Заметки "по горячим следам" переплетаются в повествовании с историческими и культурологическими экскурсами и размышлениями. Живыми, глубоко пережитыми впечатлениями обрастают уже сложившиеся и имеющие богатую традицию стереотипы восприятия поляками России. Через детали - цвета, запахи, звуки - поступают судьбы людей, островов, страны в целом.

About the author

Graduated from Polish Philology at the University of Wroclaw.
From 1978 he was an activist of the democratic opposition. Co-author of "underground" opposition newspapers: "Biuletyn Dolnośląski", "Podaj dalej", "Tematy". During the events of August 1980 he was co-editor of the newsletter of the strike "Solidarność", published in the Gdansk Shipyard. Since 1980 lived in Gdansk, where he was editor-in-chief of „Solidarności. Pisma Zarządu Regionu”. After the imposition of martial law in underground he had been the editor of the magazine until the arrest in December 1982. After his release from prison in 1983, he worked in the cooperative of high-rise services "Gdańsk". In 1984 in Paris together with Maciej Łopiński and Zbigniew Gach (pseudonym Marcin Moskit) he published a book about the days of the underground "Solidarność" named “Konspira” (simultaneously appeared in "underground" edition of the book in Poland), with the statements of Bogdan Borusewicz, Zbigniew Bujak, Wladyslaw Frasyniuk, Alexander Hall, Tadeusz Jedynak, Bogdan Lis, Eugene Szumiejki. The book was awarded the "Solidarność" Workers Publishing award in 1984. Arrested again in 1986, among others, on suspicion of alleged collaboration with the representative of a foreign intelligence (as evidenced supposed to be the release of “Konspira” on the West). Was released after a few months under the amnesty. After the strikes in 1988 he did not take part in active political life and worked as a war correspondent.
In 1993 he decided to stay abroad. He settled in Russia, on the Solovetsky Islands, and later lived on Lake Onega, most recently again in the far north. During this period, he was a Russian correspondent of the Paris-based "Culture" up to the last issue of the magazine (2000). He received, among others, Literary Award "Culture" in the name of Zygmunt Hertz in 1997. Is currently working with "Rzeczpospolita" (Appendix "Plus-Minus"), his texts also appeared in the "Zeszytach Literackich", "Gazeta Gdansk" and "Political Review". Nominated for a Polish award “Paszport Polityki” (Polityka's Passport) in 2006.
In 2006 by the order of Polish President Lech Kaczynski he was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of the Rebirth of Poland.

Spröde Prosa bester Qualität. Das Grauen kommt von dem, was nicht erzählt wird. Wilk lebt auf den Solowetzki- Inseln inmitten der Täter und Opfer des Internierungslagers im und um das alte Kloster und schreibt nur auf, was er sieht. Unglaublich, wie es ihm gelingt, ohne jeden Kommentar das Geschilderte für sich sprechen zu lassen. Ein Höchstmaß an Objektivität- quasi protokollarische Prosa! Man versteht, weil man es eigentlich nicht verstehen kann, wie das lange Miteinander Täter und Opfer zu einer Zwangsgemeinschaft, zu einer Schicksalsgemeinschaft geeint hat, die zwar Risse kennt, aber von Außenstehenden als homogen gesehen werden muss. Das Erlebte ist so unglaublich, dass es sich sogar gegen alle Solidarität verschließt, wenn sie von außen kommt. Man lebt. Mehr nicht. Und Wilk lebt einfach mit. Nur an einer Stelle wird deutlich, wie sehr er über den Dingen, die er begriffen hat, steht. Als der deutsche Universitätsprofessor Karl Schlögel (Viadrina FFO) gerade dort mit jungen Russen und Deutschen eines der in Deutschland beliebten "Aufarbeitungsseminare" plant und durchführt, kann es sich Wilk nicht verkneifen, das Scheitern des Projekts genüsslich zu ironisieren. Die jungen Russen kommen wegen der Chance, auf Projektkosten was zu erleben; Interesse an "Aufarbeitung" haben sie nicht. Es ist ihnen so egal wie den Opfern, die mitspielen, weil ein bisschen Tabak abfällt... Wer ein Grauen spüren will, von dem eigentlich nicht die Rede ist, wer die Weisheit eines Menschen spüren will, der selbst gelitten hat und deswegen von Plattitüden Abstand nimmt, der lese Wilk. Schade, dass sonst nichts auf Deutsch zu haben ist. Ach ja, der deutsche Titel lautet: Mariusz Wilk, Schwarzes Eis. Verlag Paul Zsolnay, Wien 2003. Aus dem Poln. übers. von Martin Pollack. Love this book. Especially love the beautiful, deliberate language of it. It's written in a diary format, mingles history, place, personal reflection. A great slow read in Polish language.

Это первая книга одного из моих любимейших авторов. В ней нет какой-то конкретики по поводу того, почему он вдруг решил остаться в России, почему решил жить на Соловках, да и вообще проза Мариуша Вилька совсем о другом.
Это медленное повествование, переплетающее сон, явь, бытописание современной России, экскурсы в историю, мифы, легенды...
"Волчий блокнот" всё-таки о Соловках и Белом море, севере России и России вообще, которая по словам автора видна на Соловках словно в капле воды — море. Наверное так оно и есть, многое подмечаемое им очень верно, а многие выводы можно построить и самостоятельно по коротким историям, описываемым в книге.
Книги Мариуша Вилька точно нельзя назвать увлекательными, но при этом от чтения сложно оторваться. Эта бесконечная мягкая канва утягивает за собой куда-то, где времени нет.
