Back when Billie Jensen’s life was simple, Tommy Miles had been her older brother’s best friend. They’d had that deeper than blood kind of connection and Tommy had even lived with them for a few years before he and Zach joined the Marines. At some point, that simple life got complicated. When Zach died, it had fallen apart completely.
In Zach, Tommy had found his soul brother; it had even included an annoying little sister in the bargain. Then Zach died, and Tommy lost the entire Jensen family, something he blamed that little sister for.
But now everyone is out of options. Billie’s son is sick, and Tommy could potentially save his life
Tommy is used to rolling with the punches that life throws him, but when Billie shows up at his door asking for help, and ready to reveal a devastating secret, he’s not sure he’ll ever be able to forgive her for turning him upside-down—again.
Please not: Even though ‘Resonance’ is a part of the Marauder Series, it can be read as a standalone.
Lina Andersson was born and raised as far up north as you can go in Sweden. The long, dark winters were made for reading and writing, which is pretty much all she ever did. In her early twenties, she packed up her husband and son and moved to the slightly warmer climate of southern Sweden, where they still live, more than a decade later. When she's not writing, she's an avid gamer and film geek.
Keep an eye on the FCP website for updates on coming books and for Marauder short stories.
Resonance hails as the fourth book in the Marauders series by Lina Andersson. The main characters of which are Tommy Miles and Billie Jensen. In previous books mentions of Tommy have left me intrigued and I was definitely interested in his story. Andersson did not let me down as Tommy was the shining star of his own book.
There is a lot of history between these two characters. They knew each other growing up having had a really sweet friendship. As Tommy is the older brother's best friend there wasn't ever a romantic connection but a deep bond between he and Billie none the less. Circumstances lead to tragedy in more ways than one in this book and we see the two reconnect after six years lost. In the interest of preserving the plot I won't name how or why but will state that Tommy Miles completely stole my heart in this book. Billie Jensen made some mistakes that I didn't agree with but once she opened up I understood her a little more and respected her.
Parts of this story unlike other Marauders story become very saturated with details. I found myself getting lost in some of the history and background of each character. Rather than the organic telling of characters history in previous books I found myself getting too much without a lot of moving forward in some parts. In contrast Resonance moves the story of the Marauders MC forward in very big ways. Book five can't come soon enough for me.
This is MC Romance told in the unique style of Lina Andersson and while Resonance isn't my favorite of the series, it's an important book to read if you follow the Marauders. The connections made in this book were great and like I said the highlight for me was the maturing of Tommy Miles. The love he has to give came from somewhere abandoned in his soul and to see him get that back was just awesome.
Lina Andersson’s Marauder’s series is one of my go-to biker series. In the past, I have considered it one of the tamer series in the biker genres. Not because the Marauder’s aren’t a 1%er group, but the MC is a more family oriented group than what you generally see and although bad things happened and people died, there wasn’t a lot of mess. By the time I was done with Resonance, I decided that the Marauder’s weren’t tame anymore. Nope, not one bit.
Before I get into things, LA needs an editor. I found lots and lots of mistakes, plus some repetition of things that a good editor would have caught. Heck, even a few good beta-readers would have caught most of them, since let’s face it, I’m not an editor and I found a bunch. It didn’t keep me from enjoying the story, but it did yank me out of a scene more than a few times.
It took me a bit to get into this one. I had a hard time with Billie. I am not a fan of books that have a surprise kid. Not a surprise baby, mind you, but a woman who doesn’t tell the father of her child that he’s a Dad. If she had been upfront with Tommy from the get-go, I would have loved her because otherwise she was one badass chick who had it together. There was a reason given, but it was so lame, even she didn’t buy it. Since she was so badass, I decided to look past this as best I could. It ended up being easier than I thought it would be since the scenes written about how a parent deals with a seriously ill child were some of the most emotional and “real” scenes in the book.
