Static Cling: The Cold Static Mysteries Book One

Rate this book
Every town has a story it agreed to stop telling. Verdant is about to hit play.

In this atmospheric small-town Southern mystery, the host of a true-crime podcast discovers that the hardest case to crack is the one her whole town has already closed.

Margaux “Mac” Sutton records Cold Static from a converted Victorian two blocks off the square in Verdant, Georgia — a town that repaints its monuments every spring and never quite changes its mind about anything. For two seasons she’s pulled a local man’s disappearance apart on air, frame by frame, and her listeners want the one thing a good producer can never honestly give certainty.

Then Verdant decides to honor one of its own, and a name Mac thought she’d retired starts turning up in the wrong places — in old recordings, in older grudges, in the polite silences a small town uses to keep its version of events intact. The deeper Mac listens, the clearer it becomes that the story everyone agreed on was edited long before she arrived.

With a retired engineer who trusts analog tape more than people, a relentless young researcher, and a gray-muzzled terrier named Fred, Mac starts chasing a truth that Verdant would very much prefer stayed off the record. Some neighbors want the case reopened. Some will do a great deal to keep it shut.

Static Cling is the first book in The Cold Static Mysteries, a clean, character-driven Southern mystery series for readers who love a stubborn amateur sleuth, a town full of secrets, and the particular thrill of a cold case cracked open on tape. If you enjoy slow-burn whodunits, quirky small-town casts, and mysteries you can hand to your book club, press record on Verdant.

Excellent!

An excellent crime drama about a true crime podcaster. There was a teen who was thought to have runaway since 1987. She starts to dig deep into the crime history and her small town is not happy about it. The further she digs, the higher up the possible cover up seems to go. Edge of your seat suspense!
