally like. Ruby has a stalker… not one but two and Kolya vows to keep her save. He eventually moves her into his compound, but she is still found by one of the stalkers.
I tried but eventually was DNF at page 99. The writing just put me off. So much of what I consider unnecessary verbiage. Description after description just left me unable to even enjoy the writing.

Mafia romance
A mafia themed romance story with intrigue, stalking, Russian bratva, found family, twists, chemistry and love.
When Kolya was brought into the hospital he was on death's door and saved by Ruby. When he wakes he promises that he'll never forget her. But Kolya is head of security for the Scrokin Bratva and when she starts receiving gifts from someone in the shadows she starts to worry.
Kolya knows his past is coming after him and trying to get to him through her but he'll do everything to protect her.

This was a easy story to read And was interesting
The story read like someone was being interviewed And it was easier for me to read but I kind of missed the passion that other stories have. Which only made the main character the brava daddy Really seem like he was with drawn I was learning to love. Each character was well written in fact and Fit perfectly into this story. The happy ever after ending was exactly as it should have been. Especially with having the baby on their wedding dance.

This was DNF for me
This was a DNF for me. There was way too much purple prose, which was so distracting that I couldn't get into the story or the characters.
I thought the story premise was great but when just about every sentence was full of unnecessary words, for example, "a door that would hold against anything short of an argument with God, and windows that turned bullets into disappointments", it was hard to stay in tune with what was actually going on.
I gave up after only 5 chapters.

Ruby is a nurse who saves Kolya’s life. He feels he owes her so he stalks her, finds out everything he can about her and when her life is in danger from another stalker , decides to take her to his compound to keep her safe.
Ruby is strong, independent and smart. Kolya is bossy and possessive but only because he’s afraid of losing her. They learn to compromise so they both get what they want. Their connection gets stronger as they navigate their relationship. No 3rd act breakup, no cheating and a nice HEA.

Good story....too many words
The story was good. I liked the side characters better than the mains. Editing was good. No continuity issues. The biggest problem was the purple prose. Every paragraph. By 30% I was skimming. I don't mind some clever prose, but this was way too much. This book would have been better with less of that and more detail about secondary character's, including the villains. Could have used more detailed world building too.

Good story
I have mixed emotions. It was really a good story but I guess I like more smut lol. Sorry can’t help it. Boy they went through it though. Loved all the characters that made up this family. Read this for yourself

Epilogue sex wasn’t necessary .
This was a good read but definitely not a fast one. With both of their point of views/ opinions dragging on sometimes for pages & pages it almost became tiresome & ,of course, it just had to have a pregnancy in it .

I just put this author on my follow list. Great prose wonderful characters and lots of twists and turns. I fell in luv with Ruby.