I really liked Tommy. He knew who he was. Although not comfortable with his and Billie’s extensive history and how it ended in such a heartbreaking way almost 6 years before, he was doing his best to move on with his life even though he had basically lost almost his entire family. He was a former marine scout/sniper and although not a genius or big strategist like some of the other Marauders, he was content in his role as a foot soldier in the club. I loved his reaction to finding out he not only had a 5-year-old son, but a gravely ill one. He was eventually more forgiving than I would have been, but in light of the history with Billie and her family, it was understandable.
The first part of the book was mostly Billie and Tommy finding their way. There was also lots of club/cartel politics going on, plus a some military training type information that I didn’t think was needed, making things drag a bit. I was still entertained, I just think some things could have been pared down a bit. At the 77% mark, we went from a Sunday drive in the country to the fast lane of a Houston freeway when things picked up in a big, messy, shake-my-head-and-say-“Oh,-No” way. Trigger Alert:
I ended the book wanting more. I need Lina to write faster so I can know where it’s all leading. It did not end on a cliffhanger, but I need to check in on a certain young lady so I know she’ll be okay. And I really want to know what’s going to happen with the cartel and of course I need to see that Felix is recovering well. Plus, I’ll take all the Brick time I can get. I love that man and he’s going through some stuff. Again, I need Lina to write faster.
There were a couple of things that didn't work for me in this book. One was there was so much pointless background info on the military or personal history or the drug war that they're in. I'm all for background info if there is a point to it, but if it has almost nothing to do with the story then just cut it. My main problem was the errors. Not only a large number of misspellings, but random words that didn't make sense in places, and so much repetitiveness. There was one paragraph that described something and then the next paragraph was almost exactly the same with a few different words. An editor (or at least a better one) is sorely needed. Other than that it was great. I love the world that Lina's written and the storyline was great. Super trigger warning towards the end—
I love the Marauders MC series and feel like I'm emotionally invested in all of the characters. I usually get emotionally involved with the characters when I start a new episode. For some reason I could never really connect with Tommy and Billie on a romance level. The passion, either for the hate or the love, just didn't light a fire for me. I loved the usual family approach by all of the club members and the level of support they always give to each other. The ending broke my heart but makes me look forward to the next books to see how the family drags themselves out of this tragedy. I have no doubt they will and plan to read the next book in the series. There is a HEA.
I'll make this short. It wasn't my favorite in the series. But in hindsight, there are so many good ones, it's a bit of a compliment. I liked Tommy. I loved Billie because she was a badass. And I loved the bonus of Felix, Clyde and Leah. The story didn't flow as well with the illness, cartel, and other club issues. It was all important but it was too disorganized in timing. But the developments were crucial and the story eventually went were I suppose it needed to go for the series to progress to the next stage. As always, I adored Brick. I wish there was more Edie since we barely see her. I'm anxious for the next installment and hope to read more about Eliza. Lina Andersson is going to have to hurry.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I liked the concept of the story, but felt like some things were just rushed through which made it harder to connect at times and way too much details on some things. The timeline threw me off at times....I didn't know if it was the next day or weeks later at some points. And I was confused because each time Billie met Eliza it read like it was the first time she met her, I didn't get that. But those are things that could be fixed with good editing. I do like this series and plan to continue with the next book.
Heart wrenching, tear you up and spit out the pieces!
Such an amazing story! Felix really steals the thunder from everyone else. We meet his mom, Billie, as she approaches the Marauder's clubhouse, set to tell Tommy Miles, not only that he has a 5 1/2 year old son he didn't know of but that the boy is very sick and Tommy is his last hope for a kidney transplant. This type of overwhelming medical drama can end up being either too heavy or treated too flippantly by an author. I'm very pleased that Ms. Anderson found a perfect balance of all the emotions which accompany a parent, grandparent, or friend, not to mention the patient, having to face the roller coaster of severe, life threatening illness.
Meanwhile, Billie and Tommy face the past of their situation and deal with it like two mature adults rather than being pissy little kids throwing tantrums all over the place. Billie was wrong to keep Felix from his dad, but she did really great by making sure he "knew" his dad through pictures and stories and that he knew his dad didn't know about him and not that he didn't want to be there with him. That approach makes the reconciliation much smoother and happier for everyone.
Meanwhile, the overall MC story arc continues regarding the alliance with the Dutch and the cartel with the Marauder's in the middle tying them together. They are expecting turmoil from the business arrangement but are not sure when or it what form it will begin. It happens in this book in a very violent and sad way.
Finally, this is probably my favorite book yet in the series and it has me on the edge of my seat, impatient for the next installment. This is a stand alone, no cliffhanger with a HEA for Tommy, Billie, & Felix. Of course, there are teasers and unfinished business regarding the club's alliance. I highly recommend beginning with book 1 and reading in order, including the two novellas so you get the full experience.
This book was so freaking boring! There were some parts that were really sweet with the little boy Felix, but the parts about the Club were hella boring and really took over. The romance was a bit slow at the beginning, but slow as in NOTHING happened and then all of a sudden, BAM! and they're in love. No simmer, no heat, no attraction, no anticipation and then they have sex out of the blue?! It was weird for me.
The last 25% of the book felt like a setup for the next in the series. It didn't really relate much to the two main characters and could have--should have--been saved for the next book.
Lina snuck up on me with a style of her own, somewhere between Madeline Sheehan and Susan Fanetti. This is Tommy and Billie's story. However, like every book in the series, it will captivate you with the Marauders MC members, and their love, loyalty and struggles. It's easily one of the best MC'S of the year. Although it could be read alone, you'd be cheating yourself as much as anyone else that hasn't read them all in order. These characters will GRAB you! They will stay with you long after the last page. Must Read!
This was a love/hate read for me. Loved the interaction of Tommy and Billie and Felix. Loved the Tommy's interaction with the club members. Glad he started to feel more secure within the club. Hated, hated, hated that something bad happened to one of my favorites. This is now my second favorite in the series (Perfect Collision book #2 holds that spot) edging out Center of Gravity book #3 by a slight margin. Can't wait for the next book.
I'm so glad Tommy got a book off his own. And am so happy to hear his story, though under the circumstances I did she'd a tear when Billy came around and shared her little secret but again relieved and so happy that he forgave and decided being happy was more important than holding a grudge.
have to say this book is a close second in this series. will definitely recommend this book/series to everyone and if your look for a bit of fun with a few extremely emotional dramas then this series/ book is the one for you :)
Didn't enjoy this one as much as the others. I didn't want to read about his hookups earlier in the book. I skipped over some repetition on factual downloads of military life and so on.
The romance was lacking. However I enjoyed Felix, Clyde and brick. Clyde especially some badass that taught the heroine how to be a badass. I didn't enjoy the Cartel storyline as much and it was left unresolved.
Overall the writing was great but the story was lacking in something - mostly romance.🙃
This was the fourth installment to this gritty series by Lina plus it's a secret baby trope too. Tommy is surprised to find out he has a kid with Billie but will do whatever it takes to make it right. There's plenty of drama with lots of steam too. I felt the ending was a bit rushed but it's still a good read.
Loved Felix and how the Jensens dealt with his illness. They brought Tommy back into the family after Zach with open arms. The club is getting in deeper with the Ghouls and the cartel which causes grief to Brick and his family.
2.5. Loved the characters just felt that the storyline was all over the place. The ending was rushed and didn't really settle anything, but it did make me want to read the next book.
TOMMY......what a back story he has along with a woman and a son! This story was so bittersweet in some ways because of those lost in the past and the possibility of losing a son. I was on pins and needles for so much of this book! I didn't want Feliz to die......good thing he didn't.
It was a slow to build love story.......seemed to take forever but considering the bitterness between TOMMY and BILLIE.......very understandable. Once the romance kicked in....blew the story into overdrive. I loved the romance between them. I also loved Feliz.....great kid.
We got a lot of the MC group and I loved that we caught up with them. The one thing I'm concerned about is all this stuff they're maneuvering around to get done before a possible strike against their club. I just hope they all make it through the storm.
Lastly; we got a very beloved young woman character and what happens to her is horrific (thank you Dear Authoress for not giving us more details but keeping it rather 'subdued'). I hated what they did to her and surely she'll need so much 'help' to get through what she was subjected to. That BRICK made himself witness the outcome.....a father's worst nightmare. For sure; payback is in order. Poor MEL......her daughter....this is bad for everyone.
We're left with so much going on in the MC and the hope that in books ahead everything can be 'righted'. Oh.....and can't SISCO find somebody to love....again? Surely his heart can do it one more time?
Excellent story. Well written and loved the details. Thank you.
So incredibly good! I am dying to read the next one. I'm not sure who it is going to be focused on, but considering how the plot lines were left I really hope the next book shows . I don't want the next one to be about her, but I really hope that we get some form of knowledge that she's going to be okay.
I really liked Tommy and Billie. I thought that they were such a good match for one another and I just liked them as individuals as well. I really really like Billie. Despite the fact that she kept something very important a secret for years that never really bothered me. I don't think anything could have taken away from the fact that she was an amazing mother and person. She was strong and compassionate, she was never stupid or purposely rude. Billie was an all around good person, and that is something that I really enjoy reading about.
I will say that I wasn't a fan of how much club politics was happening in this one. For the most part the series has definitely talked about the club and what the club might be doing, but this book seemed to take it to another level. I even started skimming a lot of the club talk because it felt so unnecessary to me.
Other than that I really enjoyed this one and I can't wait for what is to come.
Wow ... I have a few Favorite's ... Yes this Series is another one of them ..... This Series has always had a great story line ... Edge of ya seat reading ... Hot S€X ... Hot Guys & strong leading Ladies , this book is no different than the others in the series although this has gone a touch darker with what happened to Eliza , Brick & Mel's 17 yr old Daugther .... Its a Wow ,OMG No in a huge way.. There's new Guys .. patch overs & the new guy from another club that got patched over ,Roach , very very interesting looking forward to his back story... So far we've be told he grew up on the streets..... The main couple in this story Tommy & Billie thier story is a different one & thinking on it one I haven't read before ..not nessaraly keeping something from him .. But it's more what that someone needs... So well done . Some of Bille's back story is just Horrid what she experiences , but written well, Leigh & Clyde her parents Hard Case .love the scene where Biile asks her mum if she has a Gun , her mum responce was .. Do I have a Gun , you did grow up in our house didn't you .. Funny .I really do love this Authors Writing , Well Worth My Time & Money you Won't be Dissappointed a Fantastic Read.
The biggest praise that I can give not only to this book but to this series is that Lina Andersson is now one of my go-to authors. She can definitely tell an excellent story. This book was so emotional and dealt with many key issues, from rape in the military to serious childhood illness. I was very much into the storyline and felt pretty much every emotion possible. I loved getting to know Tommy and Billie - she's an awesome character. Tommy and Felix together was so sweet and made me love Tommy. And the way The Marauders pulled together has helped to make this one of my favorite series.
I'm torn because I really enjoyed this book but I didn't fully understand the erratic timeline or the reasons Billie gave. Very sad circumstances but they don't absolve her from her mistakes. Their relationship seemed to move at the speed of light. I understand sad situations have a way of pulling people together so I gave some leeway.
Otherwise, Felix was adorable and Eliza's story really shocked me. I'm still holding out hope for Sisco because I love his character. Excited for any character's story we get next.
I usually don't read books when kids are sick. I read to escape to a world that doesn't have a lot of ugliness in it. So I usually hate deaths, cheating and kids sick, so much I'll stopping reading or just never start. I'm not sure why I even gave this one a start maybe because I enjoyed all the other books in the series and I felt confident that the author wasn't going to go down the wrong path with the subject. And she didn't. Was a great book, great story with Tommy and Billie. Nothing dragged out and everything was blended together well without being rushed.
April 2024 Re-read. I now understand why I haven’t left reviews for a lot of the books in this series. I’m pretty much emotionally spent by the end of each one. This time he story felt long, but the ending too short!
What I loved about this story: - Billie and Tommy - Tommy and Felix - Billie’s family, especially Clive - brotherhood
What I struggled with: - Felix’s dialogue, pretty impressive for a 5 yr old - the sad times - details and lengthy scenes
One more book to go from memory, and I'm so happy I have decided to take the time to read this series again 🥰
